Personal Description:
Hi my name is Debra and I live in Shepperton I graduated with an MFA in Fine Art at Wimbledon College of Art and have a degree in painting and, diploma in art and design.

I specialise in portraiture and figurative art and, in particular iPad/iPhone and digital painting. I graduated in painting and have experience with oils, acrylics, watercolour alongside other mediums such as charcoals and pencil. Much of my work is done through direct observation and I stress to students, the importance of this. Observational work strengthens the eyes, memory and confidence in what we are looking at, enabling us to better record our observation. Therefore, plenty of practice here will ultimately reap rewards.
I am passionate about what I do and regard drawing and painting as a form of self expression.

Teaching Experience:

I have eighteen years experience within the Early Years sector.

Six months experience as a teaching assistant at a local secondary school in the Art Department.

Private tutoring

Tutoring Approach:

I am an extremely motivated and positive person and believe that anyone can be taught to draw. Healthy doses of discussions, listening and the exchanging of ideas is a key component in cultivating the creative mind, alongside plenty of encouragement and positivity. Constructive criticism is also very important and this part of exchange should be delivered with positivity to maximise a productive way forward for the tutee.

Personal Description:
I have a PhD and an MLitt from The University of Glasgow, and a BA (Hons) degree from University of Paisley.

Transcriber at University of the West of Scotland

Support Worker at University of the West of Scotland and Scottish Rural University College

Exam Scribe at University of Glasgow and Scottish Rural University College

Exam Invigilator at Scottish Rural University College

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should be fun and in a relaxed atmosphere but at the same time academic and useful. My approach to teaching is to have the tutor and student both feel that they are getting a lot out of the experience and that the time is being well used. I will break down subjects into easily manageable blocks and make sure that my student understands the unit before moving on. I also like to vary my tutorials by having some in the form of lectures, some in the form of question and answers, some where I will give students feedback on homework they have done and suggestions to improve what they have done, etc.

I also find that on-line tuition is the best method and students can ask questions that they may not ask if they were face-to-face with someone, it is a much more relaxed approach but students get a lot out of it (and can save all the notes from lessons for use later on).

Personal Description:
I love teaching, it has been my life's work. For me it's more than just a profession, it's a state of mind and soul, when you as a teacher and a person want to constantly grow and develop, open new doors and look into new cultures. It isn't just for self-development but for sharing with students and carrying them with you. I can help you to learn Russian with confidence, step by step, at your own pace. I'd like to share the knowledge of Russian with you and to open the door to this huge world of Russia.

Teaching Experience:

Certified language teacher with more than 25 years of teaching experience both in-person and online (have taught at schools, institutes and universities). I've worked as a senior teacher at Kazan State University, one of the oldest and biggest universities in Russia.

For a few years I've been teaching spoken and business Russian to executives at blue chip companies among which is Johnson & Johnson.

Tutoring Approach:

I have mastered a wide range of methods which affords me to be quite flexible in teaching and to make each lesson a tailored one where the main principal is to simplify things, not to complicate them. I will help you to learn, step by step, at your own pace.

My priorities are my students' confidence and convenience while studying, and their satisfaction with the final results. That's why I'm so very proud to say that my students have achieved many of their goals, whether it's just a simple trip to Russia or passing their exams, living in bilingual families, helping their companies to strengthen relations with Russia and even working and living in Russia.

I provide my students with all the necessary materials as well as offer free interactive games that they can play after lessons to increase their vocabulary.

Personal Description:
I believe that I posses valuable qualities such as creativity, enthusiasm, discipline and overall approachability that will enable me to become an effective tutor.

I am approachable and enjoy working one to one with pupils. Pupils find my open manner engaging; particularly when they are finding English difficult.

I have been lucky enough to travel all over the world and engage with people of varying ages and cultures. This has fuelled my passion to work with people.

Teaching Experience:

Since returning home from New Zealand I immediately signed up with Select Education and I was working in Secondary, Primary and SEN schools in South Yorkshire.Working part time allowed me to spend time tutoring students, I took students requiring additional help for Standards and Highers and helped them through their exams, with great success. I also took younger students requiring additional support.

I completed my PGDE in 2011 and I have been teaching ever since. I enjoy every aspect of my job and I teach all levels from BGE, N3, N4, N5 and Higher. I also mark for SQA at National 5 and Higher for both folio and exams too.

Tutoring Approach:

Throughout my teaching experience I have often worked in one and one situations, and have proven I can work well to encourage students and progress with their learning.

I have worked in many different schools and situations with children and students and I have the ability to adapt to the individual needs of a student to improve their knowledge in their chosen subject(s).

Personal Description:
I am a native of Italy who has lived in the UK for 22 years and has well adapted to the British system of education, still bringing in some of the flavour of her own mother country in connection with love and curiosity for languages, cultures, and contacts with people and their cultures through the activity of teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have been in the field of teaching languages (Italian being my special subject) for 21 years and have taught for all these years at all levels: children, GCSE, Highers level, University level, and adult classes both vocational and leasure/tourist.
My qualifications include a ESOL-Celta (Univ. of Cambridge) in teaching English as a Foreign Language to children and adults; a degree in English language and literature, as well as French language and literature; a PhD in Italian Studies. I have had mostly experience of teaching at University level in both language and culture (literature and cinema) in the last 10 years where my teaching ranges from beginners through to advanced level of Italian Language; and all levels of culture tutoring; translation studies.

Tutoring Approach:

Approach to tutoring varies from objective to objective.
Language in my opinion should be taught in a full immersion style, especially when it is targeting groups of people who are doing it for either vocational or personal reasons.
Tutoring of subjects such as languages with an objective such as GCSE or Highers or indeed University exams must take into account the syllabus that students must complete in order to reach their target: i.e. pass exams and, at the same time, learn in an effective though 'unforgettable' way. The majority of classes must be delivered in the target language, however in order to meet timing of syllabus coverage and exams some of the concept must be strengthened in the student's language.
In an ideal world, where no exams or timed targets exist, then tutoring of a language should happen 100% in the target language.

Personal Description:
I am originally from Ayrshire but have spent the last eight years south of the border studying and working. I have worked as an actor, singer and songwriter and continue to do so whilst teaching. I have now moved back to Ayrshire to live and work and continue to be creative.

Teaching Experience:

*Co-founder and Director of a theatre company
*Director of Fringe based theatrical work
*Drama workshop leader
*Drama teaching assistant with final year university students
*Trainee college lecturer

Tutoring Approach:

I am very passionate about what i do and have worked with many different people of a variety of ages and backgrounds. I have studied the works of many theatre practitioners whilst in and out of education, ranging from the naturalism of Stanislavski through to the forum theatre of Augusto Boal, to name but a few. However my goal when teaching is to have a "thinking performer" who knows themselves and the character and connects with what they're doing rather than merely "pretending". I'm an approachable person with a strong work ethic and strive to push someone to reach their potential.

Personal Description:
Hi

I have just finished a PhD in maths at Newcastle University so it goes without saying I'm enthusiastic about both maths and physics. On top of this I have a wide variety of interests, and this allows me to find ways of explaining things that the people I'm tutoring can relate to.

Teaching Experience:

While studying at Newcastle I've taken many tutorials for students taking courses in Maths. For the past 6 years I've also worked in a tutoring drop-in centre where any student at Newcastle University can come to ask maths questions. I've always enjoyed this work as over the course of a day I can be asked how to apply maths to many problems from mechanical engineering to fine arts!

I have also done a lot of private tuition of A-levels for all of the major examining boards. I have often got this work from referral of satisfied customers.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed and friendly tutoring style.

I usually find students learn best by working through questions or examples, but I am also happy provide teaching of entire subjects from scratch. So if you're having trouble understand the material needed to pass an exam/assignment or wanting to learn about a subject from start to finish I will be able to help.

Personal Description:
I did my undergraduate degree at St Andrews University and postgrad at Durham University; I've just returned from a year on research in the US. I love teaching and work for the Open University, which involves finding innovative ways to teach a large range of topics to students from 18 to 70 years old, which always makes for an interesting experience. I'm living in Newcastle and love the North East in general.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching at degree level since 2002, I have over 250 hours of face-to-face teaching experience.

I also have a Durham Teaching and Learning Award, a peer- and student- nominated annual prize given to 3-5 teachers in the university to recognise outstanding achievement.

I've taught in both the Philosophy and Theology & Religion departments of Durham University, as well as teaching Introductions to Arts & Humanities for the Open University. I frequently teach study skills and help address specific students' concerns about how to improve.

My experience also includes work in the Access/Widening Participation arena, and I have taught a variety of topics for the 14-18 age range, including work on the Sutton Trust Summer School programme.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is best summed up as "everyone is different". Finding out what someone enjoys, what they're good at, and how they think, is the first step in helping them get the most they can out of any topic or situation. The ways that people learn, and the things that fire their imaginations, are diverse - but the expectations of coursework and exams don't always recognise that. I see my job as not simply preparing people to pass a test or master a skill, but as helping them to discover what works best for them as a student, and giving them the confidence to approach new challenges successfully.

Personal Description:
I am a caring and enthusiastic Italian born teacher with many years experience in the private language sector. I have always been passionate about teaching, during my university years I started giving extra lessons to schools students and as soon as I graduated I completed a CILTA course to teach Italian to speakers of other languages.

Teaching Experience:

After I graduated in Spanish and English Literature and Linguistics in 2003 I began working at International House in Milan. I gained a wide range of teaching experience ranging from young learners to adults and from large groups of university students to one-to-one lessons with managing directors. When I moved to the UK, I started teaching in schools and companies in London. I have also gained the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training.
To keep my lessons fresh and my students interested I would always create my own teaching materials, that way I could always ensure that they were specifically tailored to the students' needs.

Tutoring Approach:

One of the skills I learned from many years' experience is to quickly understand students' needs and then construct my lessons around the individual. One-to-one teaching and tutoring focuses on the relationship between the teacher and the student, I am a friendly outgoing person and foster a very warm atmosphere in my classes which encourages relaxation and facilitates learning.
As a language teacher I always use the communicative method which is completely focused on the student and the idea that the most important aspect of learning a language is to speak that language right from the start.

Personal Description:
I am a freelance software developer and professional trainer who also provides one-to-one personal tuition services in computing, programming and IT related subjects. I took my first steps in programming as long ago as 1981, and have been a professional software developer since 1987. Along with the teaching and training side of my career, I develop software and web-sites for my clients, and I have been published several times in respected programming-journals.

I am also a BBC preferred-supplier, and am a Professional member of the Association for Computing Machinery (founded in 1947 - the world's largest and most prestigious scientific and educational computing society).

Teaching Experience:

I have provided private-tuition services since 1992, and was a lecturer at Roehampton University from September 1998 to October 1999. I have provided professional training services since 1999, during which time I have delivered over 100 professional courses in programming and software design and development, for companies in the aircraft industry, computer gaming, banking, web development and the BBC.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching and training pivots on the most important factor - passion for one's subject. I attempt to demonstrate to the student the power and beauty of what computing and programming involves, and place a firm emphasis on explaining concepts in the simplest and most day-to-day terms.

In the sphere of private tuition for children and young adults, I have found that working through past exam-papers with the pupil or student is an extremely effective way of helping the individual's understanding and exam performance to improve.

In the sphere of the professional training I provide, clients cite frequently my passion for the subject, the original and clear explanations that I use, and the depth of my technical understanding, as the factors of note in their view of my services.

Personal Description:
I am a returning ex-pat having lived and worked in Spain for 13 years. I learned Spanish naturally and have a similar approach to teaching. I use the similarities between the languages to lower barriers and make learning fun and easy. I teach natural Spanish not endless grammar or lists of nouns or verbs. I have been in a face to face environment all my working life and put people at their ease quickly. I have used the language in both a casual and business environment.

Teaching Experience:

As a private tutor I have been helping students for over 3 years now. I have developed a method of making the language accessible and easy to speak. There are no verb lists. Here's the challenge: I can teach present tense verb endings in 10 minutes, past tense in 5 minutes and future in one minute. How long have you been trying? Make learning fun!

Tutoring Approach:

I learned Spanish naturally and have a similar approach to teaching. I use the similarities between the languages to lower barriers and make learning fun and easy. I teach natural Spanish not endless grammar or lists of nouns or verbs. Students find my methods fun and relevant. I can offer support to academic learning within a curriculum or help people to get by on holiday. If required I can take a student through to fluency in a manner more suited to everyday use.

Personal Description:
After school and university (where I read English literature & philosophy) I worked for a television production company as a researcher, before applying to drama school.

Like many tutors, I am an actor and tutoring is one of the various jobs I do to supplement my acting career, and the one that I find most rewarding.

Teaching Experience:

As well as English, I also tutor elocution & accents, give guitar lessons, and I do one-to-one role-play tuition for medical students preparing for their clinical exams.

Besides individual lessons, I have run public speaking workshops and taught classes for Italian teenagers learning English.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to get straight to the specific needs of each pupil and adapt my lessons as closely as possible to that individual student. I also attempt to cut through the jargon of assessment objectives, technical terms and exam rubric and explain in plain language what is required and ensure that my pupils understand.

Studying English & philosophy taught me to think critically and express myself clearly, which is essential when assessing a pupil's ability and helping them to grasp ideas. I find that my training as an actor, with a concentration on listening and responding has allowed me to be very adaptable and aware of what a pupil needs.

Personal Description:
I consider myself to be articulate, eloquent and competent in the field of literacy. I have a great love of the written word and all forms of creative writing. I am a firm believer that the use of comprehensively impeccable speech and literacy can substantially improve ones progression in any field, be it professional or personal. Mastering the use of the English language and being able to articulate ones thoughts via speech or written correspondence is an invaluable life skill. I have always loved to read, write and study all aspects of literature and media. I have spent time as a critic, a reviewer and a freelance writer, as I revel in any opportunity to write.

Teaching Experience:

I have privately tutored individuals who wished to improve their ability to write. I assisted in all manner of writing; for example, I tutored university students in writing papers, assessments, personal statements, Curriculum Vitae and course work. I taught students at GCSE, A Level and Primary level how to study literature, history and media and produce competent work for educational and personal use.

Tutoring Approach:

I would be forever grateful for the opportunity to share my love of the English language and help those struggling in the field, or wish to enhance their ability.

Personal Description:
I'm currently a student studying Economics at the University of Birmingham, averaging a first level qualification. I am interested in sharing some of the things I have learnt over my years in education with others, which is why I'm keen to tutor. I have previously mentored students throughout secondary school and really enjoyed it. Apart from university my other interests include; playing sport with the University Korfball team, coaching the Economics netball team, wining and dining as I'm a huge fan of food and I also play in the University Symphony orchestra. This summer I was an intern for PwC in their audit team.

Teaching Experience:

I have previously mentored students through their GCSEs and Alevels at secondary school and really enjoyed it. I am the coach of a netball team so this also gives me skills which help to make me a better tutor such as patience, organisation and effective communication skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe tutoring is the responsibility of both the tutor and the tutee. I would like to plan sessions which are stimulating, engaging and involve ideas bouncing between the two of us, whether that is through debate, discussions or question and answer sessions. I am also open minded so would be prepared to experiment a lot with teaching style. I would be happy to take suggestions about how you'd like me to tutor you so we can establish an approach that works for both parties.

Personal Description:
Hello, I am a 23 year old French and German graduate who is very passionate about languages and also studied English Language up to A Level. I've obtained an Upper Second Class Honours (2:1) from the University of Hull and am currently living and working in Bedfordshire. I am happy to travel to my students for tuition so my students can learn in the comfort of their own home, or if preferred they are more than welcome to come to my family home in Sharnbrook for tuition. I have spent time living in both France and Germany last year and would be happy to help out with any language struggles, as I understand first hand how daunting learning and speaking a language can be and I aim to help my students feel as comfortable as possible while providing excellent tuition.

Teaching Experience:

I have work experience as an assistant to the teacher at John Gibbard Lower School in Sharnbrook, along with studying the spoken language of children in pre-school and nursery as part of my A Level English Language course.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to get my students talking while making them feel at ease and as comfortable as possible. Languages can be very daunting as I know from personal experience, and I want to instill some confidence in my students along with aiding in grammatical errors and helping to build vocabulary for my students. I have a large range of resources, such as textbooks with grammar exercises up to A Level qualification and beyond, and will be very happy to help out in any areas where students are struggling.

I feel that I have a good approach with school students due to my age; I have only finished University this year, and I helped my younger sister and siblings of friends throughout my school life with their language struggles. I am a friendly and approachable person who wants to make lessons fun and educational rather than a chore, and I feel like this will massively help students retain information easier and motivate them further in their studies.

I am not perfect and am not aiming for perfection in my students; I am patient, enthusiastic and engaging and am willing to adapt my teaching skills from student to student. I am very aware of how to adapt from student to student; some students prefer working from a textbook with worksheets, and some prefer a more vocal and practical approach to language learning. Languages are not easy, and going from someone who struggled with confidence in my language skills throughout GCSE's to someone who delivered countless presentations throughout University in foreign languages and obtained an Upper Second Class degree, I feel as though I understand and can approach any issue with language learning that a student may have.
