Personal Description:
I have a passion for the English language and its literature which is reflected in my work. I really enjoy tutoring, because I know the one-to-one learning situation gives students the attention and focus which they need to improve, and which they cannot get in school. I am a parent, a published poet and occasional actor. I only work in West Yorkshire, up to 12 miles' drive from my home, but I will offer discounts to students willing to travel to me..

Teaching Experience:

I have 30 years' experience of teaching English to kids of varying backgrounds and abilities (11 to 18 up to A level) so I have built up an extensive bank of resources over the years, which I use to carefully prepare for lessons. I am also an experienced examiner for AQA, which offers valuable insights into exactly how to achieve high GCSE grades . I have been tutoring successfully for five years now, and my knowledge and expertise would be very useful to students aiming at high marks in GCSE and A level exams. Recently, I have helped a pupil win a scholarship to high-achieving independent QEGS in Wakefield, and others to gain entrance to grammar schools

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient, friendly and easy to get on with. I have always tried to make my lessons interesting, relevant and inter-active. I tailor my teaching to the pupil and know that praise and encouragement are the keys to confidence and progress. A good sense of humour is vital, too.
I have helped to improve the grades of many pupils, some of whom have achieved the highest grade at GCSE, and have coached younger ones through entrance exams to sought-after schools. One student, whom I tutored for three years, progressed from a poor level 4 in year 8 to GCSE grade B, the minimum requirement for A levels in many good schools, while others have achieved the A* grades required for their chosen paths.
I have achieved high ratings from the parents of students I have tutored. A good tutor can make a difference with focused one-to-one attention, and I am a good, committed tutor.

Personal Description:
Qualified and experienced EFL specialist. I've been teaching English as a Foreign or Additional Language for 7 years to a wide age range and for a variety of specialist purposes.

I've been teaching in China for the last 3 years and will move back to the UK in July. I'm looking to start tutoring again from August so please get in touch if your looking for a tutor to start around then.

I'm a calm, organised and friendly person. I enjoy teaching and I want my students to enjoy learning English and to see the progress they are making.

I'm very interested in using technology in learning and for students who like learning with screens I will integrate other websites and apps into their homework and preparation.

I learned French in school and I'm continuing learning Chinese. I remember my language learning experience in school and in China, I know what a struggle it is to understand new grammar rules and how difficult it can be some weeks to make time to practice. I try to create an enjoyable and supportive environment in lessons so it is not stressful to make mistakes and students don't leave feeling tired out by learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught :
English in south China for 3 years (2013-2016)
English as a Foreign/Additional Language for 7 years (2009 - present)
students preparing for IELTS and PTE
students writing dissertations and theses
beginner English speakers and native speakers
students from 7 years old up to retired grandparents
English for Business, Medicine and Engineering
preparation for driving theory and food safety tests

Tutoring Approach:

I like to incorporate games, puzzles and challenges along with the content to help you engage with and better understand how to use the language. I'm very adaptable and will plan lessons based on what you want to achieve and how you like to learn.

For students getting ready for a test I can prepare a course of lessons with exam specific practice and a focus on the areas that most concern you.

For primary age students I have a variety of fun and engaging activities that get them excited about joining in lessons and learning English.

For university students I can give tailored lessons to help with essay, paragraph and sentence structure. I can also review grammar applied to the context of your subject to help you in your academic writing.

Personal Description:
I have been a personal tutor for over six years, building up a rapport with each individual and their family to ensure best results. My tutoring experience spans from children aged 4 years to adults aged 44 years, with varying degrees of motivation, interest and abilities. I have tutored 16 pupils to date, with differing levels of intensity; some required 2 hours a week for the 10 weeks prior to their exam, while others required an hour a week over 3 years to boost their knowledge and confidence.

Due to my high interest in supporting others, I chose a career path as a Speech and Language Therapist, and I qualified in this esteemed profession 5 years ago. On a daily basis I work with children from pre-school age right up to young adults, in a range of settings from special needs schools and mainstream schools, to community clinics and home visits. I am highly passionate about helping all I support to work together to reach their potential.

I am a genuinely caring and generous person and I am more than capable of sharing my passion for learning to anyone I work with, including those with additional needs.

Teaching Experience:

Through my job as a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist I work with children of all cognitive abilities on a one-to-one level to improve their communication and language skills. The work I do coincides with the National Curriculum and the Early Years Foundation Stage, and I work with parents and teachers to set individualised targets, which is similar to the tutoring world.

Prior to commencing this career path, I worked as a special needs assistant at a primary school. On a daily basis I was required to give additional support on a one-to-one basis to children who struggled in the (often) large classroom, by working through the literacy or numeracy curriculum at their own pace. I was also relied upon to support in assigned classrooms through supervising children while working on a task, or taking groups of children for reading. Working in a school ensured that I keep current my knowledge of Educational and National Curriculum issues.

From June-August 2011, I travelled to Pennsylvania, USA, to work as a Speech and Language Therapist at a summer camp for children with special needs (age range 7-20). I was recommended for this job due to my extensive experience and my friendly positive nature. The experience of living and working with children and teens with individual needs and accompanying challenging behaviours highlighted the importance of taking a flexible holistic approach when assessing skills, implementing support and evaluating improvements.

In June 2009, I participated in the Student Associate Scheme organised by the University of Manchester. This involved intensive teacher training and then carrying out a block placement of three weeks within two schools teaching and assisting in core subjects e.g. Mathematics and English. I worked with two children in particular who struggled in these subjects and I helped improve their numeracy and literacy skills by adapting their learning technique to suit their individual needs.

Tutoring Approach:

For over six years I have tutored various subjects in three areas of the UK, including two major cities. I have assisted students of varying ages, abilities and additional needs including Dyslexia, Autism and Specific Language Impairment - from early years pupils to mature students. I find that tutees benefit from the one-to-one focus they are given, and the individualised plans we work from enforces enhancement of their current knowledge in their chosen subject areas.

I always ensure a person-centred approach is achieved when tutoring. Each tutee learns through different techniques and at different speeds so I develop my tutoring level and scope to suit the individuals needs. I tutored three children for 2013's 'Transfer Test' (Northern Ireland's Grammar School intake assessment) and the results confirmed that this approach is effective, as all sitting the demanding test passed with flying colours, with two getting into Northern Ireland's top Grammar School.

Personal Description:
Confidence is often the stumbling block for learners, and I always encourage all of my students to feel an early sense of achievement. Enabling students to see real progress quickly is essential to the building of self-esteem. I am very approachable and my style of teaching is relaxed and friendly. I love my job and hope that my own enthusiasm inspires my students to excel. Recently I have added French to my repertoire, for absolute beginners. I am sure French will be as popular and exciting as English and Maths have been.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a teacher since 1976. I have taught all age groups, from nursery to A Level. Teaching is a wonderful and totally satisfying vocation. I moved across to tutoring as I felt I could offer all of my experience in this role. Being a teacher is definitely something I was born to do, and I love it.

Tutoring Approach:

Students can learn by either visiting my home or at a distance using Skype. Every student is assessed as an individual and the content of their course tailored to their needs. I test my students periodically to ensure progress is going smoothly; also testing is a good way for students to observe their own progress. We use a variety of materials: books for writing and reading in English, and for revision in Maths; the computer for visual skills and games, listening and speaking is a major part of the programme for EFL students. Children learn in different ways, and I like to offer my students visual, auditory and kinetic tools, we can see which is most comfortable for the individual. The speed of learning is not as important as the confidence of the individual and their inspiration and motivation to progress.

Personal Description:
I have completed a Masters degree in Creative Writing. I completed my undergraduate studying BA Creative Writing and English Literature with 2:1. I'm aware that English and History are complex and intriguing subjects but I firmly believe that a thorough understanding and practise of techniques will enable to provide you with a firm base for any student to succeed. I am keen, conscientious, hardworking and reliable person.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately for over five years and currently have fifty seven students.
I have worked in a high school as a English Graduate Assistant and have had exposure to lesson and administration relating to the curriculum.
I have completed a Literacy Leadership Award and I was assessed on my ability to plan and prepare a literacy activity. I had to show communication and motivational skills through delivering literacy across the curriculum. Having observed teachers, I was able to learn interesting techniques that are used to teach Key stage 3 and 4 students. From this experience, I was taught how to plan and structure a lesson i.e. the starter, an introduction, an interactive main activity and the plenary; how to use verbal and non-verbal communication successfully .These rewarding experiences encouraged me to become an English teacher in the future. I have also worked closely with my peers on A Level courses such as English and History by delivering revision sessions and presenting my ideas on literary texts, articles and academic research.
.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tuition includes a variety of techniques and strategies in order to guide and motivate the learner. I will set personalised targets with my students and their parents in order to achieve the desired results. I also intend to provide you with a personalized programme that is best suited to your individual needs. I'm very enthusiastic and try to make learning a fun experience, using different ways of learning. Also, price can be negotiated.
"She's a good listener. She tries to make people understand something in a way that makes you feel comfortable. She involved everyone in the discussion even the quiet ones and always tries to find new ways of explaining things. Revision sessions were really useful and I think the main reason was because she just loves helping other people whether it is people younger or the same age. Everyone went home feeling slightly more confident about the exam including me. She makes sure that everybody understands even if it has to be explained more than once." (Aarti, 18, student)
"Charnjit has a way of making the impossible- possible. She is patient with her students and will try her hardest to make people understand. She has a way of teaching which involves a lot of group work and a one-one session where she will answer any questions from the stupidest to the smartest. After having few sessions with her I went into my exam confidently. Most importantly, she never gives up on anyone." (Rahwa, student)
"Charnjit's teaching style is unique and possesses many qualities. She is patient and constantly checks for understanding in order to go over things if the topic is not understood straight away. She uses a variety of techniques such as group brain storming in order to get the class involved which is very effective. During our group revision sessions she used this technique which worked well as it got everybody thinking, talking and interacting which was useful when remembering theorists and certain dates. She also categorised the theorists into groups based on their research which was also helpful for revision as it broke down the amount of theorists into smaller groups which were easier to remember. In addition, Charnjit is very good at keeping the class' attention which is very important as a teacher." (Stefanie, student)

Personal Description:
I enjoy maths and helping other people to enjoy it too. I have always kept up my interest in maths by studying with the Open University and I particularly enjoy finding ways to use games and puzzles to create interest and understanding. I worked in business computing and always enjoyed the training side of the job. At the moment I am working as a private tutor, helping my husband to renovate and restore a seventeenth century house and training an unruly young sprollie dog.

Teaching Experience:

I have a PGCE in secondary maths teaching and taught in a secondary school for one year. During my career in IT as an analyst/programmer I trained staff in programming techniques, and also trained users as part of the implementation of the many systems I was involved in. My enjoyment of maths and teaching led me to refresh and extend my skills by studying for a PGCE in post compulsory education. During the course of this I gained experience of whole class teaching, one to one and small group tutoring at GCSE and A-level.

I have now been working as a private tutor with individual pupils for a year and am learning all the time! I have experience of students taking GCSE maths for the first time and with those doing resits. I can offer tuition up to AS level (C1, C2, S1). I have experience of working with students with dyslexia. I am also an Adult Education Tutor and work with people returning to maths later in life.

Tutoring Approach:

I love helping other people to understand and enjoy maths, and I know that the classroom is not always the best place to do this - many people need the individual attention that one to one or small group tutoring gives in order to bring up their basic skills, learn to build on them and so gain confidence and enjoyment. Maths is too often the subject that people learn to hate and fear - a little one to one help can turn all that around. I aim to give my students a good understanding of the subject rather than learning one-off tricks and rules.

The following is an unsolicited testimonial from one of my tutee's parents:

"Deborah is a very professional tutor and always tries to make our son's weekly maths tutorial as beneficial, creative and enjoyable as possible. She is very dedicated and prepared to listen and help and follows up her tutorials with useful homework for our son to work on during the week. You can see how much personal satisfaction she gets from helping our son, which is great.

I would not hesitate to fully recommend Deborah and her approach to tutoring maths. She clearly cares about her work and helping children to get to grips with maths."

Personal Description:
I am a PhD student, undertaking my doctorate in Environmental Sciences, with a focus on soil nutrient cycling and nutrient transport to surface and ground waters. I completed my BSc in Physical Geography at the University of Exeter and gained first class honours in this.

Teaching Experience:

I carried out teacher training at a basic level with the University of Exeter in order to participate in the Students Associates Scheme. After this training I spent three weeks in a local secondary school where I actively participated in Geography and Religious Studies lessons, and was able to provide work plans for higher and lower achieving students. I also worked closely with students that had special educational needs.
I also have experience in teaching sports to groups of young children.

Tutoring Approach:

During my time at the secondary school I found that I produced good results working one-to-one with students, particularly with students that were struggling to understand concepts or were having difficulty with the teaching style being used in the classroom. I am patient, focussed and willing to work hard to enable a tutee to achieve their goals.

Personal Description:
I did nothing but one-to-one private biology tuition, based in Oxford, for 24 years and was widely regarded as 'Oxford's Premier Biology Tutor'. I have now moved away from Oxford and have been offering my services online only, nationally and worldwide, for the past three years via the medium of Skype and 'Scribblar' - an interactive online whiteboard that is better than face-to-face tuition as there is zero travelling and waiting time and cost and it is more intimate and concentrated than 'in-person' tuition. I charge 60 per hour normally but offer a 10 per hour discount for tuition before 3 pm on weekdays.

Teaching Experience:

27 years (the last three totally online) of one-to-one tuition in A-level, IB and GCSE biology.

Tutoring Approach:

Stick to the specification. Do ALL the past paper questions and go through them with the mark schemes. Take the exam. and get on with your life.

I like to work in a very methodical and structured fashion and not confuse effective work with hard work. The students who say at the end "yes, I learned biology - but, better still I learned how to study" are the ones with whom I know I have really succeeded.

Apart from an internet connection all that you need for tutorials is a thin A4 ring binder with a copy of the specification punched and put into the front and some colored dividers in the back. If you are a retake student I ask you to highlight the specification (in yellow with solid highlighter if you are quite happy with the content; dotted highlighter if you are a bit unhappy with it and no highlighter if you have not done it or have forgotten it). This will tell me where to start and I can estimate to within an hour or so how many lessons will be needed to 'reteach' the syllabus. Effectively I write a textbook for you and give you notes (to be filed in the colored dividers) via e-mail and Scribblar (my interactive online whiteboard) to fill in any gaps in your knowledge. As I cover the specification I highlight my copy in pink so that I can monitor progress. I have CDs of questions that I can post to you that you can work through - each CD is specific to one exam. board and contains not only the most recent AS/A2 papers and mark schemes but also the preceding many years of papers for that board, chopped up into topic headings. So, for example, it will take an hour to 'cover' The Heart and then I'll give you the questions specifically on the heart on that board to do before the next tutorial. It is all very straightforward and actually rather less hard work than doing it in a slapdash, non-systematic fashion. The study skills that you will learn will stand you in good stead throughout life.

I can also advise on coursework/practicals.

Please note that I ONLY tutor online nowadays.

Personal Description:
I am currently a Civil Engineer working for Atkins Global, having graduated from Imperial College London. Having studied through all levels of school I can appreciate how useful having a source of targeted teaching is, this is the service I hope to provide. Having participated in youth organisations and group bursary projects I have had the opportunity to work with people from many different backgrounds and cultures, this allows me to tailor to individuals. I am a STEMNET ambassador for which I volunteer in various schools and teach pupils how to apply classroom knowledge to real world scenarios. I play hockey in my spare time as well as recreationally painting to focus my time on activities outside of work.

Teaching Experience:

I am a STEMNET ambassador. For this role I work with young students in interactive workshops to engage them in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
I was enrolled in a mentoring scheme in university, for which I was assigned multiple students. I provided guidance with work and general university issues.
During my time at secondary school and sixth form, I worked in sessions with younger students during which time we would cover material which they were struggling with.
Participated in a youth organisation, BSS Shaka, for which in my role as a senior member would organise and run weekly workshops which focused upon cultural learning as well as sporting activities.

Tutoring Approach:

Methods for teaching are subject to the individual therefore I strive to find a method which worst best for both parties. Aside from teaching the core syllabus I also would like to know what you struggle with such that more emphasis can be put upon that. I prefer to set up a dialog with my students such that the teaching is more interactive. I will prepare a lesson plan, and set students questions to work on between sessions; anything which they are unsure of can be covered in the next session.

Personal Description:
Hi! I'm in my final year of a French and Italian degree at UKC, where I'm reading lots of novels and writing essays on them! Last year I studied at universities in Geneva, Switzerland, and Bologna, Italy, where I also travelled. When I'm not in the library or a seminar, I love to cook, read, and write, I have my own blog. I can tutor in French, Italian, and English, up to A Level. I'm also willing to travel around North Kent, about 45 minutes outside of Canterbury, and tutor over email and webcam. We can cover anything on your course, from basic grammar and vocabulary to A Level cultural topics and speaking exams. Get in touch and we can see what would work best for you.

Teaching Experience:

At sixth form I helped several friends with their GCSE Italian work (they all achieved at least an A grade) and helped my younger sister with both her GCSE French work and her GCSE History coursework, for which she achieved and A* grade. When I was studying in Italy I also took a course on teaching languages to Primary School Children.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is simple: start with the very basics and build on these once they are secure. I will help with homework and coursework as well as practice for exams. I am also happy to provide materials such as grammar exercises and mark these.

Personal Description:
I am a confident, diligent and sociable person, with a wide knowledge of world history, and specialising in American and South-East Asian history and culture. I hold a double first class Bachelors degree in History and American Studies from Canterbury Christ Church University, and have had many years experience leading youth projects such as youth councils, young persons' scrutiny forums (YPSF) and have acted as a liasion on several historical and cultural preservation projects such as the Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) and the Church House Preservation Committee.

Teaching Experience:

I have previous experience as a teaching assistant to KS3 and KS4 level history at a state secondary school.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a holistic approach to the teaching of history, ensuring that the student becomes engaged within a fuller understanding of the period being studied. As a former student and teach of history, I realise that the principal block to a tutee's understanding of historical concepts is a lack of immersion within the relevant time-frames and thus an inability to fully comprehend why certain actions were taken, and the wider effect this had.

Thus in my approach I am firm believer that it is as important for every student to understand to a higher level than that offered by the current state curriculum the context of the period they are studying. As a consequence I offer tailored introductions to said period's culture, economy, religious and political setting, and even physical geography.

Furthermore, I offer the necessary skills to craft this knowledge into well-reasoned, informed essays. My intimate knowledge of the state education system and beyond has imbued me with the ability to gauge how assignments will be assessed and thus I can work with students not only on improving their knowledge, but showcasing this in highly-marked, structured and coherent written forms.

I use a number of methods to achieve this, including homework assignments, but also using character adoption, audio-visual aids and a mixture of written and verbal questions of varying length and form.

Personal Description:
I am a Spanish enthusiast. I lived and worked in Madrid, Spain and am able to enthuse and inform my pupils with regards to living in Spain, the Spanish people, what it's like to work in Spain and hope that my pupils go away from my lessons with a sense of the character of Spain.

I am Married, a Mother with 2 children (15 and 18), and have my own recruitment business. I also tutor because I enjoy passing on my knowledge and experience and gain satisfaction from seeing pupils progress.

Teaching Experience:

I am not a 'qualified' teacher but one through experience. I have qualifications as a Secretarial Linguist. I am a fluent Spanish speaker and my lessons have quite a strong discussion element to them. I have taught adults and GCSE students over the past 20 years, and my successes have been many, but particularly bringing GCSE students successfully through their revision stage and adults gaining more confidence in their spoken Spanish.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is a combination of fun and work. I expect commitment from my students, but also I like to pass on my enthusiasm for Spain and hope that my lessons are enjoyable, not just a hard slog! We speak in Spanish for the majority of the lesson, and I encourage students to 'immerse' themselves into Spain i.e. we have access these days to Spanish radio, Spanish TV. There is absolutely no reason not to use these to the full. I encourage socialising between students where possible also, i.e. Tapas visit/evening or introducing my Spanish friends to them so that they can practise their language skills.

Personal Description:
My name is Andrea, I'm Italian and I'm 30 years old. I have got a degree in Italian Language, Italian Literature and Modern Philology at Padua University with the maximum valuation, 110 cum laude.
Recently I got a certification which legally qualifies me to teach Italian language, abroad, to foreign students. It is named CEDILS, and I got it at Ca' Foscari University in Venice.
I have learnt to use new linguistic teaching methodology with a focus on the student and his cognitive process, to value the autonomy and independence during the learning and the aim to help student to understand how to learn. I have improved my competence in management and in building teaching unit structure and I have learnt a lot of new and encourage teaching techniques.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working in teaching sector during the last three years: I have worked in different schools of language, both as employee and as volunteer, and I have a good experience with face to face and small groups lessons. I have taught Italian language both to adult with an high level who wanted to improve their fluency and their linguistic skills, and to youth students for the first time in contact with the Italian language.
I love very much to teach and to work in relationship with students; I like to motivate them in the process of learning using the right methodology to stimulate each of them in their educational path.
- From January 2015, Italian teacher for English students, support of English students with conversation class and Italian grammar focus, London
- 2014, Italian teacher for Foreign students in 'Studio Inglese' School of Language, Padua (Italy)
- 2013, High School Teacher in 'F. Amaldi' Istitute, Italian Support teacher, Barcelona (Spain)

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching method is mainly based on a communicative approach which gives the student a central and active role. The study of italian language procees from the general to the particular learning of all the characteristics of the new Language. Communication moments are privileged, and I always plan my lessons for the different needs of my students. I select and develop the teaching materials which are presented and discussed together with the students in order to give them a real motivation into the learning process.

Personal Description:
I have over 15 years experience working in the science field as a researcher, teacher and exam marker. I am passionate about my subject and enjoy passing on this enthusiasm and drive to the students I teach. I have spent 11 years in academia and published my work (two papers submitted 2016). I have ongoing links with local universities and can offer advice and help to prepare students for university. I can offer support and guidance with students UCAS applications, covering letters, interview skills and CV writing.

Teaching Experience:

I am qualified to teach biology and chemistry from GCSE to A level. I have 4 years experience in a secondary school where I have taught pupils in the age range 11-19. I have worked with mixed ability classes, highly able pupils and SEN pupils. This year I am very proud of my students who have all excelled in their exams achieving above and beyond their target grades. All my GCSE students improved their mock results by at least two grades. My AS students all achieved A -C grades with the new specification. My AQA A level students all achieved the required grades to enter their first choice university (gaining A-C grades in biology and chemistry). I have experience teaching the current OCR, edexcel and AQA specifications.

Tutoring Approach:

My priority focus when teaching science is to engage the students. To encourage an inquisitive mind so that the pupils will ask questions to develop their knowledge and understanding. It is also important to identify the role of science in our everyday tasks and activities - it touches on so many parts of our daily activities and links to many other subjects. It should be fun and interesting. The ability and drive to learn something new and build on that is key to progressing in a subject.
