Personal Description:
I am a caring and patient teacher . I develop good relationships with my pupils and care about their general well being. I adapt teaching aproaches to suit individual pupils to enable them to engage with the learning in a postive and supportive way. Children say they like my lessons and enjoy being tutored by me.
If you home school your child I can provide tutoring of a specific subject area fit around your timetable and the way your child prefers to learn.
I am also a parent of boys with SEN,(dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism and adhd) and have a good knowledge of special education needs and the impact of these on teaching, learning and home life.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 5 years in the primary age range and really enjoy it. I have been privately tutoring for 6 years covering both all literacy areas and maths. I have up-to-date training in the new grammar, spelling and punctuation KS2 SAT's paper. In the area of spelling, I have current experience in the synthetic phonics approach. I have used this from the beginning stages in year 1, and also adapted teaching with the support of practical materials to pupils in KS2.
I can provide references from parents of current pupils.

I am able to support your child through the transition into secondary school, providing practical ideas to get ready and support during the first term to enable them to remain positive about their potential as a learner. I can also help advise on issues arising from difficulties in personal organisation from moving around the school to coping with having the right things in their bag on a daily basis.

I can tutor pupils through secondary education in English and English literature. I can support those who are experiencing dyslexic issues and need some support with homework.

Tutoring Approach:

I treat each child as an individual taking into account both parents and the pupils views and needs. I provide suport to catch up on missed areas of basic skills, which is delaying learning, as well as being able to support targets set by school for the pupils individual progress. Through an initial consultation I seek to find out what the needs are and, with parents and pupil, plan suitable help to reach their goals. I share objectives with parents and pupils and give regular feed back to both to reach those goals. I belive it is important for all to see progress is being made. With parents and pupils permission, I like to make contact with their teacher to work with class teacher in identifing areas of difficulty and planning appropriate support. I find that this approach give the maximum benefit for all concerned.
The greatest difference I make to my pupils is to increase their confidence which in turn enables them to be more willing to take part in whole class sessions at school. Teachers of at least 2 of my pupils have remarked on the difference in attitude of the pupils who I have tutored.

Personal Description:
I live in Cheshire and have two children. I enjoy camping, the outdoors & the countryside in general. We like to travel around the UK, especially Scotland & Southern Ireland. I have enjoyed being successful professionally & in my academic career & I am always looking for new opportunities to make the best use of the skills I've developed over the years. I enjoy working out and train most days. I have an interest in numismatics (coins and paper money).

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching in Further & Higher education for the past 17 years & I am Head of Subject & Senior Lecturer at a College with Beacon status in the North West. My results are 10% above national benchmark & I am an examiner with a leading examination board. Last year, I carried out some regular private tuition & was able to turn E grades into A grades at A2 level. This was very satisfying for me & the student concerned was able to go on & take a degree in Law, something he wouldn't have been able to do otherwise.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to treat every student as an individual & seek to respond to their individual learning needs. I offer a very reliable, high standard of service & see us as working together to achieve a common objective, that of success in the summative examinations. Being an examiner for sociology is also a real advantage for my tutees too. More recently, I have been working with Nelson Thornes and AQA to provide 50 online Sociology learning resources for publication in support of their new A2 student book. I now also offer online tuition via Skype voice and video call at a discounted hourly rate for block bookings, hence the 30 rate.

Personal Description:
I am a current A-level Chemistry and Biology examiner and moderator and author of A level Biology exam papers as well as textbooks and workbooks. I have worked in bioscience research and more recently in life science marketing and academic conference management in chemistry and biochemistry. I am a Chartered Chemist, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and committee member of the Protein & Peptide Science Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Teaching Experience:

I have several years' experience in one-to-one teaching, starting with giving undergraduate tutorials at the University of Oxford. I have been offering private tuition in A-level Chemistry and Biology for over 4 years.

I am able to tailor my teaching style to the individual needs of the student and to make best use of online and other electronic resources to help students to an understanding of the subject.

Tutoring Approach:

I start by identifying the particular needs of the student: do they have problems with understanding some or all of the subject; are there any areas of weakness that need to be strengthened; are there issues with exam technique that need to be addressed?

Even well taught students who have a good grasp of the subject can fail to achieve their full potential through poor exam technique. My earlier experience as a Chief Examiner, responsible for setting and marking A level exams, means that I have a detailed knowledge of the exam system and how students need to approach exam papers. My current examining experience has given me an insight into how to help students avoid unnecessary loss of marks by developing clear and rigorous approaches to their answers and to develop strategies to approach individual questions so as to maximise their performance.

Teaching Experience:

I have spent a year working in France as a teaching assistant with the British Council, where I taught English to students aged 15-22. This was a fantastic opportunity for me to gain experience working in a different culture, and to hone my presentation and organisational skills in a new and challenging environment.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to make learning fun, and to motivate students. I do this by setting interesting and diverse themes. I then divide individual classes into several activities to help keep students engaged. I regularly employ vocabulary games and set challenges, which are surprisingly effective way for students to learn and retain new words whilst making the lessons more enjoyable for the students!

Personal Description:
I am a science teacher who loves teaching and tutoring. I have a PhD in chemistry and my subject knowledge is excellent. This enables me to approach a topic from multiple directions to help a student to understand.

Teaching Experience:

For the last few years I have been Head of Chemistry in a selective state school. Previously I taught Chemistry in a non-selective independent school. This teaching experience has been augmented by private tutoring where I have supported students of all abilities at KS5, KS4 and KS3.

As well as teaching chemistry at KS3, GCSE, and A level, I have extensive experience of taking students beyond the A level curriculum, for example, BMAT preparation. I also have experience at teaching physics to GCSE and biology to KS3 and maths to KS4.

Tutoring Approach:

Many students are limited by their confidence and my approach is to take them in small steps from what they know to what they need to know to achieve their objectives. I seek to identify a person's preferred learning style and tune my teaching to achieve success. My first priority is always to ensure the student has a comprehensive understanding of a topic and I assess understanding continually. After a topic is mastered to the point where the knowledge can be applied, I use past examination papers and ensure that the student understands the expected form of answer to the full range of examination questions.

Personal Description:
I grew up in south-west London, in Twickenham, before attending Tiffin School (Kingston-Upon-Thames) and Cambridge University, where I was awarded my BA (Hons) degree in History of Art. I have always engaged with extracurricular activities with enthusiasm, something which my educational institutions have given me ample opportunity to do.

My main passion has been acting. It has provided many opportunities to meet and get to know a huge range of different people, all in a challenging, intense environment. Fundamentally, it is the opportunity to engage with the perspective of another person and to attempt to embody this in actions and speech. It requires a performer to listen to and work with others on stage, and to work within a flexible, productive relationship - this is essential for any student-teacher relationship, as a dialogue begins to emerge.

My other interests have similarly complemented my academic pursuits: I have played rugby union for 14 years, up to and including university level, and used to play the french horn in the school orchestra. Both activities gave me an opportunity to voice my individual contribution to the group whilst working within a team, invaluable experience for academic discussion as well as confidence in many other areas of life. They offer different approaches to problem solving and develop some of the broader skills essential for academic success, such as self-expression, articulation, flexibility and confidence.

Teaching Experience:

My experience includes working with primary school students (age 4-6), through a voluntary program at secondary school. This involved helping children to learn to read. The weekly session required empathy and flexibility on my part, demanding an understanding that each child`s ability was completely unique, and that my approach needed to be modified to fit each person. In particular, I had to cultivate patience and a desire to listen and to understand everything the child was saying.

Whilst at university I also participated in a student run mentoring scheme, which gave unprivileged children the opportunity to understand life and work at Cambridge. It was a fascinating opportunity to understand some of the social and personal blocks to academic confidence, as well as offering ways in which these problems might be developed and overcome. Most importantly, it was a joyful experience to be able to help a younger person, and to understand that they were a unique person with their own approach to problems and solutions. By listening to him, I gradually learnt the ways in which they best communicated and how I could use those situations to our advantage as a student-teacher pair.

More recently, I have participated in a student-run university theatre tour which also comprised educational workshops. These workshops were a much bigger part of the tour than we had originally thought, and proved to be challenging at times. This was partly from the language barrier (many classes spoke little to no English, and were often too embarrassed to speak at all), but also from the unpredictable nature of the students. We had to work on our feet, employing what resources we had in a way which was meaningful, cumulative and ultimately led to an end. Our exercises required an overall structure and an ultimate purpose, but we also wanted to adjust this according to their reactions. Though I initially found this challenging, towards the end of the tour I could take charge of workshops and lead them with ease.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching and intellectual discussion have always been an important part of my family life, and it is an activity which I enjoy on a personal as well as professional level. My time at university has developed my ability to think in this way, as well as providing an environment in which I was surrounded by these kinds of discussion, with both professors and students. The emphasis on close-contact supervision periods at Cambridge taught me the importance of helping each student understand their individual form of expression.

I would avoid didactic repetition and seek to challenge the student and invite them to contribute. As well as work done outside the tutoring time period, I would encourage tasks such as presentations and prepared discussions as much as possible. I believe this work lays an essential base for passionate intellectual discussion, and it is something which certainly helped me in my university interview.

Coupled with this development of interest in particular subject areas, I would try to help the student's method of arguing and offer sustained, constructive advice on how that might be more effective. A university candidate is only as successful as their ability to communicate effectively and succinctly, something which may require exercises as different as confidence building or syntax and grammar. But as well as this self-belief and self expression, the student would need to acknowledge that academic (and educational) progress can be achieved by listening to others and attempting to understand their point of view. This dialogic aspect is essential to my tutoring approach.

Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Francis. I am a 28-year-old native English speaker based in Colchester. I hold a Joint Honours English Literature & History degree from York St John University. In 2003 the only A grade I received at GCSE level was in French. Between 2012 and 2014 I studied optional Mandarin and Spanish at university, having rekindled my own interest in, and talent for, language learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have previous experience teaching English to both children and adults in Wuhan, China, during my time there.

Tutoring Approach:

As I have mentioned, learning foreign languages is both an interest and a talent of mine. However, I am equally interested in teaching my own first language to those who wish to learn it; the English language, both written and spoken, is a rich cultural tapestry going back into ancient times, and a functioning knowledge of it is a worthy addition to anybody's CV. I believe that encouragement and positive reinforcement are the key to success in any endeavour, and accordingly I hope you will find me to be a friendly, positive, encouraging and patient tutor.

I am hoping to work with anyone who wishes to improve their English skills. I can help you improve your grammar, spelling, pronunciation, vocabulary or conversational skills, and I can also teach you some things about British culture and history if you wish; while learning a language is important, it is also necessary to know a certain amount of background about the place where it is spoken. It does not matter if you are not yet fluent - what's most important is that you are willing to learn, and will enjoy doing so. I aim to put the student first, and with this in mind we will discuss and then tackle subject matter appropriate to your age, ability, personal interests, and study aims.

Personal Description:
I have a Bachelor of Science with majors in Geography and Geology. After working in the field of geoscience for several years I wanted a new challenge and have a new passion for education.

Teaching Experience:

For the past year I have been working as an SEN Teaching Assistant in a secondary school. In this role I primarily teach maths. I also teach geography, science and English.

There is a wide variety in the learning needs of my individual students. This has given me an understanding of how to tailor learning to the needs of an individual student.

The mid-level GCSE Mathematics class that I assist attained a 97% pass-rate in GCSE Higher Mathematics. Two year 10 SEN students that I have worked closely with both received a C mark in GCSE statistics, after showing vast improvement over the academic year.

During the previous school year I tutored an A Level geography student. She received an A grade in her final exam. I also tutored two year 11 mathematics students who received a B and C grade respectively.

During my time in third and fourth year at university I tutored several first year geology students.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that each student has the potential to achieve the grade that they are aiming for. In a lot cases though their learning needs to be supported and nurtured in the right way to help them achieve this.

I aim to identify strengths and weaknesses that each individual student possesses. By helping a student consolidate their strengths and by tackling their weaknesses head on I believe that I can help them improve markedly in a short period of time. I also aim to help a student put into place new skills that will help them improve their level of independence while learning. These skills are important to learn and are relevant in many aspects of life.

Personal Description:
Hello, I am a person that gets along with everyone and am quite easy going. I am friendly and bubbly and I like to make teaching fun and interesting for everyone.
I have a BSc in Marine Biology and a Masters' degree also in Marine Biology.
I love teaching and helping people who need some extra input or guidance with their studies, this is something I do naturally.
I currently work as a Science support assistant at Dartmouth Academy and help students all through secondary from year 7 to 11.
My previous profession was Marine Biology, I studied in Portugal, Spain and Wales. I lived in Portugal for 10 years and speak, read and write Portuguese fluently. I am also half Spanish and lived in the Canary islands for 6 months.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience is quite varied. I first started tutoring as a Secondary (yrs10,11 and 12) English tutor in Portugal. My first job after completing my BSc degree was to be the principal marine biologist at a whaling museum where I gave lectures to children (ages 6 to 16) about the ocean and marine wildlife. I then decided to take my Masters' degree and moved to Wales. After that, I decided to become a teacher and get teaching experience in a school. I have been working at Dartmouth Academy from September 2016 to present and I support students and help the science teachers with lesson planning and small recap exercises. Additionally, I have substituted some science lessons and am now working towards becoming a Science teacher.
So far, I am enjoying the experience very much and am also getting very positive feedback from all my students. I have been told that I am nice and that I explain things very well.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is to be a support to the tutee. I am quite flexible and can arrange to meet with you where most convenient, being your house or a library or other public space.
I work together with the tutee and create a tutoring plan. I will sit down with you in our first session and make a 3 to 4 session plan to got though the subject chosen for tutoring. We will decided which sections of your work you are most and least confident with and work through them in a logical order. I will ask you to bring all your learning materials and will look through what you have already covered and what you still need to cover. I will then ask you which areas you would mostly like to address and start from then.
After covering the work I will give you some past paper questions to do and we can then see how you get on and what else may need to be worked on.
Your tutor sessions with me are for your benefit and so I will listen to you requests and needs and work with you to achieve the highest level of learning to your abilities initially and then push you a little to see how well you can perform.

Personal Description:
Semi-retired, experienced teacher who enjoys developing students as independent thinkers. Passionate about supporting people in reaching their goals. Patient and supportive. Current Enhanced DBS Certificate.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 15 years experience teaching KS3 and KS4 Maths and Science in secondary schools; returning to teaching after working in industry where I extended my experience and skills in developing people to attain their personal and professional goals. Passionate about developing students to reach their maximum potential - I have experience in teaching, mentoring and supporting students across all abilities. Previous experience tutoring students in maths at both primary and secondary level.

Tutoring Approach:

Whether pre-GSCE and wanting to increase skills and confidence in maths, or working towards a GCSE and wanting to secure a higher grade - my approach is to understand the student as a learner to identify potential barriers to their understanding, and then building skills through practice to embed learning. I focus this within the context of what the student wants to achieve - the reason why they have sought-out help from a maths tutor.

Personal Description:
I am a dedicated and motivated student who has the passion and enthusiasm of working with children. I am fluent in 3 languages which include English, Hindi and Punjabi. I enjoy travelling and appreciating different cultures and learning new languages. I also enjoy reading in my spare time and in particular enjoyed reading Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman as it touches on current issues such as racism and prejudice. I am caring, compassionate, patient and hard-working which are some of my many qualities that children require in their tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently in my first year at Birmingham City University studying BA (HONS) PRIMARY EDUCATION WITH QTS. I am also currently an activities co-ordinator at Kids Adventure society which is a charity that provides children from disadvantaged backgrounds to take part in different activities such as swimming or going to the cinema, which they never get the opportunity to do so. As an activities co-ordinator, I organise and book fun activities for the children.

I used to work as a supervisor at Kumon where I worked one to one with children aged 3-11 and supported them and provided guidance in Maths and English. I was also in charge of observing and reporting children's progress in their record books and marking their worksheets. I also worked as a Swimming instructor where I prepared lesson plans and delivered effective swimming lessons in order to meet children's needs and abilities. I also motivated and inspired children to become confident and independent swimmers and provided confidence to children who have a genuine fear of water. I also used to be a young leader at Rainbows, Girl-Guiding where I lead different activities and games for girls aged 5-7 and accompanied the Rainbows on trips such as Pantomimes and camps. Lastly, I volunteered at my local primary school in Year 2 where I got the opportunity to listen to children read but also reading stories to them. I also provided extra support for children with Down Syndrome and Autism.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it is important as a tutor to get to know my student as an individual and their personality and interests as this shows the student that I am interested in what they have to say which therefore allows them to open to me more and trust me. I am also aware that every child has a different learning style and a preferred method of teaching which is why I as a tutor would adapt my teaching so that I can tailor my lesson to their needs. I will also make sure that my lessons are interactive as well as educational as I am aware children tend to get bored easily and lose their attention if they are not understanding the content.
