Personal Description:
I'm an enthusiastic and hardworking individual with extensive academic and teaching experience. I was awarded a PhD in politics in 2016 and currently work as a researcher for the NHS in the Leeds area.

My PhD was funded by a scholarship at the University of Westminster and prior to that I completed an MA in political philosophy at York University, again funded by a scholarship. I also studied politics and sociology at Leeds University and gained a prize for the highest mark in my graduate year, out of a pool of over 200 students.

Besides my academic work, I have worked for a number of think-tanks as a researcher on a variety of subjects, from economics to geopolitics. Working for think-tanks in and around Westminster provided me with a good understanding of public policy making and advocacy.

I also have a lot of experience of voluntary and charity work and enjoy a range of hobbies, including the guitar and a number of sports.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience of teaching and in 2015 received a university award for teaching excellence, voted by the students themselves. Over the past five years I have worked as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Westminster on the first year module "Introduction to Political Theory" and the second year module "Political Research Methods". The work involves planning lessons and tailoring them to the needs of my students, teaching and facilitating debate in class, and providing students with advice regarding their university work. I also have extensive experience of marking assessments and dissertations which stands me in good stead to give advice to university students.

Additionally, I have a TEFL qualification and before going to university I taught English for three months in Bolivia. I've since taught English in Israel and the Palestine. Furthermore, I worked as a guitar teacher for a number of years and have vast experience of giving presentations, lectures and seminars, both at university and in the workplace.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor lessons to students' interests and needs, and try and make learning as fun as possible. Well structured and planned, the lessons proceed logically and the contents are explained as clearly and concisely as possible. Discussion and debate are actively sought. I also provide advice on generic academic skills such as researching, crafting an essay and delivering presentations.

I am a student at the University of Oxford reading German. For my A Levels I studied German, English Literature and History and received A*, A* and an A. For AS I also did Mathematics and for my GCSE's I studied: Maths, Dual Science, English Literature, English Language, German, French, History, Art and Drama.

Teaching Experience:

I worked in a primary school for 6 months in my gap year, primarily teaching reading, writing and mathematics to the younger years as well as art, sport and IT skills. Previous to this job, I taught a German club at a local primary school and have worked on a charity literacy scheme, where I tutored reading and writing one on one to a child who was underachieving for his age group. I have also done other volunteer tutoring at a primary school, reading one on one with the children and improving their literacy skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it is best to discuss together what you feel you need help with or needs to be worked on and from there we can assess how best to proceed. I prefer you to bring your own material to me as from this I can see what it is you are struggling with, how advanced your school work is and the level you are aiming for.

Personal Description:
Everyone calls me Olu, I am young, friendly but strict (I don't know where that came from). I am a doctorate degree student of Nuclear Robotics. I bagged a distinction in my Masters degree and a first class in my Bachelor's program all thanks to those I have taught during revision. You know I have noticed that you study harder when you study to teach others.

So yes, in the area of academics, I have come a long way, learning and teaching, the cycle never ends. I enjoy meeting new people and sharing knowledge, this is one thing I do with passion..<< don't tell anyone >>.

I do not only consider teaching as a Job, but also as a hobby as it is fun making people understand what they had thought was confusing.

Teaching Experience:

My Teaching Experience dates back to my days as an A'Level student preparing for the GCE Cambridge A'Levels Exam in 2005. I made sure I carried all my colleagues along by conducting regular free tutorials.

When I got into the University, I continued. Every other evenings and every weekend, I would take part in tutorial sessions for my colleagues and sometimes for junior colleagues. This I did from 2006 to 2011.

In 2012, I registered as an Online-Tutor and have engaged a number of students in America and UK on mathematics and engineering related subjects. Not to mention that I have been involved in peer revision meetings all through my post graduate days at the University of Manchester where I took charge of conducting Mock Examinations.

To me, this has been fun.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is very very simple:

Step 1: Ask you what area you have problems with.
Step 2: Tell you to go on and teach me the aspects you know and even the aspects you do not know.
Step 3: I will take note of your strengths and weaknesses.
Step 4: Leave the rest to me, the tutorials would be worth the time and pay.

PS: Many times, from experience, students think they have problems with a topic, but all they have is just "no confidence about what they know". That is where we come in, to restore your confidence in the things you know and add to it. Hence, my best approach is to keep the interaction "both-ways".

Personal Description:
Hi, my name is Sophie. I am a 2nd year student of Biochemistry at Edinburgh University, having just finished my gap year working at IBM. I love to spend my spare time either on the hockey pitch, in the kitchen or doing some art.

Teaching Experience:

Student science tutor for 2 years whilst at school
Summer Camp Leader for 3 years running, experience with international children.
Leader at Cubs, Brownies, Beavers and Rainbows
Work experience at an Adult Learning Centre

Tutoring Approach:

It has been my experience, both as a tutor and as a student, that the best way to engage with learning is to understand your working style. I personally have found certain aspects of school quite challenging but by finding the methods that most suited my needs, I was able to maximize my learning potential.

My tutoring style emphasizes collaboration and positive reinforcement in order to produce a friendly learning environment.

From my charity work abroad in Ghana to my role as Deputy Head Girl at my secondary school, I have gained the interpersonal skills necessary to develop productive and compassionate relationships with pupils. Students will find themselves excited for their lessons and eager to achieve new standards of excellence.

Personal Description:
My name is Carolina, my mother language is Spanish and I am 34 years old. I am a qualified Spanish tutor and I cover both Castilian Spanish and Latin American Spanish. I love languages and being able to teach Spanish is an enriching experience for me and I want to carry on learning other languages myself as it is a totally open door to the world and it is what I like to transmit to each of my students.

Teaching Experience:

I have a wide experience teaching and assisting English teachers and other subjects in my hometown so I know how to give a personal value to each of my students as everyone is different and unique and I am completely conscious of the different teaching methods suitable for individual needs. Teaching and learning a language should be enjoyable and fun, with plenty of opportunities to make and correct mistakes without embarrassment and always with a wide-open window for the communication, which is the base of any language.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe learning a new language is a challenge for anyone and for some people could be easy to comprehend certain things and not so easy other type of things, but when learning the language in a context, where the student is able to see the full picture of the form of the language and be able to explore why its the way it is, is what I strongly believe is the best method of learning. A word on its own does not mean anything in any language, but when you put it on a context, then it takes shape, a nice shaped like a puzzle.

My position as an assessment specialist with two of the major exam boards has enhanced further my understanding of how credit is awarded in exams - enabling me to not only improve students' subject knowledge, but to improve their approach to exam questions as well.

I take a positive and friendly approach to tuition, and am happy to be flexible in using the methods that best suit the student.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor since attending university in Exeter, and have helped students to improve on their grade by up to 3 grade boundaries over time.

I taught professionally for two and a half years, training through the prestigious Teach First programme. My progress was judged as outstanding. I was consistently judged good/outstanding, both internally and by Ofsted, and I was a lead teacher in my last role.

Tutoring Approach:

Largely, this will depend on what the student is hoping to achieve. I appreciate that, most often, a student's aim is to achieve a certain grade in an exam. In these cases, I will spend a lot of time working with the student to familiarise them not only with the material for the exam, but with the format of the exam paper, exploring how to approach different types of question and working directly with mark schemes to best understand how credit is awarded.

I am, however, passionate about my subject, and aim to uncover some enthusiasm for the sciences with all my students, through engaging sessions in which we can explore topics in perhaps more detail than is often possible within schools.

Personal Description:
I grew up in North Wales until the age of 11, I then went to live in Tenerife, Spain and did all my studies up to University there and am proficient in both English and Spanish.

I have taught English as a second language in Tenerife, Spain from 2006 to 2014, to learners of all ages, from one to one lessons to small groups, as a self-employed tutor.

I have also done after-school English classes at a local Spanish school, worked in various nurseries teaching infants from 2 years of age and have been in charge of an English summer camp where children learn through crafts, sport and activities.

I started teaching because of the high demand from people needing native speaking English tutors in the Spanish city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and have taught myself grammar and different teaching methods, improving with experience.

Teaching Experience:

In April 2016 I obtained a 140-hour premier TEFL course certificate and I'm currently doing a Degree in English Studies at a Spanish University to become an English-Spanish linguist. In June 2016 I got the Distinction in the Intermediate Level Certificate in Welsh.

I have experience teaching conversation, grammar, vocabulary. Improving fluency for interviews and travelling abroad. Preparation of Cambridge and language school exams, and reinforcement of schoolwork.

In 2014 I moved back to North Wales to be near my family, I have been learning Welsh at Bangor University and I'm continuing my career by teaching Spanish locally in small groups and one to one lessons, and also teaching ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) online.

Tutoring Approach:

I give a variety of interactive lessons where you can put into practice all of the language skills necessary to become fluent and have an active Spanish & ESOL learning experience.

Personal Description:
I am an Oxbridge graduate and dedicated teacher and tutor of Classics. I completed my undergraduate degree at Robinson College, University of Cambridge and hope to soon complete an MA in History of Art. Outside of my teaching and tuition work, I am a firm believer in lifelong learning and am currently attending an Italian evening class, to improve my understanding of the language.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified teacher, holding a PGCE from the University of Cambrige and Qualified Teacher Status. I have 3 years of teaching experience, including at two top grammar schools (The Tiffin Girls' School and Chelmsford County High School for Girls). I have taught Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation across all Key Stages, and have extensive experience of preparing students for public examinations. My most recent cohort of students achieved 78% at A* and 100% at grades A* - B at GCSE; 100% of my A Level students achieved grades A* - B. In addition, I have 5 years of experience of private tuition, ranging from preparing students for university applications in Classics to building confidence in both Latin and Greek for younger pupils. I have prepared numerous students for university and Oxbridge applications and specialise in interview preparation.
I have also taught at Latin Camp for the last 3 years during the summer holidays, as I am a firm believer in every student having the ability and opportunity to learn Latin - I am dedicated to my subject and enjoy the opportunity to share ideas and resources with my colleagues, to ensure that I continue to develop my teaching practice.
My particular teaching research interests focus on tailoring language tuition to students who do not speak English as a first language and developing understanding of learners from different cultures, in order to ensure that they achieve their academic best.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to cater for the needs of each student as an individual learner; no two students are the same and, from my experience both as a classroom teacher and as a private tutor, I understand the importance of preparing tasks that will help, stretch and challenge the individual. I am a firm believer in ensuring that the basics of language learning are strong, with a focus on grammatical knowledge and understanding. I understand that students have different barriers to learning and aims and ambitions they wish to realise, and I ensure to take these into consideration when preparing lessons and learning activities.
When learning Latin and Greek, recall of accidence, syntax and vocabulary is crucial to ensure that reading Classical texts, the aim of learning ancient languages, comes naturally. I am very patient and understand from my own learning of Classical languages that everyone has their own particular areas of difficulty; I aim to help students through understanding tricky constructions and reading challenging texts with patience, humour and dedication. For students entering public examinations, past paper practice is key and I ensure that students are as well prepared as they can be. For Oxbridge applicants, interview practice and contemplating issues surrounding the subject, along with experience of reading classical texts under pressure in a test or interview environment, is important to ensure that they shine during the interview process.
Regardless of the level that the student is working at, be it beginning learning Latin or Greek, sitting their Classical Civilisation A Level or preparing for an Oxbridge interview, I am a firm believer in drawing out the full potential of all my tutees and aim to help students achieve their very best.

Personal Description:
I am a first year medical student at Glasgow university with experience in tutoring children and young adults. Due to the fact I have just finished my high school exams, achieving very good grades, the course content and exam structures are still fresh in my mind which is what makes me a good choice of tutor for anyone studying the new Curriculum for Excellence Scottish courses. I am a very friendly and approachable person and genuinely enjoy tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

I have au paired for the last two summers in Spain, giving daily language, maths and science tutoring lessons to children from the ages of four to sixteen. In addition to this last year I self taught my self two SQA advanced highers - Spanish and chemistry - and achieved the necessary grades to study medicine.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is the same method I use everyday when studying for my degree. I find that fully grasping concepts and ideas by discussing them and looking at relevant examples, instead of just monotonously writing down notes is the most successful way to learn which also prepares you well for exams and sets you up nicely for a higher level of study in the future. This is followed up by then applying this knowledge by practicing exam questions which helps build confidence in one's ability.
