I have a BSc (First Class Honours) in Psychology from Brunel University (2007), and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Cambridge (2011). I am currently a Psychology lecturer at the University of Bath. My research is mainly in social, health and cognitive psychology, but I also teach research methods (both quantitative and qualitative methodologies), statistics and SPSS, as well as effective academic writing, including dissertations and research projects. In addition, I have sufficient competence in personality (i.e., individual differences) and clinical psychology to be able to teach these at undergraduate level.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to use an interactive approach that encourages active involvement of the tutee. My main goal during tuition sessions is to stimulate an interest in the subject and facilitate independent and critical thinking. This, I believe, allows the tutee to become an independent thinker and to enjoy the learning process, which is rewarding for both parties.

Personal Description:
I am currently a freelance writer and researcher working from home on a variety of subjects, including English Literature, Theatre/Film/Media Studies, Sociology, Psychology, as well as other Humanities. I am flexible about when I can tutor, to work round the schedule of others.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored GCSE, A-level, Degree and Doctorate-level students on a range of subjects, although my main focus has been English Literature and Psychology, and, increasingly, Sociology. At Cambridge I spent a few weeks working in a primary school, as I did when I was younger, and I used to teach primary school children at home as my mum was a childminder. I have run drama clubs and workshops, and worked with a host of young people, including those with learning difficulties. I have written model essays for exam boards, proofread and edited work to be published, and worked on many dissertations and PhDs with University students.

My students generally gain their desired grades at A-Level, if they apply themselves and take my advice on tips and tricks to help with revision - little and often is the key, as well as putting random words or theorists where you can see them everyday - like your mirror! - so they can become familiar and memorable.

Tutoring Approach:

I have access to previous papers and model exam answers, and ensure that I am clued up on exam specifications and changes. For English, I will of course always read the set texts that my tutees are studying prior to the first session. I like to mind-map various themes and ideas with the student, and think outside the box as it were, and always make sure that the ideas stem from the student's own work and thinking - so that they can remember it more fully and develop it in future (often students have more knowledge, ideas and insight than they realise, it just needs coaxing out of them!). I often tutor on coursework as well as examination preparation.

For Psychology and Sociology, a more systematic approach is required; I generally like to go over the material thoroughly, testing the student throughout, and spend time on previous exam papers and questions, planning essay answers, discussing how theories relate to real-life situations, and generally helping the student grasp what is required of them in the exam.

Personal Description:
I am a senior manager working within the public sector based in central London. My academic qualifications in this field are supported by extensive professional experience working within local and central government. I provide that sought after combination of in depth academic political knowledge with 'on the ground' relevant and extensive practical experience. Many of my clients comment on this being a significant factor in why I was chosen above other tutors.

I am not a State Registered Teacher. I like to ensure that this is clear. However the vast majority of politics teachers are not qualified in politics and have little in depth understanding of the nuances of British or US political systems. Many of my students ask me why I don't teach. The simple answer is that I can pick the subject I want to teach and throw 100% of my time into one student at a time.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive tutoring experience of A level Government and Politics and a proven track record. I am currently tutoring students for Edexcel and AQA A Level Government and Politics and essay writing. I can provide verifiable references from recent/current students.

The last round of exams (August 2016) all my students achieved a minimum two grade increase to their original grades (some going from E to B) and can provide details and personal references for any potential client to check. All of my students this year achieved a B or above.

A significant amount of my client base is built up through recommendations from previous clients. I also have extensive experience of teaching adults in an adult education environment and have an NVQ in Delivering Learning.

Tutoring Approach:

I provide tutoring on a 121 basis but am totally flexible depending on the tutees needs. I tutor to the subject syllabus, with the added value of my experience, expertise and contextual detail on current political and social events being included. I build confidence above all else.

It is always difficult inviting a new tutor into your house, but you will find I am relaxed, friendly, totally adaptable and totally reliable. My clients comment they can set their watch by my punctuality! I am available most evenings and all weekends but with sufficient notice I can also tutor during the day.

I have been a tutor since moving to London, mainly one to one and also small groups (max 3 people).
I have been registered with UKtutors for 4 years now. Through UKtutors I have been teaching Italian to adults only, most of them beginners. I am very proud of what my students have achieved and are still achieving. Most of them only knew few words and are now able to hold a proper conversation in Italian. Tutoring Approach:

Since each student has their individual way of learning, I think it's important to discuss it at the very beginning in order to make sure that the tutoring is efficient and enjoyable. For example, there are some students that learn better by listening and repeating and others that need to write and read to learn the language; therefore each lesson is organised around the student's needs and learning skills. Both grammar and conversation are essential to learn and improve the language.

Personal Description:
I decided to start tutoring after my experience in trying to get tutors for my own children. As a professional working internationally I thought it would be easy to hand over this important element of their education to someone with both experience and patience. My notion was quickly turned on its head. The Tutors I found taught textbook style with the one shoe fits all approach. My children and others didn't fit into that mould. I very quickly realised that I could do a better job and took the role in house, initially teaching my own daughters before extending out to their friends.
To date I have tutored over 50 children who have gone onto their chosen schools and streams. I believe that tutoring should be about delivering skills to children that they can carry with them throughout their young lives and provide a solid platform on which to develop.

Teaching Experience:

I actually started teaching as soon as I left University in 1993. In those days, I did not have teaching qualification. I then decided to get some experience outside education. After gaining experience in Industries, I decided to get back into teaching and took my teaching qualification. I am now a fully qualified teacher and then started teaching again in September 2007. My strength in teaching has always been on a one to one basis. I do teach in a Grammar School at the moment but I always prefer to teach on a one to one basis because I enjoy helping individual student's as each student's requirement is different and you can't properly help individual student's in a class of 30 students. I am very passionate about teaching and devote a lot of my time teaching.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style is quite unique. Being a school teacher myself, I now understand why it is so difficult for students to understand the subjects that I teach. I do not believe in pressurising students to learn. I prefer a much more relaxed atmosphere whereby the students needs and requirement is the absolute paramount. Style of teaching is also important and how you come across to the students is also very important. Investing into new ways and new ideas in order to aid students understanding is also very important. When you come to me for tutoring, I will not move unto another topic until I am fully satisfied that you have understood the topic that we are doing at the moment and that you can answer questions on those topics that we have done comfortable and confidently.

Teaching Experience:

During the last two years I have been teaching different courses at the University of Leicester, acquiring a strong experience in dealing with students. In particular during this and last year I have been teaching Latin and Ancient Greek to first year students. In the last two months I also have been teaching Latin to the children of the Overdale Infant and Jr. School, as part of the Outreach Program of the School of Archaeology and Ancient History. Furthermore, since last year I have been working as one to one study mentor in The AccessAbility Centre of the University where I support students with learning disabilities. Finally, when I was still in Italy I have been giving private lessons of Latin, Ancient Greek and Italian literature to high school and university students for three years.

Tutoring Approach:

I will have a different approach according to the language I will be teaching. For Italian, I will use a communicative approach. This means that I will deliver just a minimum of grammar and I will use the target language as much as possible so that the student will learn the grammar implicitly. On the other side, since Latin and Ancient Greek are extinct languages I will use a more traditional approach. Nevertheless, also in this case I will try to alternate grammar with literature in order to help the student to get a broader perception of the ancient world.

I am an undergraduate at the University of Oxford (Exeter college) reading for a BA in Music, and attended the Liverpool Blue Coat School for seven years. I achieved my Advanced level qualifications in 2016 with A* in Music (the first grade of that category in the subject for my school), A* in Maths and A in Chemistry, and I was a member of my school's orchestra, choir, and took part in many other extra curricular musical activities. I am a choral scholar at Exeter college, Oxford, regularly play in orchestras at university and home, and composition is a particular area of interest for me within my degree. I enjoy engaging in philosophical debates and discussing ideas and how they change through history.

Teaching Experience:

I have helped out at my school's open days in the chemistry music and maths departments where I have explained how teaching works, but also taught students myself to help show the type of topics covered. In day to day school I also often end up explaining things in these subjects to enhance people's understanding. I was also a part of Resonate Music Hub and led the youth orchestra there, which entailed peer guidance and for a while I helped out in the younger groups helping to tutor the children on string instruments. In previous years I have tutored children 1 on 1 for the Blue Coat entrance exam, and also have experience working with less able children, and those who need a little more guidance in many subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that one of the best ways to learn and understand important concepts and facts is for the student to lead the reasoning with guidance from the tutor. I will use this approach to ensure that the student fully understands what is being taught but also I am aware that many things require a different approach, involving slower step by step teaching method. I will also cater for students who want to know more about the subject, and I believe my very current A level and degree knowledge can provide information where questions are asked, which I very much encourage. In terms of tutoring for the entrance exam I believe the best way to prepare is to go through practice questions and explain how they work and how to best gain marks. My degree has shaped my writing style so that I can assist students with their essay writing and how to succinctly shape arguments. If you are worried about your child losing focus over the long summer and forgetting what they have learnt in the previous term, or just want to push them while there is the time, a session or two a week is an ideal way to keep thought active and present.

Hi! My name is Hannah and I am a graduate of Newcastle University in English Linguistics, French and Japanese. I began teaching English to two young French children in Paris shortly after I graduated; my responsibilities included collecting them from school, looking after them at home and engaging them in activities and exercises to improve their English skills.
