My technique varies depending on projects and as I have a strong background in Design Programs such as Adobe Creative Suite, in Fine Arts/ Illustration mediums such as Oil paints, Acrylic, Pastels, etc. Performing Arts, and exhibition assistant, I like to keep an open mind always and that has lead my art to be very versatile.

My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understand, confidence and enthusiasm for each project. My approach varies depending on the student's needs and learning style. However my teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and homework to check understanding continually.

I usually focus on exam-style, past paper questions, or drawing exams in order to check, practice and perfect the student's understanding and technique. Where appropriate I set and mark work, giving students detailed feedback so that they can improve quickly.

From October 2015, I start my Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil or PhD) in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford. My research focus is biomedical engineering and machine learning. I received my Master of Applied Science degree from the University of British Columbia, Canada, and my Bachelor of Engineering degree from Zhejiang University, China. I am a graduate of University of Oxford, having obtained a degree in English Language and Literature there. While I have an excellent academic track-record, I have always balanced my work with a wide array of interests. A keen sportsman, I was captain of the College 1st XV rugby team at Oxford, all the while directing plays, involving myself in charity work, and publishing many of my own poems in newspapers. As such, I believe I could offer tutees a rounded, holistic approach to learning, encouraging them to develop their broader interests as well as being an intellectually rigorous tutor.

Teaching Experience:

In terms of one-on-one tuition, I have over 150 hours' experience tutoring English and History for GCSE and A-Level. A parent of a recent tutee commented about my teaching: "James is a very impressive man - articulate, personable and straightforward." Another parent, to whose child I tutored English, remarked: "James is professional, patient and hardworking. He is well prepared for each lesson and my son is always looking forward to the next one. I also have experience tutoring English in a clasroom environment. Each Wednesday I take a class for struggling KS3 students, providing them with the skills that they will need to succeed at GCSE level.

Additionally, every summer for the past ten years, my family have hosted students on English language courses in Oxford. I was encouraged to assist these students with their homework, as well as develop their conversational English skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I sincerely believe that best results are achieved when students are permitted the freedom to formulate their own opinions and conceptions, before having those sensitively but rigorously challenged. I learned this most of all during my time at Oxford, and as a result my approach to teaching would certainly not be prescriptive or narrow. This also requires tailoring the delivery and style of lessons to the character of each student, identifying their interests and making the educational material fit in with these. As someone with a very broad range of extra-curricular interests (I am a keen sportsman, writer, musician, and actor), I am very well-placed to appeal to a broad range of students, and present material to students in an original, inventive, and exciting way.

Personal Description:
I have two main passions: my passion for teaching and my keen interest in Classics. I am currently at the final stage of a joint PhD program in History of Ancient Philosophy between KU Leuven (University of Leuven) and the University of Milan. At both universities, I have had the opportunity to teach Latin Language and Ancient Philosophy. My history made me knowledgeable about Classical Languages and Civilization and an enthusiastic communicator of it to students of different ages.
I attended the 'Liceo Classico', which provides a specific high-school program that strongly focuses on Greek and Latin Languages, Literatures, and Culture, and, more generally, on Humanities. There, I studied the whole history of Greek and Latin literature and I learned to deal with Classical authors in original and to translate even difficult texts.
The desire to deepen into my knowledge of Classical languages and to become a teacher led me to further pursue Classical studies at university. I attended the University of Milan, which is one of the most important universities in Italy and has the biggest Department of Classics. There I developed a solid knowledge in Classical Languages, Literature, Philosophy, and Art. There, I read in original and translated a great amount of texts of the Classical tradition, and learned the methodology for philological research. I gained both my BA's and MA's degrees in Classics scoring 110/110 summa cum laude both times. For my MA thesis, I applied as a Visiting Scholar to the University of Notre Dame (Indiana, USA) where I could perform my research in an eminent Classics Department, taking, amongst others, Professor Martin Bloomer's class on Latin authors.

Teaching Experience:

Alongside my academic career, I continued to pursue my passion for teaching, tutoring high-school and middle-school students in Greek and Latin and in Italian Grammar. Those experiences strengthened my teaching skills and the satisfaction they gave me kept encouraging me in pursuing a teaching career. More specifically, I started to deal with students of different ages and to learn different methodologies of teaching, always in dialogue with older professional teachers. At KU Leuven, I had the chance to teach a seminar on the History of Philosophy for BA Students in the English program. This experience was very challenging and fruitful for deepening my teaching and linguistic skills.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is not only to provide tutees with knowledge of the Greek and Latin languages and the classical world, but also, and primarily, to support the development of a curious, open and critical mentality, through an actual experience of encounter with the great authors of our tradition. In tutoring, I take the presence of two elements to be essential: on the one hand, a rigorous teaching method, especially if the scope is to learn Latin or Greek grammar, offering a precise and articulate content to students; on the other hand, a constant interaction between the tutor and tutee, calling for the active participation of the tutee and facilitating dialogue and exchanges.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working in a Language Centre for over ten years, teaching English and Russian languages at all levels. I am experienced in working with a wide range of programmes such as survival language, exam preparation, etc. and gave a great amount of individually tailored lessons as well.
I also designed and successfully taught a course on English-Russian Translation for students from British universities.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in order to be effective the learning process should be interesting and engaging, if possible even entertaining, but never tedious. So I try to bring in variety into my lessons and build language learning around the topics which appeal to my student.

Hi, from a young age I have been passionate about writing, studying literature and I have wanted to be a journalist from the age of 8. Fortunately, I attend Oxford Brookes university after receiving an unconditional offer and study English Literature. I am out-going and enjoy conversing with people. Teaching Experience:

Since September 2014, I have been tutoring students (from primary school to GCSE, A-Levels and university level) in one-to-one sessions for one year, in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. I helped my students by explaining new concepts, working through examples and past papers. I was also a member of the Study Aid Society at Cambridge, where we shared academic information and learning experiences with each other and students in junior years on a regular basis. During my A-Level years, I also had two years' experience of tutoring junior students.

Teaching Experience:

I have gained experience in teaching to both adults and younger students (secondary school and degree level), both in formal context (I taught in university degree courses and schools) and less formal (evening and leisure courses) as well as Italian for business (directly to companies for their employees).

Tutoring Approach:

I privilege the communicative approach as after all languages are made to communicate! This allows all lessons to be more relaxed and rewarding as small results can be achieved - and seen - every time. I have run absolute beginners intensive courses and my aim is to allow the student(s) to go home speaking from the first time, however little it might be. At the same time, I also tend not to forget about grammar as it is the structure of the language and gives a better insight and understanding, but even grammar doesn't necessarily need to be taught in a very conservative manner.

I have been teaching for the past three years and in those years I have predominantly taught younger children (6-14 year olds) as well as young adults (18-27 year olds). These have been in small groups or private tuition. I have taught students from a variety of countries including Russia, China, Italy and France to name a few.
I am more than capable of nurturing and handling the quietest and shyest of students to the very naughty and the very confident!
I was a peer mentor throughout University and helped settle new students into university life and assisted with any problems they may have. I gave talks on essay writing and study skills for both exams and essays at different points throughout the year.
If needed or more convenient I have also been trained to teach over the phone or through skype and have taught several people this way. If this sounds a more appealing means to take your lessons then feel free to ask me about this as an option.

Tutoring Approach:

I focus on building a trusting relationshipewith the student and aim to build their confidence in the subject they are struggling with.
I will assess the students standard of knowledge and ask what areas they most wish to cover and what areas they feel they struggle with the most. From this first assessment I will then build a suitable lesson plan and rough timetable of topics and activities for them to complete and work on. So that they feel they are gaining as much as they can from every lesson with me.
I am firm but kind! I have a very calm nature and do not think it is positive to aggressively force students into situations or topics that do not interest them or are of no use. However, I will push them as much as I feel necessary in order for them to progress as far as possible and achieve the highest results.

Personal Description:
I'm a Research Fellow at Cranfield University. I found Chemistry very difficult at High School and have worked hard over the last 13 years studying the science, in the process of gaining my Honours degree and Doctorate, to improve my understanding but I honestly still find it difficult at times. I have a huge amount of enthusiasm for my science and find myself reading Physics, Chemistry and Astronomy in my spare time as well as watching countless lectures and home made videos from other scientists on YouTube.

Teaching Experience:

I have a moderate amount of tutoring experience but I'm confident that this is compensated by my energy and knowledge of my field, I love what I do and revel in helping people understand it with me.

Professionally I have worked with many masters students and tutored them on some more advanced aspects of Chemistry such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy and practical Organic Chemistry. I also lecture on several subjects at my University and have received excellent feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

I usually try to work with images first to help the student picture what we are trying to learn. I find that once a student has a working model or analogy in their head it is much easier to advance and increase their understanding eventually leading to the removal of the analogy.

I find that exercises are useful to build a strong memory of facts and figures associated with the science. I don't believe in learning by rote (although it will pass most exams) if you are interested in a sound understanding of a theory or subject. Any tutoring that I provide will be tailored to the student's particular preference in learning style.

Teaching Experience:

I have a 2 years experience of tutoring in London where my 3 students all achieved their desired grades. I also helped compile revision resources for the A-Level Physics class for my school which, to the best of my knowledge, are still in use. My course entails components centered around communication of concepts and peer assessment which I have done well in and would aid me in tutoring. I have also recently completed a summer internship with the university helping to develop teaching resources for some of the university courses.

Tutoring Approach:

I seek to initially understand the problem areas the student has and then build these areas up to a reasonable standard of competency through a combination of explanations including written and oral demonstrations, videos and, later, problems. Once the core theory understanding of the various areas of the subject are firm I work on building the student's problem solving skills which are key to passing exams. This is done mainly through solving problems and past exam questions. In my experience, I have found this method to be the most successful in allowing the student to pass and excel in their exams as well as enriching their understanding of the subject.

I recently graduated with a master's degree from Oxford (I was placed top of my year for my fourth year). Currently, I am taking a year out of formal education before going on to study for a PhD next year.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently working part-time as a teaching assistant for the Mathematics Department at the University of Oxford for a fourth year course.

While studying for my A Levels I collected my notes and built a website for them, so that others could benefit from what I'd written. This website has become quite popular, and now receives almost a million unique visitors per year.

Tutoring Approach:

One-on-one tutoring is an excellent complement to traditional schooling, because it allows the tutor to respond directly to the student's needs and to their learning style. Everyone learns in a different way, and I strive to discover the teaching method which works best for my students.

Tutoring Approach:

Depending on the individual needs of each student, I will prepare a range of tasks to build confidence in specific areas of weakness. From past experience, a lack of confidence is one of the biggest barriers to learning, so in all cases I seek to reassure a student of existing strengths and abilities before and during our tuition. More generally, we will develop speaking, listening, reading and writing skills through different activities to strengthen and accelerate ongoing language learning. Where appropriate/desired, I will bring in relevant texts and materials to develop broader reading building up analytical and critical skills. Grammar work will always feature, though in well-balanced chunks which aim to be accessible AND enjoyable!

Most importantly, I hope to inspire students of any level to relish and enjoy their studies, and to yearn for a more solid grasp of their subject and a higher proficiency in each area of language learning.
