Personal Description:
I am currently undertaking in my spare time a part time four years masters as I want to continue studying. I moved to London once I finished my degree and am enjoying the atmosphere.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently in my fourth year of teaching primary children after completing a four year teacher training course at The University of Warwick. I have been teaching in year 5 for the past two years. Although i have only taught in year 5 since I have qualified, during my training I taught in every year group from Year 1 to Year 6. I have been tutoring an A level student in Sociology for the past two years also.

Tutoring Approach:

I would firstly find out what level each of my students were at so that then I could decide on where to pitch the lessons. I would approach each student differently in the way that I taught them in order to get the best out of my students as all people learn differently and at different rates.

Personal Description:
I am a young (27) and enthusiastic fully qualified Teacher of Physics, located in West London. I have a flare and passion for science and am fully CRB (security) cleared for my current full-time teaching post.

Coming from Ireland originally, I spent the last 8 years studying and working in the North East of England, before moving to London to take up a Head of Physics position.

Teaching Experience:

Having achieved a First Class Honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Northumbria University, I undertook a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) course at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Since September 2006 I have been teaching combined Science to Key Stage 3 and Physics to GCSE and A-Level at a high performing specialist secondary school in Darlington, recently designated "Outstanding" in a recent (March '08) OFSTED inspection. My 2009 Physics results have been excellent, with a 100% pass rate at A-Level and 96% of students achieving A* - C at GCSE Physics. Since then I have moved to Ruislip, West London, to take up a Head of Physics position.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel an open approach to teaching and tutoring alike is most likely to make the subject accessible to students. My personal technique involves covering the scientific basics before moving on to further develop knowledge and understanding. In this way, students are eased gently into a routine of learning which will hopefully guide them to success in their upcoming assessments.

Personal Description:
Aged 23, I am currently studying Medicine at Imperial College on the graduate entry course. In 2009, I graduated from Cardiff University with a 1st Class Bsc (Hons) in Biochemistry, gaining a prize for the best final year biochemistry project.

Outside the world of academia, I like to think of myself as a jolly chap and enjoy hobbies such as squash, photography and running.

Teaching Experience:

Having a 13 year old sister, I have spent a number of years tutoring her as she progresses through school. As both of us have mild dyslexia, I have developed and applied techniques both for my own and my sister's benefit, to make learning as effective as possible.

Tutoring Approach:

Having been tutored myself throughout in the years in a number of different styles, I approach tutoring with an open mind and would try to match the most appropriate learning techniques to the individual tutee.

Methods that I have found particularly effective include mind-mapping and rather fun A0 paper summaries using chunky pens and any analogies/mnemonics/queues that may come to mind! Most of all, I would encourage the tutee to be proactive in developing his/her own styles of revision, aiming to help them achieve their potential throughout their academic career.

Along side the sciences, I am also happy to offer advice on interview skills, based on my successful experiences in applying for biochemistry, medicine and an industrial placement at a leading Pharmaceutical company.

Personal Description:
I am a young tutor who is very eager to help others get to grips with the principles of English/Latin/Ancient Greek grammar and syntax. I also teach philosophy (which I studied at Oxford) and have published material in this area.

I am a friendly person, and as a recent Oxford graduate I am familiar with serious academic work and discipline. I believe that I am very good at making complex subject matter comprehensible to other people. I am also passionate about the subjects I have studied and believe I can inspire this passion in others.

Teaching Experience:

I have a CELTA qualification in teaching English as a foreign language. I have taught to non-native speakers from many different backgrounds. I love being able to help others improve their grasp of English.

I have also tutored in Ancient Greek (one-to-one) for Westminster Tutors.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is serious but patient; I understand the difficulty of the subjects I propose to teach. I also take seriously my responsibility to instruct and enlighten. But I believe in adapting to the needs of each student and that means developing personal relationships as well as academic ones. I find that learning takes place most effectively when teacher and student get on well together. And so I try to get to know the people I teach.

Personal Description:
I am currently studying Graduate Medicine at Imperial College London having previously graduated from Cardiff University with First Class BSc (Hons).

My undergraduate degree is in Biomedical Science and Anatomy covering a wide range of sciences including physiology, genetics, cell biology, and specifically anatomical science. In addition to graduating with a BSc, I was awarded a prize for the best final year project in my subject.

At University I am also the Chair of our class society committee representing my fellow students on education, welfare and social levels.

Outside of studying, I like to explore what London has to offer... and sweat out the stress doing Bikram Yoga!

Teaching Experience:

I began to tutor whilst in secondary education, teaching basic reading and writing skills to those students with learning and behavioural difficulties. One student with ADHD presented a challenge - but I learned how to address student distraction and concentration by creating an interesting and enjoyable working environment.

Throughout higher education I have supported students with various topics of science and biomedicine where assistance was most required.

Having had lots of experience with applying to university and biomedical / medical degree courses and being on interview panels for medical school, I have become involved in assisting students in their university applications. Medical school is particularly competitive and I am able to offer help with finding the right work experience, writing personal statements and in practicing interview techniques.

Being an active member of medical school, I have been involved in training basic life support skills and clinical skills to undergrad medical students. I am currently in the clinical part of my course and am therefore in the position to offer assistance with pre-clinical medicine particularly in the areas of Anatomy and Physiology.

Tutoring Approach:

Students need to take a positive approach to their study and accept responsibility for it. From the beginning, I encourage my students to direct their own learning and to develop their own study techniques. It is important to identify this from an early stage in order to deliver the information in a suitable way. I encourage the use of visual revision - mindmaps and diagrams help to instil information.

Whilst it is important for students to develop 'out of the box' thinking, I believe it is important to remain focused on exam preparation through use of mock and past exam papers, synchronising exam technique with tuition. It is important for students to develop confidence in their subject from day one so that they not only learn the facts but are able to discuss and argue topics of interest. Through exploring the student's own subject interests I hope to help them develop that confidence.

Personal Description:
I am a Cambridge graduate, with an MA in Literature, and a fully qualified teacher with a PGCE in English and Drama from York University. I have taught for several years in both the state and independent sector. I also work as an examiner for GCSE English, A Level English Literature and A Level English Language, for NICCEA, AQA and WJEC examination boards. This work gives me extremely valuable insight into what is required to achieve excellent grades at GCSE and A Level. I offer rigorous exam preparation, tailoring each session to the needs and learning style of the individual student. I provide detailed revision materials and advice on exam technique.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for several years in a leading grammar school. Prior to this, I taught in two comprehensive schools in England. My career has given me experience in working with students of varying academic abilities, and I am well placed to both stretch the able, and provide support for those who need it. I have an excellent track record of results at both GCSE and A Level.
Through my work as an examiner for several exam boards, I am fully conversant with a variety of GCSE and A Level syllabi. I am able to adapt my approach with each student, to pinpoint exactly what they need to focus on to achieve the grade they deserve.

Tutoring Approach:

I start a tutoring programme by having a meeting with the student (free of charge), to review examples of his/her work, so that we can jointly discuss what is required. I take account of each student's individual learning style so that each session is appropriately focused, with clear aims and objectives, and material is presented in an easily accessible way. My approach to each session is to derive maximum benefit for the student and as I believe that the most effective learning occurs in a relaxed atmosphere, I aim to develop a friendly rapport with my clients, and engage their interest through a variety of appropriate activities. I also take regular feedback from students and their parents, to assess how the tuition programme could be improved.

Basically, I start a lesson with a goal (agreed with the student), and terminate it with the student re-telling the point with his own words ( Each lesson is a part of a more global target for a complete session) Last, but not least, I do best to make each lesson a dynamic exchange in a friendly atmosphere.

Personal Description:
I am 59 years old, a happy retiree from the academic rat-race, but one who is pleased to have had a moderately successful career as a biologist. In the later years of my academic life, I tired of the rampant bureaucracy, corporatism and political correctness of educational establishments, and I now enjoy putting these distractions aside and helping my tutees to enjoy the fascinations of biology.

Teaching Experience:

I have 30 years' experience as a University teacher and researcher, specialising in Environmental Biology, Ecology and Toxicology, but with a broad general experience of many other areas of Biology including general and systematic zoology, comparative animal physiology, cell biology and biostatistics. I left my last position as Reader in Applied Hydrobiology when my Department was closed, and since that time I have held a number of temporary positions in local colleges, teaching A-level Biology. This has familiarised me with the A-level syllabus and broadened my experience of working with a younger age group.

Tutoring Approach:

My experience has led me to believe that most Biology syllabuses are bizarre, and can appear pointless and intellectually unsatisfying to many students, making the subject appear boring and lacking in coherence. I try to start from the student's own areas of greatest interest, or his/her perceived difficulties, and to develop them into a broad understanding of the unifying principles of Biology - believe it or not, these principles do exist, in spite of the fact that most syllabuses manage to conceal them.

Personal Description:
I am a 23 year journalist with a first degree in English Literature offering tutoring services.

English Literature has always been one of my passions. At GCSE I achieved A*, followed by a grade A at A Level and a 2.1 in English and Related Literature at York University.

I am a friendly, easy going yet organised and clear thinking individual who enjoys interacting with young people and helping them develop to their full potential.

Teaching Experience:

Over the past year I have been involved in several volunteering projects in local schools in Rotherham, using my English Literature and Journalism skills to help deprived children.

This has involved helping children write creative pieces, source stories for school magazines and learn how to use new technology recently introduced into the school.

I have a passion for education and enjoy interacting with pupils. My communication skills are highly developed and I have an easy going yet focussed teaching style.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is always to find a way that pupils can relate to the text.

With this technique, it is key to identify which examining board the candidate is using and structure all teaching around the specific assessment objectives of their mark scheme.

Structured tutorials are planned each week, whereby specific topics and themes are targeted.

Revision techniques, such as mind maps, practice essays and exam skills are all part of the programme.

If candidates feel they have any specific weaknesses, such as essay structuring or grammatical flaws, these can all be targeted to suit the pupil.

Personal Description:
I am currently undertaking a career change and studying to be a Secondary Science teacher. I have a PhD in Molecular biology and my BSc degree is in Molecular Biology and Genetics. I have a huge enthusiasm for science and am enjoy inspiring others to feel the same way!

Summer revision and catch-up sessions, to consolidate learning and understanding and boost confidence with individually tailored sessions

Teaching Experience:

As a fully registered SEA (Science and Engineering Ambassador) and as part of my previous role in science outreach I visited many schools and translated complex scientific ideas and theories into interesting and engaging sessions for a wide range of ages. I also worked closely with primary and secondary school teachers to design target resources to the age group and ability of the children.

I was as an active member of the teacher scientist network (TSN) from 2006 to Oct 2008. I have experience of translating complicated scientific concepts and research into a format accessible to pupils aged 10/11. In addition, I have worked closely with teachers to design experiments that are fun and enable the scientific curriculum to be approached in a new, exciting and engaging way.
I enjoy working with children both in a caring and a leadership role.

At American summer camp 2004 I planned, prepared, and delivered a programme of structured activities for children between the ages of six and sixteen and worked in a team with other counsellors to manage and organise activities and duties. Camp Counsellors USA (CCUSA).

Tutoring Approach:

I take a friendly approach to tutoring and find that a sense of humour helps the learning process along.
