I am a young, female primary school teacher in the Doncaster/Wakefield area. Aside from my enthusiasm for teaching and helping children to achieve, I am interested in academic areas including sociology and languages. I enjoy travel and reading. I have worked voluntarily as a teaching assistant and completed a degree in Sociology before training to be a teacher. I now work as a supply teacher at primary level and as a personal tutor to primary and secondary level children. I hold an enhanced DBS check dated September 2015.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified primary school teacher who has taught classes of all ages at primary level. As a supply teacher, I have worked in many different schools and, as such, I develop positive relationships very quickly with both children and adults. I enjoy working with individuals and small groups in academic tasks and find that children are very responsive to this lower teacher-pupil ratio. I have found that working in these situations really helps to boost children's concentration and confidence in their work. They also feel more comfortable to ask questions in areas they find difficult. When tutoring, I am to create a positive, friendly and professional relationship where children feel comfortable with what they are learning, but also feel they can ask for help when required.

Tutoring Approach:

I recognise that children learn in many different ways - some by seeing and visualising, some by talking and discussing, and some by doing a physical or mental activity. I aim to tutor children using the learning style that best suits them. In a classroom, it is often difficult to meet the needs of every child. Personal tuition provides children with valuable one-to-one time, where the focus is on them and them alone. I believe that personal tuition does much to increase achievement in those weaker areas, but also serves to challenge and develop knowledge in stronger areas. Following a free initial consultation, I provide personalised programmes of study tailored exactly to meet the needs of the child involved. I am passionate about helping children to reach their full potential and will do all I can to make this happen. Sessions take place in the child's own home and are arranged on a flexible basis with parent or guardian. I can provide tuition from 30 minutes per week to more intensive programmes consisting of several hours per week in the school holidays.

I currently have slots available on weekday evenings and am available most Saturday mornings and early afternoon. I am not available on Sundays.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching undergraduates in Psychology & statistics at Sunderland University but then became a full time teacher of Psychology in 1994 after completing my PGCE. By 1997 I was Head of Psychology at a large Sixth Form College & I became a Senior Tutor in 2000. In 2005 I was promoted to lead Pastoral Care in one of the largest sixth form colleges in the country. In 2001 I took up the role of Psychology Examiner for the OCR board and served for 6 years before leaving formal teaching in 2007. Since then I have set up a training company delivering courses to teachers in one-to-one guidance. In 2014, I re-visited the role of Psychology Examiner for OCR & I am currently expanding my commitment to assessment and have recently completed an additional qualification for OCR.

Tutoring Approach:

Every learner is different & it follows that the reasons for struggling with a subject are different. Therefore it is crucial for a tutor to understand the students' approach to study in order to design appropriate sessions to enable progress in that subject. For me, knowing the student is just as important as knowing the subject.
Exam Focus. To achieve the higher grades at Psychology, you have to be confident with independent critical analysis. By focusing our sessions on the higher skills involved in psychology - research methods, ethics, issues, etc - you will develop your confidence in this area.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that Tutoring is first about personal connection. Any learning can only be achieved given a certain level of trust, which must be established in order to create a solid platform from which further learning can then flourish. Younger students are most open to absorbing information and should have the chance to take academic information and guidance from a range of people. This enhances the educational experiences and broadens the horizons of a student.

Having myself struggled with poor teachers, or unwieldy subject matter, I know that, with the right teachers, such areas can come alive. More clinical approaches to tutoring further separate students from the learning process. Having experienced one-to-one tuition myself, I have seen the many positives and potential pitfalls the system can bring. These experiences galvanize me and help me in my own tutoring. I relish taking what I have learnt, and the exciting methods by which I have learnt it, and passing that on to other students.

Regardless of the level taught, it is impossible to make real progress unless the student first has engagement and interest in the subject. I see my task as tutor as a process of invigorating the material for those studying.

I am a doctor in Social Anthropology with an interest in education, philosophy, politics, religion, science, culture, health and illness. I gained my PhD in Medical Anthropology about three years ago from the University of Edinburgh, where I have also taught undergraduate students. I have since then worked as a researcher, firstly as a consultant for international organisations on projects on chronic malnutrition in developing countries and most recently as a post-doctoral researcher and also academic teacher for the University of Oxford. I worked in both department of Primary Health Care and Social Anthropology. I currently live in Wokingham and I am planning to move to Guernsey with my husband at the beginning of December.

Teaching Experience:

I always used to help my school classmates with their homework and exams, especially those with learning difficulties. During my final year at university I started giving Italian private lessons to help me financially and I really enjoyed the experience. During my doctorate degree I had the opportunity to teach undergraduate students and also attend teaching training courses to improve my teaching skills. During the final year I started tutoring A level students in Spanish, Psychology and Sociology and they all passed their exams with very high marks. I also supported MSc and PhD students with their thesis both in Psychology and Marketing. During my last post at the University of Oxford I had the opportunity again to teach undergraduate students and attended a 'Developing Learning and Teaching programme' in order to qualify as an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is very much based on bringing forth the full potential of the student. In essence is based on finding the right balance between structure and meeting the personal needs of the student. Thus, giving the right importance to knowledge but, at the same time, also to raising the student's confidence and interest on the subject.

I am a senior epidemiologist and Research Lead within a healthcare organisation and I have studied biology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, parasitology and epidemiology at both under-graduate and post-graduate level. I also have a Master's in Public Health. I am interested primarily in human disease and work on vaccine-preventable diseases, infection and associated Human Papillomavirus-driven cancers. Tutoring Approach:

Relaxed - it is crucial to see how the student thinks and take it from there. Everybody is different and in order to understand where the difficulties may lie, one must take the time to appraise how the student is thinking and which areas are causing the most problems. Using a number of examples, it can often be revealing to the student when one thinks of a scenario in a different way. However, it is imperative that the student appreciates that the attainment of knowledge and the ability to reason and apply that knowledge comes from drive, enthusiasm and structured revision. After tutoring, I normally arrange for students to meet with my contacts in the field of biology and public health so that they may gain some extra practical experience and/or some work experience before their next career step. I have also tutored students who are at various points on the autism spectrum.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience in secondary level education in England, having completed the Student Associate Scheme at the end of my Bachelors Degree. In doing so I had experience working as a classroom assistant and running my own Biology lessons.
I have also worked as a demonstrator within the university.

Tutoring Approach:

I don't believe in giving the answers, it does not help anybody. My approach is to explore the question/problem/topic. If a question can be explored from a different angle then the answer is always reachable. Learning shouldn't be just memorising facts, but really understanding a topic. I love that moment when it just clicks!

I work for OCR as an A Level and GCSE examiner so am fully aware of the requirements needed to attain the best grade possible here. I have also attended several INSETS of the other main exam boards at both GCSE and A Level as well as the most recent meeting for History at Common Entrance level so have a very good knowledge of all public examinations.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching History for over 14 years. I taught in a very high achieving boys' grammar school (Reading School) forc2 years before becoming Head of History in a very high achieving girls' school (Kendrick).
I taught all years including GCSE and A level and think that I have covered all main exam boards and many of the topics taught at all levels. Most girls gained A*-A grades at both levels.

I also ran the Berkshire group for the Learning Skills Council to work to improve attainment at A Level for all abilities as well as presenting at LSC conferences on study skills and how to stretch the most able in History.

I then taught in a private girls school where my duties involved helping pupils with English as a second language gain a higher-level pass at A Level as well as teaching all years of mixed ability including GCSE and A Level classes.

Until recently, I worked in a prep school as Head of History and delivered one-to-one lessons with all of my year 8 pupils in preparation for their exams. Last year, my class of 18 very mixed ability pupils all gained A*-B in their Common Entrance History exam.
I have also taught English, Geography, Maths and RS at secondary level.

Tutoring Approach:

I have done much work on study skills, particularly mind-mapping, and learning styles. It is a bit of a passion that I have in addition to the History!

I love teaching pupils one-to-one and working out what is going to be the best method (or methods) of learning for them. I also see that the problem can sometimes be happening at a very basic level to a large extent. For example - if a student is just sent off to 'make notes' without ever having been actually guided in HOW to make these notes.

I don't really think I have an 'approach' in general as I truly believe that, in a one-to-one situation, methods can and should be completely tailored to the specific needs of that individual pupil.
Depending on those needs, I can work with students to produce specific and useful sets of notes, work on examiantion technique, provide extensive essay feedback, help them recognise how to remember specific historical details and which ones to bother learning etc.

I'm a 23-year-old Physics graduate from Cambridge University living in South London. I received a first in Natural Sciences (specialising in Physics in the final two years) in my finals in May 2014. I went to school at Alleyn's Independent School in South London where I was School Captain and an academic scholar. I've worked regularly as a tutor over the last five years and have approximately 800 hrs of one-to-one lesson experience with an age range of 5-19. Tutoring Approach:

The thing that makes one-on-one tutorials more effective than a group lesson is the potential for them to be student led. I try not to talk too much but instead favour practicing questions (particularly in mathematics) and getting the student to explain topics with a view to pin-pointing gaps in understanding. This way I add to what the student already knows rather than lecturing on what they may already understand.

I try and vary the sessions, particularly with younger students, in order to maintain concentration levels throughout. For example, in GCSE maths and science lessons I will try to work in a quiz mid-way through the lesson to avoid boredom. I like to conduct relaxed and informal lessons because I think a student is far more likely to learn when they are not stressed.

I am a third year student studying International Business with German at the University of Birmingham. I am a good communicator who can speak four languages fluently: English, German, Ukrainian and Russian. Although originally I come from Ukraine, Russian is my native language as I was born and lived in Odessa (Russian speaking part of Ukraine) for most of my life. I have also completed full secondary education in Russian back in Ukraine and at the age of 17, I moved from Ukraine to further my studies in England. As a fluent speaker of four languages, I really do understand all the challenges learners of the new language might face. I believe that vocabulary and grammar are basis for any language studies. It provides fundamentals,which with practice will improve the language skills itself. However, knowing grammar rules isn't helpful until you can actually use it in real world. Thus, I believe that combining both grammar and speaking exercises in classes can bring the best results, trying to use grammar rules, while speaking.

I would divide sessions in two parts trying to cover both grammar and speaking on different topics.This should improve both the use of grammar and vocabulary skills. My name is Gur, I'm a theatre and performance maker and a Hebrew tutor residing in London since July 2014.
I was born in Israel in 1986. I grew up in the outskirts of Tel- Aviv and lived in Tel-Aviv most of my adulthood. I attended the prestigious arts school Thelma Yellin followed by the Yoram Lowenstein acting Studio where I graduated in 2009. Since 2015 I have been teaching Hebrew in London, there are great results and moreover Hebrew tutoring provides me with a connection to my roots. In my productions I put an emphasis on the actor or performer and I am experienced in achieving a result that will satisfy me and my actor.
