Teaching Experience:

I have taught Maths at Leeds City College for 10 years, receiving consistently good annual lesson observation results. I delivered classes at all levels from Entry 1 to Level 2 Functional Skills Numeracy and Foundation and Higher Level GCSE. Along side this, I enjoyed tutoring many students at KS2, KS3, GCSE and A Level. I also worked with learners looking to improve their Maths for related areas of study such as Engineering and Accountancy.

Tutoring Approach:

The most important aspect of a tutoring relationship is communication. The freedom to ask questions, seek clarification and repeat examples and exercises until a topic or concept is fully consolidated is the primary benefit of a private tutoring arrangement. Teaching Experience:

Over 20 years of teaching, lecturing, one to one tutoring and many happy and successful students. 'There are two good things in life' according to S Poisson: 'learning maths and teaching maths'. Of course a little extreme, but i would say that enabling someone else to develop mathematical thinking and problem solving skills, as well as using and applying this ability to solve equations and carry out complex calculations, for me are some of the most exciting aspects of maths tutoring. The approach i incorporate into all my teaching is to enthuse, motivate and empower my students, so they develop a deep understanding of mathematical processes and thereby learn the skills needed for each particular topic. Thank you for reading my profile. I currently lecture at the University of Salford. I am a visiting lecturer at the University of Cambridge and an external examiner at the University of Liverpool .I am also an assessor for OCR Biology GCSE/A Level and for academics undergoing their teaching qualifications. In 2015 I was nominated by my students for best teacher and best postgraduate supervisor and in 2016 and again in 2017 I was nominated again for best teacher. I offer tuition at my home and some on line support. I have twenty years of experience of teaching. I began working as a private tutor seven years ago. This role gives me the freedom to get to know students on an individual basis and adapt to suit their needs and offers an incredible amount of job satisfaction. Please note however that if you are a student at the University of Salford I will be unable to offer private tuition due to a conflict of interest.
In 2015 I was invited to guest lecture and take on the role of medical director of studies at Cambridge, lecturing to medical students at Corpus Christi College. A post to which I shall return in 2016 I completed my PhD in rheumatology in 2009 at the University of Central Lancashire. Privately I mainly teach Biology, science, PE and study skills.I am also able to assist with other health related topics.
Prior to working within education I was a Chartered Physiotherapist within the NHS for 13 years at hospitals in my local area, achieving Senior I grade. During this time I assumed the role of Clinical Educator for students of Physiotherapy thus beginning my teaching career. While working within the NHS I was also the Physiotherapist to the England Women's football team for three years. This was a unique and memorable experience and I was immensely proud to represent my country, working with such talented individuals both at home and during tours of countries including France, Denmark, Italy, Iceland, Bulgaria, and the Soviet Union. I am an internationally published author, having written and edited eight textbooks which have been translated into eleven languages, covering subjects as diverse as anatomy, assignment writing, study skills and health studies. I have been an external examiner at the Universities of East London, and Bradford for postgraduate study and currently the University of Liverpool on their undergraduate physiotherapy programme . This role includes monitoring marking quality, exam board actions ,modifications to syllabus and teaching and learning consultancy.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately for several years now. I began teaching in a professional capacity whilst working in a hospital environment where I became a Clinical Educator for undergraduate Physiotherapy students from Universities in the region. This role involved teaching and training undergraduate students within hospitals. Eventually my enthusiasm for teaching overtook that of my day job and I began teaching at Salford University on a part time basis, becoming a full time member of staff within the School of Health Sciences in 1996. I am the longest serving member of staff in the department and enjoy my job, and the interaction with students, as much now as when I first began teaching. Please note that if you are a student at the University of Salford I will be unable to offer private tuition due to a conflict of interest.

Teaching at a university entails a range of teaching methods including lecturing to hundreds of students, small and large group seminar-based sessions and a mix of theory and practical skills. Since 1998 I have been the Year One tutor which involves a pastoral element as many students are having their first experience of independence away from friends and family.

As a private tutor both in my own home and in the tutees home I mainly focus on one to one tuition which I find hugely rewarding as I am able to dedicate unwavering attention to the tutee and their chosen subjects. I have experience of teaching students from diverse backgrounds and ranging in age from 14 years to 50 years.

In 2009 I won the first ever Teaching Excellence Award at Salford University, and the following year was nominated for the Times Educational Innovative Teacher Award - both nominated by my students, a fact of which I am extremely proud.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a friendly and informal approach to teaching as I believe a relaxed environment is most conducive to learning regardless of subject or age, however i am aware that privvate tuition is a serious commitment and it is very important that there is a clear structure to the sessions. I am familiar with the syllabus for OCR, AQA and EDEXCEL for G.C.S.E., A level and degree. The first session will include an informal discussion with parents/tutee to gain an understanding of the tutees requirements and to explain my role and how I can aid learning.
The structure of the sessions are largely dictated by the tutee, the subjects they wish to focus on and their preferred learning style and this can be discussed at the first session. As the student develops, the structure can be adapted in line with this.


Additional Information

While I prefer to teach in my own home under certain circumstances I may be able to travel to the student. This will be subject to the inclusion of travelling costs in addition to the tuition fee. This will be undertaken by prior arrangement; please indicate your requirements on initial contact.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught English and English Literature for over 25 years in both state and independent schools to a wide range of pupils, from the very high achieving to the less able.

At A level I have taught English Literature, English Language, and English Language/Literature.

I have been Head of English for 18 years in two schools (one of which has been one of most successful comprehensive schools in the country) for a number of years. My departments have always been the most successful or among the most successful departments.

My teaching career has involved teaching and tutoring pupils and students of all ages and abilities from year 3 to degree level.

Over a period of three years three of my pupils - from over 350,000 candidates in each year - were awarded the highest marks in the AQA GCSE English and Literature examinations, .

My department received an award for the highest performing A level girls nationally.

My GCSE results for have been consistently better than predictions by between a half a grade and a grade.

I have had similar success with A level.

My classes' National Curriculum levels are usually a level or more better than predictions.

I have successfully coached primary age pupils for entry to public schools and selective state schools, including Eton, Oundle, Magdalen College School, King`s Peterborough and Bourne Grammar. I have many years of tutoring experience.

Tutoring Approach:

Since every student is an individual with their own range of skills and knowledge, I tailor my teaching to their needs. Accordingly, I select from a range of traditional and more informal methods to suit the individual.

I am currently a Physics Teacher working at a college in Greater Manchester.

I graduated from Leeds University with a Physics degree in 2007 and began teacher training at Huddersfield University in 2009. Since finishing my PGCE I worked for 6 years at a fantastic school in Oldham, where I was Head of Physics for 4 years, before moving onto my current role.

It is possible that I could tutor on weekday evenings or weekends. I can tutor students living near to the area that I live in which is Lindley, Huddersfield. Any students in Halifax/Huddersfield that require help, I can do so weekday evenings or even weekends. The same applies for students in Oldham, Rochdale or any other area to the near side of Greater Manchester as well as Leeds. I woukd recommened a two hour slot if the distance is fairly substantial as it will be much easier and cost effective.

I tend to go to students houses to tutor as it tends to be much easier for them and their parents and it is more effective if they are in familiar surroundings.

Teaching Experience:

I am a relatively experienced Teacher in my seventh year of work. I have taught Physics up to GCSE and A-Level standard. I worked six years at a school in Oldham and I am now the Physics Team Leader at a college in Bury.

Tutoring Approach:

I will generally tutor students by going over a topic first, seeing what they know/don't know and allow them to ask and answer questions as we go along. I will then set tasks/questions to try and check understanding of the topic. These will most likely be previous past paper questions from the exam board that the tutee will have their exam with.

With exams approaching the focus turns to looking at past paper exam questions as the main focus. This ensures that the knowledge the student will have gained is tested, along with improving their exam technique and becoming more familiar with the style of questions they will be tested on. We will go over all the misconceptions and look at exactly how we can gain more marks by adapting your approach slightly.

I have been a full-time Classics teacher since 2014. I have also been tutoring privately since 2012, and have had a range of pupils aged from 11 through to University students. I have a detailed understanding of the curriculum for each school year and the GCSE, A Level and Pre-U set texts and language, for both Latin and Greek.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an enthusiasm for Classics which I have been told is infectious, and I am a firm believer that learning should be enjoyable. I have studied Latin since the age of 11, and Greek since 16, and have a very thorough knowledge of grammar and syntax in both languages. Teaching Experience:

I've been able to help my younger siblings (1, 2 and 14 years younger) with their education, mainly with the sciences but other subjects too. My youngest brother is only 7 so it is important to adapt the way of teaching to fit his understanding.

The last 2 years, I spent half the year tutoring at primary school and GCSE level, where all students went up a grade.

Tutoring Approach:

It is important to vary the language you use depending on the level and age of the student you are working with. It is also very important not to discourage the student, as I feel this does not motivate them. It's important to make them feel good about what they're doing and this will encourage them to do well.

Born in Edinburgh, I was raised in India and then Africa, before returning to the UK. Having lived in London and South East England since then, our family moved to the Scottish Highlands in 2012, primarily to raise our children in a less chaotic and more natural environment. We've had no regrets at all...and our various dogs and cats are similarly happy with the move!

I have always been passionate about English, from the weekly spelling tests and grammar exercises of primary school to the privilege of being taught at A Level by Tolkien's grandson. His vibrant, interactive approach shaped my ongoing learning and fired my imagination. After leaving Edinburgh University with a Masters in English Language and Literature, I went on to take a TEFL qualification and used this when travelling abroad in Turkey and throughout the Caribbean. I am delighted that I continue to work in the area of EAL with overseas students in British schools, and that technology has allowed me to work with individuals in their home countries, via Skype.

My love of English directed my career, working first at the Royal Shakespeare Company before becoming an independent theatre producer in London, and a theatre advertising executive on accounts such as Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Cats' and Cameron Mackintosh's 'Les Miserables'.

In 2008, my partner and I began the home education of our two children at primary stage. It was both challenging and inspirational and the experiences and knowledge I gained during those years - not purely academic, but also the different ways and methods of learning, the different developmental stages of children, the different learning styles of children - continue to inform my present day tutoring.

While home educating, and with my love of theatre, I founded an educational theatre group, Active Arts, with Margo Gunn, a teacher and director at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London. We worked with a wide age range of home educated and mainstream school children, providing workshops on various Shakespeare plays including 'Midsummer Night's Dream', 'The Tempest' and 'Romeo & Juliet'. Workshops were also designed specifically in support of GCSE/IGCSE work. As passionate advocates of Shakespeare, our approach was active and energetic, lifting Shakespeare off the page and introducing his plays, his language and his theatricality in an engaging and tangible manner. I was thrilled to be able to resurrect this work in the Highlands, initially at a local primary school, conducting 4 workshops for Primary 4-Primary 7, resulting in workshop presentations of 'The Tempest' and 'Macbeth'.

Teaching Experience:

In addition to home educating my two children and running Active Arts, my personal and professional lives led me into private tutoring and I have been a private tutor in English Language and Literature since 2009, working alongside children and young people from age 5 upwards, whether on general literacy issues, EAL or focusing specifically on exam work, from SATS, Nationals and GCSEs, through to A Levels, Highers and beyond. Tutees have been those in mainstream state schools, leading UK private schools and home education, following the English and Scottish curriculums, as well as IGCSEs with providers including Cambridge, OOL and Edexcel.

A number of my tutees have challenges such as Autism, ADHD, Tourette's and dyslexia, and the combination of experience, research and support courses have built my knowledge and understanding in these areas.

While I am registered with tutoring agencies, many of my tutees come via personal recommendation and I was delighted that tutees I had worked with in England chose to continue working with me via Skype after our move to Scotland.

Critically, I am PVG checked, and would be happy to provide evidence of this, together with references and qualification documentation.

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
My approach is not one of 'dip in and out' for an hour, or 'one size fits all', but of creating a relaxed, enjoyable, constructive atmosphere and building a relationship within which the young person's potential can be maximised, against a tailored, individual approach. While texts and challenges might be shared by various tutees, learning styles, atmospheres for learning, methods for learning, will always be different.
As importantly, my approach places great value on the parents, their involvement and their right and need for clear, ongoing and comprehensive communication. As such, I am often in regular contact with both my tutees and their parents, should they require it, outside of tutorials.

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
For many young people with whom I work, English and everything to do with it - their texts, their homework, punctuation, close reading, writing an essay - is a minefield. Often, what holds them back is a mixture of low confidence, fear of getting it wrong, and simply not having grasped the 'map' of how to 'do it'.

One of my main motivations, is to make English accessible; to take away the fear factor, to provide clear and simple structures, to grasp some key exam techniques, to demystify the exam paper, to clarify what the heck the exam paper is testing them on; to remind tutees that they have, naturally, learned one of the most difficult languages in the world and are fully capable of expressing themselves on paper, under pressure and against time.

However whimsical it may sound, as with many things in life, self-belief and understanding are powerful tools for success.


MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
The demand for private tutoring is growing exponentially. As The Telegraph reported in 2012, "more than a quarter of parents use private tutoring to supplement their children's education", spending "6bn a year in the UK." A double page spread in Femail, February 2015, states research that almost 1 in 4 children are now privately tutored, with pupils at private schools almost twice as likely to have private tutoring than those from state schools. Whatever explanation there is for this rise, cost to parents remains an obvious barrier to its provision.

I am, of course, a 'business', but I also firmly believe that access to tutoring should be made as wide as possible; education is a right and not a privilege. As such, while I have a standard rate for 1-1 tutoring, I am also very happy to discuss your requirements with you and to look at options available, such as small group tutoring where the cost per head can be significantly reduced.

Please do take the opportunity of discussing your requirements with me, rather than potentially losing the opportunity of providing tutorial support for your child.

Her works include a number of murals which are still to be seen in many cities of the former USSR. In 1991 she graduated from the Moscow Pedagogical University of Lenin where she studied Arts and Crafts.
In 1990, Lana made the decision to return to working in Ceramics. She soon realized that working with Ceramics provided the best opportunities for exhibiting her talent and creativity. From 1994 to 2000 she worked as an artist and tutor in the studio of Lyudmila Azarova, a famous Russian sculptor. Later on Lana opened her own porcelain studio where she taught Art&Crafts and created her first big porcelain collection "the City". In 2012 she moved to England and lives now in Ramsgate.
In the last few years Lana has been able to devote her time to work as a full time Artist creating watercolour paintings and porcelain.

Being brought up in a family passionate about Chinese literature and culture meant that I was immersed in the classics at a young age. Throughout my childhood, I learned to value and memorize texts such as the eloquent verses of the Classic of Poetry and the Dream of the Red Chamber stirred within me a search for beauty in the literary traditions. Therefore, I was trained to be a well-read person and good writer.

After seventeen, I left China and attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. During undergraduate, I doubled majored in Communication and East Asian Studies. Also, I had one exchanged semester in Amsterdam and studied at Waseda University in Tokyo for a summer as well. After I graduated from college in the U.S, I decided to start a new journey in the U.K, because University College London is an ideal place for me to learn British and French art history. I love to travel, to make friends from all around the world, and to learn different languages and cultures.

In addition, during undergraduate, I interned at oral history recording organizations, such as the Shoah Foundation established by Mr. Steven Spielberg, to collect documents, translate texts and organize data. Right now, as a MA student, I am working as a part-time freelance translater and writer at the artnet News and a part-time intern at the Creative Time Media to write reports on its WeChat platform (around 300,000 followers), with each report of around 20,000-time browsing. I believe these working experiences of me are beneficial for my communication and teaching.

Having studied in China, Japan, the Netherlands, the U.S and the U.K, and having been to twenty-four countries, I am always willing to explore something new and gain more interesting experiences. Physics is (in my opinion) a fantastic subject, and one that is highly regarded in society, not to mention indispensable if a career in engineering or some of the sciences is to be pursued.

Before I decided to change career and become a teacher, I worked for a British sports car manufacturer as a design engineer, using many of the principles I now teach in my then, day to day work.

I graduated from Coventry University in 2000 with a BEng (Hons) in Automotive Engineering Design, before going on to read an MBA in Business Management.

After a number of years working in the automotive industry, I got involved in teaching through the Formula Schools initiative.

I graduated from The University of Nottingham in 2010 with a PGCE in Secondary Science (Physics).

This history of working in industry before going becoming a teacher/tutor allows me to bring in relevant examples of where the theory fits in with the real world. I feel that this is important and I find it helps to bring a subject to life for the student,

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a physics teacher in 2010 and have worked as a teacher or tutor since.

I now work full time as a physics tutor, working on a one to one basis with students across a spectrum of abilities at both G.C.S.E. and A level.

Tutoring Approach:

I provide a calm, friendly approach, taking care to find where precisely the student is having problems, then either tweak theories and knowledge in order to correct any misconceptions or start from the beginning with them, taking the time to fully support, explain and develop the student's knowledge and skills in that area, making sure that the foundations are laid to create a strong base for any future knowledge to be built upon. This is important in both G.C.S.E and A level as they are both built upon a spiral curriculum, whereby topics and previous knowledge are revisited and used time and time again throughout the course.

Often, the difference between a puzzled look and the "eureka" moment that all teachers strive for, is just one explanation or a slight tweak on the explanation of a theory away. Sometimes, the difference may be supporting the examples and calculation side, this support then giving the student the confidence in their knowledge and understanding.
