Personal Description:
I am a dynamic tutor who aims to inspire, stimulate and motivate.

I have three years of tutoring experience in both primary and secondary English. I graduated with a double first in History from Queen Mary, University of London. Since then I have worked in communication and copywriting for two major charities, and am currently a freelance writer and voiceover artist for children's television.

I am academically highly qualified, creative and imaginative, and dedicated to bringing out the very best in all my students.

Teaching Experience:

I have over three years of tutoring experience in primary and secondary English, from five years upwards.

Tutoring Approach:

For me, it is most important that a student feels confident and comfortable as a basis for progressing academically. I aim to put students at ease and help them believe in themselves, ultimately working towards reaching their full potential.

I believe that learning should be fun and enjoyable as well as challenging and thorough.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced and skilled Tutor of French, Russian and English as a foreign language. I have been tutoring continuously for 6 years, typically working with 6 or 7 students at any one time. I have spent several years living and working abroad, so this has given me quite an international outlook. At the same time, I am quite well-travelled within the UK and have a good understanding of English history, culture and customs. As a native speaker of English, I have an excellent grasp of the English language, particularly in terms of grammar, spelling and pronunciation.

I am fair-minded, accepting of the needs of others, multi-culturally sensitive and take genuine pride in the quality of my work and going the extra mile wherever possible.

Teaching Experience:

I possess the PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) and am qualified to teach in Secondary Schools in the United Kingdom. I have four years experience of teaching English as a Foreign Language, and have taught the English as a Foreign Language curriculum at all levels, from elementary to advanced. I have taught a wide range of groups of both children, from the age of 11 upwards, and adults. I am particularly strong in teaching Business English to non-native speakers - I have redesigned and delivered an Advanced Level Business English Course for Masters Degree level students, I have worked with many private students of Business English on their premises, and have also successfully prepared students for the London Chamber of Commerce Exams in Business Communication.

I am very comfortable tutoring French up to A-Level Standard. I have myself lived in France for three years and have been educated in the French Education System up to Masters Degree level. I therefore have a very strong grasp of French language and culture which I love to share. I also actively use my French skills in my everyday employment, and am well used to interacting with French native speakers on a daily basis.

I am educated in Russian up to Bachelor's Degree level and have a similarly broad experience of practising and communicating in the Russian language, having spent five years living and working in Russian speaking countries. I am comfortable tutoring Russian up to A-Level Standard.

I have also delivered private lessons in order to prepare students for Private School entrance. I typically work with students on GCSE or A-Level preparation and have an excellent track record in delivering strong results in these areas. I have worked with family groups who were all keen to learn a foreign language together, as well as those seeking to learn for professional or business reasons, and both modes of tuition have also proved to be very rewarding for me. I prefer to build stable medium term teaching relationships, and retained one student for over 5 years, even if this meant my arriving dutifully every Saturday morning for our 9am class!

Tutoring Approach:

In a word: flexibility. I make every effort to really take on board and respond to the wishes of my clients. I am clear and proactive in communication regarding expectations and always seek to ensure mutual agreement with my students and parents as to setting realistic targets and the most appropriate learning strategies for their needs.

I am a great believer that learning should be fun and always seek to make my classes varied, challenging and stimulating, drawing upon as wide a range of learning skills and strategies as possible.

I have an excellent grasp of both spoken and written English, and am a strong believer in developing confidence in these areas through regular practice, setting realistic targets and offering plenty of praise and encouragement.

I prefer to work with individuals or smaller groups in a relaxed, purposeful atmosphere where there is plenty of tutor input or explanation as required, but also where students are given every opportunity to practise and develop newly acquired skills.

Personal Description:
I am an energetic and experienced English teacher and Assistant Head who strongly believes in building relationships with students that support their learning. I love travelling, literature (both classic and contemporary) and sports (especially football, rugby and cricket). Whatever level your daughter or son is at, I will make sure they progress to the next stage, whether that is excellent GCSE results, A Level results or entry to University.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently Assistant Head Teacher at Stoke College, near Sudbury, and have been teaching English for ten years. I have long experience in teaching and tutoring for students in Years 7-13, usually teaching AQA English Language and Literature GCSEs and OCR A Level. I have tutored students sitting different exam boards with great success, too. I began my teaching career at The Ashcombe School in Dorking, Surrey, before spending two years at Tiffin Girls' School, then the top ranked state school in the country, as Head of English. I have taught many students through to Oxford and Cambridge University entrance. I have taught Media Studies at A Level and my degree is Joint Honours History with English, so am always on hand to help with History or similar work.

Tutoring Approach:

I can give your child the support they need to build their confidence so they feel more able to complete school tasks, homework, coursework and exam revision. At exam level, I build on school work, revising techniques and consolidating the skills and topics learned so that students can reach their full potential in external exams. At the highest level, I will guide your son or daughter through textual annotations and literary study.

For students in Years 7-9, I have found it is often just as helpful to be able to assist and tutors in your son or daughter's full range of subjects, especially those that rely on written work, such as History, Geography and RE.

I bring an innovative and personalised approach to tutoring so your child never needs to feel that tutoring sessions are an extension of school; instead they are a way to look at English in a positive light so tutees can enjoy learning.

Personal Description:
I am a working actor and a recent Graduate of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Before going to drama school I went to The University of Nottingham where I achieved a first class degree in English Language and Literature. I am self-motivated, enthusiastic and passionate about Drama and English.

Teaching Experience:

I have recently worked as a Maths and English tutor with Explore learning. I taught Maths and English to children aged 4 - 14 of various abilities. I received training in the National Curriculum as well as current tutoring methods. I have a particular strength in preparing students for 11+ exams.

In Bristol I assisted on and led various Drama workshops including; introduction to Shakespeare, confidence building and audition technique.

Tutoring Approach:

I am friendly and enthusiastic with a proven record of working well with children. I believe that every child can benefit from one-on-one tuition; whether they need extra help with a subject they are struggling with or they would relish the challenge of extension work. Private tuition can give them the extra time they need to let difficult ideas settle and to encourage them to ask questions and push themselves further. Above all I will try to make every session fun, relaxed and positive. This is not 'school' but a opportunity to bring their learning to life.

Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2001 with a 2:1 in French Studies. During my 3rd year I lived in Montreal where I studied French, Spanish, and Italian at McGill University. After graduating I qualified as a Teacher of English as a Second Language and spent the next few years teaching English in the UK and Paris as well as travelling to Spain, where I lived for three months.
In 2005 I gained a PGCE in Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish) from The University of Bath. From 2005 to 2006 I taught in a variety of primary and secondary schools before taking a permanent post at Matravers School in Wiltshire, where I worked for five years and gained internal promotion to second in department in 2010. During my time at the school I prepared students for both GCSE and A Level exams.
I also led trips to both Paris and Barcelona to give students a taste of life in these countries and an opportunity to practise their language skills in real life situations.
I have been working as a private tutor since 2012 and also work as an examiner for both AQA and Edexcel, marking the writing component of the French and Spanish GCSE. I recently completed a Master's in Technical and Specialised Translation (with distinction) from the University of Westminster.

Teaching Experience:

I have five years experience of teaching French and Spanish in a permanent post and currently work on a casual basis in various secondary schools in the Barnet area. I have been working as private tutor since 2012.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe a positive working relationship between tutor and student is the cornerstone of a successful learning experience. I aim to make my students feel at ease and safe to take risks in order to build their confidence and experience success. I tailor-make lessons to each individual student's learning needs and preferences so that the student is always at the centre of the learning process. I use a range of materials in my teaching including online resources, worksheets, games, speaking activities, and past exam papers where appropriate.

Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Yulia. I am a native Russian speaker, fluent in English, graduated in the Russian Federation (Moscow) and worked there later on for over 10 years. For the last four years I have been living and working in the UK and this has allowed me to develop a better understanding of the English language, its cultural nuances, people and life. I was kindly surprised that there are people out there who are truly interested in learning Russian and therefore I felt that I could help them to learn one of the most difficult languages in an easy and affordable ways.
Every year I spend some time in Russia to maintain connection with the Russian language in the most effective way while enjoying company of my family and friends.

Teaching Experience:

If you are planning to learn Russian, you are certainly in the right place. Whether you are a beginner or can speak some Russian already, I will be delighted to help you to learn, improve or master your Russian.
As a Russian tutor I have an experience in teaching Russian both children and adults using the finest adapted educational materials for teaching and learning Russian language as a foreign at all levels. I use a large variety of textbooks with CD and DVD-supplement, training materials for the development of speech, writing, listening and reading comprehension skills, which helps to make the learning process as effective and productive as possible. I currently run a Russian group course for the beginners.
My degree in law and experience in teaching Russian ensures the quality of the final result- you are able to communicate in Russian. I will give full attention to your needs and wishes and provide you with a very honest and friendly service. Being based in the UK I am always easy to reach and deal with.

Tutoring Approach:

In order to make a learning process as interesting as possible I will prepare an individual language plan for you based on your own learning style and ability, language requirements, time commitment and any personal motivations you might have to learn Russian.
If you are learning Russian from scratch and want to become fluent, my aim is to help you to explore the language in its complexity straight from the beginning. From my experience grammar and vocabulary is a key to the successful learning process and ability to communicate with a great confidence but studying just grammar can be quite difficult or daunting, that is why a combination of audio, visual and interactive activities, which I try to integrate into my lessons, help to bring more fun and promising results.

Personal Description:
I am a successful local tutor and teacher with an MA in Education from Oxford Brookes University (2016), a Postgraduate Diploma in English and Language in Education from the University of Reading (2012). I also have a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Secondary - English) from Oxford Brookes University (2007) and a BA Hons in English Literature (2006). I am passionate about my subject and enthusiastic about improving both my pedagogical and subject knowledge. With A Level clients, I often re-read the key exam texts and exam specifications in order to deliver a successful tutorial. For GCSE, I am confident with multiple exam boards but, again, I take a sincere interest in changes to qualifications and specifications. I have recently led a team of ten teachers in our delivery of the GCSE English qualification through WJEC. Part of my role included observing good teaching practice and documenting this for staff appraisals.

Teaching Experience:

I have ten years experience of working in the state secondary sector as a Qualified English Teacher; teaching anything from Key Stage 3 (11 years - 14 years) up to Key Stage 5 (A Level) including GCSE. I currently teach GCSE and iGCSE English at a popular FE college for adults, returning to education, and for full-time learners aged 16+. In addition, I have previously worked as a Learning Support Assistant, at a Catholic primary school in Reading. I have also taught American children how to use movie editing packages, such as iMovie, in Maine, USA.

Tutoring Approach:

The rapport with the parent is as just as important as the tutee. In order to make a success of the tuition, it's paramount to have a good professional relationship with both. I use feedback from the tutee's parent (via a school report) and informal feedback from the tutee to create an Individual Tuition Plan which includes setting three clear targets. Depending on the key stage and ability of the tutee, this can range anything from parenthetic comma use to translating Chaucerian poetry!

Personal Description:
I have been a teacher of English for over 10 years and have worked in the UK, Japan, UAE, Qatar and Italy. This was a fantastic opportunity for me to experience different cultures and education. I worked in British International Schools that all followed the British Curriculum.
I have a great passion and enthusiasm for my subject and I love to share this with my students. I hope I can make a difference and help those who have potential but are currently lacking confidence and under achieving. With support they are able to meet their own expectations.

Teaching Experience:

An experienced English teacher of 9 years. In this time I have been head of department and KS3 Co-ordinator. I have a thorough knowledge of many examination boards and I have also been a marker. I have a good understanding of the curriculum and how to achieve the required levels/grades.

I have recently learned that the students I tutored last term (academic year 2014-2015) all gained C and above in English Language and Literature. This is a reflection of my input but more so the dedication and motivation of my tutees. I am very proud of their commitment and hard work.

Tutoring Approach:

I think tuition should not be thought of by the student as extra homework but more one of support and advice. It is the opportunity to have one to one lessons in a safe and comfortable environment. My approach is positive , tailored to the needs of each student and relevant.

Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Hertfordshire in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer and Network Technology. I then began working for an IT company as a computer technician, based within a local university, which gave me exposure to all sorts of IT problems! I then went on to run a chain of computer repair, maintenance and upgrade shops and have been doing this ever since.

I use ALL versions of Microsoft Windows from XP to Windows 8.1 daily, along with Apple Mac's OS X. My customers are approximately between 16 to 80 years of age, and I enjoy passing my knowledge on, no matter how technical / non-technical you are! I just need extra money to pay for my wedding next year, and this is something I know I can do very easily, as it is an extension of my day-to-day job. Please get in touch for a chat with me on how to "Excel" in IT... get it? You will after you've got in touch!

Teaching Experience:

- Teaching new employees on computer repair best-practices and teaching analysts on how to use and configure new software at work.

- Teaching my customers on what went wrong and how to avoid it in the future!

- Providing private tuition on PC / Laptop usage, from basic operation such as web browsing, email and document creation and editing, all the way up to securing a computer from virus's and creating basic websites and setting up domains, and MANY other things in between.

Tutoring Approach:

I love to see a student perform a task after using the knowledge that I've passed in a "follow my lead" based learning. I explain how things work the way they do (if you want to know), and I explain the logic sequence of steps you must take in order to do something such as search for a new recipe or compose an email to a friend. Once the basic knowledge is there, I'll take you through how to use Google to answer 90% of life's questions!

I like to use analogies with my explanations on certain tasks, as people learn differently. However, normally I go through what it is I'm trying to teach at least once before going through it again with my student in a thorough manner.

Devised and taught programmes in spoken language and literacy to children aged 4-8 who were falling behind their mainstream learning targets. Taught English as a Second Language.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student is an individual and learns in a different way. I like to work with the student to identify any blocks that are holding them back; we gain enormous satisfaction from us moving past these together.
I help students develop their confidence in their own abilities through achievement, and I find that this confidence helps them do better than they ever thought they would. The relationship between tutee and tutor is important and I find building trust is essential for success.

Personal Description:
As a child, I learned by being told, by beatings, shaming and a strict examination system. As you can imagine I didn't learn much that I could later apply to my academic life. As a result, I became an inveterate learner, always interested in learning the next thing. At one point, the drive to learn was because I didn't see myself as being good enough. Later on, that drive became an interest in discovering my own abilities as well as about helping others. I have now learned so much about how not to teach that I have gained good insight into how learning happens. I am keen to ensure all my learners learn how to learn and understand how to apply what they discover.

Teaching Experience:

My background is in teaching, training and facilitation. I have over 25 years experience of teaching in different forms having worked within primary, secondary and further education settings. I am an NVQ / TAQA assessor and trained and assessed Parenting Practitioners and other candidates up to Level 5 in Health & Social Care. I have specialist skills in Personal Effectiveness subjects such as Report Writing, Speed Reading, Presentation Skills.

Tutoring Approach:

Being a private tutor used to be the preserve of only those with the highest qualifications and the greatest experience. Now all that's changed.

However good a tutor is, the learner needs to be astute in order know if the tutor is a good match for her / him. Importantly, making the right choice can be complex.
Here are three tips to help you decide if I am or someone else is right for you. The following tips describe how I teach and how I will enable you to be an independent learner.

1. Look for a tutor who can teach you how to learn
Here's a funny thing… learners study a subject, sometimes for months and years and can come away with no long-term memory of the underpinning principles of the subject. As disturbing, they have no ongoing understanding of the subject. They are unable to apply what they tried to learn. This is easily resolved by clearing up past issues with learning. In Applied Scholastics it is now well known that if as a learner, you are helped to do so, you can learn any subject. This is central to how I teach.

2. Look for tutors who understand the main barriers to learning and can help you overcome them
There are three main barriers to study. They relate to confusion over an idea, missing out critical steps and having unclear ideas about the subject under study. Gaining a day to day facility with overcoming those barriers is key to effective and efficient study. I use these methods to help my own reading and study. I will introduce them to you so that you can use them too.

3. Look for tutors who can help you find the information you need so that you keep expanding your own understanding of the subject

Sometimes, a learner during a course of study will find that s/he wants to give up. Have you ever experienced this? Whenever that happens it is because there is something - an idea, a symbol, a form of punctuation, the use of a word, or something else - that you did not understand. Without the proper factual information on this and without the correct knowledge of why and how this happens, the learner will struggle. Without knowing what remedies to apply, the learner will give up.

When you study, you are investing time and energy. In this case, money too. If you want to discover more about how you learn, what your barriers to study are and how to understand more, you will benefit from being an independent learner. That will repay your investment.

Those three critical points should help you decide if I could be right for you. They briefly describe the way in which I would work with you and enable you to be an independent learner.
