Personal Description:
I am a postgraduate from the Documentary Photography course at Univeristy of Wales, Newport (graduated in 2000). I have worked as a professional freelance photographer since graduating giving photography classes, workshops and conferences to students of all levels and ages. I have extensive experience a reportage photographer, not only in undertaking magazine assignments but also wedding and portrait work. As a photographer and tutor I can offer an in-depth knowledge of darkroom practice as well as digital software editing(i.e. Photoshop, Capture One Pro, Lightroom), having worked both with film and digital media for the past 15 years.

Teaching Experience:

I have over ten years experience in giving photography classes and workshops to young learners (residential camps giving classes to children aged 11-16 years of age) and adults at all levels and abilities. I have taught an extensive range of photographic genres e.g Portraits, Studio Flash, Landscape, Creative Photography, Night Photography, Creating A Narrative(Reportage) and Wedding Photography.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is contextual and task based. I plan and work to the individual needs of the pupil(s), making sure that the classes are fun, interesting and relaxed. I believe with these elements the student feels more stimulated and the information in the learning process is absorbed more easily. One important factor is to concentrate on the student's individual learning potential by giving them confidence and positive feedback throughout the lessons. I can also use such tools as Skype and a whiteboard to provide online distance learning, when travel is not possible for myself or the learner.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified teacher with Cambridge MA, PGCE & DELTA, with 30 years' experience of teaching in a variety of contexts including general secondary school English and Drama, GCSE, A Level, IB, and tuition at university and postgraduate level, including assistance with theses and similar.
I have considerable experience of TEFL/TOEFL and a successful record in teaching Cambridge FCE, CPE, etc as well as Business English classes for non-native professionals.
I recently returned to the UK from Spain for family reasons and I am new to the York area. I'm taking time out for a while to write that elusive million-seller or sitcom! Meanwhile I am a member of SfEP and work part time as a professional proofreader and copy editor. I am very happy to help groups or individuals with their academic needs.

Teaching Experience:

15 years in all key stages of secondary school education in England.
5 years Adult Education, TEFL and private tuition in the UK.
10 years teaching a British curriculum in an international secondary school in Spain at all key stages incl. GCSE, A Level and IB.
Group and individual EFL classes for children and adults, including Business English for professionals and TOEFL in an American-affiliated college.
I have an excellent record of success in preparing students for English and Drama exams - GCSE, A Level, International Baccalaureat and beyond - as well as for Cambridge First Certificate, Advanced and Proficiency in English.
Amongst other notables, I was employed as personal tutor to the actress Rebecca Hall as a child and also to one of Tony Blair's sons!

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a supportive approach and a friendly relationship, but without forgetting it's work: you're paying me because I can improve your (or your children's) future prospects.

Personal Description:
I am a Master's student from Sheffield University. I completed my MSc (Research) in 2004 and have been in the Building Services Industry as a consulting engineer for the past 11 years. I have undergone a CRB check as part of my professional work.

I have always loved to teach, I used to teach undergraduates while I was at University. I like to be a tutor as it helps empowering people and enlightening lives. I shall try to make learning core concepts as easy as possible in order to make learning a highly enjoyable experience.

I have more than a thousand E-Books covering all aspects of Engineering, Maths, Mechanics, Engineering Thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, CFD, Strength of Materials, Heat Transfer in short all Engineering Sciences, I shall provide relevant E-Books to my Tutees for free to help them learn the core fundamentals and also to enable them to do further examples and case studies to reinforce the learning process.

I have got very good feedback and reviews from past students who have passed their exams with good marks.

Awards:
Won the Outstanding Contribution to Sustainability in the Industry (2007)

Teaching Experience:

I have been involved in teaching ever since I was at University to my fellow juniors and here in the UK, I have always loved teaching as a hobby, as it a powerful tool for empowerment.

I have sucessfully taught Engineering Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics to 2nd and 3rd year Engineering students. I have assisted 2 students projects in CFD analysis and Gas Turbines till date. My teaching style involves concentrating on the core concepts in the derivations rather than concentrating on the Maths and then scaling upwards to enable the student to appreciate the Physics and the Maths involved.

However, please note that these subjects are not currently covered under UK Tutors list, these are specialist subjects for which I charge a higher fee depending upon the complexity of the subject as it requires me to do a bit of preparatory study to teach these subjects. I shall advise you of my fee for these subjects after interacting with the pupils.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to make core concepts in Physics and Maths as easy to enable the pupil to understand the concept. Once the foundation is laid properly, additional information can be added to complete the overall structure.
Chemistry involves a bit of rote learning but again core concepts if clear make learning chemistry enjoyable with loads of FUN !!!

I am also looking at online coaching for those candidates who have to travel too far (excess of 20 miles), this is brilliant as it can achieve the same result without the hassle of travelling by using a combination of skype / video conferencing and team viewer. The pupil would need these free to download softwares and off we go !. If the tutee is nearby (1-2 miles) I don't mind driving to teach. We can always work out something optimal between us.

Personal Description:
I have worked in education all my adult life, and ten years ago embarked upon a freelance career which has enabled me to focus on the kind of work I love, and to spend more time with my family, and do the things I most enjoy.

As an English graduate, my greatest passion is literature. I read a wide range of novels, drama and poetry. Authors I have recently enjoyed include Ian McEwan, Philip Pullman, Helen Dunmore, Kazuo Ishiguro... too many to mention!

I spend a lot of time writing and completed a six month course in novel writing with the Faber Academy on which I was delighted to be offered a place. I have had a number of articles and short stories published, and am working on my first novel.

Teaching Experience:

My first job was teaching English to young speakers of other languages during the summer vacations when I was at University - many years ago!

After I graduated in English I qualified as a teacher. My first full-time post was in a sixth-form college, where I taught English at a variety of levels to A-level and University entrance. After two further full-time teaching posts in a 14-19 secondary school and another sixth-form college, I moved into Adult and Community Education. During much of this time I also took on a number of part-time posts, tutoring English, English to Speakers of other Languages, Creative Writing and General Studies in a university extra-mural department, the Workers Education Association and in a number of prisons. I served on the English A-level set books committee of a national examinations board, and have worked as a part-time examiner.

For the past ten years I have been working as a freelance education consultant, trainer and writer. Much of my education consultancy and training work has involved facilitating and coaching young people and professionals in a variety of contexts and a range of subject areas such as communication skills, business writing skills and writing for the media.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer distance and online tutoring, using Skype, telephone and email. When I am working with students in this way I provide them with extensive and constructive feedback on their written work, enabling them to understand how they can improve their coursework and achieve the skills and confidence necessary to write succinct and relevant essays required for examinations. Many of the students whom I have supported have achieved top grades in GCSEs, A-levels and degrees.

I firmly believe that we only learn effectively when we find the learning experience interesting, relevant and meaningful. My first priority is to endeavour to ensure that my students are having that kind of experience! I also believe that learning should be enjoyable and fun. Sometimes, of course, learning is about studying things we are not so interested in just to get through an exam - a means to a hopefully more enjoyable end. In that case I help students to find the most effective ways for them to do just that - and hope that even this might be enjoyable too!

I do not believe that good teaching is about pouring knowledge into students, but is about drawing learning out of them and supporting them to teach themselves. We all have huge areas of strength, skill and wisdom, and I always try to enable students to recognise theirs and to develop them to their fullest potential.

PLEASE NOTE THAT I WILL NOT WRITE STUDENTS' ESSAYS FOR THEM, WHICH I HAVE SOMETIMES BEEN ASKED TO DO!

Personal Description:
I am currently a third year medical student from the University of Newcastle but I have also graduated in Human Sciences from the University of Durham back in 2007. During the holidays I live in London. I have a wealth of experience working with children and teenagers from being a Christmas grotto host at Harrods to volunteering at Great Ormond Street Hospital for over a year.

My work ethic when I was younger was not as disciplined as it is now and I am aware of the difficulties that students can face when it comes to learning new concepts and hope to help tutees overcome these barriers.

Having applied to grammar school, university and medical school I am aware of all the application processes and interviewing processes.

I am outgoing and to keep active I play hockey for my local club and my university college.

Teaching Experience:

I have helped younger family members to grasp ideas and offer new ways of learning if they were struggling. I have had job roles in the past training new employees up and feel this is a mode of teaching.

I would like to extend my higher knowledge to helping students achieve top grades in their GCSE's and A-levels

Within my current course we have peer to peer teaching which has proved to be a very effective learning tool.

Tutoring Approach:

Different individuals have different learning styles, I for one am more visual. I would try to get an understanding of how the tutee learns best, and encourage them to engage in activities that would help them. For instance, if they are visual learners then get them to draw things out.

Encouragement and patience is of great importance and listening to the needs of the individual.

My role as a tutor would be to guide and encourage the tutee to reach their educational and professional goals.

Personal Description:
I am originally from Ayrshire but have spent the last eight years south of the border studying and working. I have worked as an actor, singer and songwriter and continue to do so whilst teaching. I have now moved back to Ayrshire to live and work and continue to be creative.

Teaching Experience:

*Co-founder and Director of a theatre company
*Director of Fringe based theatrical work
*Drama workshop leader
*Drama teaching assistant with final year university students
*Trainee college lecturer

Tutoring Approach:

I am very passionate about what i do and have worked with many different people of a variety of ages and backgrounds. I have studied the works of many theatre practitioners whilst in and out of education, ranging from the naturalism of Stanislavski through to the forum theatre of Augusto Boal, to name but a few. However my goal when teaching is to have a "thinking performer" who knows themselves and the character and connects with what they're doing rather than merely "pretending". I'm an approachable person with a strong work ethic and strive to push someone to reach their potential.

Personal Description:
My name is Simon and I am a graduate from the University of Leeds with a strong 1st class degree in Japanese, Russian and Ukrainian languages. I have completed my MA in Japanese cultural studies and now I have recently finished a PhD in Japanese focussing on the international reception of modern Japanese popular culture.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught all three languages, Japanese, Russian and Ukrainian to all levels to various age groups in preparation for exams and or general study for the students own pleasure. I am able to advise on proper essay style for assignments for all levels ranging from primary to university education.

Whilst studying abroad in Japan and Russia as part of my formal studies I taught English as a foreign language in Konan University situated in Kobe, Japan and in Moscow state university in Moscow, thus I am more than prepared and understand the requirements of language learning both from a native speaker level and as a student.

Having lived in both Japan and Russia I am also very aware and competent with colloquial Japanese and Russian language and am prepared to teach both formal language and once a grasp of the language has been achieved I can move onto more colloquial language skills to speak like a true native speaker

Tutoring Approach:

I tutor in a relaxed environment tailored to each individual student's needs and wishes.I will then help the tutee create a work plan, and work through all areas that need attention.

I feel it is important to target the areas in which a student needs and or wishes to improve in so as to boost confidence. Regarding language study, I firmly believe that self confidence is one of the most important aspects to understand so that steps towards fluency can be achieved.

I am friendly, patient and understanding, and appreciate that everyone works at a different pace.

Personal Description:
I am currently working at the Transport Research Laboratory as a Researcher, having achieved my dream of becoming a Mechanical Engineer from the University of Surrey. I previously worked as a Manufacturing Engineer at Ford Motor Company. It has been an exciting time in the past 4 and a half years, in which I have become more innovative and gained a wide array of skills.

Main points to note about me are that I love to help and am enthusiastic about doing so. Teaching is something I thoroughly enjoy as it allows me to share the knowledge I have gained throughout my journey to entering and succeeding at what is now the 4th best university in the country. If you were to hire me, you can be assured that I will give my best effort in ensuring that my student not only improves/excels in his academic studies, but can acquire some insight or knowledge into what it would take to get into one of UK's best universities. Apart from this, I can provide career advice, opinions and assist in creating an excellent future for the student as I have had experience in interviewing, and undergoing the recruitment process, at massive multinational corporations and small companies alike.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught a number of students privately since October 2012 culminating in a role as a Teaching Assistant at Paddington Academy, alongside private tuition students. In this time, I have ensured my students had whatever they needed to excel in their studies. This includes support, flexibility, patience and proven teaching methods. This culminated in my students' grades showing improvement along with a greater understanding for the subjects I teach.

I also like to help my friends with understanding and grasping topics they do not understand and have done so in the past. No matter who I teach, I always ensure that they have a good understanding of the subject at hand and the ability to do well. Apart from this, I have worked as a student mentor which further improved my understanding of students from various backgrounds and enabled me to learn new approaches in communication. My success is shown by the positive feedback I have received from parents and students alike about the methods employed along with my general approach to lessons. Along with this, I have a history of improving the understanding and grades of the students under my tutelage.

Lastly, I ensure I provide a holistic view of education. As I have experience interviewing in massive corporate firms, undergoing their application process and have provided careers talks at my previous university, I am able to provide advice and recommendations alongside mentoring to help a student discover the method to achieving their dreams. I also provide them with the tools to do so. Simply put, I have assisted students in learning for the classroom and for the real world.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a friendly approach to tutoring. I try to establish a friendly relationship with the person I would teach. This, I feel, creates a nice atmosphere in which the student would enjoy to learn. I try to relate what I am teaching with practical and interesting examples. At the end of teaching a new topic, and whilst teaching too, I would assess the student to see where he/she stands. The key here is to ENSURE that the student understands what he/she is doing as this is essential to successful results. In order to achieve this, I employ a lot of patience and switch up teaching styles based on the student's needs.

As exams approach, I assess the student using past papers to ensure he/she has the best of chance of passing the exams with good results. Apart from this, I also assist the student by teaching him/her improved note taking techniques, summarising techniques and other useful information to enable the student to use this knowledge throughout his/her education such as A Levels, school, university, etc. I provide homeworks and help summarise notes into easily digestible briefs to refer to just before tests or exams. I am generally strict with marking the aforementioned exams/homeworks and pay attention to particular details as this helps my student in terms of achieving better marks. Passing is always a priority but in my opinion a pass is not enough. I would try to ensure my student gets good marks and not just a pass, i.e. an A, as it is my firm belief that with my help, this is possible for any student I teach.

I inspire my student to not only become better in their studies, but become the best version of him or herself so as to have the correct attitude and ability to achieve their dreams. I show them the big picture and paint an image of the success that awaits them through hard work.

One key point which sets me apart from all the other tutors is that I have first hand knowledge in what it takes to enter a good university along with career advice. This is due to the various number of companies I have previously interviewed it or undertaken the recruitment process for. I also ensure I provide dedication to the job and give everything I have to help improve my student's chances of success. All in all, I provide a holistic approach to my tutoring and ensure the student's needs always comes first.

Personal Description:
Hello, I am in my forties and I live in Worthing. I specialise in teaching English as a foreign language. I welcome teaching both individuals and small groups with everyday, educational or business English.

I enjoy travelling, meeting new people and learning about other countries. I have just returned from teaching English in Japan for four years, which I loved.

I also have experience working in both education and business in the UK. I was a primary school teacher for eight years and worked in insurance for 11 years.

Teaching Experience:

-I taught Keys Stage 1 and 2 for eight years in an East London primary school. The majority of which did not speak English regularly at home.
-I carried out training on technical insurance issues as part of my job with the insurance company.
-I taught English in two of Japan's well known English conversation schools (ECC and AEON). I worked with students ages ranging from 18 months to 70+ at all levels from beginner to advanced. I also did some work in a few Japanese kindergartens and some summer relief work in a local Worthing language school (CES).

Tutoring Approach:

I like lessons to be fun and the students to feel relaxed. The needs of the students comes first as everyone is different.

After an initial assessment ,I agree with the tutee a lesson progress plan. The lessons will have a clear goal and will relate to real life wherever possible.

Please note that all lessons with children should be at their home with a responsible adult present or available.

Personal Description:
I am a voracious reader, and was therefore tempted to choose English as my main subject in university, but eventually decided on French. I studied at Stanford University for four years, including one year through its study abroad programme in Paris. I have also worked many years as a professional musician, touring in the UK, Europe, USA and Mexico.

Teaching Experience:

I taught English to high school students for one year in France.
In a night school in Utah (USA) I taught English as a second language to adults.
I have taught music (guitar, ukulele and piano) for nearly 10 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in student-centred teaching, so rather than impose strict rules I approach each student as an individual in order to find the best approach for gaining skills and confidence in the subject. Structure is also important, however, and it's important to use exercises and repetition to really come to terms with a subject. Games and songs have their place, too; let's have fun while we're learning!

Personal Description:
I am a very easy going 'people-person' and I am incredibly passionate about learning, character building and the sharing of knowledge. Much of my teaching experience was gained as a camp counsellor or during my Masters (an MRes in Humanities) at Stirling (which is also where I undertook my BA with Honours in History with Religious studies). Presently I am doing a part-time PhD in History at the University of Glasgow. As well as being passionate for interdisciplinary learning and educating (I want to be a lecturer one day) I am also a keen musician and sportsman. As such I believe that learning is an all-round experience which hones the individual. Moreover, I believe that its what you learn about yourself (what you like and want and how you 'tick') that is the most important part of a learning experience. I look to help with this as well as with the 'itty-gritty' of the details of the topic at hand.

Teaching Experience:

I have several years of experience working with children (8-12) and teenagers (12-18) through volunteering as a counsellor for holiday camps where I led a variety of lessons such as sports (I have also done some rugby coaching), arts + crafts and learning about literature and various scriptures. I also have considerable experience in aiding with university level and adult learning through auditing seminars and tutorials, giving lectures and talks and convening reading groups.

Tutoring Approach:

As an interdisciplinary academic I always strive to aid - in any capacity I can - in one's own journey towards a knowledge and understanding of a topic or discipline. For my Tutees I can always be relied upon to build an excellent rapport, to be flexible and to deliver a unique and outstanding service. I tend to be very 'hands-on' with my approach to learning in general but I mainly strive to be a guide; to talk issues through with my tutees in order for them to arrive at revelations for themselves. During this process I aim to help with any queries, theories or problems which arise during that said journey. I am always delighted, however, to give lessons and one-to-one-talk sessions on particular topics in order to boost my tutee's overall knowledge and understanding of the topic at hand.

Personal Description:
Prospective Parent or Tutee, I am William (or Billy for short). I am an engaging, enthusiastic student at the University of Southampton, currently studying History. I am looking to become a full-time teacher after my studies.

I love learning and wish to continue doing so my whole life, but I also love sharing knowledge too! I always strive to inspire students to have the same enthusiasm for learning that I do, an enthusiasm which is the key to success in any subject.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching and working with children has always been a passion of mine:

Firstly, within my former secondary school's framework i have plunged myself into any opportunity to help other students. This includes academic support to younger students, a role as a literacy mentor (including certified training) and the direction of a group of 11-17 year old's to produce a record breaking performance in our annual drama competition, of which I am incredibly proud of to this day

I have undertaken a work placement within my local primary school as a classroom assistant, involving valuable experience in one-on-one contact with pupils, as well as voluntary work in a children's art club

Tutoring Approach:

I am not the perfect student and never have been. The problem with most Teachers and Tutors is that children see them as TOO good and therefore distant.
Children often look up to me because I am

1. Not really old!
2. I'm not perfect.
3. I teach THEM that its okay to not be perfect, which is the first step to achieving a positive learning mindset

That being said I approach tutoring with with high expectations for my Tutees, aiming to stretch every last ounce of success out of them, whilst not pressure them so much as to dishearten their progress. I am also adaptable to and can establish a working relationship with a variety of age groups

Personal Description:
Hello there. I am an experienced Latin tutor and am currently completing my PhD in Classics at the University of Edinburgh (2013-2017). I have an honours degree from University College Dublin (2008-2012) and a Masters in Classics from Trinity College Dublin (2012-2013).

I truly enjoy tutoring and understand that people come to learn Latin for many reasons. My main aim is to support my students throughout their learning and to help them achieve their own unique goals.

I live in Colinton, Edinburgh and am happy to receive tutees at my home or travel within a reasonable distance.

Teaching Experience:

I have much experience teaching Latin. I taught Latin to two undergraduate classes at the University of Edinburgh in 2015-2016. This course covered all of the grammar in Wheelock's Latin as well as unadapted Ovid. I received excellent feedback from my students and was nominated for a student teaching award for my work.

I also have much experience teaching younger students and children. I have taught short Latin courses at various primary schools around the country and I was heavily involved in the founding of the Literacy through Latin programme here in Edinburgh, which aims to introduce Latin to state primary schools. As part of this, I spent a year teaching a class of 10 year olds at Liberton Primary School and this experience has provided me with the skills to teach and enthuse younger students.

I believe that an interest in Latin can be sparked at any age and have had great experiences with casual learners. Most recently, I worked with a tutee in her 50s who had no previous experience of Latin.

I have also received formal tutor training at the University of Edinburgh between 2014-2016.

Tutoring Approach:

Latin truly is the key to languages and I know from my own experience that the skills and tools acquired through Latin make learning other languages a much easier process.

I believe that translation is the best way to learn a language and therefore, I always tailor work to each individual student and adapt my teaching to their specific needs.

I know that language learning can make people very anxious and so I always approach my tutoring with the utmost patience and aim to provide care and support throughout the journey.

To put it simply, I love languages and I love Latin and I aim to impart this enthusiasm to all of my tutees.
