Personal Description:
I am 23 years old and I am in my final year at The University of Manchester where I am studying French and Italian. I have spent 6 months in Bologna in Italy, working in a private language school for those wished to learn either Italian or English. I worked as a copywriter for the school website, working in French, Italian and English. I also worked as a conversation tutor to those who wanted to learn English. I am now waiting on my results for a recognised qualification, a C1 CILS exam. In the same year, I lived in Paris for four months where I worked at ELLE, the well known women's fashion magazine, where I used solely French. I am very down to earth and my biggest passion is football, I enjoy a good movie and love a good comedy. If you feel more comfortable meeting in a neutral place, a coffee place or in the town centre that is fine by me. It is flexible. A clean criminal record and can boast a detention-less education!

Teaching Experience:

I now have teaching experience and I have shadowed those who have done this for a job. I have worked voluntarily in a school teaching beginner's Italian. Having already worked as a conversation tutor in a private school, I feel I would excel in giving private lessons, given the chance.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel every student works at their own pace, however it would not take me long to work out an approach which would realise the full potential of the tutee. I am patient and I can sympathise that learning a new language or topic can be frustrating.

Personal Description:
From an early age, I have lived abroad in various countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and I have travelled extensively in other parts of the world. This has provided the unique experience of being exposed to a wide variety of people and cultures; an experience that has enabled me to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds in the UK. I have a keen interest in English and enjoy writing poems and words for songs, and I belong to a book group at Nottingham Central Library. I love the EFL teaching role and I am constantly striving to improve my subject knowledge and teaching skills.

Being a member of a large sporting club means I have access to a variety of facilities for cycling, swimming, running and exercise classes. I also enjoy keeping fit by playing, and captaining a team in the local Nottingham squash league. I play the trumpet and write basic music with a small group of musicians; I treasure the times when everyone plays in harmony. I sometimes enjoy walking and cycle touring. Last summer I cycled the Coast-to-Coast and back on the Reivers route; this summer in Sommerset and Devon, incorporating the Tarka Trail.

Teaching Experience:

As an EFL teacher and ESOL lecturer, I have been teaching English for 8 years to mainly adults and teenagers in Further Education, City Council, the local community, university and in private language schools. I have specialised in ESOL, becoming involved in initial assessments, end of term City & Guilds exams, and have sound knowledge of an FE department's requirements for administration and teaching.

I also have experience at teaching EAP, Business English and courses geared towards formal examinations (IELTS). As well as multilingual classes, I have taught monolingual groups abroad in Austria and Spain, and in UK summer schools. On a one-to-one basis, I have taught in a Business English school and have provided additional support to students in the Key Skills department of Weston College. Being self-employed with my own business; I now provide private tuition to foreign people in the community.

Opportunities at Derby College developed Learning Support skills; mainly concentrating on Basic Skill needs. I have also provided 1 -1 in-class support for ICT BTEC First students; most needs being dyslexia related. In addition to this, I lectured at Loughborough College in the Academic English department, teaching students Study Skills in preparation for university. This included the teaching English for Mathematics.

I was employed in the education department of Winson Green Prison in Birmingham. Most of the work was ESOL related, but I had the opportunity to teach Literacy and Numeracy. ESOL was enjoyable and challenging work in an environment that differed from the academic settings I had previously worked in. It changed my outlook on life for the better.

I have also worked as an ESOL teacher in an after-school club, with children and adults in a classroom setting. It was refreshing to pick up on the enthusiasm the children brought. Being employed at Derby Council Adult Learning as a part-time ESOL tutor, I tutored mainly ladies from Pakistan. Both this and last summer, I taught on a 2 month summer school for foreign teenagers. Currently, I teach ESOL part-time at the Renewal Trust in the heart of the St. Ann's community, Nottingham.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to email a student a test before the first lesson so I can establish their level, (be it EFL, ESOL, English, Literacy, Maths or Numeracy), and have something to work on straight away in the first lesson. The first lesson is also an opportunity to get to know one another. I feel it is important to start with a solid foundation.

I normally stick to a thought out plan for the lesson, but I am flexible! I find out the student's area of need so the lesson content is very relevant the majority of the time.

I continually establish what is needed for the student and cover the problem areas thoroughly. It is satisfying to see people learn and gain confidence. The positive interaction is one of the main reasons I do this job; it can 'make your day' a lot of the time, with the variety of backgrounds and experiences students tend to have.

Personal Description:
I am now only accepting online students due to time constraints.
I'm a 40 year old documentary researcher for the BBC. Its my job to meet new contacts on a daily basis and as a result I'm outgoing and extremely personable. I have to Research new subjects from scratch in order to make informative programmes therefore I can take any subject matter and work hard to have a good understanding of it in a very short space of time. Much of the subject matter I learn is Science based.

I really enjoy teaching people new things, especially helping Students to understand subject that they have always found difficult. I understand that everyone learns in different ways and that one method of teaching doesn't work with everyone. By getting to know peoples personality, I can discover the individual ways in which they learn. This is so important in forming relationships with Students and finding out the best way I can help them to understand new subjects.

I'm patient and good humoured and am good at making people feel relaxed in my company however I will push to ensure that the students take their work seriously.

Teaching Experience:

6 years home and online tutoring students aged from 12 upwards in coursework, essay/report writing, exam revision and preparation. Tutoring sessions include tips in how to maximise exam marks.

3 months tutoring children in basic numeracy and literacy in the Philippines.

Tutoring Approach:

Its my daily job to take complicated information and unravel it so that it can be conveyed in simple terms and understood by people of all ages.

I can teach a range of subjects in a way that makes them simple to understand and in a style adapted to each student's personality. I'm also skilled at writing reports and essays, particularly understanding all the applied thinking that needs to be demonstrated to gain extra marks.

I love teaching and pass on my enthusiasm to my students. I believe that it's essential to build up the pupil's confidence in their own ability to learn in order for them to become more interested and approach learning in a more focused way.

I always supply the students with extra Q&A revision papers so that they can continue learning outside tutorials.

Personal Description:
I was born in Sheffield in 1975. After moving to Peterborough, I spent most of my school years as a day pupil at Laxton School, Oundle, during which time my main enjoyment came from sport and music. I studied Natural Sciences at Clare College, Cambridge, specialising in chemistry, the fourth year of which involved an organic synthesis as part of research by the Goodman group.

Since 2002 I have lived in Exeter, working in a variety of contexts including IT, chemistry teaching and advice work for Age Concern. During 2008-9 I completed a PGCE at Exeter University, which involved teaching 16-18 yr olds and adults in IT and chemistry at Exeter College. Since then I have taught chemistry, IT and maths at Exeter College and privately.

Chemistry teacher at Mander Portman Woodward 5th & 6th form college, Cambridge.(1999-2000)

Chemistry tutor in Cambridge, London and Exeter(1999-present)

Tutoring Approach:

Approach to Tutoring:

My aim is to provide students with as much help as possible when preparing for their exams. This may take the form of:

Homework
Past paper questions
Revision of important topics
Helping with anything that the student wants to go through

Lessons are student orientated. If someone says, "I'm having trouble with these homework questions", then we get on with that topic. A lesson may involve going through questions, understanding notes or doing revision.

I can cover most of the current syllabuses including EdExcel, OCR, AQA and Nuffield.

Initially I recommend students bring along all their notes and textbooks. Then we can work out which are the good ones!

I encourage good study skills, revision skills and exam technique, and can set and mark homework if and when required.

Personal Description:
I am a qualified, UK trained teacher and an experienced tutor with proven track record in results and ability to successfully personalise my students' learning, based on their individual circumstances and preferences, whether it is learning Russian or Dutch for business, leisure and travelling or helping children develop their English and Maths skills further.

I can provide all levels of support: private language lessons for adults, document translations to or from Russian and Dutch, language tutoring of bilingual children/teens and fast-track language introduction/begginers courses. In addition, I have a particularly wide knowledge of providing general Russian/Dutch teaching for adults travelling to Russia, including countries of former USSR, where Russian is still one of the official languages, Belgium or the Netherlands, for work or family reasons.

I have completed a BA (Hons) degree in education (graduated with First Class Honours), a Postgraduate teacher training course (PGCE) and, most recently, a Masters degree in Education (MEd), specialising in teaching of gifted and talented pupils. I actively teach in British schools, thus this experience enables me to understand and apply current, most up-to date, teaching techniques and assists me in making the learning experience of my students engaging, productive and stimulating.

I am extremely flexible and reliable and I appreciate the importance of meeting the requirements of each one of my students in a shortest time possible. Therefore, I usually meet my prospective students for a free and totally informal chat, prior to agreeing to a programme of study. This allows me to assess your individual needs and design the best language training tuition program.

My rates are slightly higher than those of other tutors in the area, however with coming to me you get a fully qualified and experienced UK trained teacher, with outstanding subject knowledge and a passion for teaching. I will make sure you get the most out of your language progress as quickly as possible and guarantee that investing into my expertise will pay off!

Teaching Experience:

Personal Description:
Bonjour,

My name is Julie and I am a native French speaker. I was born and raised in the French speaking part of Belgium and lived in France for a couple months. I am currently a doctoral student in Ancient History at Oxford University. I hold a Master of Arts in History from the Université Libre de Bruxelles and a Master of Arts in Classics from Stanford University, USA.

Passionate about the mechanics of language, I am also proficient in Dutch, Latin, Greek and currently learning Modern Greek. In my spare time I like doing improvisational comedy, traveling, yoga and running.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring French for a year in Oxford, for all levels from primary school to adult casual learners.

The results achieved so far are very positive. My beginners students are able to speak basic French from scratch, and my A-levels students achieved very good results at their examinations.

Tutoring Approach:

My line of approach is that one learns a lot more when they enjoy learning. Hence, I am using a lot of different teaching strategies to make you enjoy the class while learning durably French grammar and vocab. Usually, the lessons are divided in two parts: one more focused on the rules (grammar, conjugation) and the other on practice with readings and discussions about French and francophone culture, role plays, listening to an intervention or music lyrics, etc. Then again, this will depend on your needs and current level.

I am flexible regarding the schedule of the class and content of the teaching, which means that we can spend time focussing on something that you particularly want to learn or practice.

Most importantly, I value progress at the right pace: I want to make sure the class fits your level and that you feel that you are evolving from class to class. Whatever your goal is, we will reach it together. Beginners to advanced students in French are more then welcome. All is tailored to the tutee's needs.

*** Teaching will resume in mid-September ***

Personal Description:
I'm a well spoken and friendly "science geek" with great interpersonal skills. I pride myself on a relaxed and logical approach to problem solving; whether it be at a post-graduate level or the ability to communicate GCSE and A-Level topics in a relevant manner. Throughout my schooling I saw many classmates struggle with topics because they were unable to make a connection to their interests. Personal tutoring allows the tutee to have access to the information in a tailored manor such that they are able to relate the the problem and make clear logical choices about how to proceed.

I graduated with an MSci in Chemistry from the University of Nottingham last year and I'm currently in my 1st year of a 4 year PhD, also Chemistry. Throughout my course I did extra maths and physics modules and my research currently also depends heavily on all the sciences and maths. For those interested in Uni-level tutoring within Chemistry; my PhD involves a lot of vibrational spectroscopy (inorganic section), and I regularly use all the physics, maths and inorganic chemistry taught at undergrad level.

Teaching Experience:

Tutoring:
I have tutored multiple students in the past, providing entire revision/improvement courses for both GCSE and A-level students as well as help a variety of university students achieving high grades on specific modules.

The tailored approach of private tuition allows students to quickly build confidence in a subject (and exam technique) which results in achieving grades that each student is capable of. I've also offered subject specific tutoring, such as "Quantitive Analysis for Business", a statistical module for Business Management students.

University:
Demonstrating: I help undergrad students understand and complete practical experiments several times a week.
A-Level Outreach/UCAS: I participate in numerous UCAS events to help potential students and parents understand what Chemistry at Nottingham Uni has to offer.

Outdoor Education:
Last summer I lived in a forest for 3 months and each week had a different group of 12-16 year olds to look after and teach them how to survive in the wild. Catching and cooking our food, building shelters to sleep in and different ways to make fire were just some of the topics covered.

Tutoring Approach:

An essential part of great exam grades is an understanding of not only the subject area, but an understanding of the underlying question. Tailoring a teaching style to every student is essential, especially when it comes to science and maths. Although it's possible to pass exams with a "copy and paste" approach, developing an understanding of the subject area will yield much better grades and almost certainly reducing the amount of stress associated with exams.

Any questions please drop me a message!

Personal Description:
Hello! My name is Yulia. I am a native Russian speaker, fluent in English, graduated in the Russian Federation (Moscow) and worked there later on for over 10 years. For the last four years I have been living and working in the UK and this has allowed me to develop a better understanding of the English language, its cultural nuances, people and life. I was kindly surprised that there are people out there who are truly interested in learning Russian and therefore I felt that I could help them to learn one of the most difficult languages in an easy and affordable ways.
Every year I spend some time in Russia to maintain connection with the Russian language in the most effective way while enjoying company of my family and friends.

Teaching Experience:

If you are planning to learn Russian, you are certainly in the right place. Whether you are a beginner or can speak some Russian already, I will be delighted to help you to learn, improve or master your Russian.
As a Russian tutor I have an experience in teaching Russian both children and adults using the finest adapted educational materials for teaching and learning Russian language as a foreign at all levels. I use a large variety of textbooks with CD and DVD-supplement, training materials for the development of speech, writing, listening and reading comprehension skills, which helps to make the learning process as effective and productive as possible. I currently run a Russian group course for the beginners.
My degree in law and experience in teaching Russian ensures the quality of the final result- you are able to communicate in Russian. I will give full attention to your needs and wishes and provide you with a very honest and friendly service. Being based in the UK I am always easy to reach and deal with.

Tutoring Approach:

In order to make a learning process as interesting as possible I will prepare an individual language plan for you based on your own learning style and ability, language requirements, time commitment and any personal motivations you might have to learn Russian.
If you are learning Russian from scratch and want to become fluent, my aim is to help you to explore the language in its complexity straight from the beginning. From my experience grammar and vocabulary is a key to the successful learning process and ability to communicate with a great confidence but studying just grammar can be quite difficult or daunting, that is why a combination of audio, visual and interactive activities, which I try to integrate into my lessons, help to bring more fun and promising results.

Personal Description:
Hi, I'm James! I'm a half-English, half-Italian 18-Year old currently living in Blackheath, London. I have recently finished my International Baccalaureate (IB) course at Dartford Grammar School for Boys, in which i achieved a score of 42 points out of 45, which equates to either 5 A's at A-Level or 3 A*'s (a hard comparison to make, and one that I feel still undervalues the work done in the IB). I attended the now converted Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Margarets, Lee primary schools, and attended Dartford Grammar School for Secondary school. I am currently taking a gap year before attending Exeter to study Economics and Politics with Spanish.

I live in Blackheath and am willing to travel to all surrounding boroughs within reason, and am currently fairly flexible on when the tutoring sessions would be. I would be happy to combine subjects and do one after the other if that is what you would like.

Besides my studies, I enjoy reading, sports, current affairs, traveling and music. I have begun to read Spanish novels/current affair books/newspapers in order to expand my knowledge of Spanish, and partake in athletic and football sessions on a regular basis.

I have spoken English and Italian simultaneously since a young age, and teachers have said my Spanish is basically at a fluent level. I've traveled around Latin America for a few months on my gap year, which greatly helped my Spanish, and I'm now starting to learn French.

Teaching Experience:

I have done a weeks work experience in my local primary school, St. Margarets, where I was involved with tutoring pupils of different abilities, ages and some with learning difficulties. I have also done my best to help my mother with real-life maths issues (finances, purchases, borrowing) which i assure you is the same experience as tutoring a child...!
I've now done 3 tutoring jobs (2 through this site), all of which were at different age groups: one was for primary school, one was secondary/GCSE and one was adult beginner. Myself and the students have all thought the sessions have been beneficial and I think they've also helped me improve as a tutor and tailor my knowledge to different age-groups/abilities.

Tutoring Approach:

I have achieved highly at all education levels, though I believe it is more important that I feel like I've ended compulsory education with a good level of knowledge in the areas I am interested in (and some I am not) as opposed to simply having studied extensively to pass written exams. I believe that exams can be too straightforward in some aspects, and that there is far more that could be taught in each discipline that would be beneficial to the student. Because of this, I have always tried to ensure I have a solid understanding of my areas of interest as opposed to having a superficial understanding that does little more than tick boxes. I achieved 6 points higher than I was predicted by my school in final exams (essentially the difference between a B/C and an A* in two subjects) due to ensuring that I knew what I thought was best for me as opposed to merely what I was told, and unfortunately I was prevented from applying to the prestigious universities such as Cambridge due to a lack of faith from my school. I have learnt that getting something wrong is merely the first step to gettin something right- one of the best ways to learn something properly is to get it wrong first, see where one has gone wrong and correct it. I have always believed there is no issue in this, as there is a large risk of ending up simply regurgitating information if you try to 'drill it' into your head first time without stopping to understand. Obviously there is exceptions where a 'Yes/No' answer is needed, especialy in Maths, but even so one has to understand the logic behind it to work something out; you'd have a hard time trying to remember every answer to every maths problem ever.
To synthesise, I try to bring logic and reasoning to every aspect of the subject covered, which is necessary even from primary school level to form a solid basis on which to build in the future. For the purpose of communicating with younger children I know that it's necessary to build a bond to get them to listen to you, and I believe I am fairly approachable and an effective communicator. Also, I assure you I don't use as much complex vocabulary in person and I assure you that I am eloquent yet conversational.
