| Personal Description: I am a kind, caring and enthusiastic individual who loves to help others. I am currently studying at The University of Glasgow for a B.Sc in Biotechnology, and I thoroughly believe I can apply my knowledge to anyone seeking help or guidance. |
Teaching Experience: I am currently acting as a STEM Ambassador for both primary and secondary schools. This entails visiting schools and effectively communicating to pupils the importance of science and its relation to everyday lives. This, I feel, has given me invaluable presentation and listening skills which I firmly believe can be applied to any situation. |
Tutoring Approach: In my approach to tutoring, I tend to work with the tutee to identify any areas of concern and work on those specifically. This can be in the form of tackling difficult concepts, working through homework to ensure a good understanding, and organising work prior to a meeting in order to test and develop knowledge. Alternatively, the tutee may already have identified an area in which they would like to improve on. In that case, all effort will be focused on the task until the tutee is comfortable with the information and methods used. |

| Personal Description: I am an English lecturer working at the local regional college and I live in Stamford, Lincs. I have a degree in English language and Literature from the University of Leicester and am going to be studying for a masters in modern literature. I am passionate about all things literature related as well as theatre and the arts. |
Teaching Experience: I have been working as a tutor for over five years. I have taught English up to degree level on a private one-to-one basis and upon graduation I worked as an Assistant Director for a well known private tuition company which involved managing a centre of 250 students. During this time I specialised in coordinating all entrance exam courses and had a 100% pass rate within my group. Since then I have been working full time within a college environment teaching on GCSE, Access (A level equivalent) and level 1 English and workskill programmes. I have worked with children as young as four and adults as old as sixty and feel that my varied teaching background has provided me with an ideal foundation on which to teach those of all levels. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a very patient and personable approach to teaching, I find that both children and adults respond well to humour, respect and friendly guidance within a lesson, and I aim to instill this within my private tuition sessions. I plan to envoke a passion for the subject area which can then be transferred into skill with adequate tuition. |

I have worked as an English teacher, Head of Department and School Literacy Coordinator. Tutoring Approach: I begin by getting to know the student and identifying their learning needs. I aim to make lessons focused and interesting. I love my subject and very much enjoy teaching. There is nothing better for me than to see a student improve, gain in confidence and get the grades they deserve. I am enthusiastic, patient and encouraging. |

| Personal Description: I am a female French Language Assistant teacher. I am 22 years old. I have been living in Cambridge since September 2008 I am a very self-confident person and I possess customer service skills and natural warmth to excel in a front line, face-to-face service role. I love teaching things to people, I always wanted to become a teacher. I am a French native speaker so this language has no secret for me. |
Teaching Experience: I am a French Language Assistant teacher who has been working in two village colleges outside Cambridge since October 2008. I either assist teachers in their French lessons or teach small groups on my own. Tasks vary and include conversation exercises like role plays, games; I provide sources and interesting information for cultural studies lessons and rehearse exam situations. Moreover, I actually give particular French lessons to a year 7's pupil who does not attend school. So I have to teach him all the basics of French language. I also give french lesson to a German adult who needs to learn how to speak French for his job. |
Tutoring Approach: As said above, I already have experience in tutoring so I perfectly know what customers expect from my work. I really like sharing my skills with the others when they are willing to learn. |

| Personal Description: I am a former science technician, working in clinical research labs on projects linked to Cancer Research and Addison's disease, who started tutoring and then teaching as a means of support while completing academic studies. |
Teaching Experience: I started as a private tutor in 2004 and then became a visiting lecturer in A level Biology at Sutton Coldfield college where I also taught Anatomy and Physiology for holistic therapy and Access to Teaching (level 3 science) courses. I have since worked as a supply teacher in the West Midlands, providing cover for absence in a number of secondary schools and as a part time lecturer in Biology (A level) at Solihull sixth form college. As part of my PGCE studies, I have also had experience in KS2 teaching (all primary subjects including literacy and numeracy preparation for KS2 SATs). |
Tutoring Approach: The most effective approach to tutoring varies depending on the student, the problem and the resources available. Therefore, I tend to assess each appointment on a case by case basis. The most common approach is to assess the areas of the subject in which the student is having the most problems and review what teaching has already been given in that area by looking through exercise books. This is followed by working through these problem areas, filling in any gaps in knowledge and discussing methods for revision and exam technique. Also offer review and advice on essays, assignments and other coursework. This can be done either in person or online (tutee sends files in appropriate formats and recieves e-mail with comments and suggestions for improvement). |

| Personal Description: I have a degree in Modern Languages and Literature with QTS and a post-degree Diploma in Teaching Foreign languages and a Masters in Sciences of Education - Educacional ICT. |
Teaching Experience: I have 11 years experience of teaching MFL at high school level and also to adults. I teach Spanish, Portuguese, French and Latin. I taught at the University of California Santa Barbara as a Lecturer before I moved to UK, where my husband is from. I also worked for the Extremadura Government in Spain as a teacher and as a translator. I am now teaching in London, Spanish, French and Portuguese syllabuses and I have been involved in intensive exam preparation for students of GCSE and A levels. I also revise plans and advise PGCE students in Spanish and Portuguese. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to think of myself as a highly motivated and dedicated teacher of MFL that fosters high student self-expectation. This can be done by building commitment to quality education and developing strong bonds with students, parents and Faculty. For example, I believe in employing a variety of classroom techniques to raise achievement: I have recently developed a bank of resources for French teaching to accommodate different learning styles. Aside from good teaching, assessing students' progress is important. For example target setting and monitoring is an important method in ensuring that students reach their potential. Finally, create motivating learning environments that capture the imagination of the students, using for example students performance charts with points to show each student's progress in each field and this can be used to monitor a student's acquisition of the target language. |

| Personal Description: I am a postgraduate student with the School of English at Queen's University, Belfast, currently researching a thesis on modern British and Irish poetry. As a freelance writer I have had feature articles and reviews published by Oxford University Press, the BBC and several Belfast newspapers. |
Teaching Experience: Since 2001, I have tutored A-level (AS and A2) English literature students, two of whom I had previously worked with at GCSE level and was a subject mentor for two years at St. Patrick's Grammar School in Downpatrick. In the past, my teaching has been focused on Shakespeare and twentieth century literature. I have worked for both the School of English and the Widening Participation Unit at Queen's in promoting literature study to secondary level students from around Northern Ireland. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a great enthusiasm for literature and believe quite passionately in it's cultural significance. As such I think it's important to make texts at all times relevant and accessible to the student. As an experienced literature tutor for secondary level, I believe that confident engagement with the text is invaluable. It is my belief that tutorials allow the opportunity to work with set texts in a familiar environment, the home, enabling the student to explore and enhance their own ideas with greater confidence; confidence that is necessary for successful independent study. This frees up the student to think critically and imaginatively about their work and who knows, perhaps even enjoy it. One on one discussions mean greater scrutiny of the tutee's work and methods - it irons out creases- but they are also helpful for busting stress because they provide extra practice at reading texts, and equip the student with the verbal tools necessary to better express their ideas that can be transferred, when the time comes, to writing. |
