I have 6 years of experience teaching mathematics at University Level as well as tutoring at GCSE and University Levels. I have worked for one academic year at Dortmund University in Germany and taught at University Level.

Tutoring Approach:

I am always determining pupil's objectives and expectations before I start teaching.
During our lessons I am trying to communicate with pupil in order to be sure that they can properly understand that topic.
I believe that the only way to learn mathematics is to understand it rather than automatically trying to memorize formulas.

Teaching Experience:

I have coached a variety of students towards Oxbridge application, an inside knowledge of the admissions system being very useful. Previously I have taught various languages (French, Spanish and Russian) to differing levels to groups of students and individually, both in the UK and abroad.

Tutoring Approach:

The most important thing is that the student enjoy what they are learning, so that is always the first goal. The other benefits of having a personal tutor are simple: it allows the tutor to identify particular areas of weakness or lack of understanding and offer help on those particular aspects, which is not usually possible in a classroom situation. When you are comfortable with what you are learning, which is the desired result, you understand, and when you understand, you'll remember.

Teaching Experience:

I am a professional English tutor, and have worked with students of all abilities from Secondary School right up until University for over 4 years now. I have spent 4 years tutoring privately in 1-1 and group sessions, as well as online. I have spent 2 years working in a supplementary school, where I worked with large groups of students from 11-19 years old of mixed abilities. I planned my lessons judiciously, set and marked homework, and prepared my GCSE classes for their exams. I have moved students from C grades, to A/B and even A* grades. My experience means that I am familiar with the current GCSE/A Level curriculum. I have also taught students English from all over the globe, not just academically, but also in terms of spoken English. I have much experience proof-reading and editing top University level essays written by students who attend the country's top Academic Institutions. Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor, regardless of whether I am teaching at GCSE, A-Level or University level, or English as a foreign language, I aim to encourage my students to identify with the subjects, to understand the content and what is expected of them by their examiners, but, most importantly, to enjoy them. It would be unwise for me to say that I have a standard tutoring approach for all my students. Personal Description:
Although I now have a PGCE in mathematics I have been lucky enough to get the chance to apply my skills in maths and physics whilst working as an engineer in the automotive and white goods industries. It gave me the opportunity to travel abroad and to get involved with companies such as Dyson, Jaguar, Austin Martin and then even allowed me to watch rockets being built in Russia.
I trained engineers and factory workers in the use of mathematical and physics based subjects. Some of those I taught had jobs which involved predominantly manual skills and so they were a little rusty when applying mathematical techniques. This makes me appreciate the nervousness some adults have when presented with a subject they may not have touched since leaving school.
After leaving the engineering world I had a brief spell working as a trainer in the insurance arena and then finally ended up teaching mathematics in secondary schools.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a manufacturing engineer for 8 years and then I taught engineers and factory workers for 10 years in the use of techniques involving mathematics and physics. After leaving the engineering world I trained adults to use a mainframe software program and then I went on to become a secondary school mathematics teacher. Finally I started tutoring from home working with various types of pupils. Some pupils have special needs, whilst others are working towards an A grade in their A levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to know why the tutee wishes to study. It may be to improve their confidence or to pass an exam. This will then shape the nature of the tutoring sessions. My focus is to provide people with the knowledge that is most useful to them and their aspirations.

Andreas Papapetrou was born in Nicosia, Cyprus in 1984. He began his music studies at an early age at the ARTE Music Academy (formerly Hellenic College of Music) from where he graduated in 2001 with a Degree in Piano with distinction. He continued his studies in Greece, at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, from where he got his Diploma in Piano with distinction in 2008, and at the Department of Music Studies of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from where he graduated with a Degree in Composition with distinction in 2009. After this he moved to London where he studied composition at Trinity College of Music, acquiring his MMus in Composition with distinction in 2011. He is now a PhD candidate at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

He has studied composition with Michalis Lapidakis, Panayiotis Kokoras, Errolyn Wallen and Stephen Montague, piano with Elena Sophocleous, Emilia Tzima and Douglas Finch, accordion with Irinoula Constantinidou, and jazz song with with Yula Michail.

He has composed music for various ensembles, as well as works of electroacoustic and electronic music. His music has been performed in Cyprus, Greece, the United Kingdom and France. Works of his have been performed by the Trinity College of Music Student's Symphony Orchestra, the DissonArt Ensemble (Thessaloniki), the Contemporary Music Ensemble (Athens), the COMA Voices London choir, the TCM Harp Trio, the Solstice String Quartet, violinist Darragh Morgan a.o.

Teaching Experience:

I work as a freelance composer, performer and music teacher. As a music teacher I teach piano, accordion, music theory and
music composition, both for beginners and advanced students. I have been teaching music for the last 5 years. I have taught
people of all ages, from children to adults. I am currently a PhD candidate specialising in composition at Trinity College of Music.

I have taught piano at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki, from 2006 to 2009, specialising on beginners and intermediate level students. I have been teaching piano, accordion, theory and composition privately since I came to London in 2009, to both children and adults.

In piano playing and teaching I specialise on classical music but I am also open to other styles, including popular music.
In accordion playing and teaching I specialise in classical music and Greek folk music.
In composition teaching, I prefer to let the student choose their preferred style. I do, however, specialise in contemporary classical music, ranging from acoustic to purely electronic music.

I feel that I have a good way to communicate with children and I am a very patient person. I am very receptive to my student's needs and I am willing to help and guide them into solving any problems related to music they might have. I have seen students` confidence in their abilities increases and their understanding deepens. Both students and parents have offered positive feedback from the great improvement in their grade as a result of my tuition. For example, a student`s grade in A Level Physics improved from originally an E to an A after my tuition, while others attend their preferred schools after help revision for their entrance exams.

Teaching Experience:

After various school placements, such as teaching classes at St Aidan`s (ranked amongst the highest achieving comprehensive schools in the country), for over five years I have helped a multitude of pupils ranging from as young as six through to mature students.
Having experienced rigorous training, I am an Examiner for a major board and have relished the challenges of marking
candidates` papers. I feel this gives me an invaluable perspective when preparing my students for their own tests.
I am familiar with the different examination boards, particularly AQA, Edexcel, OCR, CIE and ISEB. Covering English and Reasoning where desired, I have prepared students for 7+, 8+, 11+ and 13+ entrance examinations as well as the STEP and PAT tests required for the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. With my tuition, students have gained entrance to the schools of Aldenham, Fulham Prep, Harrogate Ladies, Sedbergh, Charterhouse and Latymer. After my tuition, candidates attained the necessary grades for their university offers, including from Oxbridge, to study courses relevant to our preparation. I also have experience aiding with IB and professional skills tests together with Pre-U and IGCSE.
I am happy to offer tuition for all other syllabuses as well, for example WJEC and for free-standing maths qualifications.
I also offer tuition to adults wanting to improve their own maths understanding and skills, for example to help with their career or to pass graduate skills tests such as Kenexa, SHL and numeracy for QTS etc.
I have helped several with Asperger Syndrome, those with dyslexia and students who are home schooled or have had to change school due to behavioural difficulties or conditions including severe physical handicaps or speech and language difficulties. These pupils were often rather behind in their studies. Furthermore, I have been trained for and have taught looked after children and also have experience of helping those for whom English is an additional language.

Tutoring Approach:

I find I can relate to students in a calm and patient manner and I have enjoyed helping them through difficulties with their subjects. I endeavour to find and solve the problems students have in their understanding to give them a firmer grasp of the topic, with the benefits from this being increased confidence and improved results.

As a tutor, I consider the student's progress even after a few lessons to be the most important aim and reason for my work.

The pleasure I take in teaching foreign languages comes especially from my wish to instill into my students a love for the beauty and mystery of a new linguistic field and new semantic world. One of my biggest contentments is to share my knowledge and interest with them and then acknowledge their progress in this domain. My purpose is not only to work with passion but also to enable my students to enlarge their horizons so they are able to quickly compare, assimilate and develop their swiftness when communicating in a foreign language.

In other words, I target with priority:

-the enthusiasm and the interactive atmosphere during the lessons

I find that the level at which each student begins with is not important as long as there is a visible progress between the start and the finish of the tuition.

The basis of my lessons consists of the notions which everyone needs in order to know a foreign language, aspects related to the cultural and the real life and the attention on the typical rules of the foreign language.

With delight and interest I concentrate on the efficient use of a variety of media (songs, short films, films, books, newspaper articles, literature) which could animate the lessons.

My eagerness and determination to learn and teach foreign languages (French, English and Italian) developed my interest in analyzing, comparing and synthesizing information as well as enabling me to discover various methods of teaching a considerable amount of knowledge. Through assiduity and responsibility I managed to find the path towards mastering these foreign languages and teaching them with enthusiasm.

Foreign languages are a source of mystery, a mix of rules and originality, a mine of meanings and linguistic surprises, a challenge. I've always found them a very absorbing and fulfilling but sometimes frustratingly vast field which attracts and challenges to a thorough study and wider analysis.

I learned that paying close attention to quality of all my work and grasping opportunities to learn new skills must be prioritized by professional workers.

Teaching Experience:

In Spain I assisted friends and family in translations and using the language. In the UK I teach a variety of students from 15 to 70. Everybody's needs are catered for and learning is paced according to ability. One to one tutoring puts you in control and we find out together what your interests and language needs are and tailor your learning to suit.

I learned Spanish naturally and have a similar approach to teaching. I use the similarities between the languages to lower barriers and make learning fun and easy. Teaching and working with children has always been a passion of mine:

Firstly, within my former secondary school's framework i have plunged myself into any opportunity to help other students. This includes academic support to younger students, a role as a literacy mentor (including certified training) and the direction of a group of 11-17 year old's to produce a record breaking performance in our annual drama competition, of which I am incredibly proud of to this day

I have undertaken a work placement within my local primary school as a classroom assistant, involving valuable experience in one-on-one contact with pupils, as well as voluntary work in a children's art club

I am not the perfect student and never have been. The problem with most Teachers and Tutors is that children see them as TOO good and therefore distant.
