Personal Description:
I am a mathematician, with a special interest in applied mathematics and statistics. I worked for some years in University departments as a tutor and then lecturer. More recently I have worked for almost two decades in industry as a mathematician at a prestigious research centre in Cambridge. I am familiar with many aspects of secondary education through my daughter, who has recently completed her A levels at Hills Road 6th form college, and a son at secondary school. My daughter has just begun reading PPE at at Oriel College Oxford. I am currently working at the Dept. of Engineering, University of Cambridge.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught Mathematics and Physics, to undergraduates from a wide variety of disciplines. I have particular experience of teaching Mathematics to people whose primary interests lie in Business studies and in Engineering. I also gained valuable insight into adult education when I taught adult part-time students.
I have also provided tutorials for students with many different requirements including A level and undergraduate Physics & Mathematics courses and, for example, GMAT Mathematics prep for MBA entrance exams.
Recently I have had the opportunity to tutor intensively for STEP tests and this has become a personal interest -there is always a new challenge, and the examiners are skilled at finding new ways to test the same knowledge level.

Tutoring Approach:

The details of the correct approach vary from one tutee to another, but the principles remain the same. I seek to establish the student's ability within the context of a given aim and to then set realistic objectives.
I think that most students have more mathematical ability than they themselves believe; this can be brought out in a positive fashion once negative stereotypes are discarded. Also the application of mathematics to the real world can be exciting and profitable.

I am a French student. I graduated in Political Science in 2010 and I am currently a first year PhD student in cultural policies at the University of Glasgow. My thesis will deal with French cultural diplomacy since the end of World War II.
On a more personnal level, I am interested in art in general: I especially love Literature and cinema and I am a fanatic of musical theatre, even though I cannot sing a note!
My other hobbies are writing and traveling.

Teaching Experience:

I was a tutor in my hometown of Lyon (France) last school year and I taught a wide range of subjects such as French, English, History or Maths to students aged 11 to 15.

Tutoring Approach:

My previous experience of private tutoring made me develop my pedagogical skills, which I had never really had to use before. As I was new to tutoring I was a bit anxious at first but it turned out easier than I expected and my students didn't seem traumatized by me either. I am friendly but focused on work and methodology.

Since this is private tuition, I always try my best to adapt to my pupil's needs and personnality in order to offer him or her the best possible service. I constantly make the effort to acknowledge the fact that what seems obvious to me is not necesarily so for others and I always encourage my students to ask questions whenever they don't understand something. I'd rather explain one point several times than leaving it uncleared. As often as I can, I also tell students not to fear to make mistakes since it part of the learning process, and what makes teachers useful. In addition to academic knowledge as such, helping students to grow self confident in the subject(s) I teach is one of my priorities.

Besides, I pay much attention to communication with parents, since it seems important to me to hear what they have to say about their child and exactly what they expect form me.

I speak six languages and have been teaching people of all ages and levels now since 2000. My level of success can be equated to the continuous success of my students for sixteen years.

I teach Portuguese, Spanish, English for Foreigners, Italian and French as a fluent native speaker because I have lived in the countries where these languages are spoken.

My degree is in Modern Languages and Linguistics, which means I also edit and translate work into various languages. My MA is in Linguistics and I have worked for years now with well known multinationals and celebrities.

Teaching Experience:

1994 - Taught English for Foreigners and Spanish at the well known Brazilian University of Campinas. I did this whilst doing a year abroad in Brazil to master Portuguese. My students where all faculty deans of that university.
1995-1997 - Taught English, Spanish and Portuguese in Sao Paulo, Brazil at Apple Language School
1997-1998 - Taught at Berlitz in Panama, Republic of Panama also in Quito, Ecuador, and Manchester University.
1999-2003 - Self-employed Language Tutor - teaching individuals and well known organisations such as Delloitte, Mercedes Benz, Unibanco, Santander, Lloyds TSB, DLA Piper International, Volkswagen, PwC and many others.
2003-2004 - Post- Graduate Degree in Modern Languages - Education - Taught at several secondary schools.
2005 - To Date - Have taught several students as a private tutor to pass all exams from GCSEs to Graduate degrees and Doctorates. I have also taught several well known footballers and celebrities.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach as I would like to be taught - By someone experienced who knows what systems work in a secure and fun environment.
I mastered new languages many years ago, but in order to succeed I had to try several systems before perfecting what I now offer - I understand that everyone has different needs so I simply adapt to your needs and make sure that you enjoy what you learn... and learn a lot.

Tutoring Approach:

I prepare my own summarized notes and handouts which make students' life easy. At the same time I also use text books as well. As I am an accountancy tutor, I know the importance of practice. Therefore I do lots of practice questions and exam focused topics. I have study resources from where I choose material according to students' learning requirements. Main objective is to enable students to apply the theoretical concepts learnt from their academic studies to practical business environment. Normally I start from very basic easy examples and then gradually go towards complex exam questions, so that students get the confidence that they will pass the exams. I also provide online tuition, using shared documents and skype or phones. I send my own study material to students via e mail, communicate with them on skype or phone, they send me their questions or past papers, i solve them and send them scanned solutions, then explain on skype. I always teach my students in a very friendly environment. I tell my students take exams like a tournament and think they are the players, and I m their coach, together we have to make a strategy, a plan to win the game (exam :). Unfortunately I have developed arthritis in my knee which is why I am looking to continue my teaching in a non-school environment. Teaching Experience:

I was a Campus Coach during my academic years in New Zealand. I would help 1st and 2nd year university students from our science department with their studies. This include giving them motivation to learn, tips for note-taking, managing time meeting all kind of assignments, giving advice on who they should approach for more academic and social help.

Recently, I was a lab demonstrator and Chemistry tutor during my academic year at University of Glasgow. I assisted students in the safe execution of the experiment, safe and proper operation and handling of lab equipment, chemicals and glassware. I was actively engaged with the students in discussions about the experiment. I also collected and grade pre-lab assignments in a timely manner, enter grades in record book, and circulate to give individual feedback to students. In addition, I was responsible for reporting any problems/incidents/inconsistencies immediately to the instructor and replenish/prepare any chemicals or supplies if asked upon with help from the technicians. I had the first-hand experience as a marker of assignments and lab reports, so I will know what to expect from a good to excellent answers to given questions.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually.

I usually focus on exam-style or past paper questions in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique.

I am and have always been passionate about both learning and the arts. I believe they are very closely linked. I attended Norwich University of the Arts where I studied Textile Design. I now work as a college lecturer and illustrator in my own time. I am a reliable, fun and enthusiastic person.

Textiles Lecturer 2015-2016
I taught on a variety of general art and design courses offering the Textiles element to students as and when the curriculum required it.

Inspiring Creative Futures- Skills Tutor 2015-2016
Working with students to use their creative skills on charity projects, competitions and also offering one to one tutorials about their curriculum based work.

2016-Present

College of West Anglia Part-time Lecturer- Foundation department

Teaching within a department for students with a vast variety of special educational needs. My students have abilities ranging from severe to mild learning difficulties. I teach on a variety of courses such as Level 1 Art and Design and Becoming Independent. This can involve lessons in enterpise skills, financial literacy, independent living and literacy.

I also work part-time as a Learning Support Officer in the same department, supporting students with a range of learning issues including Autism, Dyslexia, Communication problems and Cerebral Palsy.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that everybody has the right to learn regardless of barriers that may be in their way. I see tutoring as something that is very much based around the learner, moulding the sessions into a process from which they recieve maximum opportunites for learning (based on their needs).

I think that instilling confidence in learners is the key to encouraging success.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently working in a SEN school, like teacher assistant. In Spain, I have worked more than 5 years in primary and secondary schools and more than 10 years in after school clubs and tuition 1 to 1.

Tutoring Approach:

I am looking some tuition for the Easter holidays, because I will not have any job that period of time. But in advance, I can teach after 4.00 pm and weekends.
