Personal Description:
I enjoy teaching and consider myself both easy going and approachable, whilst being firm and demanding enough to get the best out of any potential student. I graduated with a 2:1 in Biochemistry (with a year in industry) from the University York. Following from my undergraduate degree I obtained an MRes with distinction in Molecular Plant Biology and Biotechnology at Imperial College London. This was followed by a further MRes with distinction in Urban Sustainability and Resilience at University College London. I am currently undertaking an Engineering doctorate at University College London, where my research area focuses on the production of algal biomass. The work falls within the fields of Biochemical and Environmental Engineering, and I have recently obtained research grants to pursue my work.

Teaching Experience:

At university I would often take part in student led tutorials and workshops, allowing me to hone my teaching and listening skills. I currently demonstrate in undergraduate laboratory classes and lead seminar discussions within my department. This university teaching experience is coupled with considerable prior activity in tutoring both friends, family and students of all ages in scientific subject areas, with high levels of success. I am currently tutoring key stage 3, and GCSE biology, chemistry and physics.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an informal teaching style and seek to understand the particular educational requirements of each individual tutee. To this end I will endeavor to promote educational development through note taking, written exercises, case studies, question and discussion periods, as well as with independent study. When the time comes for formal examinations the learning focus will shift to past paper practice and improving general examination technique. I have a firm belief in always being approachable for any type of question, great or small and l like to foster an inquisitive relationship with my tutee.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate of Oxford University in Engineering and Computing Science. I am fluent in French (as well as English and Polish). From an early age, I had a passion for maths and physics and at school, I imagined how I would envisage teaching those subjects differently. I would often explain things in an alternative way to my friends to help their understanding.
Please note that I also teach engineering topics at university level, usually up to first or second year, depending on the topics.

Teaching Experience:

I have a variety of tutoring experience at both university and high school level (AS and A level). I like to begin teaching with a session to become acquainted with the tutee and their needs.

At Oxford, I studied under the tutorial system which usually meant one professor to one or two students and this taught me to express myself clearly. I often studied one-to-one with a coursemate where learning was achieved through exchanging knowledge by teaching each other.

Tutoring Approach:

I know that every person learns differently and I will be looking to tailor my tutoring style to every student's particular needs. For maths, engineering and physics, I will aim to first establish a thorough understanding of the basics concepts, which is fundamental to making progress in scientific subjects; this will be followed by lots of practice. For French, the key is to be comfortable with the language and I will aim to conduct lessons entirely in French as soon as possible.

Personal Description:
I'm an Optometry graduate from University of Manchester. As a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese, I was educated in English at school in Malaysia and I learnt my mother tongue since when I was little. In addition, I have acquired Malay language as my third language throughout my academic life. In my past A Levels examination, I gained A* in Mathematics, and A in both Biology and Chemistry. I believe my academic achievement makes me a good fit in tutoring the subjects above.

Teaching Experience:

Tutored in Chemistry and Biology A Level in the past three years. Actively involved in peer to peer tutoring programme in A Levels as a Chemistry tutor in college for 1 year.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm willing to go through past exam papers and exercises as for Maths, Chemistry and Biology with students should they don't understand them and wouldn't mind to go extra mile to prepare notes and useful study skills for the students. I reckon that tutoring in a friendly manner would enhance learning process instead of forcing the student to do as said. Also, I believe that learning to speak Mandarin Chinese is easier when a student works with a native speaker as this allows the student to learn the correct pronunciation quickly. This would also be a good starting point if you want to learn basic Chinese language.

Personal Description:
I tutor Mathematics up to GCSE standard, as well as General Science to Common Entrance.

I graduated from secondary school in July 2011, and am now studying the Linguistics BA course at the University of Cambridge.

As a recent school leaver, I have an understanding of what it takes to achieve success in public examinations. I can provide a different perspective and more personal style of learning to a traditional classroom environment.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring professionally, with particular focus on mathematics, for about six months. As the eldest sibling in my family I have spent many more hours helping my younger brother and sister across a variety of subjects.

In addition, I have worked at Young Epilepsy (a leading national centre for young people with epilepsy), helped out with the junior section at my local cricket club, coached cricket professionally further afield and previously volunteered at my school in running a weekly special needs computing club.

Tutoring Approach:

To ensure that I am able to fully commit to helping my tutees progress while studying full time at a world-leading university, I maintain a small clientele. Unfortunately, as a result I often have to advise those interested that regretfully I cannot accept their request.

At present, I only tutor one-to-one, as crucially this makes the lessons distinct from being taught in a group environment.

Personal Description:
I am a 31 year old, London based teacher who has recently returned from living and teaching overseas. I love teaching and have the CELTA qualification, as well as six years experience. I am flexible with hours and will charge half price if you can find a friend to join you!

Teaching Experience:

Six years.

IELTS, CAE, FCE

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer not to lecture students and instead put the focus on them, using what they already know in order to help them develop understanding by themselves. In the EFL world this is known as 'guided discovery'. Experience has shown me that this is a highly effective way of learning.

I like to be as practical as possible when teaching, meaning that I always put language into context and prefer to demonstrate rather than lecture.

I am friendly and patient, but I am also serious about the job and aim to do everything possible to develop my students' ability.

Personal Description:
My name is Boma and I am currently developing an Online Learning Management portal to train students online in Business related studies. I have two Master of Science in Project Management and Digital Architectural Design and have always wanted to pass on the knowledge I have gained by becoming a teacher and I feel tutoring is an excellent starting point. I will go on to become a researcher at either the University of Salford or University College London in September 2013.

Teaching Experience:

I have mentored students for a number of years especially students who find it difficult to fully grasp concepts taught in class; it has been a very rewarding experience and allowed me to perfect my teaching methodology. I am very comfortable with most students whom I have come in contact with.

Tutoring Approach:

There is a saying that states that we can all not be the best but I think we can all be OUR best. My tutoring approach achieves best in the short term and this is based on this acceptance. My goal as a tutor is to enable my tutees to become successful Independent learners who are not just able to pass the next assessment but every homework, test, etc by themselves thereby. I do not intend to become a permanent fixture in your lives but rather I would ensure you become even better than me because your progress is definitely my success.

I begin every tuition commitment with an introductory/diagnostic lesson; I like to judge for myself the student's current areas of strength and weakness. I always start by checking the foundation because a sure foundation is the only way to guarantee our short-term objectives are successfully met and that we lay a solid foundation for continued academic ventures.

My first meeting is usually designed to understand our needs which are basically your objectives, marking scheme and any other concerns with regards to your study.

On our second meeting after having a basic understanding from our first meeting, I provide the tutee with a plan that is designed and customised to meet our objectives. I plan and bring with me a lesson that is relevant to the tutee's needs.

Lesson delivery is done very much with the learner's individual learning style in mind. I incorporate as many forms of media as possible to teach and keep the interests of my tutee. I also try to show the relevance and application of the subject in everyday life. I make sure that the tutee has a complete understanding of the subject as we go along and work in line with the tutee's deadline.

My aim is to ensure that the student achieve an A-Grade or be among the top percentile of the class. I am very flexible in constructing what I tutor around the needs of the tutee.

Hello! My name is Yulia. I am a native Russian speaker, fluent in English, graduated in the Russian Federation (Moscow) and worked there later on for over 10 years. For the last four years I have been living and working in the UK and this has allowed me to develop a better understanding of the English language, its cultural nuances, people and life. I was kindly surprised that there are people out there who are truly interested in learning Russian and therefore I felt that I could help them to learn one of the most difficult languages in an easy and affordable ways.

As a Russian tutor I have an experience in teaching Russian both children and adults using the finest adapted educational materials for teaching and learning Russian language as a foreign at all levels. I use a large variety of textbooks with CD and DVD-supplement, training materials for the development of speech, writing, listening and reading comprehension skills, which helps to make the learning process as effective and productive as possible. I currently run a Russian group course for the beginners.
My degree in law and experience in teaching Russian ensures the quality of the final result- you are able to communicate in Russian. If you are learning Russian from scratch and want to become fluent, my aim is to help you to explore the language in its complexity straight from the beginning. From my experience grammar and vocabulary is a key to the successful learning process and ability to communicate with a great confidence but studying just grammar can be quite difficult or daunting, that is why a combination of audio, visual and interactive activities, which I try to integrate into my lessons, help to bring more fun and promising results.

Personal Description:
NEW: I am currently taking on new students for courses starting October 1st for English as a foreign language- please contact me for details. Other private lessons in Japanese and English are also being offered starting any time. I now have a classroom in Northampton town centre, which students can request to use for self study when lessons are not in session. A variety of language textbooks are available for reference purposes also during self study periods.

Nice to meet you! I'm Rebecca; I'm 25 years old and graduated from Bangor University with a BSc in Psychology with Clinical and Health Psychology. After university I spent a year as a specialist support worker for adults with autism and autistic traits. Following this, I spent nearly 2 years teaching English as a foreign language in Japan. Whilst in Japan, I also learnt how to speak conversational Japanese, and can also read and write hiragana, katakana, and first-grade level kanji. I now tutor English and Japanese, and have recently registered my own language services company that will provide courses in English as a foreign language aimed at those wishing to pass their UK citizenship exam. Private English and Japanese lessons are also being run as usual.

I welcome any students with special needs; I have vast experience in the Psychological field and work well with anyone who needs that little bit of extra help and attention! I also work great with kids who need help boosting their English and Maths at school- in the last year one of my 5-year-old student's grades have gone from below average to excellent in their school report.

Please note: if you would like me to teach at your home or meet somewhere public, I do charge extra to cover my travel costs (30p per mile).

Teaching Experience:

My main teaching experience includes the 2 years I spent teaching English as a foreign language in Japan. I designed the yearly teaching schedules, lesson plans, and then taught the lessons. My students were from the age of 3 to 65, so I have experience in teaching all ages. Whilst in Japan I also taught beginner's Japanese to foreigners living in my local area.

Since returning to England I tutor English and Japanese; I have also been teaching one of my younger students English, Math, and other related subjects required for primary school.

At university I volunteered for several groups including an activity group for disadvantaged children, assisting in secondary school classrooms, volunteering at the local mental health unit and volunteering as a charity shop assistant.

Prior to this, I often tutored my younger sister (who has Asperger's Syndrome) and helped her to understand her school work. I have also clocked up countless hours of babysitting for parents around the local area.

Tutoring Approach:

For teaching English as a foreign language, or when teaching Japanese, I believe a fun, active approach is the most effective. A short amount of time is spent drilling sentences and words; but then these new words and phrases should be used in role plays, games, or challenges to make the new vocabulary stick.

When teaching English, debates about the subject material cause important points to be remembered, help students to structure their arguments more clearly, and let students consider what the most important points are and consider counter arguments. Games for younger children and a variety of different activities to help enforce new vocabulary and sentences are also important.

Personal Description:
I have a First Class Hons. in Drama from the University of East Anglia. I have also attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London for actor training. I teach drama tuition at Theatrix Performing Arts School in St Albans, Hertfordshire to a range of age groups. Alongside my teaching I am a working professional actor and writer. I have written and performed in an award winning film; I am a trained radio presenter on my local station and I have also established my own theatre company, The Callàs Company.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked at Theatrix Performing Arts school in St Albans, Hertfordshire since Sept. 2012. I have directed students through Trinity College London acting examinations as well as public performances in shows. In autumn 2013 my students achieved a 100% pass rate with Merits or Distinctions in their performance examinations.

I have worked with private students on both their practical and theoretical drama school exams at GCSE and A-Level standard.

Furthermore, I worked as a volunteer English teacher on the island of Roatan in Honduras, Central America for one year. I taught Spanish and Garifuna speaking children aged 12 to 24 in basic spoken and written English.

Tutoring Approach:

I encourage a focus on movement and text analysis when working with students on the practical and performance aspects of theatre. I use exercises, improvisations and games to engage them with the scenes they are working on.

I try to facilitate a students' personal creativity when working with them on theoretical theatre work; I encourage them to use their own ideas and opinions. It is my view that theatre is not objective, so allowing personal style is very important.

Personal Description:
I am a young, London based, environmental scientist with a love of music and languages working for an environmental consultancy. I graduated from the University of Leeds with a 2:i for an integrated masters in Environmental Science. I have always had a strong academic record due to my enthusiasm for learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have spent many years teaching private piano lessons on a one to one basis and understand the effort that must be put in form both sides through such a concentrated period of study with a tutor. My main success with previous teaching has been through creating interesting learning and study techniques that encourage further learning outside the tutor periods.

Tutoring Approach:

It is important that I understand the needs of the student and adapt the teaching methods to their needs. A flexible approach will allow the student to develop an understanding of what they enjoy about the subject and therefore can direct effort and time accordingly. Enthusiasm and interesting teaching methods are especially important in areas where confidence is lacking and positive feedback is as much a vital part of learning as constructive criticism.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified teacher of modern languages who combines bringing up a family with teaching French. I developed my love for languages from an early age. Coming from a bilingual home background I appreciate how language learning is an integral part of a child's development. My experience training in French Immersion education in Alberta, Canada has also added to my understanding of language acquisition and language learning.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified French teacher with over fifteen years teaching experience. I have taught MFL in both primary and secondary schools from Early Years/Foundation Stage to GCSE level and beyond. I have run after school French clubs for primary school children and have also taught French to adults in Adult-Ed evening classes.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a distinctive approach to language teaching which strives to develop the confidence and creative skills of language learners in the four key areas of language learning by employing a variety of teaching strategies depending on the age and preferred learning style of each student.
Firstly I try to get to know my students, and establish what they already know and can do in the target language.
Then we build on their strengths while at the same time identifying areas of weakness that need to be worked on.
Study is organised taking into consideration the aims of the student and the intended length of study. I provide homework at the end of each lesson with follow-up advice and guidance on each piece of work. Preparation for examinations is systematic, concentrating on topics and language tasks specific to examination requirements.
Above all I endeavour to impart to my students a life-long love for language learning.

Personal Description:
I am a native speaker of Chinese. I have National Teaching Certificate/Qualification.
two years teaching experience in a multicultural context (an international school) has helped me in the professional growth. I believe that learning a new language is not just acquiring a language itself, learning the local culture also plays an important role . I would like to share Chinese culture with you and explore other cultures as well.
I am a quite patient, easy-going, and dedicated person. Therefore, you won't feel frustrated to start speaking Chinese. If you are interested in Chinese culture and language, and looking for an easy learning, I am your best choice. I hold a bachelor degree of Education. I have also been trained how to be a teacher at my work (QSI international school)

Teaching Experience:

2011-2013: Chinese teacher in an international school (QSI Chengdu)

English tutor

Tutoring Approach:

An easy learning is a teaching methodology I am keen to. you will feel learning Chinese can be easy and fun too.

Many teachers only focus on the teaching of the form (grammar rules) and forget to teach the functional and pragmatical use of the language. Therefore, many learners might feel that they have been learning Chinese for a while, but are still unable to use it properly. In order to learn pragmatically, I will balance language form and function in my teaching. I will help you acquire Chinese language gradually instead of learning it by rote.
