Personal Description:
I studied music at Hertford College, Oxford, where I sang as a choral scholar. I now work in music as a conductor, singer, pianist and teacher. I conduct the Harpenden-based Lea Singers and the Solis Ensemble, and sing with the choir of St Albans Cathedral. I am employed as an accompanist by Portland Place School, London, and regularly accompany ABRSM and school music exams.

I am able to teach piano, theory and aural skills. I teach music GCSE and A' Level, either independently or as back-up to school classes.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught piano, theory and musicianship for many years. My experience at Portland Place School has taught me various approaches to working with younger students. My current range of teaching includes children and teenage piano students, GCSE and A' level tuition for various exam boards, and adult musicianship.

I have personal experience of dealing with children with ADHD and related concentration difficulties.

Tutoring Approach:

For piano students I make it a priority to identify what music excites and inspires the student to practise. This way there is always a balance between hard work, a challenge, and enjoyment. I try to be flexible and cater to each student's tastes and needs, always with the background aim of advancing his or her technical ability and musicianship.

Tutoring is especially useful if a student is finding classroom teaching insufficient or unfulfilling. In one-to-one sessions individual problems can be identified and addressed with a more personalized approach than is possible in a classroom environment. For those who are no longer enjoying the subject, I try to reach the source of the disinterest. For those who are wanting a greater challenge than they are currently being offered, I develop exercises to push beyond the constraints of the curriculum. My emphasis is always on developing holistically as a musician.

I am a professional freelance trumpet player. I have performed with many well-established artists and ensembles, including Kenny Wheeler, Alex Wilson, Dave Hassell, Pete Long, the Ronnie Scott's Big Band, the Glenn Miller Orchestra UK, the James Taylor Quartet, the BBC Big Band, the Ronnie Scott's Vanguard Big Band, and the live jazz orchestra for the 2009 X Factor Big Band Special. I have also performed at various festivals, including London Jazz Festival, IAJE conferences in Los Angeles, New York and Toronto, Lugano Estival Jazz in Switzerland, Derby Jazz Festival and Newark Jazz Festival. My teaching and tutoring style is entirely learner-focused. I aim to empower learners to identity their own strengths and areas for development, but supporting them in this process. I prepare materials that will meet their needs, with an eye always on the syllabus and the skills needed in order to pass any assessment (exams or coursework).

I am a graduate of Oxford University in Engineering and Computing Science. I am fluent in French (as well as English and Polish). From an early age, I had a passion for maths and physics and at school, I imagined how I would envisage teaching those subjects differently. I would often explain things in an alternative way to my friends to help their understanding.

Teaching Experience:

I have a variety of tutoring experience at both university and high school level (AS and A level). I like to begin teaching with a session to become acquainted with the tutee and their needs.

At Oxford, I studied under the tutorial system which usually meant one professor to one or two students and this taught me to express myself clearly. I often studied one-to-one with a coursemate where learning was achieved through exchanging knowledge by teaching each other.

Tutoring Approach:

I know that every person learns differently and I will be looking to tailor my tutoring style to every student's particular needs. I am a doctor in Social Anthropology with an interest in education, philosophy, politics, religion, science, culture, health and illness. I gained my PhD in Medical Anthropology about three years ago from the University of Edinburgh, where I have also taught undergraduate students. I have since then worked as a researcher, firstly as a consultant for international organisations on projects on chronic malnutrition in developing countries and most recently as a post-doctoral researcher and also academic teacher for the University of Oxford. I worked in both department of Primary Health Care and Social Anthropology. I currently live in Wokingham and I am planning to move to Guernsey with my husband at the beginning of December.

Teaching Experience:

I always used to help my school classmates with their homework and exams, especially those with learning difficulties. During my final year at university I started giving Italian private lessons to help me financially and I really enjoyed the experience. During my doctorate degree I had the opportunity to teach undergraduate students and also attend teaching training courses to improve my teaching skills. During the final year I started tutoring A level students in Spanish, Psychology and Sociology and they all passed their exams with very high marks. I also supported MSc and PhD students with their thesis both in Psychology and Marketing. I teach German in school to children aged 6-10 and have given private lessons at all levels and to all ages, children, adolescents and adults, in both German and Arabic, for many years. My background is in interpreting and translation and I moved on to teaching from there. One of my long term Arabic students is now studying Arabic at university level, many of my other students have successfully completed GCSEs and A levels in both languages and/or gone on to use both languages for work or leisure purposes.

The emphasis is on the enjoyment of the learning process, I adapt the materials used to the individual needs of my students and everything is tailored to those needs. For children the emphasis is on learning through games, play and song, for adolescents and adults games and play may still form a part of the process. Cultural instruction and understanding goes hand in hand with the learning of the language, especially with Arabic as the culture and script are so different and present special challenges. Tutoring Approach:

I am an Italian national who has been living in Bristol since September 2012 and having had a long time experience as an Italian teacher for students who have participated in the AFS Intercultural Program, it has not been difficult to insert myself here as a private Italian teacher.
I have a deep understanding of the GCSE program since I am tutoring three English secondary school students who are having difficulties with the Italian language. They lack interest and enthusiasm thus each lesson becomes more difficult but a challenge for me. I am looking for lessons that give them the enthusiasm they are missing and I must say that I am succeeding; sometime I see that the textbook is very dry and for this reason, my personal teaching materials often replaces the book.
My method is based a lot on grammar induction, stimulating conversations with the student, based on body movements for understand the action of the various stages of the exploration of the basic construction of the verb tense. A few years ago I enrolled in a workshop offered at the university about the use and choice of scene Italian films for understand better the Italian style-life and that has been quite useful to my teaching of Italian culture.
In Italy I have had own bookshop where I held my Italian lesson, therefore I know very well many documentaries and lectures mostly (or particularly) on Ancient Rome. Furthermore, I have been a guide in the city of Rome and I'm perfectly capable of organizing a cultural trips.
I look forward to being given an opportunity to work with your school: it is the type of environment I thrive in and to transmit my passion and love for my country and for my mother tongue is my main goal. I hold a Masters in Photography and have been in the photographic business with over 15 years, I have used all modern digital cameras from compact, Digital SLR and up to and including Medium Format Digital Cameras.

I specialise in Wedding, Commercial, Advertising, Insurance and Injury based photography working to Licentiate standard of the British Institute of Professional Photography and Associate of The Royal Photographic Society. I have produced high quality images for wedding couples as well as using my training and skills to produce images for websites, restaurants, Advertising and Photo Restoration along with producing images which stand up to legal and ethical scrutiny in both injury and insurance work. I have written training methods for photography, using Flash, Getting the Most from High Definition Capture as well as working with other photographic trainers in the wider field of photography. During this time I have trained photographers in specialised subject such as Marco, Flash, Camera Care and Post Processing Software.

I use fine optics and microscopes and prepare images for web and magazine layout for medical publications using Photoshop Techniques.

Personal Description:
I am in my second year studying Medicine at the Imperial College London after finishing my A levels at a South London school. I have an excellent academic record with 7 A-stars and 3 As in my IGCSE's. I have also achieve the highest score on IGCSE mathematics.

I gained 7 As at AS level. I received an average of 97.8% across the 5 science subjects (math, further math, biology, chemistry and physics). I have also achieved Gold awards at the British Biology Olympiad , Senior Math Challenge and the International Chemistry Olympiad. I self taught myself Further Math modules during AS year; I learned FP1 and D1 last year and achieve 98% on both modules. I enjoy the challenge of maths so I self taught two more A2 modules namely FP2 and S3 and I got 100% and 93% respectively. My A level results were 4A* and 1A. I gained 600/600 in A level Maths, 97% in A level Further Maths, 96.7% in Chemistry, 96% in Physics and 92.7% in Biology overall.

I am originally from Malaysia and I am fluent in both Chinese and English, and I can tailor the lessons to focus on whatever students want to learn about. I am keen to tutor students on sciences, math and mandarin. My main academic interests are medical statistics and applied biotechnology. Teaching Experience:

I began tutoring secondary students English and Maths during my time in China. When I first moved to London, I started tutoring students on GCSE sciences. I volunteer to teach English students Mandarin during my time in school. Having been through the stress of exams, I have also held numerous study groups and sessions in order to aid pupils further. I also received an opportunity to tutor two girls on As level Maths and Chemistry for two months or so before the summer 2015 exams.

During the summer, I successfully received a full time job teaching A level Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Toefl English in a tutorial institution in Zhuhai, China for 3 weeks. It was a challenge for me teaching full time and preparing lessons every day to meet the demand of the students. In the end, it was a rewarding experience for me.

I have also performed spoken-word poetry in Manchester and headlined a couple of nights.
I am quite successful at pub quizzes due to having a large and random range of interests, including history, science and culture and luckily having the sort of memory that recalls useful facts.

I enjoy teaching and tutoring because it gives me an opportunity to meet a huge variety of people and to encourage them to develop confidence and life skills. I also like a job invovling communication and rapid results.

Teaching Experience:

I have five years teaching A-Level and GCSE English, as well as tutoring and teaching Latin. Also experience of teaching English to students from around the world, both here and in Europe. I have worked particularly with students aged 14-19 and with students retaking GCSE English with some reluctance.

For the past four summer I have taught university entrance and study-skills at Southampton University, helping students to improve their essay-writing and critical reading as well as helping refine their English grammar performance.

I have seen many different GCSE English assessment methods and boards and have been able to teach the fundamental similiarities of cirtical reading and directed writing that underlie all these varieties. I am also confident in being able to explain English grammar to current assessment standards.

I can also teach more detailed and challenging reading and writing strategies through helping students prepare for university courses and study A-Levels and Access Level 3. I am particularly interested in English literature and poetry.

I have also taught Latin, Film Studies, Politics and GCSE Maths. I designed and ran a Latin evening course for a few terms.

Tutoring Approach:

I think Students need to enjoy the subject in order to understand it fully and to be able to work flexibly in exams and coursework, When they approach questions from a position of confidence and relaxation, they can answer them more effectively.

A tutor works best when providing an alternative to school-based education and a good tutor will enable their student to explore around a topic and to discuss any particular issues and concerns.

I have found that lack of confidence is one of the main barriers to success and that this can often be overcome with the right exercises and personal attention. Another issue that often comes up is confusion about the exact requirements of an exam or assessment. This is an area that can benefit greatly from tutoring support. It is much easier to study once the expectations and structures of a course are made clear.
