Personal Description:
I have Special Needs University qualifications and counseling skills, which enables me to tutor students that may encounter emotional difficulties in their learning. I believe that motivation is the key factor to tutoring, as it needs to be addressed continuously in the process of learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor for the past 14 years preparing students for +11, +13 exams in English and Maths. I also teach Maths up to AS level (C1 and C2).

I am a certified therapist in PhonoGraphix method for addressing spelling and reading difficulties both for children and adults.

I could also help with learning computers (ECDL syllabus including usage of Word, PowerPoint, Internet, Excel).

Tutoring Approach:

I have Special Needs University qualifications and counselling skills, which enables me to tutor students that may encounter emotional difficulties in their learning. I believe that motivation is the key factor to tutoring, as it needs to be addressed continuously in the process of learning.

As a tutor, I encourage my students to reflect upon their mistakes and to understand how to tackle the next step of their learning, without having a negative response.

I usually have the first lesson together with the parents so that the student feels comfortable and parents can observe my teaching; I present a folder containing the CRB form, qualifications, QTS certificate and letters of recommendations from parents. I teach from home in a calm and stimulating environment.
The first lesson is only paid if the parent decides to continue tuition.

Personal Description:
Hello, I am a lecturer, writer and tutor based in Bristol. I enjoy working with students from many backgrounds and countries.

I currently work part-time in two Universities, and have been teaching for nearly ten years. I can help you revise for exams, with assignments and dissertations.

I like tutoring as I get to speak to interesting people who face a variety of academic challenges. In the past I have helped people online and over the phone, through Skype and face to face meetings.

Drop me a line and let's discuss what kind of help I can give.

Teaching Experience:

Before teaching I worked in publishing and journalism. I have written a book called 'How to work as a freelance journalist' and I used to manage a magazine so also have lots of practical business experience too.

I teach journalism, business and employability. Mostly tutees I meet want help with specific things such as revising for exams or completing a difficult assignment. Often it is a case of working together to help improve your grades and reach deadlines.

I have taught students from all over the world including China, Malaysia and Qatar. I enjoy meeting new people and am keen to make sure that you get what you want from tutoring.

I am currently studying for a Diploma in CPLHE (Certificate in Professional Learning and Higher Education).

Tutoring Approach:

Through this site I have worked with students to complete assignments, dissertation proposals, catch up on missed work, or understand academic ideas that they were struggling with.

I have also worked with many students via email and telephone. This means that you can tackle a little bit at a time, and save yourself money.

Please email first to see if I can help, I don't believe in taking anyone's money if I can't help, so please feel free to drop me a line.

Personal Description:
I am a jovial person who enjoys the vocation of teaching; I love to see the light go on in a learner. I am an Englishman abroad and wouldn't change where I live for a moment.

I am a keen musician (very amatuer) and my limited spare time is spent in my home studio mucking about and not getting anything actually achieved. I also enjoy the restoration of my house and garden which, like the Forth bridge, will never be finished!

I am a dog owner and nature lover and have a broad teaching style; I prefer the learner to dictate the style and I find the methods to fit.

Please feel free to ask questions.

Thank you

Teaching Experience:

I have been a teacher for over 20 years which culminated in a Head of Dept roll for 5 years (Business Studies). I have been very fortunate in my career to have taught all age groups many different subjects. I have returned to mainstream secondary education, teaching Business Studies and ICT following A level ICT at Coleg Menai and tutition for Single parents (charity) which has provided me with different skills and approaches rather than just formal classroom led instruction.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a holistic type and I always want the learner to be happy with an answer they give and know "why" the answer is correct. I hopefully bring humour (debatable) and a wide variety of methods to my teaching along with contemporary examples.

At present I am available in the evenings (Mon to Thurs, 5 to 8).

Please note that my prices include no additional travel expenses up to 15 miles from my home and I am perfectly happy to offer group discounts - the more learners the cheaper the individual cost.

Thanks for looking.

Personal Description:
I am South American; I came to UK back in 2000 and made Sheffield my home city. Nowadays I enjoy my family life as much as tutoring diverse disciplines such as the ones named in this site as well as Nutrition, Running and Football.

Definitely to have the opportunity to offer guidance, support and encouragement to those willing to learn and improve themselves is very fulfilling.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching both one-to-one and groups for a few years now in the disciplines named in this site. I prefer sessions to happen face-to-face but online is also fine with me.

Tutoring Approach:

First thing is to improve the tutee's self-confidence. Then to break down the big barriers into small knots that the tutee can undo with dedication and practice.

I encourage the can-do attitude. As someone once said - we do not know what we are capable of until we try.

Personal Description:
A postgraduate student at Cass Business School, studying Actuarial Science. Just graduated from University of Manchester with Mathematics with Finance.
As a native speaker of Mandarin and Cantonese, I grew up in Hong Kong and had been studied in Malaysia for 2 years and Hong Kong for the rest. In addition, I have 2 younger sisters as a eldest brother and therefore I do well in tutoring. In my past Foundation year, I gained A* in Pure Mathematics, and A* in Business Mathematics and A in Computer. I am convinced that my academic achievement makes me a good fit in tutoring Mathematics for GCSE/A-Level students.

Teaching Experience:

In past, in Hong Kong and Malaysia, I tutored friends and anyone who were around me in Mathematics, which gave me loads of chance to enhance my teaching approaches.
I taught in Manchester last 2 years as well.

Tutoring Approach:

I would be more than happy to go trough past exam papers and exercises as for Maths with students.
Surely, to prepare notes and advice certain study skills for the students in Mathematics. I reckon that tutoring in a friendly manner would enhance learning process instead of forcing the student to do as said. You are more then welcome to have a briefing before the first tuition in order to make sure we have the same goal.

Personal Description:
I have completed a Masters degree in Creative Writing. I completed my undergraduate studying BA Creative Writing and English Literature with 2:1. I'm aware that English and History are complex and intriguing subjects but I firmly believe that a thorough understanding and practise of techniques will enable to provide you with a firm base for any student to succeed. I am keen, conscientious, hardworking and reliable person.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately for over five years and currently have fifty seven students.
I have worked in a high school as a English Graduate Assistant and have had exposure to lesson and administration relating to the curriculum.
I have completed a Literacy Leadership Award and I was assessed on my ability to plan and prepare a literacy activity. I had to show communication and motivational skills through delivering literacy across the curriculum. Having observed teachers, I was able to learn interesting techniques that are used to teach Key stage 3 and 4 students. From this experience, I was taught how to plan and structure a lesson i.e. the starter, an introduction, an interactive main activity and the plenary; how to use verbal and non-verbal communication successfully .These rewarding experiences encouraged me to become an English teacher in the future. I have also worked closely with my peers on A Level courses such as English and History by delivering revision sessions and presenting my ideas on literary texts, articles and academic research.
.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tuition includes a variety of techniques and strategies in order to guide and motivate the learner. I will set personalised targets with my students and their parents in order to achieve the desired results. I also intend to provide you with a personalized programme that is best suited to your individual needs. I'm very enthusiastic and try to make learning a fun experience, using different ways of learning. Also, price can be negotiated.
"She's a good listener. She tries to make people understand something in a way that makes you feel comfortable. She involved everyone in the discussion even the quiet ones and always tries to find new ways of explaining things. Revision sessions were really useful and I think the main reason was because she just loves helping other people whether it is people younger or the same age. Everyone went home feeling slightly more confident about the exam including me. She makes sure that everybody understands even if it has to be explained more than once." (Aarti, 18, student)
"Charnjit has a way of making the impossible- possible. She is patient with her students and will try her hardest to make people understand. She has a way of teaching which involves a lot of group work and a one-one session where she will answer any questions from the stupidest to the smartest. After having few sessions with her I went into my exam confidently. Most importantly, she never gives up on anyone." (Rahwa, student)
"Charnjit's teaching style is unique and possesses many qualities. She is patient and constantly checks for understanding in order to go over things if the topic is not understood straight away. She uses a variety of techniques such as group brain storming in order to get the class involved which is very effective. During our group revision sessions she used this technique which worked well as it got everybody thinking, talking and interacting which was useful when remembering theorists and certain dates. She also categorised the theorists into groups based on their research which was also helpful for revision as it broke down the amount of theorists into smaller groups which were easier to remember. In addition, Charnjit is very good at keeping the class' attention which is very important as a teacher." (Stefanie, student)

Quality and cost-efficient tutoring for entrance and final exams, essays, dissertations, and hobby learning. Professional tutor with a university degree in teaching and over 20 years of experience.

Educated in the UK, Japan, Russia, Holland and Thailand, including a scholarship from the Japanese Ministry of Education. Currently a doctoral researcher at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for over 20 years. I teach Sociology, Anthropology and the Japanese language for A-levels and GSCE, and I also mentor undergrads, MA`s and PhD students. I help with essays, exams, dissertation writing, managing studies schedule, research techniques, etc.

I am also a certified Cross-Cultural Trainer, I coach business people on the practical aspects of doing business with the Japanese.

Tutoring Approach:

In my teaching approach, I make sure that you gain a solid understanding of the fundamentals, ground-level theory and research methods in Social Sciences. This will enable you to tackle any exam question or essay topic with confidence and excellent results. Subjects covered: Anthropology, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Media and Communication Studies, Area Studies, Psychosocial Studies, etc.

For language learning, I have a sure-fire time-tested approach that has served me and my students well for the last 20 years: comprehensive learning materials to make sure all bases are covered, a study schedule with clear goals to gauge your own progress, and tailor-made supervision to help you keep up with the ups and downs of language learning.

I coach undergrads, Master`s and PhD students for essays, dissertation and exams. That includes mentoring and advising throughout the whole process, i.e., how to get started, how to make a writing schedule and keep to it, how to meet the submission deadline without driving yourself crazy, etc.

I also give practical advice on a lot of technicalities and fine points: from looking for literature, to managing bibliography to really whatever question you may have. The study skills I help you acquire will serve you for the rest of your life. As a psychological counsellor, I give priority to listening and helping people with emotional security issues.

Personal Description:
Hello!

I have been told that I am an inspirational and motivating teacher. I love people and am passionate about my work which I manage to incorporate into an exciting yet balanced life. When not teaching I spend my time painting, singing, swimming, reading and travelling. My fourteen year old son, Charlie, attends our nearest Steiner school in Garlinge Green where he is very happy, I am delighted to say!

Teaching Experience:

I have been to Art College and also studied the four year BA in education at Christchurch in Canterbury, qualifying in 1994. I am therefore a qualified primary school teacher. I taught in several different primary schools before taking on a position as a drama teacher in a local secondary school. ( I have always been excited about all subjects and thus very happy to teach anything and everything!)

I was Head of Art at a local prep school for seven years, a super job, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have spent a few years teaching children with special needs which also gave me tremendous satisfaction, especially with regards to the social development of the children.

I am now working as a supply teacher as the flexibility suits my lifestyle perfectly.

Tutoring Approach:

Working with a person on a one to one basis is a luxury that has so many advantages. Unless, it has to be said, you are learning hockey skills, or something similar! Time is valuable and expensive, so, although relaxed, I am keenly aware that there is a lot of work that can be accomplished in one hour... the sense of satisfaction gained from work done, progression and obvious good results lead to a huge surge in confidence. It is my belief that it doesn't matter what area/field this is, only that it takes place, again, age is irrelevant too, five or fifty five, success is success and it makes us happy!

Personal Description:
A resident of Edinburgh for the past twelve years I enjoy meeting new people and learning new things myself. I am fairly well travelled, enjoy the arts and have a passion for working alongside others to help them achieve their goals.

I am a professional actor with degree level qualifications in both Philosophy (Dundee University) and Acting (Queen Margaret University College).

Teaching Experience:

I have worked with adults in improving spoken and written English for UK degree entry level. I have also worked with college and university students in the Middle East (UAE) to train science and drama education in both Arabic and English.

For several years I have visited schools in both the public and private sectors delivering reading, drama and science communication classes.

I have regularly taught 5-15 years drama in private classes and enjoy working with pre-drama school entrants of all ages in working on giving the best entrance audition possible.

Tutoring Approach:

I am confident at creating a structured approach that works with a pupil's own strengths and needs to provide a tailor-made package for learning.

Ideally I meet with each student to discuss their learning needs, current level and expected outcomes.

Although it is important to push the boundaries of learning, it should always be a workload that is both manageable and individually tailored.

People learn best when they are enjoying themselves, so I try my best to make learning fun and interactive.

Personal Description:
Hello. My name is Carol and I'm a transplanted American. I've lived in the UK for over 10 years and I absolutely love it. My daughter Grace lives in Edinburgh with her husband and wee baby boy. And my son Elijah is 24 and lives here in London, studying fashion at Royal College of Art.

I love to cook and entertain friends. I go to the cinema a lot with my son or with friends and I try to get to the theatre at least four or five times a year. I cycle everywhere, and making things look homely and inviting brings me great joy. I read a great variety of things and watch fascinating documentaries. And if I could, I'd travel the world continuously to soak in all the amazing cultures and languages and traditions of the world.

I currently tutor English to students from a variety of countries and language backgrounds.

Teaching Experience:

I homeschooled both my children for fourteen years total. If success is measured by the outcome, my children are proof of my tutoring ability. Grace went on to graduate from University of Edinburgh with a 4 year degree in English Literature and History. Elijah graduated from Northampton University with a First in Fashion Design and is now a graduate student at Royal College of Arts. I tutored every subject to them, and also taught group tutoring sessions in Geography, Earth Science and History.
When my children went on higher education, I retrained as a TESOL teacher, the highest level to teach English as a Foreign Language. I've worked in English schools here in London and taught to the FCE exam as well as privately tutoring English to businessmen and woman from around the world.
I've been teaching now for 22 years, mostly tutoring one-on-one.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that everyone has the capacity to learn anything if it's taught to their learning style and consciousness. None of us sees things the same way....and none of us can absorb things by the same method as another person. It's crucial to understand a person's 'grid', or the way they learn. That only comes from observed feedback: that's when someone who is learning something new digests it and then gives it back in some way (an essay, a written assignment, or a verbal recounting) to show understanding. I call that 'the lightbulb moment'.

I also think that being relaxed and having fun while learning is so important. Good humour is a key to learning. When we are enjoying the company and the environment, our sensors are up and our receptors are open! It's a refreshing and invigorating experience, not a draining one.

The relationship between the tutor and student needs to be safe. It should feel like a safe place to make mistakes or to say, 'I don't understand.' Or to feel very, very excited about understanding something for the first time without being made to feel like 'it's about time.'

I believe in academic success, measured by passing tests, but not limited by them.

Personal Description:
I am an A-level student with high hopes for the future. I believe all kids deserve a chance to succeed, and I wihs to help them the very best I can. I am positive, friendly and approachable, laid back and easy to get along with. I love to learn and I wish to help your children to learn to!

Teaching Experience:

I am an English Mentor at my 6th form for the lower years, teaching spelling, grammar, synonyms and essay writing. I help them prepare notes and help them study for their upcoming exams. I am also helping out at Homework club for the year sevens and eights, who appreciate my help!

Tutoring Approach:

I will ask what they are struggling with, how they think I should help them and what they need to work on. I will ask them to do a practise essay question and I will check through it, and go through their mistakes and what they need to do to correct it. I will create a list of what they need to focus on the most and the least, and rotate each tutoring session as such. One day spelling, one day sentence structure, one day editing, and so on.

Personal Description:
I grew up in south-west London, in Twickenham, before attending Tiffin School (Kingston-Upon-Thames) and Cambridge University, where I was awarded my BA (Hons) degree in History of Art. I have always engaged with extracurricular activities with enthusiasm, something which my educational institutions have given me ample opportunity to do.

My main passion has been acting. It has provided many opportunities to meet and get to know a huge range of different people, all in a challenging, intense environment. Fundamentally, it is the opportunity to engage with the perspective of another person and to attempt to embody this in actions and speech. It requires a performer to listen to and work with others on stage, and to work within a flexible, productive relationship - this is essential for any student-teacher relationship, as a dialogue begins to emerge.

My other interests have similarly complemented my academic pursuits: I have played rugby union for 14 years, up to and including university level, and used to play the french horn in the school orchestra. Both activities gave me an opportunity to voice my individual contribution to the group whilst working within a team, invaluable experience for academic discussion as well as confidence in many other areas of life. They offer different approaches to problem solving and develop some of the broader skills essential for academic success, such as self-expression, articulation, flexibility and confidence.

Teaching Experience:

My experience includes working with primary school students (age 4-6), through a voluntary program at secondary school. This involved helping children to learn to read. The weekly session required empathy and flexibility on my part, demanding an understanding that each child`s ability was completely unique, and that my approach needed to be modified to fit each person. In particular, I had to cultivate patience and a desire to listen and to understand everything the child was saying.

Whilst at university I also participated in a student run mentoring scheme, which gave unprivileged children the opportunity to understand life and work at Cambridge. It was a fascinating opportunity to understand some of the social and personal blocks to academic confidence, as well as offering ways in which these problems might be developed and overcome. Most importantly, it was a joyful experience to be able to help a younger person, and to understand that they were a unique person with their own approach to problems and solutions. By listening to him, I gradually learnt the ways in which they best communicated and how I could use those situations to our advantage as a student-teacher pair.

More recently, I have participated in a student-run university theatre tour which also comprised educational workshops. These workshops were a much bigger part of the tour than we had originally thought, and proved to be challenging at times. This was partly from the language barrier (many classes spoke little to no English, and were often too embarrassed to speak at all), but also from the unpredictable nature of the students. We had to work on our feet, employing what resources we had in a way which was meaningful, cumulative and ultimately led to an end. Our exercises required an overall structure and an ultimate purpose, but we also wanted to adjust this according to their reactions. Though I initially found this challenging, towards the end of the tour I could take charge of workshops and lead them with ease.

Tutoring Approach:

Teaching and intellectual discussion have always been an important part of my family life, and it is an activity which I enjoy on a personal as well as professional level. My time at university has developed my ability to think in this way, as well as providing an environment in which I was surrounded by these kinds of discussion, with both professors and students. The emphasis on close-contact supervision periods at Cambridge taught me the importance of helping each student understand their individual form of expression.

I would avoid didactic repetition and seek to challenge the student and invite them to contribute. As well as work done outside the tutoring time period, I would encourage tasks such as presentations and prepared discussions as much as possible. I believe this work lays an essential base for passionate intellectual discussion, and it is something which certainly helped me in my university interview.

Coupled with this development of interest in particular subject areas, I would try to help the student's method of arguing and offer sustained, constructive advice on how that might be more effective. A university candidate is only as successful as their ability to communicate effectively and succinctly, something which may require exercises as different as confidence building or syntax and grammar. But as well as this self-belief and self expression, the student would need to acknowledge that academic (and educational) progress can be achieved by listening to others and attempting to understand their point of view. This dialogic aspect is essential to my tutoring approach.
