Come to a session with an area you want to go over, a topic you don't understand or just some homework that you don't get. I promise you that no question will ever be too stupid, no matter how many times you think you have asked it before. We will go over it until we find a way that makes sense to you.

When you don't understand a topic, it is usually because there are some gaps in your knowledge further back - especially in subjects like maths and science. Personal Description:
As a school student, I was a confirmed hater of Science! I am still haunted by the drafty labs and memories of sitting in silence on wobbly stools taking notes from ancient text books and carrying out odd practicals with the ubiquitous Potato tuber. It wasn't until I started studying Science as an adult learner in an FE college, where I was taught by inspiring and enthusiastic lecturers, who illustrated important concepts with analogies, diagrams and genuinely interesting practicals, that I began to realise that science was relevant to me and was "my thing".

This experience has stayed with me and has given me a passion for making science exciting and largely the reason that I chose a career in personal tutoring.

I am a professional full-time private tutor. I have recently graduated with an MSc in Science (Medicinal Chemistry and science education studies). I have also graduated with a First class honours degree in Life Sciences (Open) and I have completed a Post-graduate Certificate in Professional Studies in Education, specialising in Science Education.

I specialised in A level and GCSE tuition and I have extensive experience working with a wide range of students, from those who are struggling and need help understanding the key concepts to those who do well in science but need support to develop the exam technique that will get them the top grades.

I have tutored students working towards exams with all the major exam boards, including AQA (AS, A2 Biology and Chemistry, GCSE core science, GCSE Additional Science, GCSE Biology and Chemistry), OCR (AS, A2 Biology and Chemistry, Salter's Chemistry, 21st Century Science GCSE), WJEC (A level Biology), EDEXCEL (AS and A2 Biology and Chemistry, GCSE, IGCSE)


I also have much experience working with students entering for exams as external candidates and I can provide assistance in making arrangements for this.

In my professional life prior to tuition, I was employed as a company trainer in the catering industry, working with newly employed staff on an individual basis to help them develop the skills and knowledge relevant to their new positions and training existing staff to take on more senior roles. This gave me extensive experience of one-to-one tuition and creating individual training strategies.

Tutoring Approach:

When I begin tutoring a new student, I spend some time getting to know the individual and we begin by discussing their current feelings about Science and what they would like to get out of the tutorial sessions. I also carry out an assessment of the individual's learning style (sounds scary, but it's not, it's just a short quiz). By discovering how the individual learns best, I can structure the tutorials so that they are composed of activities that will be both effective and enjoyable. In all cases, I endeavor to make Science enjoyable and relevant to the individual student as possible and tailor the explanations to their particular interests.

As well as providing subject-specific tuition, I place particular emphasis on the development of study and exam skills. Where relevant, this includes teaching essay writing skills, how to revise, how to approach exams and specific scientific skills, such as data analysis and evaluation, which are often assessed in course work. I also offer tutorial sessions which focus just on study skills, for those who are comfortable with their subject knowledge but need extra support in these areas.

As well as traditional face to face sessions, I also offer fully online lessons using skype and an interactive whiteboard which allows me to interact with students in the same way as in a face-to-face lesson. I believe that teaching is about personal connection with your students and interacting with them on their level rather than simply 'getting the job done'. I can teach someone how to do something and for them to copy my influence is something, however to teach someone to do it themselves without aid takes time to practice over and over certain techniques. I think a student should be taught from the ground upwards and to slowly neglect bad habits from the past. The student then can become versatile and highly skilled and more importantly 'satisfied' with their work and practice.

From my own experience, I believe that learning a new language is similar to opening a door into a world full of possibilities: traveling, getting a new job, meeting new people and, in general, becoming a stronger individual both personally and professionally. In my classes, I like to tap into that part of each of my students that is exited about learning a new language, because that motivation will lead them to succeed in my class.

As a language teacher I firmly believe that in order for the students to succeed, two things must be present in the classroom environment: trust and respect. I have a lot of experience as a language student, Spanish is my native tongue and I have learned English, German and a bit of French and I have struggled with that first phrase I wanted to say out loud thinking that I was going to make a mistake or that it was going to sound funny. I understand that not everyone learns a language at the same rate and speaking in a foreign language takes courage and self-confidence. Courage and self-confidence are supported by an environment of trust and respect. In my classroom there are always ground rules: we are all here to learn, we learn from each other and we must respect each other.

The other very important aspect for me is making sure that the level of proficiency is correctly assessed. If the classes are too challenging or too basic, a negative environment not conducive to learning is created. Even if proper evaluation is made before the groups are formed, there will always be differences inside the classroom. I, as a teacher, try to be as aware as possible of this factor and strive to use that for the good of the group. Pairing a strong student with someone not as strong usually helps. Another important issue that I try to be as aware as possible is preventing the strong students from taking over the exercises and leaving behind other students that, because of either lack of confidence or not being at the same level, stop themselves from actively participating in class. In my classes, I make sure that everyone is heard and that I can evaluate progress of all my students.

Personal Description:
I am a Masters student in Broadcast Engineering at Birmingham city University. I have completed under graduate degree in Electronics and communication Engineering with first class.

Teaching Experience:

During my Under graduate and school days, I have seen a lot of my friends struggling to get good marks in Maths and Science subjects. I was able to help them by assisting them to understand the basic concept thoroughly with the help of simple examples and tricks which helps to remember complex formulas and equations. Being a student myself, I know the difficulties an undergraduate and school students go through while learning these subjects . I believe my learning experience so far can be utilized to help those students who need some help in their Maths and science subjects. Its not a magic potion but with a strong understanding and practice, getting good marks in these subjects is an easy task.

Tutoring Approach:

Each student is unique and thinks differently. As a Tutor I would like to help them in their studies by helping them to understand the concepts with the help of simple examples and tips.
