Personal Description:
I have a degree both in English and Turkish languages. I teach English and Turkish to second language speakers.I have 2 years teaching experience in Turkey and 15 years in the UK.I teach Turkish in Beginners, Intermediate, advanced and proficiency levels. The lessons are specifically prepared according to the learners' abilities as each individual is different and has different learning skills. Personal Description:
I'm a 21 year old male born and raised in London (and so have a very easy to understand accent). I have been studying Computer Science (a very mathematics-based subject) at Newcastle University for almost four years and am currently about to complete my masters. For my A-levels I studied Maths, Further Maths and Computing.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored in the past with GCSE and A-level mathematics, and having almost completed university, I am looking forward to tutoring once again. I have taken part in several mentor schemes where I supported younger students with their academic problems in Mathematics. This includes the "buddy maths" scheme which i took part in during Sixth Form where I was assigned a buddy whom I had to tutor throughout their GCSE Mathematics. I also tutored A-Level maths during Sixth Form for a year. On top of this, I have helped peers throughout my degree, aiding them in completing their work to a high standard.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very organised approach to tutoring, with small goals set per session, as well as a long term goal to work towards. For younger students, I feel that relaxed but structured sessions are important, with small breaks so that focus is kept. I also ensure that the lessons are as fun as possible. I always work towards building a good relationship with my students, and encourage them to ask questions without any hesitation. I adapt my approach depending on my students' learning style as I feel this is the key to successful teaching. Past papers are definitely a step in the right direction, as well as looking at the syllabus/specifications for the subject. I spend a lot of time planning for sessions so that my student gets the very best out of each lesson.

Personal Description:
I'm Nick. I'm a final-year PhD student in Mathematics at Newcastle in Quantum Computing, which is a subject nestled between physics, computer science and maths. I support myself to study by teaching, and by playing guitar and bass in several function and wedding bands in the north east.

In sciences, I was invited in 2003 to train for the International Mathematics Olympiad at the University of Bath. I then studied in Scotland, having been offered a scholarship to study at the University of St Andrews, where I was awarded an undergraduate research fellowship, moving to the University of Glasgow for my master's degree by research, transferring partway through to the PhD programme at Newcastle University. Meanwhile, I've tutored mathematics, chemistry, engineering, physics and economics at over half a dozen top domestic universities, and given guest lectures at dozens more.

In music, I've been the recipient of the Mervyn Stutter Spirit of the Fringe award at the Edinburgh Fringe as part of the multi-five-star-rated production "Blues!". I've also featured as a recorded artist on national one, and played live across the country in clubs and at festivals, and on BBC Radio One.

Teaching Experience:

I've about 13 years' experience teaching maths, computer science, bioinformatics, chemistry, physics, music theory and practice and several instruments.

I've tutored high-school exams and university entrance exams as well as modules at St Andrews, Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian, York, Bristol and Newcastle. I've also lectured and led small-group tutorials at Newcastle and Glasgow.

I specialise in adult learners and exam preparation, and have an in-depth knowledge of the UCAS process and university admissions, in particular the entrance exams required to study hard sciences at British universities. If you have specific needs, I'm happy to answer any questions.

Tutoring Approach:

I emphasise a whole-education approach to the tutoring process, focusing on fundamentals and encouraging the student to test themselves, using a process of see-do-teach and often going slightly beyond the scope of the prescribed syllabus, as far as the student's curiosity demands. I set exercises every week, and demand a modest, but sustained commitment to improvement from the student outside of their normal coursework - a small amount of discipline in this area has an observable effect on confidence and skill almost immediately.

I supplement my subject-matter expertise with a rounded knowledge of pedagogy and techniques for studying, and experience working with struggling students. Beyond the learning process, I also offer a gamified perspective on examination technique, which is something vital to academic success that many students lack awareness of, even up to an advanced undergraduate level.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate of the Newcastle University BMus (Hons) Folk and Traditional Music where I specialised in Scottish traditional fiddle music. I am both an experienced teacher and performer, having performed at various festivals throughout the country. I am comfortable playing in a variety of musical styles and I am happy to tailor lessons to the interests of each individual pupil.

Teaching Experience:

During the past five years I have taught a range of age groups from young school pupils to adults in both one to one lessons and group settings. I have also had a great deal of experience teaching beginners, most recently the Bellingham Middle School Ceilidh Band. During my later years of school I assisted with a young children's string orchestra and also an intermediate traditional music group. As part of my degree I have studied different techniques of teaching traditional music within the community.

Tutoring Approach:

The initial lesson provides an opportunity for both myself and the pupil to discuss any past musical experiences and also understand what they wish to gain from future lessons. I plan my lessons around the interests of the pupil which in return allows them to get the most out of their lessons. Whilst I strongly believe that there are benefits to reading notation, I also teach by ear and am happy to focus on this if a pupil so wishes. I encourage my pupils to bring along any music they wish to learn in addition to their set pieces.

I offer hour long lessons, suggesting a starting point of half an hour for beginners. Groups lessons are possible.

Personal Description:
My name is Danny and I am a PhD student in the Faculty of Engineering and Environment, Northumbria University. I have been receiving the scholarship from the university to do the research on micro mechanics and novel materials. Using a lot of engineering knowledge, I'm confident in encouraging young people going ahead with STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).

Teaching Experience:

Going back to the time before my PhD course, being a tutor on Maths and Physics since I was an undergraduate student, I helped many GCSE students (i.e. KS2 and KS3) improve their grades. I'm now revising the combined sciences for some Year 11 students who're taking the exam soon. In addition, I got many experiences in lecturing in the university of Technology and Education (I worked as an assistant lecturer in 2010-2011, right after my graduation, and a lecturer in 2012-2014).

Tutoring Approach:

Various methods can be applied depending on each student, but the general approach is connecting all the lessons on the same topic to a common picture. To do that, I usually explain the relevant concepts visually and link them together. In addition, a variety of examples will be provided to clarify the lessons. Some advanced questions will be supplied to develop their knowledge.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching and tutoring A-level chemistry for 11 years. I specialise in the AQA exam board and work as an examiner and adviser to schools. I have also been teaching online for 5 years using the EvoTuition tutoring platform and have new digital teaching resources for 2016. I previously taught at Durham University and received the Durham University Teaching and Learning Award in 2011. I now tutor exclusively for AQA due to my work for this exam board (since 2013 I no longer offer tuition for OCR, Edexcel or CIE boards).

Over the years I have tutored hundreds of A-level chemistry students. My lessons are based around developing exam technique as well as improving understanding. Last year, I produced a full set of new teaching resources and practise questions for the new AQA specification, which I share with all my students (the new specification started in September 2015). Personal Description:
Hi

I have just finished a PhD in maths at Newcastle University so it goes without saying I'm enthusiastic about both maths and physics. On top of this I have a wide variety of interests, and this allows me to find ways of explaining things that the people I'm tutoring can relate to.

Teaching Experience:

While studying at Newcastle I've taken many tutorials for students taking courses in Maths. For the past 6 years I've also worked in a tutoring drop-in centre where any student at Newcastle University can come to ask maths questions. I've always enjoyed this work as over the course of a day I can be asked how to apply maths to many problems from mechanical engineering to fine arts!

I have also done a lot of private tuition of A-levels for all of the major examining boards. I have often got this work from referral of satisfied customers.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed and friendly tutoring style.

I usually find students learn best by working through questions or examples, but I am also happy provide teaching of entire subjects from scratch. So if you're having trouble understand the material needed to pass an exam/assignment or wanting to learn about a subject from start to finish I will be able to help.

Personal Description:
I did my undergraduate degree at St Andrews University and postgrad at Durham University; I've just returned from a year on research in the US. I love teaching and work for the Open University, which involves finding innovative ways to teach a large range of topics to students from 18 to 70 years old, which always makes for an interesting experience. I'm living in Newcastle and love the North East in general.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching at degree level since 2002, I have over 250 hours of face-to-face teaching experience.

I also have a Durham Teaching and Learning Award, a peer- and student- nominated annual prize given to 3-5 teachers in the university to recognise outstanding achievement.

I've taught in both the Philosophy and Theology & Religion departments of Durham University, as well as teaching Introductions to Arts & Humanities for the Open University. I frequently teach study skills and help address specific students' concerns about how to improve.

My experience also includes work in the Access/Widening Participation arena, and I have taught a variety of topics for the 14-18 age range, including work on the Sutton Trust Summer School programme.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is best summed up as "everyone is different". Finding out what someone enjoys, what they're good at, and how they think, is the first step in helping them get the most they can out of any topic or situation. The ways that people learn, and the things that fire their imaginations, are diverse - but the expectations of coursework and exams don't always recognise that. I see my job as not simply preparing people to pass a test or master a skill, but as helping them to discover what works best for them as a student, and giving them the confidence to approach new challenges successfully.

Personal Description:
I studied Theology at both Leeds Trinity College and Durham University, where I achieved a First Class Honours degree and later Merit. After doing regular guest teaching and classroom assistance, I took the PTLLS Level 4 at the Advance Training Academy and began tutoring in 2014. Since then I have taught people from Cramlington, Durham, Dunston, Gateshead, and Sunderland (to name just a few examples). Each of my students has steadily increased their grades, achieving A*-C.

My aim is to provide first quality tuition in Religious Studies and Philosophy and to help people become more confident in these subjects. I am an individual who is committed to making education a lasting experience rather than a lecture to be endured. My experiences have taught me that each student has the potential to grow and change. To that end I take on students of all dispositions, from the confident and capable to nervous and struggling type.

I am based in the North East of England and offer face-to-face tuition to anyone in this region. However, I offer online tuition to people from other regions (Skype, phone or email).

If you want extra help, email me and we can set up an ice-breaker session. Each lesson from then onwards is specifically tailored to your learning style. We can then focus on a combination of extra content and exam technique. I will continuously ask for feedback to make sure that you are satisfied with the quality of service.

Consider the benefits of having a tutor:
Raise your grades
Increase your self-confidence
Access to continuous support and advice

Why use me personally?
I am patient, creative, and dedicated in helping all students be successful. I have worked with diverse sets of students with wide range of needs. Therefore I am able to work with students of all abilities as I am flexible and adaptable to different settings.
My lessons are very comprehensive. You will typically be given a handout on the relevant topic, discussion and past paper questions and a background on the key critical thinkers. They are each adjusted to your learning style, so we can get quite creative!

I am DBS checked and can provide references upon request.

Teaching Experience:

My experience is threefold:
Classroom assistance: I did classroom work at Gateshead Volunteering and Opportunities Centre and New College Durham (2013). My duties involved: helping struggling students with classroom activities, helping them to express themselves and dealing with classroom behavioural issues. When working with students, I was noted for being approachable, compassionate, kind and patient.
Guest teaching: I gave regular guest lessons in Theology and Religious studies at Leeds Trinity University College, Jesmond Methodist Church, Gosforth High School and the Royal Grammar School (2011-14). My lessons were recognised as well-prepared, thought-provoking, and thorough.
Personal tutoring: since I started tutoring in the North East, I have taught students from Cramlington, Durham, Dunston, Gateshead, Gosforth, and Sunderland. I have also given online tuition to students at various regions of the UK (2013-). See testimonials for clients' views on me.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer two types of tuition:
Face-to-face: tuition is conducted at the student's home. It is always good practice to have an adult around the house. Face-to-face tuition is available to any student within reasonable travelling distance of Newcastle City Centre.
Online: tuition is conducted via phone, Skype and email (depending on the client preference). Online tuition is available to any student in the UK.

Each lesson is tailored to individual needs. The preliminary meeting will focus on your learning needs, and from this we will establish your goals for the tuition and the process for helping you to meet them. We will discuss how we can make the sessions play to your individual learning styles and strengths.

In lessons, we usually focus on two specific areas:
Extra teaching: we will usually have a discussion on a particular topic.
You will be given a detailed hand-out, some discussion questions, and (if necessary) a brief background on the important key thinkers.
Essay-writing: I will provide an essay-writing formula, which we will then
apply to past-paper questions, which will support you to write essays based on past exam papers. As part of the service, I will review the answer and provide detailed feedback to support further learning.

Testimonies from previous tutees:

"Michael has been an incredibly reliable tutor, the lessons were very well planned and clearly thought out. It was very helpful that he was willing to cater to individual learning styles and willing to respond to feedback. I think that he would be most helpful for those doing GCSEs and A Levels. Overall, a positive experience, he put in maximum effort to the tutoring sessions."

Hannah.

"You always prepared for each session sending materials prior to the tutoring. You are a very committed teacher, dedicated and caring. You impressed Anna with your knowledge and broadened and deepened her thoughts and ideas as well as her vocabulary. She would not have achieved her grade B if it was not for you. Thank you so much for all your help and support."

Ann

"Michael is a dedicated, supportive and patient tutor, and took the time to create tutoring sessions which were designed with jack's learning style in mind. Michael gave excellent advice and guidance in his subject in preparation for both the AS RE exam, but also essay writing techniques for A2 as he knew this was an area which Jack needed help in developing his skills. I would have no hesitation in recommending Michael's services to anyone. Thank you Michael for your help and support!"

Suzanne

"Rachel was home educated and had chosen Religious Studies as a GCSE in February and the exam was in June so she and Michael had their work cut out for them! Michael worked with Rachel helping her to direct her studies and fill in the gaps of her knowledge. He discussed concepts to give her a more well-rounded understanding of the subject and helped her structure her answers for a GCSE exam. He did all this in an engaging manner which resulted in Rachel developing a real interest and enjoyment of the subject and she achieved an A* in her exam! Michael is a very dedicated and supportive tutor and we would highly recommend him!"

Sharon

"Michael gives my son Joe tutoring, which Joe was rather dubious about to begin with, however it is working well. He is studying for A levels and has dyslexia, I wanted a tutor that could vary their teaching method to accommodate a dyslexic learner and he has done that. Michael clarifies at the start of each session what will be covered, ensures that is what my son requires and at the end that he has understood the session."

Personal Description:
I am a University graduate with a first class degree in Politics from Northumbria University. I completed a very well-received dissertation on the subject of citizenship in America. I plan on beginning a Master's degree in Political Theory at the University of Manchester in the next academic year.

Teaching Experience:

While taking my A levels I was a prefect, and my duties included helping English students in years seven and eight with their work. My Politics A level was self-taught with two other students. While at University I have served on the committee of the Debating society, where aside from helping students express their ideas, the training also often involved providing concise explanations of current events and related political theories.
I have worked with the veteran's charity Forward Assist, teaching political understanding and general knowledge to veterans to help them in civilian life.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring is tailored according to the student's needs - whether these are to gain a broad understanding of a subject, prepare for a specific assessment in a particular area, or to develop skills applicable to many subject areas.

Personal Description:
I'm Pauline, and I specialise in French and biology. It sounds an odd combination, but read on and I'll tell you more.

For French - I'm half French and am fluent in the language having started with "survival French" at the age of five to stop my cousins from persecuting me, and then studying it at both GCSE (A* grade) and A-level (A grade). I go to France regularly and enjoy reading news articles in French. For lessons, I usually mix in reading, speaking, listening and grammar, as well as some history, geography and French current affairs to bring it to life. I am also available to practice speaking French, to improve your accent. I can teach both students for exam prep and adults if you're going to France and need some help with asking for directions and a coffee/glass of wine!

For biology - I again studied at GCSE and A-level and then did three degrees in the general field of biology! My PhD was in biomechanics so I specialise in biomechanics, anatomy and physiology, muscle and exercise science and cardiovascular; but feel free to contact me and we can discuss what you need. I can even teach plant science! I have worked with GCSE and A-level students for many years and am familiar with most common exam board questions. I am happy to go through past papers for exam practice. I have most experience with AQA exam board questions but can easily adapt to other boards.

I'm patient and friendly and use a flexible approach so you learn at your speed. Having obtained my PhD, I can relate to students and the specific pressures they face. I am DBS checked and can supply references on request.

Lessons are 25 per hour per person and 40 for two hours, including travel in and around Newcastle. There will be a small charge to cover my fuel for a longer drive, but I'm happy to discuss.

I may not be the cheapest but I'm experienced, patient, friendly and flexible - I'd rather be good than cheap!

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring since 2008, working with a variety of ages and in a range of topics from French tuition to sports coaching. I have taught over 30 students, both school students and adults, and have excellent references.

Tutoring Approach:

I will work closely with you to achieve your goals, if that's to improve in the subject for its own sake, to pass an exam or even to be able to order in French at a restaurant. During the first session we'll agree on a timetable and set specific goals. We'll set aside a few minutes during each subsequent session to assess our progress. I am patient, friendly and reliable and above all I love teaching!

Personal Description:
Hello, I've just finished a 1 year masters course in mathematics at Cambridge university although I began my undergraduate studies with an adventure to Nottingham to study medicine. I graduated from Nottingham in 2006 but during my first year of work rethought my career plan and decided to switch to maths. I completed my first year as a junior doctor (the 'F1' year) and then returned to Newcastle to study maths. I graduated top of my year from Newcastle's 4 year maths masters program with a first class honours degree in June 2014. After spending a year tutoring maths I went to Cambridge to do the 1 year masters (part III, focussing mainly on algebra and number theory) which I successfully completed. Having done 2 degrees I'm no stranger to studying and exams and after finishing my course I thought it would be fun to spend some time tutoring in a subject I love.

Teaching Experience:

I began tutoring in the university's maths drop in service 'Maths Aid' earlier this year after taking a 2 day course on tutoring provided by the university. Over the summer holiday I tutored undergraduate students for exams in both engineering and statistics and I also have experience tutoring A-level mathematics. I also spent some of my time in Nottingham teaching medical students practical skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed, friendly approach to tutoring. I normally find that working through examples helps to both reinforce the material and to suggest new topics to discuss and practice but if you prefer a different approach to learning I'd be happy to discuss that with you.
