Personal Description:
I am a native speaker of Italian with a degree in European Language and extensive teaching experience. I have been based in Oxford for the past 6 years, after having lived in different European countries. I am an enthusiast linguist and my multilingual family is testimonial to that (a French husband, and trilingual children).

Teaching Experience:

I have gained experience in teaching to both adults and younger students (secondary school and degree level), both in formal context (I taught in university degree courses and schools) and less formal (evening and leisure courses) as well as Italian for business (directly to companies for their employees).

Tutoring Approach:

I privilege the communicative approach as after all languages are made to communicate! This allows all lessons to be more relaxed and rewarding as small results can be achieved - and seen - every time. I have run absolute beginners intensive courses and my aim is to allow the student(s) to go home speaking from the first time, however little it might be. At the same time, I also tend not to forget about grammar as it is the structure of the language and gives a better insight and understanding, but even grammar doesn't necessarily need to be taught in a very conservative manner.

Personal Description:
I enjoy teaching and have tutored at various universities across Europe. My day job is at the Department of Oncology, University of Oxford, where our team of clinicians, physicists, mathematicians, biologists and bio-chemists together develop strategies to fight cancer. I particularly enjoyed interacting with people at science festivals explaining them the potential benefits of medical imaging. I have presented scientific work at various international conferences and worked in over 5 clinical trials. In the past, I have also enjoyed working at the interface of business, science & technology while starting-up a boutique clinical research organisation.

Teaching Experience:

10/2011-04/2013: Co/supervised various student projects, Kings College London, UK

04/2008-04/2010: Senior Tutor and Invigilator, UCD, Ireland
School of medicine: Designed and delivered 'Applied Research and Statistics' for 4th year Radiology, School of mathematics: Differential and Multivariate Calculus, Statistics, Matrices & Vectors

09/2007-01/2008: Teaching Assistant, University of Strathclyde, UK
EEE department: Probability and stochastic process

Tutoring Approach:

The classes are individually tailored. The students tell me in advance which topic they want to learn. I prepare a few questions & solutions for the chosen topic to tutor during our joint session and encourage students to bring specific exercises to the table related to the chosen topic. At the end of the session, I try to point out the key points learned during our session.
Note: If you can form a group of 2-3 students (max), students share the cost of my hourly class. I offer 50% off on the first lesson.

Personal Description:
I have two main passions: my passion for teaching and my keen interest in Classics. I am currently at the final stage of a joint PhD program in History of Ancient Philosophy between KU Leuven (University of Leuven) and the University of Milan. At both universities, I have had the opportunity to teach Latin Language and Ancient Philosophy. My history made me knowledgeable about Classical Languages and Civilization and an enthusiastic communicator of it to students of different ages.
I attended the 'Liceo Classico', which provides a specific high-school program that strongly focuses on Greek and Latin Languages, Literatures, and Culture, and, more generally, on Humanities. There, I studied the whole history of Greek and Latin literature and I learned to deal with Classical authors in original and to translate even difficult texts.
The desire to deepen into my knowledge of Classical languages and to become a teacher led me to further pursue Classical studies at university. I attended the University of Milan, which is one of the most important universities in Italy and has the biggest Department of Classics. There I developed a solid knowledge in Classical Languages, Literature, Philosophy, and Art. There, I read in original and translated a great amount of texts of the Classical tradition, and learned the methodology for philological research. I gained both my BA's and MA's degrees in Classics scoring 110/110 summa cum laude both times. For my MA thesis, I applied as a Visiting Scholar to the University of Notre Dame (Indiana, USA) where I could perform my research in an eminent Classics Department, taking, amongst others, Professor Martin Bloomer's class on Latin authors.

Teaching Experience:

Alongside my academic career, I continued to pursue my passion for teaching, tutoring high-school and middle-school students in Greek and Latin and in Italian Grammar. Those experiences strengthened my teaching skills and the satisfaction they gave me kept encouraging me in pursuing a teaching career. More specifically, I started to deal with students of different ages and to learn different methodologies of teaching, always in dialogue with older professional teachers. At KU Leuven, I had the chance to teach a seminar on the History of Philosophy for BA Students in the English program. This experience was very challenging and fruitful for deepening my teaching and linguistic skills.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is not only to provide tutees with knowledge of the Greek and Latin languages and the classical world, but also, and primarily, to support the development of a curious, open and critical mentality, through an actual experience of encounter with the great authors of our tradition. In tutoring, I take the presence of two elements to be essential: on the one hand, a rigorous teaching method, especially if the scope is to learn Latin or Greek grammar, offering a precise and articulate content to students; on the other hand, a constant interaction between the tutor and tutee, calling for the active participation of the tutee and facilitating dialogue and exchanges.

Personal Description:
I left Hampton School in 2009 with 9 A*s and A's at GCSE and 4 A's at A-Level (this was before the A* grade was introduced). While a pupil there I combined my studies with the Philosophy Circle, made a short film raising awareness of human rights abuses in Burma, and took medals at numerous rowing events, including National Schools Head and National Schools Regatta

I left St Hugh's College, Oxford, in 2016 after seven years reading Classics. I focused on literature - Homer, Virgil, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides and Juvenal among the more prominent names - but took in history, philosophy, art and archaeology as well.

While the Latin and Greek languages, inculcated by my grandmother's reading me myths in the nursery, remain my first love, I am as passionate about English. I've always thrilled at a meet, original turn of phrase; I've read for pleasure as far back as I can remember; and I learn a new poem by heart each Sunday. It is this enjoyment and relish of learning that informs my teaching and which I aim to pass on to my pupils.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching since before I can recall. My family could tell you that I'm never happier than when imparting some new fact to them. Formally, I began in the Sixth Form, assisting my teachers with their 11-13 year-old classes. There I learned quick, efficient and discreet one-to-one tuition.

Since September 2012 I have been tutoring GCSE students in Latin, Greek, English Literature and English as a foreign language. My tutees have included pupils who had fallen behind, pupils who transferred late into unfamiliar subjects, and (in my proudest example) a new arrival from Shanghai who could only slightly speak English. He passed his Englsh GCSEs nine months later.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to teach you the Oxford way: begin with a read aloud of a text, or ask for a brief summary of the topic studied for homework, and then discussion. My aim is to impart not only factual knowledge (the what) as understanding (the why). But if your son or daughter understands the blunt fact of Shakespeare's iambic pentameter or Virgil's dactylic hexameter, then specific examples of its effective use will come to them and *remain with them* all the easier. I'm particularly good at teaching the 'prescriptive' stuff, like metre and grammar, rigorously without being boring. Many years a student myself, I value patience, kindness and humour in my teachers, and I set these at the core of my teaching.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified TEFL teacher for all ages, from toddlers to business adults and I am also a postgrad MA student at Christie's Education studying Modern and Contemporary Art History. I studied Art History at Manchester where I achieved a high 2.1 and gained a First in my dissertation and so understand fully what it takes to structure and compile a piece of writing comprehensively and eloquently.

I am London based and have a bright engaging personality and outlook on teaching in order to engage and interest my students as much as possible in their lessons and their work. I aim to encourage and ensure progression to all my students of all ages, as I myself understand it is never to late to learn, however old or young you are.

My TEFL qualification has certified me as capable of teaching English as a foreign language to young learners, teenagers, large groups, one on one, business language and social.
From my time at school and also at university I understand comprehensively the skills required to achieve optimum marks and I have an extensive knowledge for History of Art at both A Level and University Level.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for the past three years and in those years I have predominantly taught younger children (6-14 year olds) as well as young adults (18-27 year olds). These have been in small groups or private tuition. I have taught students from a variety of countries including Russia, China, Italy and France to name a few.
I am more than capable of nurturing and handling the quietest and shyest of students to the very naughty and the very confident!
I was a peer mentor throughout University and helped settle new students into university life and assisted with any problems they may have. I gave talks on essay writing and study skills for both exams and essays at different points throughout the year.
If needed or more convenient I have also been trained to teach over the phone or through skype and have taught several people this way. If this sounds a more appealing means to take your lessons then feel free to ask me about this as an option.

Tutoring Approach:

I focus on building a trusting relationshipewith the student and aim to build their confidence in the subject they are struggling with.
I will assess the students standard of knowledge and ask what areas they most wish to cover and what areas they feel they struggle with the most. From this first assessment I will then build a suitable lesson plan and rough timetable of topics and activities for them to complete and work on. So that they feel they are gaining as much as they can from every lesson with me.
I am firm but kind! I have a very calm nature and do not think it is positive to aggressively force students into situations or topics that do not interest them or are of no use. However, I will push them as much as I feel necessary in order for them to progress as far as possible and achieve the highest results.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate of University of Oxford, having obtained a degree in English Language and Literature there. While I have an excellent academic track-record, I have always balanced my work with a wide array of interests. A keen sportsman, I was captain of the College 1st XV rugby team at Oxford, all the while directing plays, involving myself in charity work, and publishing many of my own poems in newspapers. As such, I believe I could offer tutees a rounded, holistic approach to learning, encouraging them to develop their broader interests as well as being an intellectually rigorous tutor.

Teaching Experience:

In terms of one-on-one tuition, I have over 150 hours' experience tutoring English and History for GCSE and A-Level. A parent of a recent tutee commented about my teaching: "James is a very impressive man - articulate, personable and straightforward." Another parent, to whose child I tutored English, remarked: "James is professional, patient and hardworking. He is well prepared for each lesson and my son is always looking forward to the next one. I strongly recommend James to parent who is looking for a trustful English tutor."

I also have experience tutoring English in a clasroom environment. Each Wednesday I take a class for struggling KS3 students, providing them with the skills that they will need to succeed at GCSE level.

Additionally, every summer for the past ten years, my family have hosted students on English language courses in Oxford. I was encouraged to assist these students with their homework, as well as develop their conversational English skills.

Lastly, both of my parents are OFSTED-rated Outstanding English teachers with more than fifty years' teaching experience between them. This means I have a wealth of first-rate teaching resources upon which to draw, as well as invaluable advice on planning lessons effectively, engaging students, and meeting differing educational needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I sincerely believe that best results are achieved when students are permitted the freedom to formulate their own opinions and conceptions, before having those sensitively but rigorously challenged. I learned this most of all during my time at Oxford, and as a result my approach to teaching would certainly not be prescriptive or narrow. This also requires tailoring the delivery and style of lessons to the character of each student, identifying their interests and making the educational material fit in with these. As someone with a very broad range of extra-curricular interests (I am a keen sportsman, writer, musician, and actor), I am very well-placed to appeal to a broad range of students, and present material to students in an original, inventive, and exciting way.

Personal Description:
I am 36 years old and hold a Masters degree from Oxford University.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring on a one-to-one basis for over 14 years. I also sometimes teach small classes. I am happy teaching children, teenagers, university students and adult learners.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching uses traditional methods and lively interaction. I expect the student to complete tasks between lessons. Without repetition and revision no-one can be expected to remember. Therefore, I am not afraid to go over the most basic elements until they are well known. Solid foundations are the basis for confidence.

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Sophie. I am a 2nd year student of Biochemistry at Edinburgh University, having just finished my gap year working at IBM. I love to spend my spare time either on the hockey pitch, in the kitchen or doing some art.

Teaching Experience:

Student science tutor for 2 years whilst at school
Summer Camp Leader for 3 years running, experience with international children.
Leader at Cubs, Brownies, Beavers and Rainbows
Work experience at an Adult Learning Centre

Tutoring Approach:

It has been my experience, both as a tutor and as a student, that the best way to engage with learning is to understand your working style. I personally have found certain aspects of school quite challenging but by finding the methods that most suited my needs, I was able to maximize my learning potential.

My tutoring style emphasizes collaboration and positive reinforcement in order to produce a friendly learning environment.

From my charity work abroad in Ghana to my role as Deputy Head Girl at my secondary school, I have gained the interpersonal skills necessary to develop productive and compassionate relationships with pupils. Students will find themselves excited for their lessons and eager to achieve new standards of excellence.

Personal Description:
I'm a Research Fellow at Cranfield University. I found Chemistry very difficult at High School and have worked hard over the last 13 years studying the science, in the process of gaining my Honours degree and Doctorate, to improve my understanding but I honestly still find it difficult at times. I have a huge amount of enthusiasm for my science and find myself reading Physics, Chemistry and Astronomy in my spare time as well as watching countless lectures and home made videos from other scientists on YouTube.

Teaching Experience:

I have a moderate amount of tutoring experience but I'm confident that this is compensated by my energy and knowledge of my field, I love what I do and revel in helping people understand it with me.

Professionally I have worked with many masters students and tutored them on some more advanced aspects of Chemistry such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy and practical Organic Chemistry. I also lecture on several subjects at my University and have received excellent feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

I usually try to work with images first to help the student picture what we are trying to learn. I find that once a student has a working model or analogy in their head it is much easier to advance and increase their understanding eventually leading to the removal of the analogy.

I find that exercises are useful to build a strong memory of facts and figures associated with the science. I don't believe in learning by rote (although it will pass most exams) if you are interested in a sound understanding of a theory or subject. Any tutoring that I provide will be tailored to the student's particular preference in learning style.

Personal Description:
From October 2015, I start my Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil or PhD) in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. My research focus is biomedical engineering and machine learning. I received my Master of Applied Science degree from the University of British Columbia, Canada, and my Bachelor of Engineering degree from Zhejiang University, China. From high school study to doctoral study, I have been performing excellently in mathematics, computer programming, and statistics courses. I am also a Chinese Mandarin native speaker and fluent English speaker.

Teaching Experience:

Previously, I had informal tutoring experiences in engineering, mathematics and statistics with undergraduate students. I also practiced Chinese Mandarin with English native speakers during my master period. Starting from December 2015, I have been working closely with a UK-based private tutoring agency to gain more experience.

Tutoring Approach:

I am good at combining theoretical knowledge with illustrative presentation, e.g. figure or table. I use interactive Q&A to ensure students would seize the gist of certain knowledge with high amount of focus. Also I would like to share my previous study experience with students and tried to come up with suitable learning methods according to students' actual circumstances.

Personal Description:
I have recently semi-retired back to Oxford after two careers: the first in journalism and the second as a teacher and minor academic, having spent the past four years lecturing in English literature at university level. I am, however, a traditionally trained teacher, having qualified at the University of Oxford 20 years ago with the full secondary PGCE in English, with history as my second subject. I can teach all aspects of English and all periods of literature from GCSE level upwards, but undergraduate students may want to know that my academic specialism is in 19th century literature, and my doctoral research was on Dickens. Alongside my tutoring work, I continue to do examining, coursework moderation and consultancy work for the leading exam board in the subject.

Teaching Experience:

I have 20 years' experience, mainly teaching all three varieties of A level English to the specifications of three different awarding bodies, at various colleges of further education. I also have considerable experience of GCSE English (mainly post-16 retakes, also in the FE context) and have taught within a local authority adult education service, as well as at university. I also have several years' prior experience of seeing one-to-one students privately. I have been an examiner for A level English literature since 2000, a coursework moderator for the same since 2009, and am currently a senior examiner for A level English language and literature.

Tutoring Approach:

As a tutor I think I am friendly and approachable, adopting an informal style of session, though I do insist on academic rigour where it is called for, and I have the expertise to back it up. I believe in a collaborative approach, with the full and ongoing involvement of parents, particularly of younger students, and would also expect to liaise by e-mail with the student's English teacher at school. I see the tutor's role as supporting mainstream education, not as something separate from it. I am aways well prepared, and wil go the extra mile by researching material which students have to cover, as well as reading and where appropriate marking students' work, in my own time.

Personal Description:
Trained at the School of Design in Altos de Chavon (Affiliated to Parsons New School for Design, New York), my art has taken me all the way around the world from the Caribbean, South America to Hong Kong to Portugal, and now UK. My technique varies depending on projects and as I have a strong background in Design Programs such as Adobe Creative Suite, in Fine Arts/ Illustration mediums such as Oil paints, Acrylic, Pastels, etc. Performing Arts, and exhibition assistant, I like to keep an open mind always and that has lead my art to be very versatile.

I teach Spanish as well. Its a great language and fun to speak, and very easy to learn.

Teaching Experience:

I have 2+years as an Art teacher and have been a private tutor for a few months.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understand, confidence and enthusiasm for each project. My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and homework to check understanding continually.

I usually focus on exam-style, past paper questions, or drawing exams in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique. Where appropriate I set and mark work, giving students detailed feedback so that they can improve quickly.

Personal Description:
My name is Ellie and I am currently a university student at Oxford Brookes University, in my fourth year. I am native English however grew up in Spain and lived there for 12 years before coming to university, therefore am considered to be completely bilingual. I have availability for classes weekdays and weekends.

Teaching Experience:

I spent one year tutoring in Spanish with two primary school children who were English and had just moved to Spain therefore had little knowledge of the language.
I also worked at a Summer camp teaching English to Spanish children aged 3 - 15

Personal Description:
My professional profile is mainly divided into two areas: Environmental Biology - Natural Science - Italian teaching/translation.
Professional competences on the Environmental Biology - Natural Science field have been acquired during my undergraduate studies in Ecological Science and Environmental Education and the master in Biodiversity and Environmental Quality (both with first-honours grades). Several internship/volunteer activities and training courses have enriched my curriculum on this area and allowed me to enhance my knowledge and expertise.
The Italian teaching area has been developed during the last 3 years (two of which have been spent in United Kingdom), even though I have been passionate on either linguistic structures or teaching/learning processes since High School, inspired by the family atmosphere in which my parents and some relatives transmitted me the passion.

Teaching Experience:

I have a three-year professional experience in teaching lessons of Science and Italian language (6 courses to date, including a special "food and language" course for a company) for individuals and small classes, and I have been an External Examiner for the GCSE Italian Language exam.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly, calm and patient tutor that really loves teaching in a comfortable, positive and supporting ambience. I encourage you to participate actively to the lesson, and, according to the purpose, I promote activities, games and practical exercises focused on your needs. I do not prefer explaining concepts using only schematic structures, but I try to understand your main needs and gaps and I tail the lessons to your specific learning processes.
All levels are covered.
