Information About Katrina:

Personal Description:

I am married with three children and seven grandchildren. I like to keep fit and attend a local gym regularly. I have been involved with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme as an instructor and assessor and I am an active member of the Combined Cadet Force (Royal Navy Section).
Needless to say I am CRB checked. The most recent one dated last year. These last for three years.

Teaching Experience:

I have successfully taught mathematics in schools in Nottingham, Surrey, Hampshire and Lancashire over the past twenty years. I took early retirement this summer from teaching but am still an examiner for GCSE higher paper.

During those years, I have had considerable success in helping my students to achieve A*'s in mathematics and statistics and have also been able to give additional help to some students to enable them to improve their grades. In addition to this, I have taught students who were struggling with some aspects of mathematics and been able to give them an alternative approach, thus helping them to a greater understanding of the topics.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to be able to get to know exactly what the tutee's problems are in mathematics and will usually ask to see some of their work in order to get a starting point from which to build. It might be that they are only struggling in one particular area and that's fine, I can help them with that, or they may need some consolidation;bringing all the topics into play in order to solve complex problems more easily and therefore building confidence.
I can supply worksheets or will work from their own textbook if they prefer. I usually set homework for them to work on before the next session.

Qualifications:

• BA degree mathematics and statistics
• PGCE St Martins College, Lancaster
