Personal Description:
I have recently graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a first class BA (with honours) in media and communication.

I have studied media and communication at GCSE, A-Level, and BA degree level. These studies have included various approaches to media theory, film studies, video and audio writing/production/editing, and web design, and I would consider myself able to tutor in any of these fields for GCSE or A-level students.

I also studied psychology at A-level, as well as taking two psychology modules in the first year of my degree.

Since leaving university, I have been working as a cafe supervisor due to the lack of current jobs within the media field. I am currently volunteering for two production companies in a video editing role, and am also currently setting up my own freelance web/digital design company.

Teaching Experience:
Although i have no direct teaching experience, the teaching field is one which i have a keen iinterest in, as I am heavily considering taking teaching qualifications next year (I am currently saving money to pay for this).

Tutoring Approach:
I would say that the most important factor to consider in an approach to tutoring would be the tutee themselves., determining a tutees strengths and weaknesses regarding a subject, before working out how both factors can be improved.

As regards to the media field, a mix of theoretical, literature, and practical approaches is often the best way to grasp a subject (e.g. using recommended academic sources, then applying the theory described in these to primary news/media sources, and then researching further academic resources).

I also regard organising time management as a key factor to learning, especially during exam revision periods, and helping a tutee to plan and keep to a revision or learning timetable is also important.

I normally contact the pupil/pupil's parents to introduce myself and the agency, If they agree with tuition my agreement is to give 1 lesson during which I test the pupil's knowledge on a range of SIMPLE & BASIC maths concepts and give feedback to the parents. This method has worked very well either way. As part of tuition I make sure my pupils gain confidence & knowledge gently but surely. Generally after some lessons pupils show visible confidence & knowledge that are very satisfying for everyone concerned.
Homework is a MUST no matter sometimes, due to school work, is just a few exercises.
Also every so often pupils have tests on selected topics.

I am a young theoretical physicist and a mathematician. I got my BSc in Physics with Space Science in 2007 and MSc in Physics in 2009 from University College London. I remain at the same university to read PhD in Mathematics, researching in the area of mathematical and theoretical cosmology.

Tutoring Approach:
My approaching to teaching is to make students learn through examples. In doing so, students will not only gain problem-solving skills and understand the theories better, but also will be well-prepared for the exams at the same time. I believe it is very efficient way to learn and most suitable for subjects like Mathematics and Physics which you cannot remember everything but must try to understand underlying principles and must be able to apply them in different contexts. I ran an IT training company specialising in database software for 3 years. I have a first degree in government and economics and an MA in open and distance learning. Teaching Experience:
I worked as a lecturer for an IT training services company. I eventually took over the creation and management of courses. I also built seminars and arranged conferences. Eventually I took over as MD. I left to form my own IT business specialising in IT education.

After retiring from business in 1999, I took an MA in Distance Learning with the Open University,(OU), and also became a tutor in IT courses for the OU. In 2001 I qualified as a teacher by gaining my PGCE, (teaching diploma). I taught for 3 years in a comprehensive school teaching ICT to 11-18 year old. I worked for 3 years in a sixth form/FE college teaching ICT and Accounting

Tutoring Approach:
I believe it is important to establish my student's requirements and identify what is achievable as early as possible. I would build up an understanding of his/her existing knowledge,experience, learning styles and skills and then with the student and in same cases with the parent/s, agree a study schedule and learning plan specifying dates times for the student to attend tutorials and work in their own time. A lot will depend on the student who will be expected to do a lot of the work on their own. Tutorials will be regular and include elements of telephone and if possible online support . The emphasis will be on support and guidance and management of achievable targets.
