Personal Description:
My name is Julia and I am 22 years old. I have just started the fourth year of my MSci Astrophysics degree at University College London.

I completed 5 A-Levels (Maths, French, Physics, Chemistry and General Studies) at King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls in Birmingham, receiving 3 A grades (Physics, French, General Studies) and 2 B grades (Maths, Chemistry). I have a keen interest in the languages as well as the sciences, and at GCSE I received 9 A* grades and 4 A grades, so am able to teach a very wide spectrum of subjects confidently. Feel free to message me if you need a particular subject that I haven't mentioned - I've probably studied it at some level!

Teaching Experience:

I have previous experience tutoring for both Physics and French GCSEs whilst I was at secondary school, and in the last 4 years I have taught nearly 20 different students aged from 7 to 18 years in a wide range of subjects.

Primary Years;
Humanities (History, Geography, RS)
French & Spanish
Maths
Science
English
11+ Entrance Exams

Secondary;
Maths
English
Combined Science
Separate Sciences

(I have also taught these extensively at GCSE level)

A-Level;
Maths
Physics

I also hold a current CRB check which I would be happy to provide for you.

I am looking for students to teach ideally at the weekends but Wednesdays and Fridays are also available. I also have great babysitting experience as I was a nanny for three very young girls for a year, so if you need a combination of a babysitter and someone who can help with homework, then that's me!

Tutoring Approach:

I hope to encourage more people, girls in particular, to take an interest in the sciences and study them at a higher level, and after my degree I plan to begin Teacher Training and hopefully teach the Sciences at secondary school level. I am a relaxed, bubbly tutor whose main aim is to get students genuinely interested in their studies - I find that this is really important for continued academic success and is the reason I'm so passionate about becoming a science teacher.

Parents of my students consistently describe me as responsible and approachable, and are constantly recommending me to their friends. Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions - I pride myself on being friendly and flexible with my availability. Please also note the prices listed on my profile are slightly negotiable - if you live nearby or can commit to more than one lesson a week I'd be more than happy to discuss a slight reduction with you.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced and enthusiastic tutor with a great love of languages, ancient and modern. I have two degrees: a BA from the University of Bristol taken in 1981, and then over 20 years later an MA from UCL. Both degrees contained a significant Classical language component and I am familiar with all the major authors. My first degree also included Italian and I have subsequently studied at the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in London.

Teaching Experience:

- Private tutor with a wealth of experience across all age groups - my students/tutees have ranged in age from 12 to 75. I have coached for exams (CE, GCSE, A level, university exams), with excellent results for my students, and I have tutored adult learners who have come to me for a variety of reasons: some relocating to Italy, others wanting to speak a bit of Italian on holiday, and some who fancy reading Virgil or Cicero in the original Latin.
- Tutor in adult education, currently teaching Italian, Latin, Ancient Greek and Roman History in West Sussex.
- Tutor at The London Summer School in Classics.
- Tutor at a leading university, taking undergraduate seminar classes.

Tutoring Approach:

The key to successful tutoring lies in tailoring the content of the classes to the student's needs and objectives. For GCSE, a rigorous approach may be required to ensure that grammar and vocabulary is assimilated, whereas an adult learner of Latin or Greek may want to progress quickly to adapted text, or with Italian, to be able to converse a little on holiday. Whatever the case, I think learning or revision should be fun, and I aim to make my lessons as enjoyable as possible, whilst keeping a close eye on exam deadlines!

Personal Description:
Does your child struggle with maths or English? Are they falling behind at school?
Do they need a confidence boost?
Maybe they need preparation for SATs or 11+?

I specialise in helping children who are struggling, and over the past few years have achieved some excellent results!

My qualifications are as follows:
BEd Primary Qualified Teacher Status (subject specialism English) (2003)

British Dyslexia Association and Unicorn Maths- `Dyscalculia Plus` (2012)

I have a Masters in Education, completed this year. The modules I studied are as follows:
`Educational enquiry` (research in education) (2013)
`Investigating language in action`(supporting learners of English) (2012)
`Difficulties in literacy development` (specifically dyslexia) (2008)

BTEC National Diploma in Childhood Studies (Learning and development 0-8 years) (1999)

9 GCSE`s all A-C:
Child Development, English Literature, English Language, Mathematics, French, History, Religious Education, Science. (1997)

Teaching Experience:

My specialist subject is English and Special Educational Needs. I have attended courses on suitable methods to support dyslexic students, and recently completed a course with the British Dyslexia Association on how to assess and teach children with dyscalculia.

I taught in an inner city school for 8 years. Here, I gained experience with children aged 3-11, from different backgrounds and cultures, and with a wide variety of needs.
I have also worked with many children to overcome confidence and self esteem issues, resulting in much better performance in class.

As a tutor, I am currently working with children who have a range of needs. These include:
dyslexia
dyspraxia
dyscalculia (difficulty with maths)
self esteem or confidence issues
children who struggle at school due to emotional or behavioural problems
children who have missed school due to illness or special needs
I am also working with a number of children who are home schooled.

Over the past 3 years tutoring full time, my students have made excellent progress in terms of confidence, catching up with age-related expectations and achieving level 4 or 5 in Year Six SATs.

As well as teaching, I have worked in a variety of settings as a nursery nurse and nanny. I have been able to build excellent relationships with parents and children and am still in touch with families that I have worked with over the years.
In addition to face-to-face tuition, I have taught online, up to university level, supporting teacher training students with their studies and lesson planning.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very calm, patient and friendly approach to teaching. A child who is not relaxed and confident simply will not reach their full potential. I build excellent relationships with students, and they look forward to my lessons.
I like to vary my teaching sessions (depending on age) using, for example, direct teaching, problem solving, quizzes, practical `hands-on` activities, time for the child to ask questions. Children can find it hard to sit at a desk for an hour or more, so I find that lots of short activities hold their interest and make them much more enthusiastic about learning.
I like to use technology in my teaching as there are some fantastic resources available that can really enhance learning. Also, using computers and other technological devices can really help get a child`s attention and make learning more fun!

Please contact me if you think I am the tutor you have been looking for.

Personal Description:
I have been doing nothing but one-to-one private biology tuition, based in Oxford, for the past 23 years and am widely regarded as 'Oxford's Premier Biology Tutor'. I am now offering my services online nationally and worldwide via the medium of 'Scribblar' - an interactive online whiteboard with sound that is just as good as face-to-face tuition. I charge £60 per hour for face-to-face tuition (which I am planning on phasing-out very soon if possible) but only £45 per hour for online tuition worldwide.

Teaching Experience:

23 years of one-to-one tuition in A-level, IB and GCSE biology.

Tutoring Approach:

Stick to the specification. Do ALL the past paper questions and go through them with the mark schemes. Take the exam. and get on with your life.

I like to work in a very methodical and structured fashion and not confuse effective work with hard work. The students who say at the end "yes, I learned biology - but, better still I learned how to study" are the ones with whom I know I have really succeeded.

All that you need to bring to tutorials is a thin A4 ring binder with a copy of the specification punched and put into the front and some colored dividers in the back. If you are a retake student I ask you to highlight the specification in yellow with solid highlighter if you are quite happy with the content; dotted highlighter if you are a bit unhappy with it and no highlighter if you have not done it or have forgotten it. This will tell me where to start and I can estimate to within an hour or so how many lessons will be needed to 'reteach' the syllabus. Effectively I write a textbook for you and give you notes (to be filed in the colored dividers) to fill in any gaps in your knowledge. As I cover the specification I highlight it in pink so that you (and your parents) can see progress. I have CDs of questions that you can work through - each CD is specific to one exam. board and contains not only the most recent AS/A2 papers and mark schemes but also the preceding 19 years of papers for that board, chopped up into topic headings. So, for example, it will take an hour to 'cover' The Heart and then I'll give you the questions specifically on the heart on that board to do before the next tutorial. I will mark it in my own time and write in the missing key words. It is all very straightforward and actually rather less hard work than doing it in a slapdash, non-systematic fashion. The study skills that you will learn will stand you in good stead throughout life.

I can also advise on coursework/practicals.

Although I live near Bicester I have teaching premises in North Oxford where I work weekdays until late.

Personal Description:
Currently based in Lancaster I qualified as a solicitor in 2000, and spent 12 years in private practice specialising in criminal law both in Newcastle upon Tyne and Lancaster. I am a qualified duty solicitor and higher courts advocate (criminal). This year, I decided to pursue a long-held ambition to teach English at secondary level, and have now embarked upon the 2nd year of a degree in English Literature. However, I have retained a current practising certificate and continue to keep up to date with developments in the law.

Teaching Experience:

I have no formal teaching qualifications, however I do have experience of mentoring and tutoring people of varying ages and backgrounds. I have a good understanding of both the GCSE and AS and A2 syllabuses and have a wealth of practical experience to draw upon.

Tutoring Approach:

I am friendly and approachable, and will tailor lessons to individual needs. I am happy to complement work being done at school or to reinforce particular areas of weakness. I like to meet all tutees before the first lesson so that we can get to know one another and I can prepare suitable materials. Homework can be given if a tutee feels it would be beneficial.

Personal Description:
I am a recent graduate from the University of Leicester in Mathematics. I am passionate about teaching, not just because I am enthusiastic about my subjects, but because I am driven to help people reach their full potential, and achieve what they strive for in life. Education is the key to success in many ways, and I am eager to give people the best I have, in order to see them achieve. My hobbies are to travel and find out about many different cultures. I love to learn new languages and understand life from different perspectives. As a keen traveller myself, I love to hear about life in different countries, as well as teaching about my own culture and lifestyle, hence why I became a qualified teacher of English as a Foreign Language.

Teaching Experience:

For the last 5 years, I have tutored Children from ages 9-16 in Mathematics, preparing them for exams such as GCSEs, or assisting them with their difficulties in order to help the progress to the level of their classroom or their desired level. I have also assisted in Mathematics lessons in my local Secondary School.
I have taught English as a Foreign Language in Malawi, Tanzania, Brazil and England. This has been a variety of ways such as: working in student's homes, at a local cafe, in Primary/Secondary schools, and in an orphanage.

Tutoring Approach:

English as a Foreign Language can be taught according to your needs i.e. it may be conversational, it may be written, it may be providing listening material etc. Depending on your needs, this may be performed online via Skype or google+, simply via email where we can have instant chat, or depending on where you and your needs we can arrange lessons where we meet in person.
Mathematics is a more practical subject, where I would need to teach the theory before setting exercises to find out the problems of the student before addressing those problems in order to see the children develop and achieve progress in that area. Mathematics lessons are best produced in person, however if necessary online lessons could be arranged.
I am willing to change material, and be flexible with my methods of teaching depending on the age and academic level of each individual student.

As a mature bilingual (Russian native) person with degrees in Business, Chemistry, IT, completed in different countries with reach experience in teaching at different levels from the nursery to adult.
I am looking to pursue a new challenge in a position where motivation comes from significant and visible improvements in your status and visible, clear performance targets.

Teaching Experience:

I have teaching experience in Chemistry, Maths, Physics, Biology, Russian. But I do prefer to teach Maths or Russian.
As a teacher I use diffident techniques or methods (depends from the age, level of schooling, etc) to raise confidence with the chosen subject and draw the best abilities from a student.

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in a subject. My approach varies depending on the student's requirements and learning style. My teaching style is based on inspiring students to think for themselves, using real-world examples where possible. I begin from topics the students are comfortable with and move increasingly towards more complex areas as their self-confidence builds. I use questions and homework to check understanding constantly.

Personal Description:
Ex financial advisor with a degree in Civil Engineering an inbuilt passion for Maths who after the birth of my son finally after years of contemplation decided to train to become a secondary school maths teacher.

Teaching Experience:

Currently working exclusively in the maths department at a comprehensive in Cardiff as a learning support assistant. My roles include teaching intervention groups of up to 6 students from years 7,8 and 9 key stage 3. The rest of my time is focused on key stage 4 students to help them secure a C or above on upcoming GCSE exams, this is either on a one to one basis or in groups. Also conduct after school classes twice a week for year 11 students again looking to guarantee GSCE grades of C and above.

Tutoring Approach:

I find a relaxed confidence building approach works well for me and I already tutor a couple of students in the Cardiff area who have enjoyed significant improvements with their work. Its very important to me that students have a sound foundation when it comes to maths, not just for exams but also for life in general and a full understanding is essential. For key stage 3 students having access to resources such as Big Maths and Can Learning allows me once areas of weaknesses have been identified to quickly plug any gaps they may have. For key stage 4 students with access to numerous GCSE past papers once the understanding is there its a case of knowing how to answer types of exam questions depending on the exam board they are working under.

I have particular experience in the Russian language, with the added benefit of having learnt it as a non-native speaker (so I know what that's like!). As well as studying it for the last 10 years for GCSE, A-level and now my university degree at Cambridge I have also spent a considerable amount of time over the past few years in different parts of Russia and the Ukraine living among Russian friends and doing independent travel.

Teaching Experience:

I've been an assistant at both primary and secondary schools in departments of Art and Russian. I am currently tutoring GCSE maths at Dunraven school with the charity Action Tutoring. I also have younger sisters who I've helped through both GCSEs and A-levels in a number of subjects!

Tutoring Approach:

Flexible according to personal needs of each individual student.

Personal Description:
I am presently working for a Phd in Physics at Cavendish Labs (University of Cambridge). I work broadly in the area of condensed matter physics and do experiments at subKelvin temperatures with a view to understand the phenomenon of superconductivity. I have a great interest to understand the way nature works at the microscopic scale. When I am not doing physics or maths I spend my time traveling around, playing table tennis, watching movies and reading books.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught students from very young age to first year undergraduates. I have taught Maths and Physics courses at Reach Cambridge program to final year school students. I have also supervised Part1A quantum mechanics and special relativity courses.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to make concepts as physical as possible so that one can grasp them easily. At the same time I emphasize rigor and abstract approach as well. Certain amount of abstraction helps in tackling or understanding certain problems or concepts. Its is a good balance between both that I find is crucial to the best understanding of the subject.

Personal Description:
I am French but lived most of my life in South America, so Spanish became my first language. I work currently as a Service Improvement Consultant, and before this I worked for the automotive industry (over 25 years). I have worked for a few months giving Spanish lessons to adults which I enjoyed very much but the franchise is closing so I would like to continue teaching Spanish.

Teaching Experience:

I worked for a University in South America, giving subjects as Management, Lean and Continuous Improvement, HR subjects amongst others and my students were under and post graduated students. I worked as a tutor for dissertations for both. I gave work experienceto under graduate students in small and médium sized enterprises and I realised that I miss very much this contact with students and I would love to work with students either teaching spanish or helping university students with any subjects related to Spanish.

Tutoring Approach:

I will always have a plan for clases but I like to challenge students and let them come out with their own ideas on:
- what is of their interest,
- what are their needs and
- what is the pace they want to follow in the learning process.

I would ask them to practice what was given in class and they would record their own learning and conversation and will share it in class.

I would do some review of what was learned in the previous lesson alongside their homework to re enforce the learning .

I can be demanding but more in the challenging way I mentioned before.

Students have expressed they like my approach and that they learned fast and easily.

Personal Description:
I am a 16 year old student, finishing my GCSE courses this summer. Currently, I am studying Art, French, Spanish, History and Additional Mathematics, as well as all compulsory subjects (Mathematics, English Language and Literature, Biology, Chemistry and Physics). I am a highly competent student, and am predicted all A* (with an exception of an A for add. Maths, as it is the highest one can get) and I would love to pass my knowledge onto younger children and those of my own age.
I know the requirements of the Edexcel iGCSE syllabuses for Maths, French, Spanish and Russian and I am willing to adapt that knowledge to the requirements of other exam boards.

I am an outgoing, energetic and bubbly person and I am passionate about languages. I enjoy reading and visiting museums in my spare time, as well as drawing and playing piano.

Teaching Experience:

Although I do not have any experience in private tutoring, I have been teaching young children how to horse ride for the past two years at a children's riding school (Aescwood Farm).
I also volunteer at Little St Helen's (Nursery, Reception and year 1 section at my own school) every week and I can easily say that this is a highly rewarding and enjoyable experience.
I also help my eleven year old sister with her French assignments, which include writing letters to her French penpal.

Tutoring Approach:

When tutoring a child, I will try to find out their strengths and weaknesses, so I will be able to push them to the best of their ability. However, I will adapt a friendly and fun approach to teaching and I will also try to find out the preferred manner of learning, which I find very important. For example, visual learners like me will find it easier to retain information if it is presented in a clear, colourful way., e.g. posters or colourful post-it notes.
I also think it's very important to reach an agreement with the tuttee, so that learning and teaching can be done in a friendly, pleasant manner. I want to make learning easy and fun for children (the wish is based solely on my experience), making them understand that learning is not always boring!

Maths:
I understand that some people find it difficult to understand basic concepts of Maths, which are a key to basic education in Mathematics. I will try to explain these concepts in a very accessible manner and then consolidate them via doing various exercises and practise papers.

Languages:
I think it is important to have a balance between written and oral work, as both aspects are equally important when learning any language. For primary/KS3 tuttees, I would suggest learning through completing worksheets and exercises after looking at a particular vocabulary or grammar section. Of course, this method can be adapted to the preferences of the tuttee.
At GCSE level, the knowledge of the syllabus is essential, so we will equip ourselves with mark schemes, syllabus requirements and examiner reports to gain a better understanding of what exactly is required in the exam. Then we will practice all the necessary exam skills (reading, listening, speaking and writing), along with learning vocabulary, A* expressions and grammar. (I am only able to offer GCSE level tutoring in French and Russian).
I believe that real knowledge of a language at a communicative/fluent level is extremely important, even when only preparing for an exam. I will put as much emphasis as possible on pronounciation and expression, to make the tuttee's language sound natural. I also recommend reading books, short stories or even comics in a required language, as this really helps expand the understanding of the language, its vocabulary and grammatic structures.

This experience helps me to provide a unique teaching experience to enable my students to achieve excellence in their work.

Tutoring Approach:

I firmly believe learning needs to be fun, relaxed and enjoyable but seriously focused on the key outcomes that the learner needs to achieve to make progress with his/her studies. The time spent on understanding the student, their learning style and how they perceive their academic challenges is critical to my success. My experience both of the academic and the business worlds has served to support this imaginative approach.

Whether you need an essay plan or model essay/essay writing techniques or long-term tuition to support learning, I offer that. Just contact for a no-obligation exploratory discussion to map out your needs.

Personal Description:
A first year Oxford Double Degree History student and double academic and music scholar. I was taught music at the Royal College of Music for over a decade. I am hard working, diligent and will always put my students first.

Teaching Experience:

Experience mainly tutoring younger children, but have done small ad-hoc pro bono tutoring sessions for older children. I specialise in both English and History tutoring, and I can tutor any book or any period for you child. Maths I will be willing to tutor up to GCSE at the most, given the board, and my music and sociology tutoring information can be provided at further request.

Tutoring Approach:

I specialise at being able to tutor online: I feel this means students can maintain studying in an environment they feel comfortable in. Another benefit is that I can document all tutoring sessions - part of me services mean that I will copy up transcripts of all the sessions for both you and your child - this means you do not need to worry about sessions being missed. To ensure you get the most out of my time, I offer my services in blocks of 5 or 10: this means that I can thoroughly cover subjects. For example, if you require emergency tutoring with a book, 5 sessions would enable me to efficiently cram topics, whilst 10 would enable me to go through this more thoroughly with you or your child. How I tailor your blocks of 5 or 10 can be discussed between both you, me, and your child. For documentation purposes, I believe typing during the online sessions can be maximally beneficial: both the child can see what i'm writing, whilst you as the parents can see exactly what is being discussed. However, if you would like me to use voice calling as well as video calling, this is no problem either.
