Personal Description:
I first started tutoring some of my fellow students in Elementary Logic during my second year at University and greatly enjoyed helping people improve their understanding of the subject and gain higher marks. Once my degree was completed I began tutoring A-Level students in Religious Studies and Philosophy in the Leeds area before moving to East Sussex.

The potential of tutoring can only be maximised if each student feels comfortable in lessons, so I actively try to cultivate a good working relationship with each student. After all, if I were not enthusiastic and passionate about the subject it would be impossible to motivate any students to be enthusiastic about it! So far all my students have improved their performance by at least by two grade boundaries following tuition with me.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked with students with a broad range of abilities, from those that need some extra help to reach their full potential, to those that aren't in mainstream schooling and as such don't have any previous knowledge of the subject. Some students are very visual in their learning, others are very shy and need a lot of encouragement to speak, and there are others who are extremely capable if you ask them the right questions. Using a range of resources I can tailor a programme of study to suit each student.

During my time tutoring I have noticed how easily students can lose confidence in their abilities, which at times can be a barrier in their learning. By encouraging students to ask questions, looking at what they are doing right and breaking down topics into their simplest formulation, I help the individual gain confidence in the subject and the skills to answer questions fully.3

Tutoring Approach:

My role as tutor is not only to help the student understand the concepts involved but also to gain the confidence to discuss those concepts in an analytical manner. Religious Studies and Philosophy are disciplines that greatly benefit from one-on-one tuition due to the complexity of the issues. In large lesson groups individuals can easily become confused and aren't always able to receive the instant feedback needed to further explore the subject matter.

As a tutor not only do I expand students' knowledge base but also engage students in a positive way with the subject. If students have been finding a subject difficult their enjoyment of learning can become affected and they can lose the motivation needed to gain a broader understanding. By showing enthusiasm for my subject and using relevant examples and discussion points I reintegrate fun back into learning about the subject.

Personal Description:
Hi

I have just finished a PhD in maths at Newcastle University so it goes without saying I'm enthusiastic about both maths and physics. On top of this I have a wide variety of interests, and this allows me to find ways of explaining things that the people I'm tutoring can relate to.

Teaching Experience:

While studying at Newcastle I've taken many tutorials for students taking courses in Maths. For the past 6 years I've also worked in a tutoring drop-in centre where any student at Newcastle University can come to ask maths questions. I've always enjoyed this work as over the course of a day I can be asked how to apply maths to many problems from mechanical engineering to fine arts!

I have also done a lot of private tuition of A-levels for all of the major examining boards. I have often got this work from referral of satisfied customers.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed and friendly tutoring style.

I usually find students learn best by working through questions or examples, but I am also happy provide teaching of entire subjects from scratch. So if you're having trouble understand the material needed to pass an exam/assignment or wanting to learn about a subject from start to finish I will be able to help.

Personal Description:
I am an organised, sociable and confident individual with a can-do attitude, I have discovered that I possess skills and attributes which are transferable within many different job roles both related and unrelated to my education. These include: Reaching targets (personal and professional). Writing memos, notes and feedback, record keeping, communication with office, school faculties, parents and carers. I speak several languages, including Hindi, Gujarati French and Spanish.

Teaching Experience:

Having working for education for 15+ years and covered various areas from: special need, controlling classes, providing feedback for absent teacher, observing health and safety of all involved people. I attend meetings, first Aid, in house and external training days. Report abnormalities, Feed back etc.
I have worked for interpreting services in a various sectors: Independent tribunal, social services, School and OAP organisation. I handle invoices to and from.
I have worked for weekend school for Children, Youth and Family University, where I supported family and children of all ages and back ground. Bought resources, issued invoices, planned lessons and delivered according to dead line.
I get on well with all ages and back ground. I work on my own and as a part of a team. I speak several languages and translate the too , for example, Hindi Gujarati, Urdu, Punjabi.

Tutoring Approach:

Students and parents both want academic success - high grades and the pride that comes with achievement. I believe any student, regardless of ability, can become a high achiever. I know from years of experience that students under perform because they have not learned the right approach or pathway to success.

Any school has the same essential components: attendance, class participation, attentiveness, homework and testing. Most teachers give students points for each category; however, simply showing up on a regular basis and "doing" homework will not guarantee a good grade. The difference between average performance (a "C" student) and high performance (an "A" student) turns on what a student does outside of class.

While no two students learn exactly alike in exactly the same manner, all students must struggle with independent learning. Where do I do my homework? When do I do my homework? How do I do my homework? Am I well organized? If not, how can I become better organized? Do I know how to study for quizzes and tests? If not, how can I develop better study skills? Students who discover the answers to these questions become high achievers.

help students become stronger independent learners by developing a customized approach to their needs, cognition and retention. Students can spend hours working very hard but working inefficiently to the point their effort fails to translate into results. I create personalized organizational plans so that students learn how to maximize time, work efficiently and retain key information not just for the short term but for the long term.

Personal Description:
My name is Dave, and I live in the Inverness area. I have a degree in History (Hons), and my area of expertise is UK and European social history from 1700. I have also studied US history, Scottish history, and European political history.

I also have a Masters Degree in Employment Law and Practice through the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen.

In my spare time I coach school football, and have done so for 8 years.

Teaching Experience:

While I have no formal teaching experience, I have home tutored several children of friends. I have also coached hundreds of children up to age 16, in football lessons. As head coach for the local school, I have taught not only technical skills to children, but just as importantly, instilled a sense of self belief, and confidence, in their abilities. The confidence to express an opinion is vitally important and I do believe that, when it comes to history, belief in ability in expressing one's own viewpoint is crucial.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to encourage self belief, and achieve this through a relaxed, proactive approach to the subject matter. I can critically analyse a students written work, and suggest ways of making those all important changes in order to achieve higher grades.

Personal Description:
I am a 29 year old CELTA qualified native English teacher with over 7 years teaching experience. I'm currently working at a British council accredited school near where I live in the city centre.

Teaching Experience:

The majority of my experience was at International House (IH), Sevilla, Spain. IH is an internationally recognised organisation for the teaching of English as a foreign langauge. During 5 years there, I specialised in preparing students for the Cambridge exams (KET, PET, First and Advanced).

Aside from that, I have worked in 5 different countries and so I am familiar with the difficulties faced by learners from many different language groups. My experience includes all levels, ages, one to one and groups.

In my present job, I am preparing a group for the IELTs exam.

I have also had a great deal of experience focusing on specific areas such as writing, checking CVs, proof-reading and business.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning comes from the student and that the role of the teacher is to support the student in this process. So, I always look to provide a context and environment in which a learner can develop. The context must be real and relevant to the students needs.

As a teacher, I have developed an in-depth knowledge of the language and learning resources which I can use to help students achieve their goals. I also believe that the learning experience does not start and finish at the beginning and the end of a class. Part of my role as a teacher is to plan and evaluate how learning objectives can be reached outside of class. For example, students should review and try to apply what they've learnt as much as possible and spend time practicing skills which they need to improve on a regular basis.

Personal Description:
Having recently just graduated from the University of Leeds with a qualifying 2:1 law degree, I am now living back at home in St. Helens, Merseyside. I work weekdays as a graduate paralegal at a law firm, but in my spare time I would love to tutor people whose position I was in not very long ago. At college I did Law, English Language, Sociology and Geography. Law was my strongest subject which encouraged me to study it at University. I am extremely easy to get along with and have a real bubbly, down to earth personality.

Teaching Experience:

I have no teaching experience; however, as a recent graduate, what I do have is a big understanding of how difficult and daunting it can be to balance work time and down time. I have a great amount of patience and due to my love for Law, I feel I could teach what I know with great compassion and enthusiasm. I take pleasure in helping others and would go above and beyond to help someone reach their full potential.

Tutoring Approach:

Having studied Law for five years, I understand how much case law, facts and dates need to be retained. I would be able to show students the methods I used to help me remember such information as part of exam preparation. It's also key to problem solve and go through questions methodically and systematically, triggering cases as you go along. Past papers are a good way to do this, thus I could provide some of those and we would work through those together. At A-level I did Criminal Law, Tort Law and Contract law, so would feel most at ease teaching those subjects. I also got a 2:1 in all those modules at University and completed my dissertation in the field of Criminal Law.

Personal Description:
I`m a practicing artist who shows regularly around the UK at such events as The Other Art Fair in London and Bristol. I`ve been shortlisted twice for the BP Portrait Award as well as participating on the SkyArts Landscape of the Year television show.

I`ve been published in the FreshPaintMagazine, New Artist magazine, After Nyne magazine, and I`ve been featured on BBC Radio.

I specialise in Oil Painting and Drawing, and I also teach watercolours, acrylics, and I have an extensive knowledge on artists (especially contemporary and deceased painters).

Teaching Experience:

I've taught workshops at various levels (from Secondary School to Adult Learners), from small to large groups.

I've performed painting demonstrations at various locations - from Cass Arts to art societies in the Midlands!

Tutoring Approach:

I take a patient approach to teaching where I first gauge the skill of the learner and then I challenge them to help drive them forward with their understanding.

I have an extensive knowledge of art materials, the science behind seeing, as well as artists (past and present) that gives me the ability to clearly communicate with the learner (using plain language) on areas of improvement.

Personal Description:
I hold a BSc (Hons) Mathematics, 1st class from the University of Manchester as well as an MA Music, Distinction from the Royal Academy of Music.

I grew up in Watford, studying at Watford Grammar School for Boys. I achieved 4 A Levels grade A including Maths and Further Maths, 1 AS Level grade A, and 11 GCSEs, 9 grade A* and 2 grade A.

I am a mathematics tutor and freelance classical musician (viola), with my work featuring performance with top UK orchestras, chamber music and outreach work as well as a teaching portfolio working with children and adults.

In my spare time, I enjoy astronomy, cycling and playing the euphonium with the Army Reserve Band of the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment.

Teaching Experience:

I have recently relocated to Liverpool and am looking to build up a tutoring profile here. In previous academic years I have had the following distribution of students:

2015-16: 7 A Level, 5 GCSE
2014-15: 3 A Level, 5 GCSE

All of my students have achieved over and above their expected grades.

In addition, I teach the violin and viola to children and adults, from beginner to diploma level. I should clarify that I don't teach academic music, rather am happy teaching instrumental music to the age groups listed. I am able to combine mathematics tuition and music teaching for individuals who would be interested.

Tutoring Approach:

For those studying A Level and GCSE Mathematics, it is very important to be able to identify areas which require work and bring these to the attention of a tutor; my approach to mathematics tutoring is a student lead approach. I also like to instigate discussions about general study and revision technique which can be transferred to other subjects as well. Given the appropriate contact time with me, students are always prepared for exams well in advance.

I offer an introductory session at no fee. This is for myself, the student and parent(s) to get to know each other, and also to discuss where the student would like help.

My music teaching approach is focused on general musicianship and encouraging the enjoyment of playing. I do work on grades with my students but prefer to allow them to develop to a point that I know they will be able to pass their exams easily. Many students who are taught with too much of a focus on grades give up and stop playing altogether, and this is the reason for my approach.
