Personal Description:
I think i am able to inspire and make the lessons instructive but also fun. I think variety of pace and changes in activity ensure good progress and keep students attentive and motivated. Lots of positive encouragement and feedback on a regular basis and students should also be encouraged to feedback on their own learning and any difficulties they may have. I think I have a good sense of humour and this helps me to keep the lesson dynamic and lively and make the lessons memorable.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught over the last 27 years and my teaching has included several subjects: English as a foreign language and English (including English as a foreign language) and I have also taught primary Maths and the piano up to grade 4 . I have taught History and French at all levels and Geography and Biology up to National 5 level ( lower level) I have also taught art and design up to university level and currently provide art classes for children in my home every week.

Tutoring Approach:

I think learning takes place when students feel free to give it a go and make mistakes without any fear of negative remarks from the teacher. Good teaching is about establishing a relationship of trust with the student and customising the lessons to the needs of the pupil. A sense of humour is essential to help overcome obstacles and keep a positive atmosphere. Students should be encouraged to give regular feedback about the lessons. They should be encouraged to teach back to the teacher to demonstrate understanding and proper grading of the work should increasingly develop the students' confidence. Lessons are well organised in advance but also allow for flexibility in approach to individual students

Personal Description:
I work in London as a research manager and teaching Mandarin is my personal interest. I enjoy helping my students achieve their goals and seeing them enjoy learning a new language. As an old Chinese saying goes "teaching and learning are reciprocal and should develop at the same time", I always teach with great passion. I live in St Albans and would prefer to teach in nearby areas.

Teaching Experience:

Over 8 years of part-time teaching experience, from teaching primary and secondary school students to adult learning groups. Having experience of working with young children of different cultural backgrounds and designing lessons to suit individual needs.

Mandarin teacher at Cranfield University community center (15 students) 2009

Individual tutoring 2008-2015

Tutored two GCSE students who got A* and a student passed HSK1 and HSK 2 at the age of 10 and 12 respectively.

Tutoring Approach:

It's important to keep students interested but I have to say I am a strict tutor as I believe language learning requires a certain level of commitment. Chinese is not an easy language to pick up and I'd like to see my students try their best once they decide to begin this process. Of course I will try my best to help!

Personal Description:
I'm an experienced professional maths tutor with a Cambridge maths degree, an abiding love for maths and a passion to help students discover and master maths for themselves!

I teach secondary school students at A-level (including IB and Cambridge Pre-U), GCSE (including IGCSE), Common Entrance and KS3. I also teach mature students, and university students requiring maths to support other degree subjects. I have prepared students for exams from all the major exam boards, including Edexcel, AQA, OCR and OCR-MEI. I also prepare students for STEP and for numeracy or numerical reasoning tests, including the numeracy skills test for prospective teachers.

Two of my three children have been through school and university and one is still at secondary school, so I have been engaged closely with the education system at all levels and understand what both students and parents are looking for to achieve academic success.

My family and I have lived in Cranleigh for over 20 years and I have connections with a number of local schools.

Teaching Experience:

I have thousands of hours of experience of providing 1-1 maths tuition. At peak times in the year I have more than 40 active students on my books, spread across all secondary school levels up to A-level Further Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

More than almost any other subject, maths needs confidence to be built, and a patient, individually tailored approach. Able students may need practice to strengthen problem-solving and eliminate errors, a more joined-up view of maths to deepen their understanding, and challenge to stretch their capabilities. Others struggle to understand at a more basic level, and an imaginative and pictorial approach with plenty of real world examples is needed to achieve that "penny drops" moment!

Depending on the student, tuition may include any or all of: coaching to consolidate (or anticipate) teaching at school; revision for examinations; working through past examination papers; teaching and testing of specific sections of the curriculum; or more free-wheeling exploration of mathematical topics. By agreement with students and parents, homework may be set and marked.

I'm available to teach at any time in the week, either on weekdays (daytime or evenings) or at weekends. I'm happy to teach in my own home, or in students' homes in Cranleigh or up to 10 miles away in the surrounding area in Surrey and West Sussex, including Guildford, Horsham and Godalming. If teaching in students' homes I may agree an additional charge for travel if this exceeds 10 minutes each way.

I offer engaging and effective mathematics tuition at all secondary levels including A-level and GCSE. If you want to succeed in your exams and also to deepen your appreciation of mathematics and have fun, then get in touch!

Personal Description:
I am a PhD student, undertaking my doctorate in Environmental Sciences, with a focus on soil nutrient cycling and nutrient transport to surface and ground waters. I completed my BSc in Physical Geography at the University of Exeter and gained first class honours in this.

Teaching Experience:

I carried out teacher training at a basic level with the University of Exeter in order to participate in the Students Associates Scheme. After this training I spent three weeks in a local secondary school where I actively participated in Geography and Religious Studies lessons, and was able to provide work plans for higher and lower achieving students. I also worked closely with students that had special educational needs.
I also have experience in teaching sports to groups of young children.

Tutoring Approach:

During my time at the secondary school I found that I produced good results working one-to-one with students, particularly with students that were struggling to understand concepts or were having difficulty with the teaching style being used in the classroom. I am patient, focussed and willing to work hard to enable a tutee to achieve their goals.

I have privately tutored many students over the years and made positive difference to their grades.

Currently, I am developing online educational sessions/material to aid students in learning. My videos have already had more than 100,000 hits. I believe these videos should allow revision when I am not available or refresh what you have learned with me.

Personal Description:
Hello, I am from Paris, I have a honour degree in Arts from the University of Edinburgh (2003), and have been making painting and ceramics since then.

I love culture: the arts, music and literature so I am currently learning German and improving my Spanish because I want to explore more European cities.

My current favourite writers are George Sand and Elena Ferrante.

Teaching Experience:

I trained as a secondary school French teacher 10 years ago in Wales.

Since then I have been teaching French to undergraduate students, to adults in evening classes also at university and in private lessons, and to pupils in one to one after-school lessons.

I have been a supply teacher in secondary schools in South Wales so I am familiar with GCSE and A-level requirements.

I currently live in Scotland, Glasgow.

Tutoring Approach:

After approaching my student on her/his chosen areas of focus (GCSE pupils can expect to improve their writing skills as much as or even more than their speaking skills, while professional people may prefer to be more at ease first with their conversational skills) I try and devise lesson plans that are well-focused and engaging.

I use recent and stimulating resources such as French films, documentaries, online blogs and magazines.

Having done some acting in my early twenties I like to take inspiration from the feeling of acting and improvising. this does not mean that my students end up reciting impressive French speeches standing up in a cafe, but rather that I have a mind that naturally tries to create situations that lend themselves to role playing or improvising moods, etc.

I am Pharmacist. I have masters in Pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Sunderland. I have taught primary school students to University students as a private tutor. I am able to make learning real to the individual by explaining the concept of different topics in a way that is practical and understandable. This method of teaching makes it easier for the student to remember more.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught various age groups. Primary, GCSE and A-Levels. (Edexcel/OCR/AQA)

Tutoring Approach:

I have learnt over the years that students learn in different ways. I try to identify how best the student likes and learn best and apply it accordingly. However I have achieved success the most by making the student understand the rational behind the solution for any challenge.

Personal Description:
Hello,

My name is Mayan and I am a 3rd year Politics and International Relations undergraduate. I am a determined and ambitious student who is looking to tutor a young person who is struggling with their political studies.

I have always had a natural interest in national and international politics; it is ever-changing and I like to make sure I am up to date with what is happening in the world as it affects every single person!

Teaching Experience:

I have had teaching experience with children between the ages of 5 - 12 years teaching English and Maths. In 2012, I ran a debating society in my school where I coached 13-18 year olds debating and public speaking skills.

Tutoring Approach:

Firstly, I like to meet my student and understand what their course is all about as I understand from personal experience that depending on which board you are with, your exams and assignments will vary. Following this it is important for me to find out what exactly the student is struggling with; is it learning the content or exam study skills? Once we have established this, I like to take a structured approach to tutoring where both the student and I will agree on what we would like to achieve each week - whether it is how to make a great essay or learning a new political topic!

I like to motivate my students to love what they are studying and not to just do it for the sake of it. I hope that I can help you with not only the political content but in really enjoying the subject!

Where I teach: University of Southampton. This is because I truly believe that it is important to be in a quiet and focused room in a study environment! This is useful for both myself and the student to ensure the best grades.

I am very flexible so if there is anything that you require as a student or parent, please let me know!

Personal Description:
A first class Medical Sciences graduate and qualified teacher, I have over 5 years` experience in teaching/tuition.

Well-versed in most major exam boards, I am able to work successfully with students across all levels of attainment in order to further their understanding of core scientific principles and enhance their exam technique. My position as an assessment specialist with two of the major exam boards has enhanced further my understanding of how credit is awarded in exams - enabling me to not only improve students' subject knowledge, but to improve their approach to exam questions as well.

I take a positive and friendly approach to tuition, and am happy to be flexible in using the methods that best suit the student.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor since attending university in Exeter, and have helped students to improve on their grade by up to 3 grade boundaries over time.

I taught professionally for two and a half years, training through the prestigious Teach First programme. My progress was judged as outstanding. I was consistently judged good/outstanding, both internally and by Ofsted, and I was a lead teacher in my last role.

Tutoring Approach:

Largely, this will depend on what the student is hoping to achieve. I appreciate that, most often, a student's aim is to achieve a certain grade in an exam. In these cases, I will spend a lot of time working with the student to familiarise them not only with the material for the exam, but with the format of the exam paper, exploring how to approach different types of question and working directly with mark schemes to best understand how credit is awarded.

I am, however, passionate about my subject, and aim to uncover some enthusiasm for the sciences with all my students, through engaging sessions in which we can explore topics in perhaps more detail than is often possible within schools.

Personal Description:
Hi! My name is Hannah and I am a graduate of Newcastle University in English Linguistics, French and Japanese. My major interests include travelling, using the languages I already speak and beginning to learn new languages, as well as to discover new countries' cultures and history. I also love learning about the history of language, its roots and links with other languages.

I have lived for 10 months in Kyōto and in Paris, studying Japanese and teaching English to French children; whilst there, I revelled in the discovery of new places, people and lifestyle, which for me make any new experience extraordinary!

Teaching Experience:

I began teaching English to two young French children in Paris shortly after I graduated; my responsibilities included collecting them from school, looking after them at home and engaging them in activities and exercises to improve their English skills. Over the months I spent with them, I saw a distinct progression in their comprehension and their level of spoken English, as well as in their overall behaviour and discipline.

I have several students taking weekly private lessons in Japanese and French; I also teach two Japanese classes per week at a primary school in Durham.

I have taught Shotokan karate to students of all levels and ages for 11 years; I began as an assistant instructor several months after I started training, at the age of 12, and have since become an instructor of full classes of adults and children in our club and of children aged 5-11 in primary schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I deliver high quality, well planned and well structured classes for students of all abilities to children and adults of any age. Whether you wish to brush up on your language skills in preparation for a trip, to support a language course at school, college or university or to fulfil an interest in the culture of a country speaking one of these languages, I will provide a personalised programme of study which I will accompany you in completing. Your tailored language classes will be put together based on your own current level, your preferred teaching methods and your learning style in addition to exactly what you hope to achieve by studying a language with me.

Personal Description:
I am a German native lady with a German degree in translation.
During my studies I attended a North East University for one year.
I have also studied, lived and worked in Spain for 10 years.

I have worked with languages all my life. Either in schools, private tuition, teaching my trilingual teenage daughter, in banking, sales and marketing positions as well as managing my own SME in Spain.

Having raised a trilingual child and having worked in the cooperate world I can teach everyone from children to CEOs of companies. I have also worked with SEN pupils.

I am very patient, understanding and have a good sense of humor. I have a current DBS check. I am happy to teach at your home, at my home or teach online.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a tutor for over 25 years abroad and in the UK.
I am currently working at an independent school in Newcastle preparing GCSE and A Level students for their German exams.

Prior to that I worked at an Academy preparing pupils, including SEN pupils for their Spanish GCSE.
Hence I am up to date with the new GCSE and A Level syllabuses.

Outside of school I currently teach a 6 year old primary pupil, a University student, and a company director who is opening an office in Germany .I also teach him German business conduct, and cross cultural adaptation etc. Furthermore I translate documents for his company.

Additionally, I teach Spanish to an adult online. Due to my translation studies I have an excellent understanding of German, English and Spanish.

Tutoring Approach:

I listen to you individual needs and will prepare the lessons accordingly. We can concentrate on grammar, listening, speaking or writing. I usually include all of them in my lessons to make it more effective.
Lessons will be customized to your specific needs.
I make use of my own resources, books, as well as online material depending on your individual requirements.
For school students: We can also use your school books as used in your school.
Please ask for group rates if you are 2 or 3 learners. Prices stated are for 1:1 tuition.

Personal Description:
I am a music graduate, with aims to go into music lecturing. I am about to start an MA in Applied Musicology at Utrecht University. I decided to start Skype tuition because it`s an incredibly effective medium for teaching, and also because I don`t stay in one place for longer than a year at the moment due to being a student.

Teaching Experience:

I have been playing guitar since I was 8 years old, so for over 14 years now. I studied at Leeds College of Music for 2 years, and have recently graduated from Anglia Ruskin University with a BA(Hons) degree in Popular Music. I have played a range of styles, but find my favourite, and most developed, styles are funk and blues.

Tutoring Approach:

The teaching will be focussed around where YOU want to go. What type of guitar do you want to play? You tell me, and I'll tailor the path we take in order to both develop you as a musician and play the music you love!
I specialise in funk, blues, and rhythm guitar.
There are some core books I recommend you have access to before we begin, but aren't obligatory. They are: 'A Guide to Chords, Scales, & Arpeggios' by Al Di Meola, and 'Basix Scales & Modes for Guitar' by Steve Hall and Rom Manus.
I use these books for warm up exercises, which I value greatly, as it prevents damage to your hands, and means you learn and maintain the level of professionalism expected of every good musician.

My aims as a teacher are to get you to where you want to be with the guidance I can offer, and at the same time giving you the skills required to develop even further in your own independent practice.
