| Personal Description: Before coming into teaching, I worked in the Music Industry as a professional session singer. The work was varied and diverse. I sang with many named artistes and toured on an international level. I also have extensive experience in the recording studio. In 2005, I deceided to 'change direction' and studied Performance Arts, gaining a BA Hons Degree in the subject in 2008. I studied Shakespeare, Stanislavski and many other drama practioners and methods. I feel that because of my life experience, I bring a very friendly approach to my teaching. Also, being a 'mature student' myself has added to my understanding of needing alittle 'help' at times. My approach is a mixture of theory and practical. I like to make sure that my student understands where he/she is approaching the given subject - be it an acting method or a scripted reading. |
Teaching Experience: After graduating with honours, I went on to gain a Post Grad teaching degree (PGCE). I have been teaching singing privately for the past eight years and started teaching drama and performing arts since 2006. Whilst doing my PGCE, I was employed as a part-time lecturer for performance arts at Salford University teaching 2nd year degree students. I teach at a private performing academy with children whose ages range from 6 to 18 years old and at another private acting academy that is attached to ITV studios in Leeds. Because of all my experience, I am able to cover three subjects to any level - drama, singing and Musical Theatre. |
Tutoring Approach: On our first meeting, I like to find out just where the student is at in their given subject; what their past experiences are and what their expectations are of having extra tuition. An understanding of their strengths and weaknesses is also important to find out at an early stage so that together, we can plan a way forward. I am a friendly, patient and easy-going person with a very good sense of humour but I take my teaching very seriously and remain quite passionate about drama and performing arts on the whole. I always like to make sure that the student leaves my class with full understanding of the work we have done and will ensure that any questions or concerns are addressed before the end of the lesson. |

| Personal Description: Currently a finalist reading English literature at the University of Warwick, with a special interest in practical criticism and the philosophy of literature. Upon graduation in 2010, I will be completing ITT (initial teacher training). I've tutored privately in the Midlands area for the last four years, offering an exceptionally high standard of tuition at competitive tariffs. Evaluating information aggregated from agencies, guardians and tutees, I make effective decisions that generate coherent, structured schemes of work tailored to the needs of the tutee in question. The thought and care taken in my lesson plans is attested to by the retention of tutees for lengths of two years; this fact speaks also of both my ability to teach, and ability to work as a private tutor supporting and supplementing the mainstream education that tutees receive at school. |
Teaching Experience: I boast experience across a broad educational range: I've delivered one-to one tuition; facilitated revision groups of variable sizes; acquired a portfolio of classroom experience; tutored at a variety of key stages levels, from KS 2 to KS 4; tutored mature learners through IELTS; devised and delivered long term as well as intensive short term tuition. In addition, I've also coordinating learning activities for a virtual education environment. My duties included the specific responsibility of devising strategies to help site users overcome barriers to learning and participation. |
Tutoring Approach: As a preliminary, an informal meeting with the guardians and tutees takes place first. This allows us to identify the focus for the tuition, as well as discuss any other anxieties, be it about the tuition process or a specific outcome the tutee wants to achieve from tuition. Regarding the tutorials, there is no set formula or pattern as they are planned specifically for the individual tutee; rather, a general trajectory for tuition is planned at the outset and agreed upon. This constitutes a loose scheme of work, from which specific plans for the tutorials are drawn in response to the tutee's progress and needs. Non-contact work, homework, reinforces the tutorial, and provides a means to asses and evaluate progress, and (importantly for all concerned), allows us to discern if the tutorial was successful, and act accordingly. Non-contact work, is however, a flexible entity and where it is set, additional online support is always readily available. All work is returned with feedback, with clear and constructive advice for improvement. With all this in mind, tutorials are, invariably, planned ahead of time and guardians can request to see copies of plans up to four lessons in advance. Practically, tutorials compromise a variety of activities, from the mundane to the seemingly absurd, past examples include: use of music and dance for the "spelling marathon", an activity designed to equip learners with the basic functional skills of English necessary for them to access the curriculum (KS2); using space and movement to analyse literary texts (KS3-4); deriving character profiles from grammar and syntactical relationships rather than the 'story line' (KS3-4); borrowing terminology from other disciplines, such as psychology and philosophy, to carve out new perspectives from which to talk about literary texts (KS3-4). If you'd like to learn more about my character, the tuition process or the tutorials, I'd be happy to put you in touch with the guardians of previous tutees, or forward their references to you. Likewise I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have. Group tuition tariffs available on request. |

| Personal Description: I am 28 years old, married, with two small children. I enjoy reading, writing, running and travelling although with a young family, the latter is becoming less frequent. However, I will assess and monitor their progression to ensure that all areas of weakness are covered. I am willing to check coursework, prepare students for a particular exam or can even off help with general revision techniques. |

| Personal Description: I am 22 years old, and a recent graduate of the University of St. Andrews (June 2008). I attained a 2:1 degree classification in Art History and Modern History, Joint Honours. I am originally from New York City, and I have been living in the UK since I began university in 2004. History is my strongest subject, and I pursued it to dissertation level at university, specializing in 20th century Europe. In high school I achieved A marks in Advanced Placement in U.S. History, Spanish, and English, which is equivalent to an A in the UK A-Level. My 6 years of Spanish language classes, combined with travel in Spain, has developed my skill in Spanish speaking, reading, and comprehension. I am eager to help others master these subjects. |
Teaching Experience: I have experience teaching in a museum setting, as I assisted visiting school groups at the Talbot Rice Gallery in Edinburgh during my internship there. I also instructed children aged 9-13 in boating and swimming at a summer camp in America for two summers. I enjoy working with young people, and I have babysitting experience as well. My communication skills are excellent, so I know how to convey a message clearly, and how to apply it to something the tutee will connect with. Overall, I have a good understanding of the patience, empathy, clarity of communication, and kindness that is necessary for effective teaching. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is very much centered on what the tutee wants to achieve. I would like for he or she to feel that the progress he/she makes is contributing towards a goal he/she has outlined, rather than an imposed one. We will agree on a clear goal for each tutoring session, and we will begin each session with a review of the previous session's material. I feel that repetition and review are very important, and I will assign tasks for each session so that this is followed through. It is also important to use hands-on learning, so wherever it is beneficial we will use a computer, books, images, creative projects, etc. to help illustrate points. Tutoring is also about building confidence in a subject, so I will also focus on changing the tutee's approach to the subject. I am a very patient person, and I know that everyone learns differently, so above all, I will tailor the tutoring to the tutee's goals and needs. |

| Personal Description: I am a young theoretical physicist and a mathematician. I got my BSc in Physics with Space Science in 2007 and MSc in Physics in 2009 from University College London. I remain at the same university to read PhD in Mathematics, researching in the area of mathematical and theoretical cosmology. |
Teaching Experience: I have had several students over the last 2 years and I particularly enjoy teaching A-Level and university foundation level students. |
Tutoring Approach: My approaching to teaching is to make students learn through examples. In doing so, students will not only gain problem-solving skills and understand the theories better, but also will be well-prepared for the exams at the same time. I believe it is very efficient way to learn and most suitable for subjects like Mathematics and Physics which you cannot remember everything but must try to understand underlying principles and must be able to apply them in different contexts. However, different students have different tastes to different teachings and I am therefore prepared to be adapt the way the student wants me to. |

| Personal Description: I a currently studying Chemistry at the University of Manchester, in my 2nd year, and am back in Oxford for the christmas holidays, and will be back again for my easter break in April. I studied Chemistry, Maths, Psychology to Alevel and Further Maths to AS-level. |
Teaching Experience: I don't have any teaching experience but as I have not left school too recently everything is still fresh and will be able to help students to understand more complicated concepts and help to go through past papers, and give general revision tips that I have found to work for me and friends. |
Tutoring Approach: Initial session to overview what the tutee would like to gain from the sessions and any particular problems with the learning material. Then after that I am willing to go about the tutoring sessions however the tutee would find most helpful. Sometimes this is going through past papers, usually with them having attempted them beforehand, or just going through material which the tutee needs help with. |

| Personal Description: I was most recently working on a self employed basis in London as a Piano Teacher - a position I occupied for around 3 years. Prior to this, I graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance and with The Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music Teaching Diploma. |
Teaching Experience: Teaching has been an important part of my training, both at the Royal Academy of Music and at the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music, and I believe my experience would serve my students well. As you will see from my CV, in addition to meeting the demands of a full-time academic schedule and receiving Master of Music Degree from the Ukrainian National Tchaikovsky Academy of Music, I have considerable teaching experience in several areas of music. Moreover, during my time at the Royal Academy of Music, I performed in many of the world's most renowned concert halls such as Orff - Zentrum in Munich and Kremlin in Moscow. I have previously played in BBC concerts and also visited Italy, Spain, Norway, France, Russia, Ukraine, USA and Finland for solo concert performances, all of which were very successful. |
Tutoring Approach: As a teacher, I hope to motivate students in using their inner strengths and abilities to help them discover what truly inspires them. I aim to provide a stimulating learning environment that encourages students to trust their own opinions, whilst fostering confidence in themselves in order for them to realise their full potential. Through my teaching experience so far, I have found the method of facilitating rather than dictating to be a highly beneficial style of teaching. I have learned that if students construct their own learning experiences, then they will not only retain information longer, but they will also become more confident in their abilities. |
