Personal Description:
I am an extremely approachable and down-to-earth person and pride myself on my ability to get on with any individual; in fact I really enjoy working with people from all walks of life! I think that having an affable temperament and approach to tutoring is the most effective way of getting the best results because, as studies confirm, students learn better when they are happy and are enjoying their learning experience. I therefore find it best for students to learn in their home environment where they are most comfortable and I am then able to provide the most effective and enjoyable tutoring experience.

Teaching Experience:

From a very young age I found that I was always good at explaining things to people, and therefore my tutoring started with simply teaching friends at school who were struggling with various subjects, and it has continued from there. In fact I was even heralded a better teacher than my secondary school Maths teacher by several classmates, who apparently preferred my approach to teaching! I went on to tutor a friend to achieve his Business Studies AVCE, then tutored several children of family friends on various subjects at GCSE and key stage 3 levels (years 7-9) during my gap year before university.

Having taken a break to study for my degree I then returned to the profession in 2009. Since then I have achieved excellent results, including an A-Level Business Studies student who went from an E to an A grade, several A*s in GCSE Maths, as well as boosting the confidence and results in young students aged 8-14 who have been struggling with their maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it is vital to be a good listener as a tutor and to adapt your tutoring style and approach to the student. If a more visual approach to learning produces better results for a student than it is important to apply such an approach, and equally, for example, I adopt a more conversational style of tutoring for students that prefer more verbal learning techniques. Ultimately, I am a well-rounded tutor who has worked successfully with individuals from various backgrounds and of varying abilities so whatever you are aiming to achieve I will endeavour to help you achieve it!

I have vast experience working with children with dyslexia, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder and do not see these as barriers to achieving positive results. I believe every child is different and therefore tailor my approach to the individual in order to achieve the best possible results.

Personal Description:
am a 31 year old primary teacher who has lived in Birmingham for 13 years after moving here for university. I am hard working, patient, have a good sense of humour and enjoy the job that I do. I like running and keeping fit. I enjoy reading and I feel I can transfer that love of reading to the children that I teach.

Teaching Experience:

I am a teacher in an inner city primary school who is very enthusiastic and eager to work with children either on a one to one basis or in small groups as this is the aspect of teaching I enjoy immensely. I have been teaching for nearly ten years and have experience in both Key Stage 1 and 2. I specialise in literacy and in both schools I have been accountable for standards in this subject in both schools that I have worked in. I have an interest in special educational needs and have been the Inclusion manager at my current school for a number of years. I have tutored a number of children and can apply all I know from working in a primary school when I tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

My hard working and extremely concientious nature makes me a good teacher and I find children relate to me extremely well. Being a current teacher means that I have access to a range of current resources and am very aware of the way children are currently being taught in school and can plan my tutoring sessions accordingly. I do try and make all my lessons fun so that the children want to learn because without that motivation it is extremely difficult to encourage the children to learn to the best of their ability.

Personal Description:
I have a broad knowledge of texts, and am well qualified to meet the curricular needs of any pupil. I have marked Standard Grade folio and Higher Critical essay for the SQA for many years, and Higher Folio for the last 4 years, so am well versed in expected pupil standards.
I would also like to say, at this point, that the reason I prefer pupils to come to my home is because I do not drive and I have lots of materials at home.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English at all levels, from 1st-6th years, for 22 years.
I have also been tutoring for 10/11 years and in last years (2013) exams I saw all my tutees pass Higher despite some of them only coming to me after having failed their Prelim. All were ecstatic with their result and phoned to inform, and thank,me. This years results have been astounding as of my 8 tutees, 7 got A passes and one got a B. All came for the majority of the year and none were certainties for an A. Indeed 3 were struggling but worked extremely hard and got well deserved A's.

As well as new pupils for Higher last session ( 13/14) I also had several returning pupils,or siblings, from last year as my services as a tutor have been retained to now take them through the transition from Standard Grade/Int.2 to Higher. This has been a trend for me as tutees have always been happy with the lessons and my efforts in making them feel comfortable.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a well experienced tutor on a 1 to 1 and group basis. I have tutored at all Secondary levels and will support, and supplement, the teaching materials already provided by the pupils' schools. I will look over, and grade, work done by pupils in school and that set by me. In general, I will identify a pupils weakest areas and we will work hard on improving on that whilst "fine tuning" other areas.
As of the new Academic year 2014/15 National 5 and New Higher students will be catered for and I, myself, will be teaching it to my 4th and 5th year students. This will be a very challenging year for S4 as a lot has to be done in a shorter time as year 4, generally have 1 or 2 less teaching periods than year 5/6 yet they have the same work to cover. In addition they have more exams and work experience to cope with. An early start at this would be advised in order to get into folio as soon as possible.

Personal Description:
I am enthusiastic, approachable, bubbly professional who lives for teaching. Well articulated and presentable. Teaching is my profession which I really do enjoy doing. I was born in Wales, taught in Swansea and Birmingham. I have also tutored through local authorities and schools. I am well specialized in Mathematics and very much enjoy the subject.

Teaching Experience:

I specialize in Secondary Mathematics 11-18 years, with teacher training from the Birmingham University. I have also tutored via Fleet tutors and the local authority, including family and friends. I have experienced teaching Maths in several comprehensive.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to be direct and highly organised and I put forth the tutees to pick up these skills early on as it makes teaching and learning a lot less difficult. I explain the whys in mathematics rather than work on solving solutions as I believe grasping an intuitive concept will lead to the material staying longer in the memory and utilised in future practical use. My approach to teaching is simply to teach in a way that pupils never forget.

Personal Description:
Hola, I am a University Educated Native Spanish Speaker residing permanently in the UK and with close ties to Cuba, my native country. I am a professional translator with years of experience in translating documents from English into Spanish and I have experience as a Spanish teacher as well.
I find it very rewarding and I enjoy helping others to learn a new language or improve their knowledge and skills they have already got.

Teaching Experience:

Before coming to England in 2008 I worked as an English Teacher at a Secondary School in Cuba for 1 year and taught the Spanish Language to English speaking adults who visited the country as tourists. Since I started tutoring in England I have been teaching the language to adults and children which have given me more practical experience and ideas for using new and different ways to teach according to their personal skills and aims. I have good rapport with my students and I encourage them to review at home what they have already learned in my lessons for them to be able to reach their goals quicker and move a step forward. I also use a good and useful activity book which helps the students to do practical exercises during the lessons and for homework if they wish.

Tutoring Approach:

I design my lessons specifically for you, working at your speed and focusing on what you prefer the most, speaking, pronunciation, reading, listening, writing, vocabulary, grammar, conversation or other. I will develop a learning plan to suit each person's needs, goals and abilities. I enjoy teaching people of all ages and levels, beginners or more advanced.

Personal Description:
***Exam Revision Special - Commit to 5 or more lessons between April-June and have the first one for free***

During studying for my BSc in Chemistry at the University of Wales Bangor, I took a keen interest in the field of materials chemistry, particularily for medical applications. Subsequently I started reading for PhD in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Manchester and I am currently in my third year.

My laboratory group is highly diverse with projects focused on all areas of chemistry with a high emphasis on biochemistry, polymer chemistry, nanoscience and physical chemistry. As a consequence of my surroundings I am always up to date with every part of my field and I would be able to teach any aspect of chemistry to prospective students.

Teaching Experience:

During my PhD I have been a laboratory demonstrator for a number of different undergraduate modules within my school and in total I have over 300 hours of experience. My duties for demonstrating include training students to use the equipment provided and to teach them the relevant science behind their data. In addition to demonstrating in laboratory classes I regularly receive undergraduate exam papers to mark from lecturers in my school.

Tutoring Approach:

Chemistry is without question one of the more difficult subjects to study, however it is one of the most rewarding. I will tailor each lesson to the students individual needs with a high emphasis on their weakest areas. I have a large library of academic books along with 3 years worth of study notes and so have an almost endless stock of material to help create problems to help drive home the foundational science behind what the student is learning.

When approaching the exam period I generally go over many past papers in order to fully train students to get the best grade possible.

Please note: I do not have a CRB certificate however, if required I would be happy to get one.

Personal Description:
I am a Graduate in Engineering with excellent academic background. Recently I have completed masters in Structural Engineering with distinction. I have sound communication skills and have ability to deliver my concepts at any level.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Rate analysis and Structural Engineering to B-tech students. Currently I am teaching Maths, Physics and Chemistry to the G.C.S.E Students.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching is the mother of all professions and it is one of the most respectable profession. To have a complete conceptual knowledge about something and to have an ability to deliver that knowledge both are totally different things. Most people have outstanding knowledge but they are unable to deliver that knowledge effectively. So my approach to tutoring is to deliver my concepts effectively and to teach at all levels.

My duties involved: helping struggling students with classroom activities, helping them to express themselves and dealing with classroom behavioural issues. When working with students, I was noted for being approachable, compassionate, kind and patient.

On top of this, I have given guest lessons in Theology and Religious studies at Leeds Trinity University College, Jesmond Methodist Church, Gosforth High School and the Royal Grammar School. Since I started tutoring in the North East, I have tutored students from Durham, Dunston, Gateshead, Gosforth and Sunderland.
Both teachers and students have acknowledged my sessions as organised, stimulating and thorough.

Tutoring Approach:

Exactly how I conduct the lessons depends on the needs of the tutee. However, most tutees that I have met require help with additional knowledge and essay-writing. Thus, the approach that I usually take is as follows. I divide the lesson into two parts.

For the first half, I will have a discussion with the tutee on a particular topic. To help the tutee prepare for the discussion, I will give him / her: a detailed hand-out on the topic, some discussion questions and (if necessary) a brief background on the important key thinkers.

For the second half, I will teach the tutee essay-writing techniques. To help him / her with this exercise, I will teach the tutee an essay-writing formula. We will then apply this to past-paper questions. I will then look over these questions and return them with detailed feedback for how to improve. When necessary, I will provide pastoral support for exam stress.

Testimonies from previous tutees:

'Michael has been an incredibly reliable tutor, the lessons were very well planned and clearly thought out. It was very helpful that he was willing to cater to individual learning styles and willing to respond to feedback. I think that he would be most helpful for those doing GCSEs and A Levels. Overall, a positive experience, he put in maximum effort to the tutoring sessions'.

Hannah

'Michael is a dedicated, supportive and patient tutor, and took the time to create tutoring sessions which were designed with jack's learning style in mind. Michael gave excellent advice and guidance in his subject in preparation for both the AS RE exam, but also essay writing techniques for A2 as he knew this was an area which Jack needed help in developing his skills. I would have no hesitation in recommending Michael's services to anyone. Thank you Michael for your help and support!'

Personal Description:
Hi,

I have recently graduated from UCL with a 1st-class degree majoring in Mathematics and I am currently looking for students to tutor.

As an individual who initially struggled to do well in maths during my early teens, I understand the difficulties that some may have with grasping abstract concepts in this subject. However, through my perseverance I learned how to effectively tackle problems that I initially viewed as being incomprehensible and complex. Now I am a competent mathematician who is passionate about helping others to enjoy the subject that many still fear.

Teaching Experience:

Teacher's Assistant: Woodhouse College, 2008
SATs Private Tutor: 2008
Teacher's Assistant: Wessex Gardens Primary School, 2007

Tutoring Approach:

Since I understand that everyone has a unique learning style and picks up information at different speeds, I prefer to help students in the most patient manner, while also encouraging them to push themselves.

I believe that patience is paramount when trying to help someone learn new concepts and ideas as this also enables one best tailor the most efficient teaching method.

Once I believe a student has grasped a new concept, I will then fortify their knowledge and make them more confident with it by setting them appropriately challenging questions.

Personal Description:
An enthusiastic and dynamic multilingual tutor with a variety of teaching experiences at all levels in three different countries (France, Romania, England).

Over 8 years of experience as a qualified multilingual teacher/proofreader/translator in the study of French and English language.

Teaching Experience:

8 years of private tuition (French/ English) to children and adults in Romania, France and England;
5 years teaching and tutoring French and English in Romania
3 years of tutoring in France

This total immersion in a French environment with native speakers hugely contributed to my understanding of the French culture and behaviour, as well as their way of addressing and solving matters.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor, I consider the student's progress even after a few lessons to be the most important aim and reason for my work.

The pleasure I take in teaching foreign languages comes especially from my wish to instill into my students a love for the beauty and mystery of a new linguistic field and new semantic world. One of my biggest contentments is to share my knowledge and interest with them and then acknowledge their progress in this domain. My purpose is not only to work with passion but also to enable my students to enlarge their horizons so they are able to quickly compare, assimilate and develop their swiftness when communicating in a foreign language.

In other words, I target with priority:

-the valorization of the student's potential,
-the diversity of the amount of information that each student assimilates
-the enthusiasm and the interactive atmosphere during the lessons

I find that the level at which each student begins with is not important as long as there is a visible progress between the start and the finish of the tuition.

The basis of my lessons consists of the notions which everyone needs in order to know a foreign language, aspects related to the cultural and the real life and the attention on the typical rules of the foreign language.

With delight and interest I concentrate on the efficient use of a variety of media (songs, short films, films, books, newspaper articles, literature) which could animate the lessons.

My eagerness and determination to learn and teach foreign languages (French, English and Italian) developed my interest in analyzing, comparing and synthesizing information as well as enabling me to discover various methods of teaching a considerable amount of knowledge. Through assiduity and responsibility I managed to find the path towards mastering these foreign languages and teaching them with enthusiasm.

Foreign languages are a source of mystery, a mix of rules and originality, a mine of meanings and linguistic surprises, a challenge. I've always found them a very absorbing and fulfilling but sometimes frustratingly vast field which attracts and challenges to a thorough study and wider analysis.

I learned that paying close attention to quality of all my work and grasping opportunities to learn new skills must be prioritized by professional workers.

1) "The first thing that struck me (as an American native speaker) is the remarkable fluency of her oral and written French, which is of a very high academic calibre.
I appreciated her openness and intellectual acuity. In short, it was truly a pleasure to have her as a tutor.
I was also impressed by her discretion, politeness and ability to work with her students and encourage them to progress and love French as one of the most beautiful language in this world."
Jessica G. 24 years old

2) "I find Giorgiana's teaching method easy to follow, however thorough. She very well manages to alternate my two languages (English and Romanian) and make references to the similarities between my languages and French. This helps me understand better because she can then refer to a rule in a language that also applies in French and I can use that to remember the French rule better. After she shows me something, she always ensures that I have taken in the lesson and have listened carefully, testing me on what she has just taught me. To consolidate the learning, she regularly gives me work to complete before our next lesson. Thanks to Giorgiana's tuition, I am now ahead of my class and my teacher is very impressed!"
Maria R., 12 years old student.

3) "I noticed she was a very intelligent person, motivated, with genuine working aptitudes, treating the teaching profession with the maximum of responsibility and seriousness. She belongs to that category of people with a high spirit of undertaking interesting and useful methods, updated in her domain and in other fields as well.
She really has pedagogical tact, knows how to adapt to the public and catch its attention through a mix of gentleness, patience and amiability."
Anthony M. 19 years old

Personal Description:
I am now a post-graduate student whose program is the Msc Education in the University of Edinburgh. I am a Chinese girl whose undergraduate major is English. My hometown is Shandong, a coastal province in the north of China, where people speak standard Mandarin. Speaking of interests, one of my favourite books is A Dream in Red Mansions. I read this book more than 3 times and every time I get some new perspectives and feelings about Chinese traditional culture and Chinese language. Furthermore I like reading some essays and history novel for deep understanding of Chinese classic literature and evolution. As for hobby, playing Guzheng, a traditional Chinese instrument, is of importance in my spare time even in my life. Since 5 years old, Guzheng has accompanied me grow. We both have shared happiness and sadness. She likes an intimate enjoying my stories and experiences. I really think these can help me a lot when I am teaching Mandarin in English and dealing with teaching things and most of all, the desire for introducing Chinese language and culture and letting more people to know much about real China is my key point for applying this tutor.

Teaching Experience:

During undergraduate I was an editor of a students' society which is a newspaper office. A numbers of press releases and essays I wrote promoted my language skills. My Chinese improved a lot, the command of Chinese characters in particular. In addition, I pass the national Mandarin test with a score of 93.3 out of 100. Apart from improving my linguistic ability, I also tried to put what I had learned into teaching practices through securing internships. My internship as a teaching assistant at Shandong Justice Police Vocational College is a rewarding experience which not allowed me to handle some teaching management issues like sorting out students' information, grading students' papers and designing test papers, but also provide me with chances to serve in the real-life teaching practices. This teaching experience exercises my English skills especially speaking.

Tutoring Approach:

I have different tutoring methodologies according to different tutees in order to gain a better effect.

For the young children, I focus on cultivating their interests and evoking their confidence about learning. I always believe that the young inherently are able to learn stuff easily and efficiently as soon as they find out the enjoyment and happiness of what they learned. Therefore, though what they going to learn is of important indeed, the desire they want to learn is the key issue.

For the adult and tutees who have already formed their own self-control of behavior, way of learning and interests of what they going to learn, I focus on the correction and experiential learning strategies. I will teach native Chinese language and Chinese culture, and something else about Chinese, no matter the country or the language itself.
