Personal Description:
As a graduate of The Musashino Academy of Music in Japan, I have extensive experience in performing as a concert pianist in Japan and accompanist for Violinist and Vocalist for their concerts.
I accompanied on a Japanese Canzone CD which was released in 2005 and I used to make music for TV commercials. I'm not only limited to classical music, I also have experience and understanding of many types of composition, from ethnic forms right through to modern, contemporary, techno and electro. I am well traveled and have an understanding of many different cultures.
I am an outgoing, fun person and although I think this shows through to pupils, my lessons are strict and I prefer only to take on serious students who are determined to achieve their goals.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 13 years in Japan, 1 year in the USA and 18 years in the UK. I can train you to all levels, for all English or Japanese piano grade exams or for entrance to music schools, GCSE Music, universities and all levels above.

Tutoring Approach:

Students who want to improve your skills & pass exams, I am confident that you will see improvement from the very first lesson.
I feel that music is not just about learning the notes & playing them in the right order - like people, every piece has it's own character, emotion & depth. I think it is just as important to get the student to recognise & express this, as it is for them to learn the correct technique.

Personal Description:
I am very patient and tolerant but very effective in imparting right techniques in Maths. I encourage independent thinking and asking questions. I am currently teaching in a Sixth Form college and I have a good experience in teaching AS/A2 Maths, Accounting and Business Studies.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching to sixth form students for quite a long time now and have delivered excellent results. After completing my Master's in International Business, I have been working at Independent Sixth Form college in Birmingham since September 2010 teaching AS/A2 Maths, Accounting and Business Studies. Working in a sixth form college has given me immense confidence to deal with students.

Tutoring Approach:

I put a lot of emphasis on past papers and exam reports as its very important to read Examiner's Mind frame before attempting any paper. I believe that examiners understand the mind of a student through his/her written attempt, not how hard a student has worked or how impressive his subject knowledge is. In order to facilitate this, I have a vast resource of Past papers and Exam reports which prove quite conducive for my tutees.

Personal Description:
I have been a private tutor for 25 years. I really enjoy teaching on a one-to-one basis, because I not only feel that I have and can help people learn skills that they will need for the rest of their lives, but I also get a great feeling of satisfaction when one of my pupils or students either passes an exam or finds that what he/she has learnt during our lessons has helped them in their field of work.
I am a native speaker of English and a qualified EFL/ESL teacher/tutor. I lived in Greece for many years and so
I can help Greek speakers learn English.
I also enjoy teaching Modern Greek as a foreign language as I had to learn this fascinating language from scratch, and so I believe I can help someone who wants to be able to visit Greece or Cyprus to communicate with the local people in their own language.
Moreover, I have branched into the field of proof reading & editing of student dissertations, assignments & essays in all subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English as a Foreign and Second language for 27 years. I have taught all levels of English from Beginners - Advanced levels. I have prepared many students for the Cambridge ESOL exams, such as FCE, CAE, IELTS and CPE. I am also happy to say that I have had many successes in this field. I have also taught all age groups from young children to adult learners. I am a Cambridge ESOL oral examiner, and I believe that this has helped me both prepare students for exam success, but examiner training has also helped me to appreciate the importance of making a student feel relaxed and enjoy this learning experience.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that I have developed a personal, individual style when it comes to tutoring. I consider the tutor-student relationship to be of utmost importance. If a student feels confident and relaxed with his or her tutor then the learning experience is that much easier. Private tutoring allows the tutor to develop a course which is tailor-made for the student's needs. I always try to make my lessons as enjoyable as possible, by introducing a wide variety of material in every lesson, as opposed to just sticking to a text book which can well become boring and unproductive. There are many ways to learn a language or an academic subject, and this is what I try to achieve through my lessons.

Personal Description:
Master Degree in Applied Mathematics at University of Cambridge (Part III Tripos), focus: Theoretical Physics.

BSc Mathematics and Physics at University College London (UCL). Received 1st-Class Honours over all years.

Graduated 43/45 points in International Baccalaureate (IB) with 7s in (HL) Mathematics, Physics, Economics, (SL) Geography and English. Received 7 A* 1A 1B in IGCSE including above subjects.

4+ years of experience in University/Secondary (especially in A-levels) tutoring. Always highly recognised for excellent teaching and enjoyable lessons!

Teaching Experience:

4+ years of Tutoring experience on IB (International Baccalaureate) and A-level (HL) Mathematics and Physics. Encourage guided training on exercise problems and past papers. Have been highly known for excellent teaching, being clear and rigorous at appropriate levels. All students I've taught have highly positive reviews and enjoyed the lessons thoroughly, while finding themselves coming out with a solid understanding and appreciation of Maths and Physics.

Also I can provide insight if you are thinking of pursuing Mathematics or Physics in University, from "what is maths like in Uni?", to advices in different schools, how to apply and write personal statement, etc.

Tutoring Approach:

Most likely will conduct tutoring in a classroom in University Campus, unless specifically request otherwise. This gives easy access to whiteboard for clearer teaching.

Training in Maths and Physics requires a clear, solid, understanding of the key concepts and rigorous logic. The best approach towards Maths and Physics is to allow tutees to voice any possible doubts towards the subject and then clarify them while making it more solid. After that, consistent practice with real life problems and Past Paper questions, under guidance, will enable tutees to fully achieve their potential, ideally.

Finally, people achieve their best if they find something interesting. All my students so far have always find my teaching fun and enjoyable, making learning much more easy and effective! I believe this is the key to continued learning to maximise one's potentials.

- Interactive approach, clarifying doubts and questions towards subjects
- Able to phrase concepts and theories in clear and fun ways
- Work on past papers questions
- Tips and Advice for exams
- Solid training preparing skills that applies to any subject

Personal Description:
I'm a friendly, qualified teacher, currently working in a London secondary school teaching RS, Philosophy and English. I studied Theology and Religious Studies at Cambridge (First) and I initially moved to London to do an MA in International Politics and Human Rights at City University. I caught the London bug so I'm still here! I really enjoy the opportunity it offers to teach students from a whole range of backgrounds and abilities. I have always loved learning, and I love helping children develop their understanding of the world through their chosen subjects, so I find tutoring really rewarding.

I am both professional and personable, and have always had good relationships with my tutees and their parents.

Teaching Experience:

I have a lot of experience with children through nannying and youth camps I've helped on over the past 10 years, and also have experience tutoring 1-1 in London on a weekly basis. I did my teacher training in Tower Hamlets 2 years ago, and have been working as a teacher since. I achieved 'Outstanding' or 'Good' standards in all lessons that were observed during my training.

I am passionate about the importance of education, for building both competence and confidence into children and young adults.

The Cambridge supervision system showed me how beneficial individual tutoring can be. I had two 1-1 sessions every week with my subject supervisors, which taught me first hand how to inspire, challenge and build confidence in the tutor-tutee relationship.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to have a preliminary discussion (usually by phone, but in person is also fine) with the student's parent(s) to find out about the student's level of understanding, capability and confidence, as well as their main goals and any relevant exam board they are attached to. I will tailor my approach on this basis, as well as through meeting the student and talking about what s/he finds interesting and how s/he learns best.

The method of teaching will vary between pupils as well as between subjects, most markedly between languages and sciences. However, common methods used will be explaining and clarifying any 'sticking points', going through set questions and reviewing the answers, and using creative means to bring the subject to life for the student. I strongly believe that when a student enjoys the learning process and achieves set goals, however small, his/her learning is much faster and memory is greatly improved.

I have several years of experience of tutoring undergraduate students in maths at the University of Sheffield. These were mostly Fundamental and 1st year maths courses, at a similar standard to A-level.

Tutoring Approach:

I can provide one-to-one or small group tuition in a relaxed, friendly environment tailored to the student's needs. My approach is mainly to establish areas of weakness in the student's understanding, and try to help them overcome these by explaining the basic principles and working through example questions with them.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic native speaker Italian teacher qualified at the Italian Cultural Institute of London with a TIAFL (Teaching Italian as a Foreign Language) certificate. Furthermore, I have attained a Master's degree (Distinction) in Italian Literature at University of Bologna gaining an excellent command of the Italian language and a deep insight into the culture.

Teaching Experience:

During the intensive teacher training course TIAFL 'Teaching Italian as a Foreign language' at the Italian Cultural Institute in London I have taught to students of different levels including complete beginners and intermediate, planning innovative lessons and creating activities with authentic material.
I am currently working with one-to-one tuitions with a more tailored approach adapted to the student's needs and expectations.

Tutoring Approach:

I love involving students into the 'Italian world': natural and artistic heritage, social customs and peculiarities.
In my professional experience as a teacher I have developed a communicative approach able to show short-term improvements in the students' speaking ability and competence.
My lessons are student-centred enabling the tutee to effectively practise the language in an active way.
The interest is stimulated through innovative and engaging activities such as games adapted to language learning as well as audio, video and visual material.
The grammar is instructed through an inductive approach to make the student able to understand the concept within a specific context, and pronunciation is facilitated with a focus on individual phonemes, stress and intonation.
This active and engaging approach is the perfect way to stimulate the students' interest and motivation in learning a new language.

Personal Description:
Born in Edinburgh, I was raised in India and then Africa, before returning to the UK. Having lived in London and South East England since then, our family moved to the Scottish Highlands in 2012, primarily to raise our children in a less chaotic and more natural environment. We've had no regrets at all...and our various dogs and cats are similarly happy with the move!

I have always been passionate about English, from the weekly spelling tests and grammar exercises of primary school to the privilege of being taught at A Level by Tolkien's grandson. His vibrant, interactive approach shaped my ongoing learning and fired my imagination. After leaving Edinburgh University with a Masters in English Language and Literature, I went on to take a TEFL qualification and used this when travelling abroad in Turkey and throughout the Caribbean. I am delighted that I continue to work in the area of EAL with overseas students in British schools, and that technology has allowed me to work with individuals in their home countries, via Skype.

My love of English directed my career, working first at the Royal Shakespeare Company before becoming an independent theatre producer in London, and a theatre advertising executive on accounts such as Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Cats' and Cameron Mackintosh's 'Les Miserables'.

In 2008, my partner and I began the home education of our two children at primary stage. It was both challenging and inspirational and the experiences and knowledge I gained during those years - not purely academic, but also the different ways and methods of learning, the different developmental stages of children, the different learning styles of children - continue to inform my present day tutoring.

While home educating, and with my love of theatre, I founded an educational theatre group, Active Arts, with Margo Gunn, a teacher and director at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London. We worked with a wide age range of home educated and mainstream school children, providing workshops on various Shakespeare plays including 'Midsummer Night's Dream', 'The Tempest' and 'Romeo & Juliet'. Workshops were also designed specifically in support of GCSE/IGCSE work. As passionate advocates of Shakespeare, our approach was active and energetic, lifting Shakespeare off the page and introducing his plays, his language and his theatricality in an engaging and tangible manner. I was thrilled to be able to resurrect this work in the Highlands, initially at a local primary school, conducting 4 workshops for Primary 4-Primary 7, resulting in workshop presentations of 'The Tempest' and 'Macbeth'.

Teaching Experience:

In addition to home educating my two children and running Active Arts, my personal and professional lives led me into private tutoring and I have been a private tutor in English Language and Literature since 2009, working alongside children and young people from age 5 upwards, whether on general literacy issues, EAL or focusing specifically on exam work, from SATS, Nationals and GCSEs, through to A Levels, Highers and beyond. Tutees have been those in mainstream state schools, leading UK private schools and home education, following the English and Scottish curriculums, as well as IGCSEs with providers including Cambridge, OOL and Edexcel.

A number of my tutees have challenges such as Autism, ADHD, Tourette's and dyslexia, and the combination of experience, research and support courses have built my knowledge and understanding in these areas.

While I am registered with tutoring agencies, many of my tutees come via personal recommendation and I was delighted that tutees I had worked with in England chose to continue working with me via Skype after our move to Scotland.

Critically, I am PVG checked, and would be happy to provide evidence of this, together with references and qualification documentation.

Tutoring Approach:

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
My approach is not one of 'dip in and out' for an hour, or 'one size fits all', but of creating a relaxed, enjoyable, constructive atmosphere and building a relationship within which the young person's potential can be maximised, against a tailored, individual approach. While texts and challenges might be shared by various tutees, learning styles, atmospheres for learning, methods for learning, will always be different.
As importantly, my approach places great value on the parents, their involvement and their right and need for clear, ongoing and comprehensive communication. As such, I am often in regular contact with both my tutees and their parents, should they require it, outside of tutorials.

"The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be ignited."
Plutarch

If you're looking for a desk-based tutor, one who does all the talking and expects your child to just sit and listen, I am not the right person for you.

If you're looking for someone to ignite a love of English, to build confidence, to be energetic, to make learning enjoyable, active, off the page, accessible, then, here I am!

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
For many young people with whom I work, English and everything to do with it - their texts, their homework, punctuation, close reading, writing an essay - is a minefield. Often, what holds them back is a mixture of low confidence, fear of getting it wrong, and simply not having grasped the 'map' of how to 'do it'.

One of my main motivations, is to make English accessible; to take away the fear factor, to provide clear and simple structures, to grasp some key exam techniques, to demystify the exam paper, to clarify what the heck the exam paper is testing them on; to remind tutees that they have, naturally, learned one of the most difficult languages in the world and are fully capable of expressing themselves on paper, under pressure and against time.

However whimsical it may sound, as with many things in life, self-belief and understanding are powerful tools for success.

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
The demand for private tutoring is growing exponentially. As The Telegraph reported in 2012, "more than a quarter of parents use private tutoring to supplement their children's education", spending "6bn a year in the UK." A double page spread in Femail, February 2015, states research that almost 1 in 4 children are now privately tutored, with pupils at private schools almost twice as likely to have private tutoring than those from state schools. Whatever explanation there is for this rise, cost to parents remains an obvious barrier to its provision.

I am, of course, a 'business', but I also firmly believe that access to tutoring should be made as wide as possible; education is a right and not a privilege. As such, while I have a standard rate for 1-1 tutoring, I am also very happy to discuss your requirements with you and to look at options available, such as small group tutoring where the cost per head can be significantly reduced.

Please do take the opportunity of discussing your requirements with me, rather than potentially losing the opportunity of providing tutorial support for your child.

Personal Description:
Hello. My name is Carol and I'm a transplanted American. I've lived in the UK for over 10 years and I absolutely love it. My daughter Grace lives in Edinburgh with her husband and wee baby boy. And my son Elijah is 24 and lives here in London, studying fashion at Royal College of Art.

I love to cook and entertain friends. I go to the cinema a lot with my son or with friends and I try to get to the theatre at least four or five times a year. I cycle everywhere, and making things look homely and inviting brings me great joy. I read a great variety of things and watch fascinating documentaries. And if I could, I'd travel the world continuously to soak in all the amazing cultures and languages and traditions of the world.

I currently tutor English to students from a variety of countries and language backgrounds.

Teaching Experience:

I homeschooled both my children for fourteen years total. If success is measured by the outcome, my children are proof of my tutoring ability. Grace went on to graduate from University of Edinburgh with a 4 year degree in English Literature and History. Elijah graduated from Northampton University with a First in Fashion Design and is now a graduate student at Royal College of Arts. I tutored every subject to them, and also taught group tutoring sessions in Geography, Earth Science and History.
When my children went on higher education, I retrained as a TESOL teacher, the highest level to teach English as a Foreign Language. I've worked in English schools here in London and taught to the FCE exam as well as privately tutoring English to businessmen and woman from around the world.
I've been teaching now for 22 years, mostly tutoring one-on-one.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that everyone has the capacity to learn anything if it's taught to their learning style and consciousness. None of us sees things the same way....and none of us can absorb things by the same method as another person. It's crucial to understand a person's 'grid', or the way they learn. That only comes from observed feedback: that's when someone who is learning something new digests it and then gives it back in some way (an essay, a written assignment, or a verbal recounting) to show understanding. I call that 'the lightbulb moment'.

I also think that being relaxed and having fun while learning is so important. Good humour is a key to learning. When we are enjoying the company and the environment, our sensors are up and our receptors are open! It's a refreshing and invigorating experience, not a draining one.

The relationship between the tutor and student needs to be safe. It should feel like a safe place to make mistakes or to say, 'I don't understand.' Or to feel very, very excited about understanding something for the first time without being made to feel like 'it's about time.'

I believe in academic success, measured by passing tests, but not limited by them.

Personal Description:
I am a second year Mathematics Undergraduate at Balliol College, Oxford University. In school I was very keen on extracurricular maths- I achieved a distinction in the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1. I obviously have experience with the Oxford Mathematics Admissions Test. I am also very happy to teach the IB syllabus. I stay in Oxford throughout the year and am especially available during the summer for those who want to prepare for their November MAT and December Interviews. Otherwise happy to Skype or do online lessons via Tutorhunt .

Extracurricular Interests
Watching and Playing Football, Videogames

Teaching Experience:

I have had experience tutoring GCSE maths and A Level Maths and Further for the last summer in London. I also tutored KS3 students whilst in my sixth form.
I will be most keen to apply as a tutor the learning and teaching techniques that I have found to be effective whilst as a student.

Online Experience:
-Tutored a International Chinese Student applying for maths at Oxford during summer of 2015 via "Teamviewer"(student received offer to read maths at University of Oxford)
-I have had much experience learning online as a student- mostly when I was applying to university myself. I often watched videos such as Khan Academy so I know what a great online learning experience feels like. Even now while at university I regularly use things like MIT opencourseware for video lectures and the slightly more interactive format too to supplement my live classes, tutorials and lectures.
I will be most keen to apply as a tutor the learning and teaching techniques that I have found to be effective whilst as a student.

Tutoring Approach:

Friendly and very encouraging. I have had experience giving remedial lessons to younger students falling a little behind at school and also to stronger students so can adapt approach well. One challenge is students who doubt their abilities or are afraid to get a question wrong. I constantly encourage that mistakes are okay, and they shouldn`t be afraid to tackle a difficult problem. I often find that it takes a lot of experimenting with stupid, less fruitful ideas in order to reach a brilliant one. Prompt when stuck and hold belief that it is the journey to solving the problem that is most important than the final answer and most fun of course :) Despite being guilty of not doing this many times in my young mathematical career- It is important to realise that Mathematics is not a spectator sport- much of learning comes from actively solving many problems and having bravery to explore the subject alone sometimes.
