Personal Description:
I am a current first year student at the University of Bath, studying for a Masters in Aerospace Engineering. I have achieved great academic results at A-Level from Wallingford Sixth Form.

I`m available from 14th of December to the 4th January, so if you need to go over more challenging areas of the course, I`m happy to help.

Teaching Experience:

I have limited experience in tutoring but i have helped course mates frequently when they do not understand the curriculum or haven`t understood the method that the lecturer uses. I tend to find that changing the technique of teaching a subject allows you to understand it better.

I also helped friends and family who are studying A-levels in maths, further maths and physics.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm very patient with tutees and take the time to make sure they learn the topic subject thoroughly. As I said before, I tend to vary my methods of teaching if the tutee doesn't understand how i'm teaching it. I also think it is a better learning environment if the session has a specific plan in mind but is informal enough to allow the tutee to query anything that they don't fully understand.

Personal Description:
I studied Genetics at the University of Liverpool after which I worked in a microbiology laboratory. I then moved back to Brighton, my home town, and completed a PGCE in secondary science with the University of Brighton. My teaching practice was in two West Sussex schools and, following this, I worked a maternity contract as a Teacher of Biology in an all-girls school in central Brighton. Following this role, I worked as an Editor for a science publishing company based in London.

I currently hold a position as a Teacher of Biology at Bellerbys College, Brighton. This is an international school that prepares students for a university education in the UK. I tutor several students alongside this and thoroughly enjoy imparting my understanding and love of science to others.

Alongside teaching science, I have trained as a yoga teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga and offer a weekly class at a central Brighton studio.

Teaching Experience:

I hold a PGCE in secondary science from the University of Brighton and whilst on this course I taught 11-18 year olds at two West Sussex schools. I then worked for a year, on a maternity contract, as a Teacher of Biology at an all-girls school in central Brighton. I currently hold a full-time position as a Teacher of Biology at Bellerbys College, Brighton.

I have four years tutoring experience, having tutored A-Level, AS-level, GCSE and mature students in both Biology and Chemistry. I have a very successful track record.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very friendly and approachable, and highly dedicated to my students -- I put in a lot of time and effort to ensure they are achieving their full potential. Within the sessions, I provide solid structure and tailor my approach to their individual needs. I suggest work for completion outside of sessions and provide the students with direction to develop their private approach to learning and revision.

I am able to explain difficult concepts in an easily digested way, making learning for them enjoyable and confidence-boosting. I have a clear, patient manner, and an excellent grasp of my subject specialisms.

I am a hardworking student currently writing a Masters of Science Dissertation in Marketing at Aston Business School, Birmingham. I have been taught in the British system in English through out my life. I had 4 A's and 5 B's in my GCSE's and an A,B and a C in my A levels. I then went on to do my Undergraduate at Royal Holloway University in Management and secured a Second class. I not only have academic knowledge in the field of Sales, Accounting & Finance, Marketing, Business Studies, Commerce and Business Management but also experience and industry knowledge in the above mentioned areas. Being a student myself I know how to explain things in such a way that students can grasp concepts fairly easily and quickly.

Teaching Experience:

I do not have any formal experience in teaching however I did teach a group of juniors Accounting and Marketing in my undergraduate degree to help them understand some of the topics they found difficult.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style is very flexible and dependant on the students knowledge, abilities and comfort level. It allows an interactive teaching session accomodating and welcoming questions and confusions to be cleared as WE go along. Starting with basics I explain topics that a student is finding difficult to grasp and convey the bulk of knowledge the student needs to know for it and then take questions and help solve problem sets and go over the key points of the topic again.

Personal Description:
Having completed my undergraduate degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University, followed by a Masters degree in Politics with distinction, I am now a speechwriter and chief of staff to a member of the House of Lords who is the former CEO of a FTSE100 company. I am very keen to share my enthusiasm for my subject areas with students. Whilst at university I was involved in a wide variety of activities, including editing a magazine, conducting an orchestra and captaining a squash team, so I understand the pressures students face to balance academic studies with extra-curricular activities. By providing effective, valuable tutoring, I hope I can ease these pressures.

Teaching Experience:

With five years' experience of the Oxford tutorial system (including a period conducting admission interviews for undergraduates), and two years' experience writing high profile speeches and newspaper articles, I can provide challenging, engaging and friendly tutoring at a variety of levels, including to those preparing for applications to Oxford or Cambridge. I offer a particular focus on rigour and precision when it comes to students expressing themselves; in my experience, this can make all the difference when it comes to an academic or entrance exam. The broad nature of my degree means I can offer tutoring in Economics, Politics, Maths (including statistics), German and French, all of which I studied at A Level or university myself. As a post-graduate student of politics, I can also offer particular expertise here.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a real passion for my subject areas, and I believe that an enthusiastic tutor is the first step in enabling a student to achieve their full potential, whatever level they may be studying at. For exciting, dynamic tutoring from someone with extensive experience of one of the most admired teaching systems in the world, please get in touch!

Personal Description:
I am an outgoing and hard working 1st Class BA Cambridge graduate, who can get along well with almost anybody. I've been consistently in education, having gone straight from school into university and straight from university into drama school.

I love to learn.

I am a huge fan of academia, having worked hard in my studies throughout my life, and I love stimulating my mind and working hard, and for that reason I love tutoring, where I can both teach and continue to learn myself.

Teaching Experience:

My degree at Cambridge University was in Education studies with English and Drama. Although it was not a teacher training course, the Education Studies module of the degree involved learning an introduction to the philosophy, psychology, sociology and history of education. I was also, of course, able to benefit from the private seminar and tutorial system that Cambridge offers. As a result, I am fully aware of how beneficial a one-on-one teaching style can help to build confidence, and heighten learning and understanding.

I have now been tutoring ages 7-18 for about 2 years, and have had very good feedback from my various jobs:

1. Lucy is an excellent enthusiastic tutor who does a great job keeping my son interested and engaged. I would highly recommend her. - Father of Zain (age 8)

2. I would really like to thank you for being such a great tutor. We appreciate the effort you put into preparing for the sessions with Ella and we have every confidence in your dedication and abilities. - Father of Ella (age 16)

3. "Julian scored 97% UMS marks in English Language, which is within 2.1% of all the boys taking English this year. For English Literature his UMS score was 97% again, which is within 4% of all the boys this year! This brilliant result, we think, is largely thanks to your help" - Mother of Julian (age 16)

4. Our son absolutely loved Lucy. She worked so hard with him in the lead-up to his exams, and I don`t know what we would have done without her! - Mother of Christopher (age 11)

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is generally fun. I am the tutor who is also the friend. I do not let a child get away with misbehaviour or laziness, but at the same time I am certainly not stern and forceful. My approach is without a doubt to help the child learn to love the subject and want improvement for themselves, not because I demand it of them.

Firstly, I will always aim to find the areas the child is having the most difficulty with and break it down to its simplest form to help them understand. Once a child has understood the basic principle of what we are learning, I aim to push them as far as I can with their learning - my memory of the best teacher's I had at school were the teacher's who pushed me even further than I needed to go, and who gave me more knowledge and information than I needed to know. I then found that I entered my exams relaxed and confident, knowing that I had excess knowledge. Rather than learning just to answer set questions in an exam, I felt I truly understood those subjects.

Of course, I would play everything by ear though, and I would not pile extra work or information on a child if they are still struggling. We will work at a pace that is comfortable but useful for them.

Personal Description:
I have been a Biology teacher for 37 years. I am now retired and living with my wife in Hartland in North Devon.
We have four adult children.
I have taught in state schools and independent schools in UK and at International Schools in Africa and the Middle East. During my teaching career I have been Head of Biology for twelve years.
I have always enjoyed studying Biology and I like to think that I can pass my enthusiasm for the subject on to my tutees.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in UK for 19 years:
Twelve years at the Radclyffe School in Oldham, two years at St John Rigby Sixth Form College in Wigan and nearly five years at Shebbear College in North Devon where I was Head of Biology.
I have taught at International Schools for 18 years. All the institutions followed the British Curriculum:
One year at Barewa College, Zaria in Nigeria and one year at Seepapitso Secondary School in Botswana.
Nearly six years in Kenya at Hillcrest Secondary School, Nairobi where I was also the Head of Boarding.
Three years at Muscat Private School in Oman, two years as Head of Science at the British School of Alexandria, and three years at the Modern English School in Cairo as Head of Biology.
I completed my overseas teaching as Head of Biology at Al Khor International School in Qatar where I taught for two years.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always enjoyed studying and teaching Biology which has effectively been my lifetime's work. I have extensive experience of teaching students from many different educational backgrounds and I have always been able to relate to my students and nurture an enthusiasm for the subject. As a tutor I would aim to make my lessons enjoyable but rigorous and I will always try my best to boost the confidence of my tutees. If students begin to enjoy the subject they will gain confidence and the examinations will then seem less daunting.
Whenever I tutor I will always incorporate the use of a computer into the learning process. I like to refer to animations and short video clips which greatly enhance the learning process. The on-line resources can then be used by my tutees to reinforce their understanding, as well as researching new material.

Personal Description:
I am a fourth year medical student currently intercalating in Historical and Political Studies at the University of Exeter. I have spent spent a lot of time in the last year teaching small groups of pre-clinical medical students. I initially did it as part of a university project but I enjoyed it so much that I regularly taught two groups of eight long after the project was over (no mean feat after a day on the wards). I have previously only tutored in fits and starts in an informal manner throughout my academic career (phone calls from nervous parents in the run up to exams) and would look forward to building a good relationship as I have found I can give much more effective tuition as I get to know more about the student.

I believe my main strengths are my clarity of explanation and my calm nature.
My clarity comes from a deep understanding of the sciences that I have studied for many years. I believe that all of the subjects I teach are very simple, and that a good explanation is all it takes to bring a student form a low grade to a high one.
This belief brings a calmness which I also believe is very important to produce effective learning as it is difficult to absorb concepts in a stressed state of mind. By imparting an understanding of the material and ensuring the students know exactly what is required of them in their examinations I am confident I can reduce pre-exam jitters.

** Note, I can only tutor students in Exeter itself. I do not have the means to travel outside of the city on a regualr basis.

Teaching Experience:

As above: Teaching undergraduate medical students in small groups for the last year, informal tutoring throughout my many school years

Tutoring Approach:

I always promote understanding as I believe this improves retention, increases applicability of the information learned and (most importantly) makes the subject much more interesting. I try to keep my lessons tailored to what the student hopes to achieve and to make the lessons interactive as possible via discussion ans short questions (ideally from past exam papers).

I have been enthusing people about Music since I co-ordinated a New Music Ensemble at my Sixth Form College, introducing and teaching others to unfamiliar styles, which quickly became enthralling to all.

Tutoring Approach:

My style of tuition is focused on helping the student use their existing skills and knowledge to uncover new knowledge and become enthused and interested in the subject.

Personal Description:
I have been playing guitar for 17 years, ever since my Dad unexpectedly presented me with an acoustic guitar one Christmas. I've never looked back, and in the intervening years I've also picked up bass, drums and piano. In 2002 during my summer holidays from University I attended a 10 week full time course at the Guitar Institute in London.

I have played with a number of bands throughout my musical career. I am currently actively involved in two bands and we have been fortunate enough to play to audiences across the UK and in Europe, with gigs in Germany, Austria, Portugal, Italy and Norway. I have also played in Musical Theatre productions such as Jesus Christ Superstar, Fame and Footloose.

Teaching Experience:

I am very happy teaching any age and level of student from complete beginners to experienced players.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach acoustic and electric guitar, covering rock, pop, indie, blues, soul, funk, metal and folk. However, more importantly than any specific style, I teach how to approach, practice and learn music in general. These disciplines can be applied to any style.

I ensure my students get a thorough understanding of the technical and theoretical aspects of playing guitar. However, I use real pieces of music to reinforce and practice these elements so that they are fun to play and do not become dry and repetitive.

I can support students working towards grade exams if required. However, this is not obligatory and it is entirely possible to become an excellent guitarist without taking grades. The grade boards I'm most familiar with are Rockschool and Trinity Rock & Pop.

Personal Description:
Ben is a technically and artistically accomplished in portraiture photography and been quoted by professors at university as a master in the studio. He love's to make the photos encapsulate you and who you want to be. Ben strives to capture the details and emotions that would go together to make your time with me an enjoyable experience.
Ben is a social person and love's to get to know the people he works for, so he can really reflect their character and what they want, so to produce the highest quality work for and give them exactly what they are after. Ben aims to spend time chatting with you in advance so that your time with me is so much more productive.
Ben grew up in West Africa where his parents worked amongst the poor coordinating small-scale development projects. This had a massive impact upon his life and photographic practice affecting how he relates to the world around him. In his photographic work he has taken a special interest in reflecting stories and voices through his images. For example, he travelled in Uganda and Thailand and used photography to be the 'voice' of the people he photographed.
Although Ben's formative years were spent in Africa he was educated in Guildford, Surrey at George Abbot School that specialised in the expressive arts. During these years his creative flare became more apparent when he took A levels in Fine Art, Sculpture and Photography. He progressed onto doing a Foundation Degree in Action Photography at Truro College where he specialised in Sport, the Natural world and Social Documentary and began to prepare for a more commercial direction. Ben still maintained his roots in expressive art during the foundation degree but also developed his technical skills thoroughly. Ben had the opportunity to be the photographer for 24/7 magazines in July 2008 at the Newquay Ripcurl Surfing Festival.
In 2009 he progressed on to Plymouth University to study for his BA Hons in Photography where he achieved a 2.1 studying under Stephen Vaughan and Dr Simon Standing. During this course he spent time looking intricately into the how we view our bodies and others around us. He concluded the year specialising in fine art nudes and portraiture, with a project called 'The Paradox of Perfect Beauty'. This study challenges the ideologies of beauty in history, sculpture and figurative representation and critically analyses the standardised figures and body shape used in art as well as in modern day commercial advertising, fashion and other types of portraiture. In the final exhibition Ben aimed to present a personal discovery of body image and consequent self-affirmation. Ben was fortunate to be able to exhibit some of his work at the D & A D New Blood Exhibition in London in June 2010.
Many photographer say they are good but even the perfect image that ben has he can still see my own flaws in you get the highest quality with me and wont be disappointed. In this digital age many people can snap you but ben can give you an artistic flair, which is also of superior quality. He is sure that you will want to share the photographs he produces. Don't hesitate to contact me to discover more.

Teaching Experience:

i have mainly been tutoring photography from many years to all different ages and abilities from young kid to more mature and from people with learning difficulties to undergraduates, i started my teaching with teaching english in Thailand and working as a assistant youth worker and having to teach different subject and activities.

Tutoring Approach:

i have a relaxed approach to teaching trying to have an objective view to someone work but giving prods and direction where needed i lile for my students to discover the answer themselves and the satisfaction you see from them when this happens is the best part of the job every achievement is given praise and every downfall is looked at as not a failure but a part of the learning curve.

Personal Description:
Postgraduate Student.

I am a twenty-one year old postgraduate student at the University of Glasgow. I enjoy helping students reach their full potential and understand the tricky bits of their material which is escaping their understanding. I am a Canadian studying abroad here in Glasgow and therefore do not have GCSEs or A levels, but I have the equivalent levels from Canadian institutions with top marks. I tutor best in history, my chosen subject, English or French as a second language, and maths, which I not only did well in during secondary school, but all of which I have also studied at the University level. I get along very well with students of all ages and try to make the tutoring experience a fun an interesting one for any student.

Teaching Experience:

Tutoring 1 on 1
ESL teaching (Group sizes from 5-12)
Age range of experience: 7-18 year olds

I have several years of teaching experience in different settings and with different age groups. I've taught English as a Second Language in a camp setting which ran lessons similar to classroom lessons every morning. I had to design my own approaches to various topics which gave me a lot of practice in making studying and learning interesting and easier for children who were less interested or struggling. I also tutored on a private basis for primary school-aged children through the medium of French and English in reading and writing skills as well as the general subjects at that age. I have tutored at the secondary school level in Maths, English, French, Sciences, and History. I have also been a teaching assistant at the University level for both Irish and Scottish Gaelic second language courses as well as a general Celtic World knowledge course.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning should be fun.
Aim is to help student learn how they understand instruction so that they are more confident in their own abilities and can perform better in the future.
Use past work to improve on future work.

Learning should be fun and I strive to make the tutoring experience less about school work and more about understanding the ways in which what is being taught is of interest to the student. Finding ways to improve the student's understanding and learning experience sometimes means approaching the material in a different way than is being taught in class. Teachers understand that not all student learn the same way but cannot always deliver their teaching in all these ways. By helping the student understand the material first and then explaining the method the teacher used to explain it first allows the student to reach their full potential, understand the material, and go back to class with a better chance following the teacher's instruction.

All of this is done in a light-mannered way that does not make the child feel as though tutoring is a punishment for not understanding in class, but rather, a (sometimes lengthy) temporary situation until the student becomes more confident about his or her own skills!

Using the student's own work is an important tool for helping them recognize their own areas of difficulty and should be used again as mock exams to help the student see tangible proof of their improvements. The best understanding of any subject comes from watching it being done/having it explained, doing it oneself, and then teaching it in turn.
