Personal Description:
I am a very patient and dedicated French native speaker. I tailor my lessons to the students' needs and expectations. Tutoring is not just guiding students through their learning but also giving them confidence and enabling them to experience lessons in a relaxed, friendly and yet serious way.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a teacher for over 9 years and have a very diverse experience as I have been working in an Alliance francaise in Mexico, in a language centre, two adult education centres and two tutoring agencies. My first teaching experience was a French Language Assistant in Preston, Lancashire. I have had students ranging from 7 years old to 70+, from absolute beginners to advanced levels. I've given private and group classes and intensive courses (up to 7h a day) in schools and companies. I have over 2000 teaching hours, including more than 700 hours of private tuition (basically in French Literature, French and English as Foreign Languages).

Coming from France where I recently taught French Literature to a student preparing a diploma in Accounting, I am now in charge of two groups of beginner students in a language school and give private tuition (self-employed as well as with two tutoring agencies).

Tutoring Approach:

I am very flexible and know how to adapt my teaching to the specificities and demands of the students.
Understand and be understood! That's the main thing when you learn a language, be able to communicate.

Whether you are a student taking GCSE or A levels in French and need confidence for your exam or you are a professional willing to have a proper conversation with your French colleagues or clients, or just want to enjoy your next holidays in a French-speaking country, whether on a daily basis or intensive classes, we will first talk about what YOU are looking for and how I will help you to achieve your language goals.

Personal Description:
My name is Chris and I specialise in preparing students for both the 11+ entrance exams and A-level chemistry exams. Until January 2011, I was a Science Teacher at Plymstock School in Plymouth where I had been the Head of Chemistry for 10 years. Previously I had worked at Kelly College Independent School as a Chemistry Teacher and the Head of Lower School Science. Since January 2011, I have been self employed as both a Professional Tutor and also a Professional Drummer! I love both aspects of my self-employment and look forward to helping many more students achieve exam success.

Teaching Experience:

Chris has been teaching and tutoring A-level chemistry since 1994 and as an ex-Head of Chemistry who has worked in both state schools and private schools, he has helped countless students achieve the high grades they often need for university entrance. Many of my ex-students have gone on to vet school, medical school and Ox-bridge.

Chris has also been teaching Key Stage 3 since 1994 and has a good understanding of the level of written work and mathmatical ability expected of the most able Year 7 students when they begin Secondary School. He has helped countless students to achieve their potential throughout Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 and earlier in his career he was employed as Head of Lower School Science at Kelly College Independent School in Tavistock, Devon.

Chris has a boy and a girl who have both been through the 11+ process and so is well aware of the stresses and benefits that all families are likely to experience, if they are to apply to a selective school.

Chris has an up to date fully enhanced CRB check and also public liability insurance.
You can also find him on the internet listed with various other agencies.

Grammar school education is really rewarding for able students and I hope to get the
chance to show you what the schools are looking for.

Tutoring Approach:

CHEMISTRY
I use boardworks PowerPoints to aid understanding but try to focus the learning around past paper questions and answers as much as possible.
I have handwritten answers to AQA, OCR-A and OCR-Salters past papers which are scanned in to the computer for projection onto a smart board.

For 11+, I teach collaboratively with my neighbour Becky, also listed on UK Tutors. We jointly teach small groups with class sizes limited to a maximum of ten students. Students in a small group support each other and work together with a shared purpose and confidence.
Weekly 60 minute sessions at 17.50, run from September until the end of February. These are followed by 75 minute sessions at 20 which run from March to the September exams. Payment is monthly in advance, preferably by bank transfer.

Becky is a knowledgeable Primary School teacher with experience across the primary age range. She has a particular interest in enabling children to reach their full potential, using interesting teaching strategies and by recognising various learning styles. She obtained her BEd Honours degree in Primary Teaching as a mature student and not only achieved a first class degree, but completed each of her placements as an 'Outstanding' teacher. Becky has a fully enhanced CRB and is trained in the Safeguarding of Children. She has also ensured that she has kept up to date through continued professional development.

Personal Description:
Annie has enjoyed teaching Functional English (equivalent to GCSE English) for the past two years. As a published writer/novelist, her passion for writing is apparent in every lesson - whether for children or for adults.

Her degree in Theology and her position as Assistant Examiner for OCR, marking GCSE Religious Studies exam papers every summer, gives her a unique insight into the examination requirements. She has had educational resources published, relating also to GCSE Religious Studies. This all means she can teach 'to spec' every step of the way, in a lively, thorough and often humorous manner.

She is also enthusiastic about preparing KS2 children for their English SATs, and assisting AS/A2 Philosophy students with their course.

Finally, she is fully qualified to teach EFL/ESOL (English to speakers of other languages) and would welcome the opportunity to take on more students in this area.

Teaching Experience:

Two years teaching Functional English (adults).
Twelve years teaching assistant for KS2 (lots of SATS work).
Some A Level Philosophy teaching.

Personal Description:
I currently work as a receptionist at China Construction Bank. I love using my language every day and feel I will never lose my passion for Chinese. I am committed to inspiring this same passion in other learners.

I graduated from University of Leeds specializing in Mandarin Chinese and French language. As part of my degree I spent one year living and studying in Shanghai at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. During the year I attended a variety of classes and practised as much as possible, allowing me to become fluent. At university I graduated with a 2:1, achieving distinction in Spoken Chinese and Firsts in Chinese Literature and Politics & Law.

I have spent 2 out of the past 5 years living in China and hope that I will always continue to develop my language abilities.

I have a real passion for languages and have been very privileged to have had the opportunities to go and live in the countries where these languages are spoken and experience the diverse culture each country has to offer. Teaching is something that I am very passionate about and want to help others have the same opportunities I have been fortunate to have.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring beginners Chinese to adults face to face and on skype twice a week since January 2014.

I have experience of teaching both Chinese to English speakers and English to Chinese speakers. Whilst living in China in 2008, I taught English to kindergarten classes and in 2009-2010 I taught conversational English to adult hairdressers at the Vidal Sassoon Hair Academy in Shanghai.

During my final year at the University of Leeds, I took part in the Oriental Express programme, where I taught basic Chinese (spoken and written) to secondary school students at a local school.

I spent last year as an English Language Assistant for the British Council in Suzhou, China, where I taught Enlish to 14-18 year olds. I also taught one-on-one to Japanese learners of English.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is very relaxed in order to make the learner as confident as possible in a stress-free working environment. I love Chinese, which is probably why I am so enthusiastic about teaching it to others. I tailor my lessons to the need of the learner and work at the learner's pace. I am also quite happy to teach in the target language. I encourage students to speak confidently in Mandarin, as I myself remember how daunting it can often seem as a learner. I believe that grammar and vocabulary is key when learning a language which is why I teach grammar structures whilst referring back to previously learnt vocabulary in order to build up a data base of new words. Being able to speak another language opens up many opportunities which is why I strive to help my students do the best they can.

Personal Description:
Currently a final year student at Queen Mary, University of London, I have in-depth knowledge in History and Politics. Recently, I have taken a year out to the US to extend my knowledge in American History and Politics. Having studied both these subjects for my A levels, I know what students are going through and what they should expect in an exam. I am also fluent in Cantonese and able to write and read in traditional Chinese.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience is largely based on informal tutoring in the form of discussion with younger students. Although I have never taught formally in a classroom before, I believe this should not hinder, but rather, enhance my ability to interact with students, especially when it comes to one-on-one tuition.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to base my tutoring around discussion with the student. I believe allowing the student to wrestle with difficult ideas and understanding them is better than spoon-feeding information. I also think sample essays, resources from beyond the curriculum would be a great help, so that would be a big part of my tuition approach as well.

Personal Description:
I have a BA Honours Degree in English Studies from Aleppo University in Syria in 2000. I embarked on two Postgraduate Diplomas at Aleppo University one in Linguistics (2002); the other in Education and Qualification in 2003. In both of these Diplomas I was awarded a Distinction. In 2002, I was fortunate in gaining a scholarship to study in the UK and was nominated to study in the department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex. I found this course to be immensely useful to me as a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) professional as I was able to observe a range of different EAP (English for Academic Purposes)classrooms; make academic presentations and really developed my love of scholarship which fired me with the enthusiasm to read for a PhD degree. I finished my doctorate in TESOL at the University of Ulster entitled "EAP Teachers Approaches to Giving Written Feedback on Academic Writing in British and Syrian ELT Centres". . I am extremely interested in teaching the language skills (as my recent doctorate shows). I am extremely hard working and sociable. I have good comparative knowledge of Western and Islamic societies which I could share with students where pertinent. I also have two qualifications from Ulster University in Peer Mentoring and Counselling.

I have strong interpersonal, communication, and classroom management skills and self-motivator. Apart from being an interesting experience in itself, tutoring is an ideal opportunity for me at this stage of my career as the area of this job is interesting to me and I have got the enthusiasm and motivation and energy to do it well and to develop things.I would like consider offering online tutorials (email writing tutorials for students who can not attend some classes).

Teaching Experience:

In the Diploma of Education and Qualification, I have been trained how to teach and how to deliver lectures in Arabic and English and also how to prepare lesson plan. I have experience of teaching university students in Syria as I was a lecturer at Aleppo University from 2002 to 2013. I enjoy teaching and lecturing and love my profession as I am particularly interested in communicating with individuals and groups. My colleagues and supervisors all say that I am a natural communicator and this, coupled with my knowledge of the field, leads me to think that I would make a good teacher. My mother tongue language is Arabic, yet my knowledge of written and spoken English is very good as well. I am also interested in materials design and curriculum development in ELT and could make useful contributions in these areas. I have also specialized in ESP, Materials and Methods in ELT, Language Teachers in Classrooms and Vocabulary and would be interested in teaching international students. My job in Syria was delivering pre-sessional programmes in academic English language to Syrian postgraduate students. Those students have to attend some EAP and ESP courses and pass the final exam which will enable them to pursue their high studies in Syria or in some English speaking countries like UK, USA and Canada. My teaching experience gives me a deeper insight and understanding of actual teaching/learning contexts. When I did my MA degree at Essex University, I taught some international students as part of the "Teaching Practice" module. I have been trained how to write a lesson plan for international students and how to use the PowerPoint for delivering lectures. Furthermore, I am very au fait with technology in the classroom.

Tutoring Approach:

It is the application of an integrating approach for the development of communicative skills in the lesson, in which the four skills in the acquisition of knowledge of a foreign language can be taught in a coherent way, and practiced together, with a distinction of the importance of one upon the other. One image for teaching English as a second or foreign language (ESL/EFL) is that of a tapestry. The tapestry is woven from many strands, such as the characteristics of the teacher, the learner, the setting, and the relevant languages (i.e., English and the native languages of the learners and the teacher). For the instructional loom to produce a large, strong, beautiful, colorful tapestry, all of these strands must be interwoven in positive ways. For example, the instructor's teaching style must address the learning style of the learner, the learner must be motivated, and the setting must provide resources and values that strongly support the teaching of the language. However, if the strands are not woven together effectively, the instructional loom is likely to produce something small, weak, ragged, and pale--not recognizable as a tapestry at all.
