Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified teacher of German and Spanish who enjoys her job and I am happy to help anyone with their language learning. I graduated with languages and pursued a teaching career and I am now working as a teacher of Modern Languages in a secondary school.

Teaching Experience:

My tutoring career began while I was at university and it has been part of my professional life ever since. I have extensive experience of one-to-one and small group tutoring and I have a thorough knowledge of the Scottish school curriculum including arrangements for Standard Grade, Higher and Advanced Higher exams.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring is a great way of learning a language because you benefit from full attention of your tutor. I plan and deliver my lessons to be communicative and a source of natural conversations as much as possible. However, I find correct grammar, punctuation, pronunciation and spelling as important as speaking and I do everything possible within my role as a tutor to develop all these skills appropriately.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced and qualified tutor - I have a mathematics PhD and have been tutoring at all levels (from GCSE through to undergraduate) for over a decade. I believe any student can become strong in maths with good tuition and a little work.

I'm also the author of Basic Maths For Dummies and Numeracy Tests For Dummies, and working on several more titles in the For Dummies range.

"I am planning on recommending Colin's tutoring to any of my friends who need help. He was patient and made the material easier to understand despite the fact that I hadn't taken math in years. I got a great grade too!"
- MC, Utah

Teaching Experience:

* Started tutoring GCSE maths while doing A-levels
* Tutored through university career
* Have always been complimented on my ability to make difficult ideas simple without patronising

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to encourage students to look at problems methodically and to help understand the ideas behind the theory by using simple, real-world examples. I teach that it's not just getting the right answer that is important, but understanding how you got there and knowing that the answer is right.

Lessons take place either online or at my classroom in Ashley Cross. Classes in your home are also possible, but there's a travel surcharge of at least 7 depending on where you are.

Personal Description:
Hello! I am 37 years old, originally from Denmark and moved to the UK 12 years ago for my degree. Before teaching, I worked as a monkey veterinary technician in the US, conducted my Masters research on crop-raiding macaques in Indonesia, and helped to run a volunteer expedition in the Amazon. After a couple of years of teaching in secondary school as a Science and Spanish teacher, I heard the call of the wild again and travelled for a year through Mexico and Central America. I am now working for an independent school in the Rochdale area and have gained experience tutoring a wide range of subjects and a wide range of ages.

I have an up to date enhanced CRB.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my teaching degree in 2007 at Canterbury Christ Church University. I trained in two very different types of schools, private Catholic school and selective high school, which gave me the experience to engage students of different abilities and backgrounds. I also received training to teach EAL and SEN students. My teaching qualification is in Science, but as a fluent Spanish linguist I have also taught Spanish to both adults and children. I teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics up to GCSE level, and other subjects I currently teach include Maths up to GCSE level and English up to Key Stage 3.

Tutoring Approach:

Students, young and old, don't like subjects they don't think they can succeed in. My approach is to break down material, relate it to everyday life and interests, and positively reinforce all the way to build up confidence. I am stubborn (!) and I don't give up until it's mastered.

Personal Description:
I am a friendly and passionate graduate from Oxford University with a love for languages. Having achieved a first class degree in French and Linguistics, I am keen to pass on my knowledge and love of language and literature to other students. I completed a research Masters in West African French literature, and am currently pursuing my studies in the second year of my doctorate whilst also developing my teaching experience. I hold a TEFL qualification and have taught a wide range of students in France, Brazil and the UK.

Teaching Experience:

TEFL teaching:
- Beginner and Intermediate classes at International House London as part of training. Highly commended.
- Part of a student-led initiative in Oxford to teach English to low wage workers. We organised evening classes for international adult students of multiple levels of proficiency.
- Teaching experience in Wizard and ERTE schools in Bahia, Brazil.
- Private tutoring for GCSE student as well as adults learning French.
- English tandem learning with advanced adult learner from China: conversational and written English.

British council:
- English teacher for 11-16 year olds in Laval, France in 2009-10. Planned and delivered English lessons focussed on speaking and listening, current affairs, and reading skills.

Warwick University:
- Teaching first and second year students in French language and literature as part of my PhD.

Primary school:
- Teaching assistant 2006-7 in Garden House School, London. Prepared and assisted lessons for year 1 pupils, as well as organising timetables and caring for students. Involved some special needs assistance.

Youth work:
- Worked as part of two youth work teams over 3 years to organise activities and teach teenagers aged 15-19.

Mentoring:
- Reading programmes with younger students struggling with English language.
- Advised and assisted GCSE and A-level students in preparation for exams and applying for higher education.

Tutoring Approach:

Depending on the individual needs of each student, I will prepare a range of tasks to build confidence in specific areas of weakness. From past experience, a lack of confidence is one of the biggest barriers to learning, so in all cases I seek to reassure a student of existing strengths and abilities before and during our tuition. More generally, we will develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills through different activities to strengthen and accelerate ongoing language learning. Where appropriate/desired, I will bring in relevant texts and materials to develop broader reading building up analytical and critical skills. Grammar work will always feature, though in well-balanced chunks which aim to be accessible AND enjoyable!

Most importantly, I hope to inspire students of any level to relish and enjoy their studies, and to yearn for a more solid grasp of their subject and a higher proficiency in each area of language learning.

One of my most recent tutees was offered a scholarship to a private school, having come to me from the bottom of his class in English. I also have experience as a play specialist on a London paediatric unit, so have worked with a wide range of children.

Tutoring Approach:

I work very well with children and have also worked with adults with learning difficulties. My previous experience has allowed me to develop a patient approach to teaching as I feel it is important for the student (whatever age) to gain enthusiasm and confidence in their subject, something which is often overseen in the school class room and in adult education.

I do provide homework, but not so much that it interferes with other studies.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate of the University of Glasgow, holding a First Class MA in English Literature and Film and Television Studies. In addition to my degree, I was also awarded the Robert W. Service Prize and the James Boswell Bursary, both granted for academic excellence.
In addition to my academic achievements, I am also a widely published author of novels and short stories, with books available in all good bookshops. In keeping with my passion for film and television, I am a photographer, filmmaker and live performer, and write articles on media developments in Scotland for print and online publications.

Teaching Experience:

I have five years' experience teaching English, Film & TV, Media and reading and writing skills to pupils of all ages and backgrounds.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to keep pupils engaged with and interested in the subject at hand, as too often it is far too easy to alienate students with excessive rote and routine. I am also a great believer in treating each of my students as an individual, as opposed to adopting a "one-size-fits-all" approach dependent solely on set texts and a given curriculum. Whilst bearing these restrictions and final examinations in mind, I can help students to think laterally and imaginatively, hopefully concluding their studies without having developed a loathing for the subject in question!
I really enjoy teaching: I am passionate about giving something back from my own learning experiences and hope I can be of some help to those who may need a bit of extra guidance.

Personal Description:
I am a 22 year old graduate from the University of Sheffield with a 2.1 degree in Psychology.I am a friendly person with a strong academic background who enjoys helping people in areas they are struggling in, and seeing them through until they are confident in themselves.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored many people over the past 4 years, ranging in ages and academic ability. I am proud to say that every person I have tutored has improved by at least one grade. My greatest achievement was with my first ever tutee who came to me on an E grade, and with my help was able to get a high B in her English A level. I have alot of experience helping children pass the 11+.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to create a calm and comfortable environment for the tutee. I try to make the learning of the particular area enjoyable and try to use effective methods that were used on me as I was learning, incorporated with other ideas I have, to ensure that the tutee learns as much as possible in the time I am with them. I also make a conscious effort to get to know each tutee well, so that I can cater my skills specifically to them and their individual needs in order for them to do as well they possibly can.

I`m a fourth year medical student currently studying at Imperial College. I studied the International Baccalaureate (IB) for my sixth form, but have a lot of experience of teaching the A-level curriculum as well.

Teaching Experience:

I have three years of experience in one-to-one tutoring both biology and chemistry, for GCSE, A-level as well as for IB-students. I also teach GCSE maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I`m a very cheerful and enthusiastic person - and I like to think I know how to motivate people to pushing their boundaries and challenging themselves. The students I`ve taught previously have all succeeded very well in their exams, and often commented that I explained the concepts to them better than their own teachers. I think my commitment and passion to teaching in the past makes me a good candidate to teach the subjects I`ve specified.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name's Josh. I'm an English tutor currently living and teaching in Cardiff, and also online (via skype). I'm passionate about teaching, but in my spare time I also like exercising, walking, cycling, reading, listening to music, going to the cinema, cooking and travelling. I also have a passionate interest in different cultures, history and current affairs.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching English in 2008, in Cambodia where I worked as a volunteer, teaching children in a local school project in Sihanoukville.
I had another wonderful opportunity to develop my teaching skills and work overseas in 2011, when I moved to South Korea to teach children in two different schools in Daejeon.
I moved back to the UK about a year and a half ago, and taught adults from overseas at Cardiff and Vale College for 10 weeks, as part of my CELTA studies course (please see qualifications below). In June 2012 I successfully completed a short-term contract at Peartree Languages, and have since been working as a private English tutor in Cardiff, with a clientelle of all levels, ages and ethnicities, stretching all across the city.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe passionately in putting my students first, and tailor my lesson preparations for each student according to his or her individual needs.
Students are initially assessed in one hour- where I methodically analyse each skill and knowledge area (grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking {fluency and cultural appropriacy}, reading, writing and pronunciation). I then make professional recommendations based on the test results, and also ask each student if they would like to focus on any particular subjects or skills. I do not insist on doing anything that my students do not want to do. My view is that lessons should always benefit and please the student. I provide all of my own lesson materials and do not charge extra for making them.
My teaching approach is always highly organized and professional, and focused on the student, encouraging them to self-correct through careful elicitation where errors occur, and explaining the reasons for corrections where they occur. I teach all levels and welcome all ages, ethnicities and physical abilities.
I also offer exam practice for BULATS, PET, IELTS, TOEIC and TOEFL if required, and can help to prepare students for work and academic-related situations too.

Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Jorge, I am from Spain but currently I am living in London. I am very friendly, patient and very good-worker. I have just finished my degree in Economics and I would like to study a course of International Commerce in the future and this is the reason why I am in UK improving my level of English, apart from that I love London and English culture.

Teaching Experience:

During my degree, I spent one year in Chili with an interchange program. There I used to teach Spanish to other foreign students like me from US and Italy.

Tutoring Approach:

I have different ways of teaching Spanish (vocabulary and grammar exercise). However, what I used to do most is speak with the student introducing the vocabulary studied and using different grammar sentences.

Personal Description:
I am a second year Physics with Astrophysics student at the University of York. I am a confident, mature individual who is driven to be successful. I have a down to earth personality which will make me more relatable and easier to pass on my breadth of knowledge.

Teaching Experience:

The only experience I have with students was in my second year of college. In collaboration with the Maths department, I ran a peer mentoring session with first years every week. This was an hour long meeting in the library or a classroom with 5-6 students, where I would help them with topics they struggled with or go over some details from their lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

I think the most important and effective way of learning is through practice of the subject. I would use the first part of a session to go over some important points to a topic and teach basic skills. Then put these into practice, going through questions, aided and unaided, including past paper questions.

Personal Description:
I'm a 22-year-old Physics graduate from Cambridge University living in South London. I studied Natural Sciences (specialising in Physics in the final two years) and attained a high 2.1 in my finals in May 2014. I went to school at Alleyn's Independent School in South London where I was School Captain and an academic scholar. I attained 10 A*s at GCSE, 4 A*s at A level (in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths) and 5 As at AS level (in the above subjects and English). I taught myself the A2 Further Maths syllabus and got full marks in Chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

I've worked regularly as a tutor over the last four years and have approximately 200 hrs of lesson experience. I have taught 9 students, aged 8-18, for longer than six months and can provide multiple references. Previous tuition has included;

GCSE Mathematics (Foundation and Higher) & Sciences, A-level Maths, Further Maths & Chemistry, 11+ Entrance and Oxbridge Applications.

Tutoring Approach:

The thing that makes one-on-one tutorials more effective than a group lesson is the potential for them to be student led. I try not to talk too much but instead favour practicing questions (particularly in mathematics) and getting the student to explain topics with a view to pin-pointing gaps in understanding. This way I add to what the student already knows rather than lecturing on what they may already understand.

I try and vary the sessions, particularly with younger students, in order to maintain concentration levels throughout. For example, in GCSE maths and science lessons I will try to work in a quiz mid-way through the lesson to avoid boredom.

More generally, I like to conduct relaxed and informal lessons because I think a student is far more likely to learn when they are not stressing.

Personal Description:
I am a degree educated tutor with over 5 years working in industry. I enjoy tutoring all subjects, but specialise in Maths, IT, History, Economics and Business Studies. Living in between Blackheath, Lewisham and Greenwich, I am happy to travel up to 10 miles to tutor, as I believe that by igniting interest in education, each child can reach their full potential in every subject.

Teaching Experience:

I have been in childcare and education for over 10 years, including experience as a Tutor, Sunday School Teacher, Activities Assistant and Nanny

Tutoring Approach:

Each child learns in a different way, and this is definitely true for each subject. From Humanities to Mathematics based subjects, I like to teach cause and effect methods to try and help the student to truly understand the subject, not just learn it for an exam.

Personal Description:
I am a young full time, female PE teacher who has a 2.1 BA (Hons) degree in Sport and Social Science from the University of Bath. I qualified as a PE teacher for 11-18 years and completed my PGCE through the University of East Anglia. I also have a Masters Degree in Advanced Educational Practice; also achieved through the University of East Anglia. I love my job and particularly enjoy the theory aspects of PE.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience extends across 3 secondary schools. These include 2 local high schools in Suffolk as well as an extremely successful all girls grammar school in Southend. Currently I work in a large 11-18 school just outside of Ipswich. I am consistently judged as an outstanding teacher and am passionate about teaching and learning as well as my subject of PE. I am familiar with different exam boards and have privately tutored for about 6 months.

Tutoring Approach:

As an adaptable teacher I will adapt my tutoring to suit the needs of the pupil. My experience suggests however that the most effective, and preferential approach is to teach pupils aspects of their course through explanation, structured questioning, past exam questions and application as a written task and/or as a discussion. Essentially I aim to install self-assurance and knowledge into pupils so they feel able to answer all exam questions with confidence and correctly.

Please contact me to discuss additional mileage costs if you would prefer me to travel to you. Essentially I charge an additional 0.45p per mile from IP17. However, depending on the time of the session (particularly weekday evenings) this may instead be from IP5.
