Personal Description:
Success is within your grasp.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Laurence, and I am a local private English tutor.
I have a degree in English Literature (2:1).
I am a fully qualified teacher, and have my QTS certificate (Qualified Teacher Status) to prove it.
My experience of exam marking for GCSE's, leading English Departments and being classified by Ofsted as an 'Outstanding' teacher ensures that progress is accelerated, meaningful and genuine.

Teaching Experience:

I have been Head of Department, GCSE Manager, Monitoring and Assessment Manager, a GCSE Exam marker, an A Level exam marker and I am also consistently classified as 'Outstanding' according to Ofsted requirements.

My largest concern for my students is to make sure that their confidence is built up by becoming pro-active and independent learners. All too often teachers 'spoon-feed' their students, leading them to a false sense of security in their skills, which therefore leads to poor performance in examinations.

I also view myself as an 'English Coach', as I place a very big emphasis on ensuring that students have the right frame of mind when approaching studying English. Confidence, and belief in their own ideas, is so important for students to have, and all too often this lack of confidence is instrumental in why they are not performing as they should be.

I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you and hope that it helps. My passion and focus is English, and I aim to pass this passion on to all of my students through lessons that are filled with fun, engaging discussion and exciting tasks. My particular areas of expertise is helping students to prepare for English GCSE examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

I have held the post of Head of English at a school in Staffordshire, and I have led a team of exceptional English teachers. Having held other management positions in other schools as well, with management focus on both key Stage 3 and 4, I have built up a wealth of experience and knowledge that I can now put to good use within the sphere of personal tuition.

I am also an experienced examiner, having marked for a leading exam body for five years now. This has helped me enormously to build up a very clear understanding of what exam boards require from students.

Last year's results saw a continuation of my fine record of exam success, where my class achieved 100% A-C in their GCSE examinations. My current year 11 class are predicted to have 5 A*'s, 10 A grades and fifteen B grades. This will be the finest set of English class results in the school's history.

I have built up tremendously successful working relationship with my clients, and parents who I currently work for, and worked for, have happily created testimonials for me which I would be able to provide for your perusal upon request.

Personal Description:
Hi! My name is Mark and I have lived in Belfast for 20 years. I have always loved mathematics, and loved learning more about it. I hope to pass on my enthusiasm for the subject to you and help you maximise your potential. If you're coming up to major exams, I can help you get the best grade possible for you!

Teaching Experience:

I have lectured in Queen's University for 10 years, and have been teaching others mathematics for longer. My private students have done well with my support, and I can bring the best out of you too.

Tutoring Approach:

For some people maths is easy and enjoyable - you just need help sharpening up your examination skills and revising in a new way to get a top grade.

For other people maths is a challenge - you get the general idea but need help understanding some principles, and certainly need to practice in order to get the grade you deserve.

I have worked with both types of people for years, and I can work with you! I offer one-to-one tutorial sessions, in my home or yours, backed up by email and telephone support where needed.

Personal Description:
I have a thorough knowledge of UK NC requirements and continue to work closely with CIE and Edexcel. I am very well organized and try and structure learning so that every student is clear and comfortable as to what is needed to swiftly progress between levels and am quick to intervene where this is not the case. I am a strong believer in making teaching and learning fun, meaningful and thought provoking - encouraging collaboration, presentation, debate and discussion as much as possible. I am an advocate of inquiry based and active learning where appropriate and in making the learning process as memorable and enjoyable as possible. At the same time I remain conscious of the need to constantly maintain the high expectations, pitch, pace and rigour which are needed for exam success in years 10-13. I pride myself on the fact that pupils of all levels and abilities enjoy coming to my classes even though they know they will have to work hard and apply themselves to the best of their ability. I am student centred, approachable and patient.

Teaching Experience:

I have been part of a number of very strong and well organised Humanities departments in the UK, Spain, Asia and the Middle East each of which has enjoyed high take up rates and excellent exam results and from which I have learnt a great deal when it comes to effective teaching and learning. I value collaborative working and the sharing of best practice and am proud of the network of solid contacts I have built up over time as well as the relationships I have built and maintained among staff and students, in the UK and abroad. I take care to keep up to date with the latest pedagogical practice and regularly attend events at the Institute of Ideas and the Historical Association. I am also currently working towards my Masters and am genuinely interested in reflecting on how young people best learn and how to best achieve a balance between exam success and love of subject

Tutoring Approach:

I am always looking to take on board ways in which I can improve what others and I are doing in order to raise pupil engagement and thus attainment and firmly believe that if something is worth doing it is worth doing well - and then improved upon second time round. A portfolio of pupil work, results and student/parent feedback is available. I am aware of the need for stimulating tutoring coming as it does at the end of a long day of study and have a proven track record of engaging students and getting them the top grades at every level.

Personal Description:
I am a university student currently studying at the university of St Andrews for a Honours program in Zoology. I am a native French speaker ( I actually am French) and was awarded the distinction of best French A-level results in East Africa in 2011, with a score of 499/500. I performed well both at IGCSE'S and A-levels ( IGCSE 6 A*'s and 4 A's, geography, Chemistry and Biology were among the A*'s, and are the subjects I took at A level, in which I achieved A* AA in the same order).
Last year, after a long and complicated admission process, I was offered a place to go study at Oxford University, but unfortunately had to decline it due to financial hardship.
I have lived in Kenya for now 7 years, and have a genuine interest in animal behaviour and conservation.

Teaching Experience:

I do not have much experience when it comes to teaching to be perfectly honest, although I often volunteered to be a student helper for those who had difficulties with certains subjects in my whole school. I am very familiar with the A-level syllabus by CIE, and the exam techniques required at this particular exam board.
I can offer advice and assistance with university application process too, as I was tutored to match Oxford requirements in terms of personal statements and interviews, I can also give you some tips about the Oxford interview processes.

Tutoring Approach:

I will first ask the person to tell me by email what their difficulties are, and what they would like us to go through together so that I can get together the information and any details necessary before meeting and discussing it. I am fairly flexible, everyone learns in a different manner and I will try my best to match my tutoring to the person's learning habits.

Behaviour Management (CH welcomes children from all social and economic backgrounds - I taught several students with severe behaviour difficulties & troubled home lives)

As Actor In Residence I worked as a drama teacher, activity leader, LAMDA/Trinity coach, director, producer and I assisted in the day to day running of the 500 seat theatre. I taught 2nd and 3rd Form (Yr 7 & 8) drama using existing schemes of work alongside those I created. I taught over 150 pupils per week and as their only drama teacher I was responsible for their reports, three-weekly grades and parent's evenings. The school were so pleased with my contributions to teaching they offered me twice my teaching hours in my second year. I also team taught Yr 9 lessons and I assisted with directing etc in GCSE and A-Level lessons. Alongside academic teaching I led Drama 'actives' after lessons where I created and lead a one hour drama workshop several times a week. Working at Christ's Hospital also gave me the chance to work in a busy theatre environment combining set design, prop making, theatre maintenance, stage management and front of house management. I also directed and co-directed several shows including 'Anything Goes', 'The Crucible', 'Grim Tales', 'Ernie' Incredible Illuciantions', 'Easy Virtue' and 'The Jungle Book'. I have also experienced all aspects of Boarding School life and pastoral care as 98% of students are full time boarders.

Communication Skills - Working with very young children with no English language

Each Summer I taught English to children aged 7 - 12 from around the world. I lived on site (in a boarding school environment) and I was responsible for teaching, entertaining and caring for the children twenty four hours a day. Having worked for the company for several years I reached the level of Assistant Director and Head of TEFL for the residential course. I was responsible for a team of teaching staff and I ensured they were delivering suitable and stimulating English lessons throughout the course. I also taught a class of my own. As Assistant Director I was a senior part of the management team, ensuring all activity and teaching staff were working happily and correctly. In the absence of the Course Director it was my responsibility alone to ensure the smooth running of our course. I often had to deal with couriers and families and I know how to project a professional, caring, enthusiastic and genuine image. I developed my team work skills, learnt how to thrive under immense pressure and my communication skills were constantly used to their full potential.

During a work placement with the Sheffield based theatre company Point Blank I worked with a partner to devise and deliver a cultural drama workshop. I worked as a mentor for two international students who had travelled to the UK to teach school children about their cultures. I taught the two international students how to deliver a successful drama workshop and I helped them shape their own ideas into an educational and enjoyable drama workshop for Primary School children. Alongside this project I also worked with an English partner to create a cultural workshop for deprived children in the city. I contacted The Sheffield Children's Centre and created a relationship with them enabling us to take our workshop to underprivileged children who had never had the chance to express themselves through drama.

June - September 2006 - The Funzone - Playworker

The Fun Zone provided after-school and summer holiday childcare play schemes for children, aged three to twelve. I would lead activities, play group games, prepare and cook the children's meals, clean the rooms, supervise children and be responsible for groups of children on various outings and trips throughout the summer. I learnt how to work with children and how to work effectively to carry out duties such as cooking and cleaning, while making sure the children in my care were both entertained and safe.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly, fun and experienced tutor. I believe a healthy dose of humour and kindness is important when teaching and I am a very professional and hard working person.

Personal Description:
Hi,

I have many years teaching experience at every level from Key Stage 3 to post graduate.

During these years I have become acutely aware of how valuable it is for young learners to progress to secondary education with a good grasp of key skills, particularly in Maths. Since retiring from full time teaching I am focusing on working with primary age students to help them develop these skills.

Teaching Experience:

Maths teaching in a number of secondary schools at GCSE level + Key/Core Skill Numeracy at college level.

Tutoring Approach:

I see Maths as a language. In simple terms the language of numbers (let's not get too bogged down in the tricky stuff like algebra at this stage). As with all languages, if it's one you're familiar with it's pretty straightforward. If it's a 'foreign' language it can be a complete mystery.

Unfortunately all too many young people progress to secondary school feeling uneasy about their understanding of Maths and therefore develop a mistrust or even fear of the subject. The longer such reservations are held the more deeply ingrained they become. A fear of Maths developed while in primary school can hold learners back at all subsequent levels.

My aim is to help young learners develop a positive and confident relationship with the subject at the earliest possible age.

I am easy-going, positive and creative, have a cheerful personality and outstanding communication skills which have always helped me to build excellent rapport with students.
I love what I do.
Teaching for me is not just a job, it's a vocation, a passion that help me be a better version of myself and as a result I am deeply respected and highly appreciated by my current and former students.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English as a foreign language for 17 years and have never worked anything else. I have taught students of various ages and backgrounds, mono and multilingual classes and all levels of General English and Cambridge exam levels (PET, FCE and IELTS).

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching approach is eclectic, practical and student centred. I design my lessons so that they suit every student's individual needs and I ensure that they are not only productive but fun as well. Regular feedback is provided and the student's progress is checked through various practical tasks, in real-life situations and tests. Social and cultural activities and visits to museums, galleries and other places of interest are available on request.

Personal Description:
Hello! If you're looking for intensive revision before an important exam, or long-term assistance throughout the academic year, then look no further. I graduated with first class honours in 2014 having studied Business Economics for 3 years at Nottingham Trent University. Since leaving University I have pursued a career in financial services, which has given me the perfect opportunity to apply many of the skills I developed throughout education to real-world situations. I have had a keen interest in maths and statistics since a young age, demonstrating my ability by achieving an A at GCSE in Maths and an A in Statistics. This was a contributing factor towards my study of economics given how the two subjects interlink, achieving a B at Economics at A level. All of these skills were brought together at University, with my degree heavily reliant on the use of statistics as well as algebra and other important maths concepts. I am keen to help you/your child achieve their maths goals, and I hope that I can use my use of maths in my every day work to show how important maths and economics skills are both academically and for the real world.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my time at school, sixth form and university I was always keen to teach peers both as part of large groups in class and on an individual basis, something I enjoyed because it helped me to develop my own skills and also because of the reward of seeing someone else do well as a result of my help. This has included me teaching a fellow GCSE student at the time of my own studying, as well as more recently helping a colleague with her entrance exams for her PGCE teaching exams. I also completed a week of work experience at my local primary school, which was an opportunity for me to develop my coaching skills in the best environment.

Tutoring Approach:

Having personally varied my own learning techniques throughout education dependent on the subject and the learning environment, I understand that every individual learns in a different way; I will use the early stages of tutoring to gauge the needs and learning styles of the tutee, and alter my teaching to these needs. Whilst I am keen believer that each individual has their own learning style, I also believe it is important that everyone tries new styles to work out which is most effective for them. Personally I like the use of extensive notes when first learning to understand a concept or theory, and then more concise notes that can I can use to prompt myself later on. Finally, I think that encouraging someone to regularly sit previous exam papers can develop the skills in a more applied environment whilst also helping a student to be more relaxed when it comes to the real exam situation.

Personal Description:
I'm well prepared to teach Fine Art at GCSE, A-level and causal learning.
From taking my GCSE, and A-LEVEL Art a year early, to achieving the Highest Joint International grade in GCSE ART and Design: Fine Art I have a thorough understanding of of all three exams and work books, and what the examiners are looking for.

I have previously studied at and had several pieces of work displayed in Marbella Art Gallery, and also sold various pieces.

I'm a friendly, open-minded 19 years old student currently studying a BA Russian and politics degree at University College London (UCL)
I lived in Southern Spain for 3 years, and have a high level of conversational Spanish, and a good understanding of basic grammar and usage. From my personal experience, no matter how much you're taught at school, the best way to UNDERSTAND and learn any language is to use it !

Teaching Experience:

During GCSE ART I played a key role in helping fellow students develop their artistic eye, and see the development of their work book as a 'tick box' exercise; which proved very effective, especially for those who struggled with mandatory teaching

For both ART and SPANISH I've gained a lot of experience through helping, understanding and listening to younger children and adolescents, simple from having a large family and teaching family friends.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to show my students how experimentation, development of ideas and evidence of inspiration are the keys to not only a rich, varied work book, but also an exam piece that ticks all the examiners boxes.
I can help my students see Art at these levels as an examiner 'tick box' exercise, yet still retaining high levels of artistic skill and development. At the same time If any of my students require greater focus on technical drawing/painting guidance i'm more than prepared and experienced.
I'm also happy to use my own work books and pieces as examples of my style.

For SPANISH, I have good conversational skills, and believe the best way to learn any language is to submerse yourself in it - so conversation is a great place to start! From doing all 3 levels of exams at school, I can say that this is the one thing that lacked the most. My style is flexible and I am great with younger children (I also have a young sister who I also helped with Spanish). I'm ready to adjust myself to which ever level is needed

Personal Description:
Hello, i'm a third year Biology student at Swansea University currently doing dissertation work on parasitology. I feel that learning should ALWAYS be fun and interactive as well as informative. I am currently at 2:1 level at university and know about all the stress and anxiety that schooling can put on you. I am very outgoing and friendly, and believe my skillset would help out persons who just need that extra bit of help. I am doing biology at University, but undertook my A-Levels in History, Geography, and Biology, getting A*A and a B respectively. I hope that i can be of service and help you or your child to reach the level they can achieve!

Teaching Experience:

I have done causal tutoring in the past, for family friends and my younger brother. I believe that being a student myself has given me a good insight in what approach to take to tutoring, and that this approach can be more beneficial and cheaper than some professional tutoring agencies.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring to me is a special role you can play in someones education, giving them a non-formal setting to learn new ideas information, while outside the stress of exams and teachers. I believe learning should ALWAYS be fun and interactive, as well as informative, but a balance needs to be struck. I use computer resources as well as books to provide an all round learning experience.
