Personal Description:
I'm an Associate of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Institute for Learning. I work as an A-level tutor, examiner and AQA adviser to schools. I have a PhD in Biochemistry and have published several scientific research papers.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching and tutoring A-level chemistry for 11 years. I specialise in the AQA exam board and work as an examiner and adviser to schools. I have also been teaching online for 5 years using the EvoTuition tutoring platform and have new digital teaching resources for 2017. I previously taught at Durham University and received the Durham University Teaching and Learning Award in 2011. I now tutor exclusively for AQA due to my work for this exam board (since 2013 I no longer offer tuition for OCR, Edexcel or CIE boards).

Over the years I have tutored hundreds of A-level chemistry students. My lessons are based around developing exam technique as well as improving understanding. Last year, I produced a full set of new teaching resources and practise questions for the new AQA specification, which I share with all my students (the new specification started in September 2015). I am happy to offer a free 30 minute trial lesson and answer any questions.

Tutoring Approach:

Personal Description:
I have an easygoing and pleasant demeanour, a nice sense of humour, and I generally get on well with my tutees. Although I like to have a friendly relationship with my tutee, I try to employ a professional manner at all times. I am a man in his early, middling years, who enjoys seeing others fulfil their potential.

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced teacher, who has taught privately one to one for a number of years. I have primarily taught English on a one to one basis for tutees who are preparing for their GCSE and "A" level examinations, but I am also experienced in helping tutees improve their literacy skills from a young age. I also have a wealth of experience of teaching English as a Foreign language on a one to one basis. I have taught in a number of language schools over the years, and at one point started a language school in southern Italy. I have considerable experience teaching English up to "A" level standard in secondary education, and I have over fifteen years experience to draw upon.

Tutoring Approach:

One to one teaching, by its nature, is very intense, so it is very important to introduce variety as much as possible. A mixture of written work, as well as oral work, if required is essential to keep the tutee focused and interested in what you are teaching. It helps, sometimes, after an intense session, fot the tutee to have a short break, before continuing.

Personal Description:
I am a very keen and enthusiastic university graduate and love to help others learn. I specialize with children and young adults. I am a good role model as I am bubbly, show confidence and balance my career with my social life including my sports (rock climbing and snowboarding).

I have a range of experience in childcare and tuition and find different ways for my pupils to understand the materials they are learning. I find ways in which they can relate to the information which helps them retain the information for longer.
I have had several years of experience with private tutoring producing great results (please ask if you would like a reference).

Teaching Experience:

All throughout my University degree I was working part-time at Explore Learning, a Maths and English tuition center designed to help children with their national curriculum between the ages of 5 and 14. This has given me valuable experience on many different teaching techniques as well as keeping up to date with the new learning strategies that children are using in their day to day learning at school.
My one on one tutoring experience ranges from GCSE level to Primary Maths and English including other topics such as Current affairs.
On a sporting level, I gained my Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors qualification in 2009 and have continued to teach snowboarding over in Italy with Interski in my university holidays.

Quote from a reference: 'Rabia will definitely miss your cheery and happy persona. She has had other tutors but with nowhere near the enthusiasm and effort that you put in! She looks forward to you coming and has a real connection with you.'

Tutoring Approach:

I have many different approaches to learning, dependant on the age of the pupil. I like to use targets and rewards to keep motivation levels high and learning is fun by relating the subject to my tutee's everyday life. I ensure there are several reviews and assessments to enhance progression and keep on track.

Certified professional Marketer (Asia/Pacific)
I am a retired lecturer from Sri Lanka, and I have been teaching Economics, Business Studies and marketing in Schools (Edexcel Specifications), Academic levels and professional levels in Sri Lanka.

Teaching Experience:

I have more than 15 years of teaching experience (Lecturing). The theories what I have studied and have been teaching is universal. When I teach any subjects mentioned above, I always quote UK examples and also world examples and refers to UK case studies where its appropriate. Over the past few years I have prepared many students successfully in Economics and business studies In AQA, Ed excel and OCR specifications. In any syllabus specification the theories are same,
Home visits are possible with in 15 miles from SM6 area and can consider other areas with prior negotiations.

Tutoring Approach:

I follow the syllabus provided by the exam board, to teach each topic. Then I go through past papers, explain how to answer the questions. I expect students to do the papers at home and give to me for marking. I go through their answers and explain how to answer the questions. My teaching approach is, first I assess the student's current knowledge regarding the subject and thereafter I pitch accordingly. I use simple language and current examples in explaining the theories and concepts. Also I give and discuss past papers with the student and guide them in the correct method in answering a question. I give home work from selected past papers. I prepare a simplified handout for every lesson and this handout is the final reading material for the examination. Sometimes I dictate short notes during the lesson and my teaching sessions are interactive, where the students are encouraged to ask questions and express their current knowledge about the subject. At present there are number of satisfied students. I am unable to disclose their identities with out prior permission from them. My first lesson is free of charge. So that the student will have a chance to judge my approaches to teaching, subject knowledge, my mannerism etc.

Personal Description:
18/03 - Please note that on UK Tutors as both student and tutor to pay a fee before addresses can be exchanged. I have had quite a few people think that I profit from this fee but I really do not, I too have to pay a fee between 10-20.

In 2012, I completed my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Genetics from the University of Nottingham and in 2015, I completed my masters in Psychology. I have been an enthusiastic learner since a young age and hope that through my lessons, my students will also develop a passion and interest in the subjects I teach. I am looking to hopefully teach A-level students that require help to get a better grade. I am also happy to teach younger students.

I have taught Biology and Chemistry up to A-level standards across the most popular exam boards since graduating in 2012. As a result, I have an endless number of exam questions, worksheets and booklets to give to students from day one of teaching. I believe in learning little over a long period of time and working out a strong revision technique. Whilst, I wish all my students can achieve A/A* grades, hard work, motivation and revision are the key tools to achieve high grades, a tutor should only be a tool in your learning, not someone you rely on completely. Whilst I understand that my prices are high, I believe I am also fair. I don`t mind if students stay for longer than an hour if needed and am always happy to reply to emails for homework help.

In terms of future careers, I will be completing my PGCE in Secondary School Chemistry in the coming academic year and would like to eventually become an educational psychologist.

Since graduating in September 2015, I work as a teaching assistant in the Milton Keynes area, in particular in special needs schools, which means I am generally free after 3pm to teach students.

With regard to my CRB check, I was checked by Stoke Mandeville Hospital in 2013.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in total, over 20 students studying GCSE and A-level Biology/Chemistry/Maths on either AQA or OCR exam boards.

I teach Sunday to Thursday from 4pm to 9pm

Please note, I am happy to offer the first lesson free of charge for long term students, if it is only one lesson you need, then please make this known to me. The first hour is generally a "get to know me" session and finding out what areas the student wants to work on.

Tutoring Approach:

After teaching solidly since November 2012, I have been able to further develop my teaching skills. To begin, I start with revision techniques, worksheets and make new, very detailed, class/revision notes with my students. After developing a solid understanding, I begin with exam questions as I have been able to collect a solid amount of questions (exam and school questions). Every lesson, I print out worksheets and notes for my students as well as give them homework. Essentially, what I offer are school lessons that are more detailed and focused than what they receive in school. Through these methods, I am able to thoroughly assess a student's abilities, increase them and hopefully better their grades. However, I stress, students must work hard themselves to achieve good grades.

Parents often ask me about discount, I am happy to discuss this for long-term students and 2 hours lessons

Personal Description:
Hello,

I am an open-minded, friendly tutor who is able to see things from different perspectives. I am not long out of university and very much understand what it's like to be a student and the processes and pressures that you need to go through.

I am passionate about my subjects and have studied and loved them all the way from GCSE to Masters level. I take joy in discussing and explaining them to others and have undertaken a wide range of historical and political studies. These include, but are not limited to:

- English history: 1485-1702
- The British Empire
- UK History: 1900-2013
- UK Politics: 1945-2013
- US History: 1776-2013
- US Politics: 1945-2013
- US Foreign Policy
- Germany: 1900-1945
- (Italian) Renaissance Wars 1494-1559
- General European History
- Middle Eastern History and Politics: 1900-2013
- Russian History and Politics: 1801-2013
- Chinese History: 1900-2013
- The First World War
- The Second World War
- The Cold War
- Intelligence networks
- EU History and Politics
- The current euro zone crisis (I wrote my Masters dissertation partly on this)
- Political Science concepts
- Political Philosophy

I have done a fair amount of travelling and have had some incredible experiences. I am a big fan of European languages and speak some Italian, German and French (as well as a bit of Russian).

Teaching Experience:

I have a considerable amount of experience tutoring both history & politics privately. I am comfortable teaching in person or across Skype.

I also have teaching experience in other areas such as music and sport. I attended Brighton Institute of Modern Music (BIMM) during my gap year to attain a music diploma and have taught guitar ever since. Additionally, I have taken a course to become a Level 1 tennis coach and as a result have worked alongside local tennis coaches to provide drills and technique improvement sessions.

Tutoring Approach:

As someone who has achieved high As in History at GCSE and A-level (A*s were not possible at A-level at this time), a 2:1 with numerous firsts at undergraduate and a merit average during my masters degree, I am fully aware of the means to achieve high grades. I am very friendly and understand that different students have different ambitions. I start any private tutoring with a conversation about what the student wishes to gain from the lessons. I am always careful to make sure the student is given help to the level they require so they can excel at their current qualification.

In the case of exams, my approach is largely syllabus and exam-technique focused. I will make sure the student does gain a comprehensive, confident understanding of the subject matter, but will want to pass on an in-depth knowledge of what the examiner is looking for. This approach is designed so that the student can best maximise their grades. I am able to help with providing a structured and planned approach if the student so desires.

However I am not a tick-box tutor who is not able to see the bigger picture. I am aware that a proper understanding of the subject is not only vital for overall development but also to achieve the necessary level of confidence a student needs to succeed. I only stress the importance of the syllabus and exam-technique because exams are (largely) grade-outcome orientated.

I look forward to tutoring you if you so wish! All the Best, Richard

Personal Description:
Having a doctorate in Applied Mathematics and after teaching at university level for 14 years (still counting), my passion towards mathematics encouraged me to motivate much younger students in schools towards this extra-ordinary subject of Mathematics. With this idea, I successfully completed my PGCE from Institute of Education, University of London and am currently teaching in an outstanding school in North-West London. Here, I teach all abilities and all year groups in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, and also co-tutor a year 10 class that includes pastoral care as well as looking after their academic progress. I have been able to develop an in-depth knowledge of the Mathematics curriculum including 11+ and keep myself updated with all the changes happening in the UK education system to ensure that my students receive the correct guidance and support. I specialise in teaching applied and engineering mathematics.

Teaching Experience:

I have 14 years of teaching experience at various level and my students range from teenagers to adult learners. Teaching is my passion and life-long career and I am providing private tutoring for about four years.

GCSE Mathematics: All exam boards
A Levels: All exam boards and all modules
Mathematics for BTech and Engineering diploma
Mathematics at higher level, including mathematical modelling

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that every student is capable of understanding this beautiful subject, all your child needs is a tutor/mentor who can understand her/his current abilities, future targets and how best she/he can achieve them; and just guide through to the success. Once they get the correct support and work ethic, they are bound to shine as a star. I will spend time with your child and design an individual teaching programme that suits their needs and abilities. They will not only be able to develop their strengths in the subject but also be able to fill the gaps in their knowledge. As a full time Mathematics teacher, I can ensure that you will get a dedicated tutor who is trained in one of the UK's best universities and is practicing teaching mathematics in one of the outstanding schools in the country.

Personal Description:
Hello, I am from Paris, I have a honour degree in Arts from the University of Edinburgh (2003), and have been making painting and ceramics since then.

I love culture: the arts, music and literature so I am currently learning German and improving my Spanish because I want to explore more European cities.

My current favourite writers are George Sand and Elena Ferrante.

Teaching Experience:

I trained as a secondary school French teacher 10 years ago in Wales.

Since then I have been teaching French to undergraduate students, to adults in evening classes also at university and in private lessons, and to pupils in one to one after-school lessons.

I have been a supply teacher in secondary schools in South Wales so I am familiar with GCSE and A-level requirements.

I currently live in Scotland, Glasgow.

Tutoring Approach:

After approaching my student on her/his chosen areas of focus (GCSE pupils can expect to improve their writing skills as much as or even more than their speaking skills, while professional people may prefer to be more at ease first with their conversational skills) I try and devise lesson plans that are well-focused and engaging.

I use recent and stimulating resources such as French films, documentaries, online blogs and magazines.

Having done some acting in my early twenties I like to take inspiration from the feeling of acting and improvising. this does not mean that my students end up reciting impressive French speeches standing up in a cafe, but rather that I have a mind that naturally tries to create situations that lend themselves to role playing or improvising moods, etc.

I have been a language teacher for more than 5 years, teaching Mandarin and English as a foreign language in the UK, China and Italy. I have been employed by a number of language schools in China and Italy, including "Gaoxin No.2 Primary School" in Xi'an, China, and "ispeakenglish" a private language school in Sardinia, Italy.

Tutoring Approach:

Before lessons begin, I like to communicate with students about their learning goals to discuss what they want to achieve from the lessons. The curriculum must be discussed to see what exactly students want to learn, for example if they want to study reading and writing as well as speaking and listening.

Lessons will be bilingual, with a focus on communicative skills to practice and strengthen students' knowledge of new grammar and vocabulary.

Personal Description:
I completed my PhD in History of Art at University College London (UCL) in 2013. I have published my research in a number of academic journals and edited book collections, and I am a practicing artist, permently based in Hulme, Manchester.

I am currently a Society Research Fellow at Cornell University Society for the Humanities (USA) for the academic year 2016-17, and will therefore only be available for Skype appointments until the end of July 2017.

Teaching Experience:

I am a fully trained secondary school teacher, specialising in Art & Design and Photography at KS3, KS4 & KS5. I have 9 years teaching experience, including working as a specialist Learning Support Teacher, and in Special Needs schools catering for children and young adults with a range of special educational needs, from moderate learning difficulties to profound and multiple disabilities.

I have particular expertise in studio practice (art and design), digital and darkroom photography (theory, history and practice), literacy, social and vocational skills, as well as History of Art, Anthropology and History of Medicine at undergraduate level.

I am also experienced in teaching at undergraduate level, having taught gallery-based first year History of Art courses, for University College London's History of Art Department, and on the History of Art degree programme at the University of Manchester.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a one-to-one, flexible approach to learning and teaching, which first establishes the needs and goals of the student, and then sets out clearly structured strategies for achieving these goals. These may be results-focused when preparing for exams, or aimed at developing a broader understanding of a subject area, depending upon the student's own priorities. I am happy to work with any course materials the student may provide, and I am familiar with all current GCSE and A Level syllabuses. I am able to guide both GCSE and A Level students through their studies, offering consistent, dedicated 1-2-1 tuition for the full term of the course. I can also provide practical tuition for students who are preparing their art portfolios for University submission, and can offer assistance with UCAS forms and references for students who undertake long-term A Level tuition with me.

Tutoring may take place at the student's home, or at my art studio in central Manchester, where I can provide a range of art materials and resources by prior arrangement, for more intensive practical art sessions. Please note that I can travel within 20 miles of central Manchester based on the fee structure quoted below, travelling further will incur a small additional fuel fee.

I have had recent successes with my private students, one of whom attended one-to-one sessions at my Manchester studio for 8 weeks and improved her predicted GCSE Art result of a B by two grades, achieving an A* in her final art exam. My most recent undergraduate student also attained a First overall in her History of Art degree, achieving a high score of 78 on her dissertation project, with intensive tutorial support conducted via Skype.

*Please note that due to the time-intensive nature of undergraduate level tutoring, I am only able to take on a maximum of three undergraduate tutees at any given time. Please see below for my current availability for tutoring at this level.*

I am currently tutoring ONE undergraduate student.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS

GCSE Level:

A Level:

University Undergraduate Level:

"I wanted a tutor to give me help and advice on my undergraduate history of art dissertation. I needed reassurance that what I was writing was okay and some one to proof read and give me their opinion on my arguments. Gemma was brilliant, she gave me the confidence that I needed to keep going with my dissertation by reassuring me that I was on the right track. She discussed my ideas with me in detail, proof read all of my work and suggested and sourced articles that I might want to have a look at. I have recently graduated from Newcastle University with a First in History of Art and Media and I know that I owe Gemma a huge thank you for the support she gave me on the way to achieving this."

Personal Description:
I`m a Spanish national who has been living in England for 10 years. In that time I have shared my passion for Spanish language and culture with many students of various ages and levels of ability, from small children to adult learners. I have a degree in English Studies, specialising in Spanish language for foreigners. In addition I have completed a number of courses and training related to teaching languages.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at Bhasvic College, Brighton University, Sussex Downs College, private tuitions and after school classes, amongst others and have more than 15 years of teaching experience. I`m also specialized in tutoring classes for GCSE, A level, AB students or other exam related class. With these classes students not only gained the ability to improve their knowledge in the target language, but also got the confidence to communicate in Spanish, something some of them lacked. I also guide them and give them advice in their essays as a normal tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

Enthusiasm and professional attitude ensures that your learning experience will be both enjoyable and rewarding.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that when tutoring to take a fun approach, teaching in schools kills creativity and children are born creative I believe when tutoring to try and nurture that creativity be it in maths where I can show how it would work in the real world, or physics where I can set up fun experiments or music where I can show how that would work when playing in a band or at a gig

Personal Description:
I'm an independent consultant, trainer and facilitator, working mainly in the business world. I design and run learning workshops in collaborative decision-making and lean thinking for companies of different sizes. I also facilitate Open Space events, inviting large numbers of people to co-create new ways forward in self-organised events where all the participants are at the centre and not a menu of speakers. These are like 1-or 2-day Hackathons, within organisations, such as Innovation Hackathon, Greenup Hackathon and Reinventing Work Hackathon. I also run similar events on demand within communities, in order to bring out engagement, inviting members of communities to co-create and co-determine aspects of their community.

In the business world I'm a bit of a change maverick, wanting to create a better world, and especially better workplaces where people can thrive and grow, rather the usual drudgery of work. Organisations benefit from that too from become eco-systems that thrive innovatively. I learned my 'participative' 'tools' from many years of experimentation and from working in different parts of the world. I have lived in North America, Europe and in Asia, and have travelled way beyond that.

Teaching Experience:

Most of my early teaching experience started with 13 years' English teaching to mainly corporate clients in Japan. I consider myself a highly experienced, versatile and resourceful former Language Teacher (TEFL), Tutor and Coach with further background as Intercultural Consultant. I have extensive experience teaching English in Asia, with expertise in accelerated learning techniques (e.g. suggestopedia) and Peer-based learning through Self-Organising Learning Environments.

I have taught classes and individuals at various levels and for various purposes. I have also done of business English and specialised English for professionals. While I have more experience working with groups than individuals, even as business coach and corporate trainer I have worked most of my life in an educational learning environment. The most important, however, is not about teaching, but about the student learning; it is hence imperative to start from the perspective of what the learner actually needs and working from there. I pride myself in being able to design courses and tuition tailor-made to the specific needs of the learners.

Tutoring Approach:

Unless I am teaching towards academic aims (e.g. GCSE support), I view language as something that is used to communicate with, it is something one does, we do not normally learn a foreign language just for the sake of passive knowledge. To me therefore it is far more important to use the language than just learn it. My approach to tutoring therefore is quite action oriented, we do things with the language, and just like children (who did not learn their native language from a book) language is always used in a context, so it's important to provide contextual clues when introducing new language.

I emphasize engagement and participation a lot, with a strong focus on real communication (rather than practiced communication where possible). Very early on I introduce meta-language, which is language about language (e.g. could you repeat that?, What do you mean by....?, Why do I say ... and not ...?), because this the only kind of real communication that happens in a language class, and thus it is a real opportunity to use real communication. But above all, language should be fun, learn by doing and lively, and my interactive approach always works towards that

Personal Description:
Hi, I'm Jonathan and I recently graduated from the University of Exeter studying Business and Management. I speak 4 languages, am passionate about maths and business, and have extensive experience in 1 on 1 tutoring!

Teaching Experience:

I have a lot of tutoring experience and currently have a number of clients whom I teach Maths (Primary - GCSE) or German (Secondary - A-Level). Furthermore, I help run weekly GCSE revision sessions at a local school.

I have also run sessions for adult learners wanting to improve their German skills. In these sessions - which were often over skype - I was able to knowledge of the German language and culture to prepare tutees for upcoming exams, job interviews, or travels.

My experience, my academic background, and my teaching style make me an ideal tutor for anyone who wants to excel!

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring focuses on two main areas. Firstly, I aim to build up confidence. From experience, many students have the capacity to excel, but low confidence in often over-crowded or intimidating classroom environment limits their learning potential. That is why my aim is to identify the tutee's strengths and prove to them that they already know a lot more than they think!
Secondly, I identify the key areas of improvement and help develop these in structured lessons. Giving tutees the possibility to ask questions in an informal environment and getting students to explain concepts back to the tutor are both great methods to develop the areas of improvement.

My tailored sessions help find your strengths, improve your weaknesses, and ultimately succeed!
