Personal Description:
I am a 24 year old female language graduate, with a passion for my subject and getting others involved in it too! I am highly enthusiastic, organised and hard-working, and have experience of teaching both formally and informally. I just love the rewards of seeing people succeed, so do everything I can to make that happen.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English as a foreign language at a University in Italy, and at an Adult evening class in Italy.
I have taught Italian and French on placement at Secondary and Primary Schools in the UK.
I have taught Bible Studies classes to teenagers aged 14-18.
I have taught a Nursery class for children aged 18months - 4 yrs on a voluntary basis.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the key to being a successful tutor is to initially establish the needs of the tutee; namely the end result they want from the course, and how they learn best. I am very flexible in my teaching and believe in tailoring a course to suit individual needs; whether it be in making learning more fun, or stretching the mind on a more traditional basis. Either way, when teaching languages, I believe that attributing learning to reality is essential.

Personal Description:
My name is Jasmine and I have just over three years teaching experience in Piano/Keyboard, Guitar and Theory, with a 100% pass rate in all exams from the initial grade, up to grade 8.
I have also had experience working in several semi-professional bands, performing in front of audiences of up to 1000 people.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in several primary schools, as well as visiting pupils at their homes, giving individual lessons or group lessons with up to seven people at a time.I have taught people of all ages and abilities, with my oldest pupil being 75! I don't believe you're ever too young or old to learn music, and therefore anybody who wants to have a go, I'll be happy to give lessons to!

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning any instrument should be fun and interesting, and that it is also important to always be working towards new goals. Whether it's working towards an exam, practicing for a performance in front of an audience, or even just learning your favorite song, I think that having a specific aim is essential, as it maintains enthusiasm and gives a sense of achievement to the pupil once they have reached their goal.
I often organise concerts for my pupils to take part in, giving any one that wishes to take part, the chance to perform in front of a live audience, boosting their confidence and often leaving them feeling inspired by listening to each other's work. Any money raised from these concerts goes to a charity voted for by the pupils, as this also helps to boost their C.V.

Personal Description:
I am married with a 3 year old son and a 6 month old daughter.
I have a 1st Class Honours degree in English from the University of London and have worked with children at both primary and secondary level (up to the age of 18). I successfully completed the first half of my PGCE teacher training course before leaving to have my son and plan to complete this in the future.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a part-time literacy tutor for 3 years in a primary school, teaching children to read and write both on an individual basis as well as in small groups.
I have taught in secondary schools (including GCSE and A-level classes) whilst doing my PGCE.
I have also been a private tutor for a number of years.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is student-centred. I strongly believe that every individual learns differently and it is my job as the tutor to work with parents and students to find the most effective way for him/her to learn. Each student needs something different from a tutor, whether it is to work on subject knowledge, exam technique, study skills or a combination of all three. My approach and lesson content will vary to match the student's needs.

Personal Description:
I'm a freelance translator with an MA in Literary Translation from Exeter University. I originally graduated in Spanish and German from Kent University in 2002, after which I travelled around Europe and worked for some time in London as a PA at the Chartered Institute of Linguists. I love anything to do with languages and would like to continue to my involvement in education.

Teaching Experience:

After graduating, I spent a year teaching English in Spain and London (all levels to both children and adults), and for three years I worked as a Saturday morning Spanish teacher for children aged 5-11. I've also done some voluntary work in primary schools working with children with difficulties in Literacy, and am currently doing some private tuition in GCSE Spanish and GCSE German. In the past, I have also tutored GSCE English Literature and beginners' Spanish for adults.

Tutoring Approach:

After the tutee lets me know what areas he/she would prefer to work on, I can prepare some relevant material and build on that: I have plenty of books, CDs, sheets and Internet material! I am keen to let the tutee work at his/her own pace and not feel overloaded with information, although it is also important to feel challenged. Particularly for children's lessons, I would be using games and pictures. I aim for the lessons to be relaxed and enjoyable and would hope that the tutee feels comfortable and encouraged, and not awkward about making mistakes.

Personal Description:
I am a very enthusiastic teacher, using varied, modern and attractive teaching methods and materials. Lessons are fun, motivating and most importantly, effective.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as a school teacher for 5 years, and as a tutor for almost seven years. I have also worked as an adult trainer. The ages of my students ranged from 5 to 60, so I have experience in working with all age groups.

Tutoring Approach:

A private tutor can help children overcome the difficulties they face at school, or make them look deeper into the subject matter, go beyond the curriculum. Any child has abilities and talents. What they need is someone who can help them discover these qualities and I know I can do that.

For adults it is always a bit more difficult to learn a new language than it is for children, but with the appropriate methods and techniques, they can surely do it.

Personal Description:
I have chosen a career in teaching because I want young people to develop not just academically but also socially, morally and culturally, through dynamic, passionate and effective teaching. I believe that I am a good role model for young people and can inspire them to reach high targets and goals.

Teaching Experience:

I graduated with a an 2.2 Honours Degree in Aeronautical Engineering after studying for Four years at the University of Limerick, which I believe gives me a solid understanding of the subject. The advanced mathematics I studied allow me to challenge students to think outside the box and to always question before accepting in mathematics. I have good knowledge of KS3 and KS4 Mathematics which I want to teach to young people in a fun and energetic way. I finished the 1-year PGCE in 2007 attaining all the QTS standards. I have just recently passed my induction year as an NQT. I have spent approximately 3 years teaching in secondary schools around the Greater Manchester Borough which includes primary and sixth form experience.

Tutoring Approach:

The subject is often misunderstood and unreasonably feared, yet I believe it to be simpler and more logical than any language. I believe in building a solid foundation in understanding before moving onto more difficult concepts. My teaching methods are also tailored to the needs and abilities of each individual student where each student can be assessed on these grounds. I try to make the tutoring process as interesting and fun as possible but students are reminded that work is required on their part, to gain maximum benefits form each session.

Personal Description:
I recently moved from the Brecon Beacons where i led an extremely active life to follow my career path, teaching in Cardiff. I have been playing hockey for a local team for the past season and intend on staying with them for the following at least. I also do karate and triathlons. I have volunteered and travelled all over the world, my most significant experience would be teaching in Cambodia. I am a highly motivated person.

I am a fluent welsh speaker(For Welsh Speakers only)Es i i Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg ac wedyn dysgais trwy'r gyfrwng o Gymraeg tan cyrraeddais i Blwyddyn 11, wedyn croesawais draw i Saesneg i gorffen fy Lefelau A, ers hyny rydw i wedi ymdopi gan siarad y iaith trwy gwaith ag efo'r teulu.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified further education teacher whom has worked on a supply basis with primary, secondary and post 14 ages through the medium of welsh and within the Special Educational needs Sector. I qualified with a specialism in Sports Science and therefore can teach maths and biology to GCSE Level comfatably and could teach Sport Science to Degree level. I am currently doing a 2 month placement at a Welsh medium secondary school in the Rhondda Cynnon Taff area. The post consists of teaching PE, Maths and Personal and Social education. Previous to qualifying I managed a supported housing project for 16-25 year olds whom had previously experienced some challenges throughout their lives. I would tutor these with Basic Skills and skills that would assist within their specified Special Educational Needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I love the one on one approach of tutoring because you can best change your teaching/tutoring style to suit that person. I believe that everyone can learn but it is how they learn that makes a class situation sometimes difficult. In order for that teacher to give 100% to every person then they require a million styles of teaching all at once and that is impossible.

If I am honest I was not the brightest in the class during my schooling days however once I applied the subject to something I enjoyed it became so much easier. A person can lose interest the majority of the time either because it is TOO EASY or it is TOO HARD, the goal is to keep the interest by raising or lowering the bar.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying for a masters degree in chiropractic which requires a high level of scientific knowledge. Before this I did a degree in English and I also have 7 Scottish Highers (equivalent to A level) and two advanced highers. I have tutored in the past and have a full CRB check as this is required for the medical course I am currently doing.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since secondary school, helping younger pupils to improve their reading. While at university the first time I had a job at both universities in Newcastle tutoring students with disabilities.

Tutoring Approach:

From my own study experience I have many methods to help to learn and understand and remember information. I think it is most important to find each individuals' best way to learn and work with that as some people are more visual and others more practical.

Personal Description:
I am a 22 year-old graduate with a 2:1 Bsc degree in Psychology. I would describe myself as a very friendly, down to earth person. I have a passion for learning, and helping other people to do so. Having received tutoring myself from an early age, I now wish to be a tutor and pass on the advantages that this has given me.

Having had piano tutoring from a young age, I am of grade 6 standard and have achieved grade 5 in music theory and clarinet. Therefore piano and music theory are some of the area's I am interested in tutoring.

In September next year I am aiming to begin a PGCE teacher training course in Primary Education. Since completing my degree in June 2008 I have been fortunate enough to have worked at Buckingham Palace and Harrods, as well as volunteering as a teaching assistant 1 day per week at 3 different schools.

Teaching Experience:

I had my first teaching experience during my school work experience placement at a school for conductive education. It was this which first sparked my interested in working with young people in an educational environment. Following this, whilst carrying out my A Levels at school I assisted in some year 7 and 8 German Language lessons.

Following the completion of my degree I decided to take on some voluntary work as a teaching assistant in 3 different schools. Here, I learnt the importance of adapting teaching styles to suit the needs of the pupils. 2 of the schools I was working at were in very unprivileged areas, where as the other was in a very affluent area. The characters and learning styles of the children were very different accordingly.

Tutoring Approach:

I would like to talk to parents prior to the tutoring session about their opinions on the pupils learning style. Establishing whether they are more of a visual, auditory or tactile learner will help me prepare for lessons.

I will set activities for the pupils to complete between sessions, and report back to parents about their child's progress.

Personal Description:
I am a 2nd year PhD student studying Neuroscience at the University of Bristol. I have lived in Bristol for 5 years (after completing my honours degree here) and thoroughly enjoy the city life, having performed music at several venues. I love to socialise and play sport frequently and I generally lead a very active lifestyle. I like to read, particularly philosophy and fantasy, but must admit to spending most of my time working on my PhD thesis which I aim to complete by September 2010. I thoroughly enjoy the company of others and have found myself to be adept at communicating with all different kinds of characters. The idea of tutoring appeals to me because I like to help people and I have always found myself good at translating seemingly difficult concepts in terms which people can understand.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored undegraduate students for two years at the University of Bristol. This entails taking a class through set assignments which relate directly to their course lectures, requiring the ability to translate concepts with clarity and help students with general skills that will assist their progression through their academic career. It also requires a lot of essay marking and progress evaluation, which takes a lot of time and careful consideration.

I am also a tutor at a university hall of residence. This often involves organising events and disciplining students. But often students need counselling on either their choice of subject or university, or more generally assisting with the invariable melancholy which is associated with the first year away from home.

Tutoring Approach:

In maths and the sciences, I believe there are two ways in which to convey a concept:
1. By analogy - eg. substituting apples and bananas for a and b in algebraic equations
2. By methodology - eg. teaching rigid routines for solving said equations without the need to understand what is being done
I believe that a careful mixture of these two approaches is required for an adequate appreciation of a concept or idea and it depends entirely upon the concept, subject and most importantly the child and their particular frame of mind.
I am a good listener, am very patient and will understand when a child becomes frustrated that they are not progressing as they feel they should. As I have not always achieved my highest potential in school, I can relate to why learning can seem tedious at time. But I am on the cusp of an academic career which I am very excited about and I know that in relating this excitement I can impart at least some of the enthusiasm required to take academic life seriously.
I will set assignments, which will complement their studies, and will need to see that those assignments are done in order to assess progress. Most importantly I feel that your child will enjoy my company and hence look forward to extra time studying.
