I have a BSc (First Class Honours) in Psychology from Brunel University (2007), and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Cambridge (2011). I am currently a Psychology lecturer at the University of Bath. My research is mainly in social, health and cognitive psychology, but I also teach research methods (both quantitative and qualitative methodologies), statistics and SPSS, as well as effective academic writing, including dissertations and research projects. I'm a very approachable person who interacts well with students of all ages. Most would say that I have a positive outlook on life and always leave a positive impact on those I meet. I'm friendly, down to earth and honest. My philosophy is that studies don't have to be boring, and I always use my career as a teacher/tutor as testament to this.

Tutoring Approach:

Each student is different, and I feel it an insult to my students' integrity to tell them how to revise when first meeting them. Through my experience teaching, there is no right way to study, but there are a variety of 'better' ways to make the best grades for each person's potential.

Many students approach me frustrated that they often don't achieve the same calibre as their peers despite the hours they put in. Often it is due to the fact that they aren't their peers and a different approach to revision and homework is required. I believe in working smart before working hard.

My approach to tutoring is fairly straight-forward, to keep it relaxed and as informal as possible. I believe the best results can be obtained when the student is relaxed and confident, especially with regards to trying to speak a foreign language, as sometimes in a school environment the student lacks the confidence to ask questions. I can work:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday nights online as a guide rates of pay are 10 per hour minimum. Rates of pay are may be discussed on an individual basis. Student will need a computer using Windows and Internet Access to get started.

Tutoring Approach:

As a self taught casual computer program developer learning at my own pace has become very important. Computer programming is a very deep and broad subject. Under my guidance students can work at their own pace and challenge themselves as little or as much as they want. The good news is that a student can learn to write a computer application in a very short time and without four years of college. Students are not graded and no testing is required. More productive levels can be reached if the student has a good idea for a computer application. This idea could come from the work place or a hobby they may have.

I use my own screen captured videos and hand-outs to help students achieve what they want. Everyone has their own learning style some of us learn best by reading, others like to be shown and the rest of us want hands-on training.

I am not the foremost expert on anything, if I don't know the answer to a students question I simply tell them and help them find the answer.

Knowing how to write your own applications is just another feather in a cap for private instructors, business owners, B&B's, human resources, government, and book publishers. These are referred to as 'Vertical Markets' in the software industry (search 'wikipedia vertical markets'). Private computer owners are welcome.

I have taught Exercise Physiology both at University level for ACU in Sydney, and in an adult education environment. I have ample experience in sport coaching, having coached school children and university students in a variety of sports. Tutoring Approach:

People have different strengths and weaknesses. Both these need to be adequately construed before any teaching method can be finalised. Usually, I would try to ascertain the students strengths, to facilitate learning, and weaknesses, to identify areas of improvement. I have been in education for 33 years teaching mathematics and computing for many of these years as well as being IT manager at a school in recent years.

I have a very good knowledge of Entrance examination requirements.

I have also tutored on one to one basis successfully for several years in the past and tutored successful many students to success in past 4 years. I often get repeat business where I have taught GCSE and been retained for A-level teaching or taught their brother or sister as well. All A-level students I have taught have successfully obtained their place at University.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always enjoyed teaching Mathematics and find that with most students it is a lack of confidence and belief that they can do the subject. I therefore work on building confidence by covering basics and making sure students have a good grounding in these before proceeding to harder topics and the examination level questions.


I will always give feedback on how we are proceeding and advise on the progress I feel student is making when ever required. If a student is not making progress or struggling or doesn't seem happy with the lessons I will advise on this. I want to see the students and parents happy with what I am doing for them and getting value for money but I will be honest if I think we are not making progress.

Personal Description:
I have spent many years accumulating a wide range of academic qualifications, and my work has often primarily consisted of passing on my knowledge to others in a form they can understand. I get a lot of satisfaction from helping people to understand something they thought was beyond them. By virtue of having studied several subjects at a high level, I empathise with the feeling of finding something difficult, and have the patience and technique to get past this. I am not a single-subject specialist who might find it difficult to understand why others struggle in their area of expertise.
For students who are preparing for exams, my knowledge of examination technique, and an empathy with the marker, should be invaluable. I always keep in mind the importance of the student's goals, but never take myself too seriously.

Teaching Experience:

My whole career has been geared towards some form of teaching. I have trained groups of adults and children, as well as individuals, in elements of mathematics, psychology, actuarial science, pensions, and even tennis! Recently I tutored my 14 year-old son (who attends a sports academy, not a mainstream school) in three IGCSEs, for which he obtained excellent grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I look at what is important for the student. I emphasise clear, logical ways of working, and clear presentation. I make sure that they realise that they not only need to understand why they are doing something, but they must also be able to explain it clearly. Explaining a difficult concept to someone else can often be the best way to make yourself remember it. I am calm and patient, and English is my first language, all of which can help when a student finds something tricky.

I am consistently available for tutoring during weekday daytimes. I will sometimes be available in the evenings and at weekends, but this will be by arrangement and should not be relied upon.

I am a mature Scottish Chartered Teacher who qualified initially in 1994. I received the Chartered Teacher from the general teaching council for Scotland in 2010. I have experience of tutoring students from 2006 and I am very enthusiastic in my work. I do not watch the clock and will prepare lessons to meet the needs of the student. I gained a M.A.Ed.(Special Needs) in 2005 and have found it invaluable in identifying and overcoming barriers to learning.Presently I have a wide range of students including those with Dyslexia and Aspergers. I have tutor children and young adults from upper primary to the senior stage in Secondary. I have no preference for the stage, it is the teaching experience I enjoy.

Personal Description:
18/03 - Please note that on UK Tutors as both student and tutor to pay a fee before addresses can be exchanged. I have had quite a few people think that I profit from this fee but I really do not, I too have to pay a fee between 10-20.

In 2012, I completed my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Genetics from the University of Nottingham and in 2015, I completed my masters in Psychology. I have been an enthusiastic learner since a young age and hope that through my lessons, my students will also develop a passion and interest in the subjects I teach. I am looking to hopefully teach A-level students that require help to get a better grade. I am also happy to teach younger students.

I have taught Biology and Chemistry up to A-level standards across the most popular exam boards since graduating in 2012. As a result, I have an endless number of exam questions, worksheets and booklets to give to students from day one of teaching. I believe in learning little over a long period of time and working out a strong revision technique. Whilst, I wish all my students can achieve A/A* grades, hard work, motivation and revision are the key tools to achieve high grades, a tutor should only be a tool in your learning, not someone you rely on completely. Whilst I understand that my prices are high, I believe I am also fair. I don`t mind if students stay for longer than an hour if needed and am always happy to reply to emails for homework help.

In terms of future careers, I will be completing my PGCE in Secondary School Chemistry in the coming academic year and would like to eventually become an educational psychologist.

Since graduating in September 2015, I work as a teaching assistant in the Milton Keynes area, in particular in special needs schools, which means I am generally free after 3pm to teach students.

With regard to my CRB check, I was checked by Stoke Mandeville Hospital in 2013.

I have taught in total, over 20 students studying GCSE and A-level Biology/Chemistry/Maths on either AQA or OCR exam boards.

I teach Sunday to Thursday from 4pm to 9pm

Please note, I am happy to offer the first lesson free of charge for long term students, if it is only one lesson you need, then please make this known to me. The first hour is generally a "get to know me" session and finding out what areas the student wants to work on.

Tutoring Approach:

After teaching solidly since November 2012, I have been able to further develop my teaching skills. To begin, I start with revision techniques, worksheets and make new, very detailed, class/revision notes with my students. After developing a solid understanding, I begin with exam questions as I have been able to collect a solid amount of questions (exam and school questions). Every lesson, I print out worksheets and notes for my students as well as give them homework. Essentially, what I offer are school lessons that are more detailed and focused than what they receive in school. Through these methods, I am able to thoroughly assess a student's abilities, increase them and hopefully better their grades. However, I stress, students must work hard themselves to achieve good grades.

Teaching Experience:

Aside from helping my younger sibling and kids I babysit with their homework, I also volunteered in a school run scheme where older students tutor struggling KS3 students once a week, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I also have some experience tutoring other students through this site.

Tutoring Approach:

When studying maths, I have often found that a sound understanding of the basic underlying principles to be key, so this is what I would hope to instill in a any students. I would also focus on developing passion and enthusiasm for the subject as this is also incredibly useful, as it encourages students to spend more time to engage with material, in a more rigorous fashion.

Lana was born in Russia. In 1987 she graduated from the School of Art where she studied Monumental Art. Her works include a number of murals which are still to be seen in many cities of the former USSR. In 1991 she graduated from the Moscow Pedagogical University of Lenin where she studied Arts and Crafts.
In 1990, Lana made the decision to return to working in Ceramics. She soon realized that working with Ceramics provided the best opportunities for exhibiting her talent and creativity. From 1994 to 2000 she worked as an artist and tutor in the studio of Lyudmila Azarova, a famous Russian sculptor. Later on Lana opened her own porcelain studio where she taught Art&Crafts and created her first big porcelain collection "the City". In 2012 she moved to England and lives now in Ramsgate.
In the last few years Lana has been able to devote her time to work as a full time Artist creating watercolour paintings and porcelain.
Her works are in private collections across the world including the UK, Russia, Australia, USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Israel, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland and Ireland.

After teaching a particular topic in mathematics, my method of assessment is to test the student's understanding through additional problems and humorous games that relate to the topic. Also, in order to assess the level of my teaching strategy, I do request feedback from the student on a regular basis.
