Personal Description:
I am a very succesful teacher with over 25 years classroom experience and have held senior positions (leading faculties of maths/science and science/technology) in schools. I also have over ten years experience as a home tutor.

Teaching Experience:

I have served as an assistant teacher, head of physics, head of science and head of faculty in comprehensive schools where my subjects have included all the sciences, seperate and combined, plus maths up to GCSE and Physics to A-level. I have also been ICT co-ordinator and a tutor for a youth theatre group. I have further middle school experience, extending my teaching at KS2 and 3 to include Design and Technology, Art, English, Humanities and games whilst continuing my initial specialisms, sciences and maths.
Over the last ten years I have been tutoring, working for the County Access and Inclusion service Medical Education Team as a sciences and maths specialist where I teach the full age and ability range from KS3 to KS5 and also work as a private tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

Lessons are friendly and informal, tailored to your needs and learning style. I use a variety of approaches and techniques and a mix of traditional and digital media. I engage, challenge, amuse, encourage, but never bore. It is absolutely right to have fun while learning, it helps the knowledge to stick. My students achieve outstanding results and I can supply plenty of excellent references from parents, tutees and professional colleagues.

Personal Description:
I am used to teaching students of all ages. I have a first degree in History and English and a masters in Art History. I have been teaching successfully in London and Norfolk for the past 26 years and can honestly say that I have never had a student fail, whether it be for an entrance exam or GCSE, 'A' level or even at University helping with a final dissertation. I enjoy tutoring on a one to one basis and am passionate about my chosen subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught at further education colleges in and around London as well as private schools mainly in English and History for G.C.S.E. and 'A' Level students. I am also an Associate Lecturer for the Open University in the Humanities and have been doing so for 14 years. My main strengths are in private tutoring in which I have been engaged for the past 26 years around London and Norfolk.

Tutoring Approach:

In the case of coursework for GCSE or 'A' level I am happy to have students email their work for me to check over and then have a lesson in person. With regard to working towards examinations, I prefer to use the question papers as the basis for learning as generally each exam board has a preference for the way in which questions are answered especially in the subjects I teach. English and History especially are open to interpretation. I believe the need to read around the subject and offer a wider knowledge than is generally taught at schools or colleges is vital. Regular tuition is therefore preferable, so that all problems can be addressed over a period of time.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very flexible approach to tutoring, and I would want to create a stimulating environment to enable the tutee to bring ideas and new approaches to problem solving which will not only help them to learn faster but also boost their confidence. I genuinely believe that any one can excel at Mathematics.

Personal Description:
Fully-booked until July 2017. I am a 31 year-old prize-winning Masters graduate in Mathematics from Oxford University, and I also hold Top Candidate Notifications for my performances in A-level maths and further maths, and another such notification for my performance in GCSE Statistics. I am in my eighth year of tutoring full-time.

I offer tuition in mathematics at each of the following levels: KS3/GCSE/AS/A2/AEA/MAT/Oxbridge Interview Practice/STEP. I have a CRB Enhanced Disclosure.

Teaching Experience:

I have seven full years experience as a full-time private tutor. My role addresses the pitfalls of a mainstream education by truly individualising it, and is perfected through thousands of hours of experience of striving to achieve precisely that. My thirst for knowledge has allowed me to develop a true understanding of mathematical concepts: I have frequently played the role of the consultant throughout my mathematical career, have been able to help my peers and students avoid the pitfalls usually associated with difficult ideas and am able to explain things from numerous angles.

Tutoring Approach:

Traversing the mathematical landscape is an art; it can be a very uncomfortable environment for some. I find it so important to make my students feel at ease and to find confidence in their maths and so important to be friendly and patient. I am not a suited, booted assessor, nor old-school, to be frank! The feedback I've received indicates that I am very successful in creating a supportive atmosphere that encourages discussion, openness and good effort.

As well as engaging with students in this manner, my aim as a maths tutor is to get my students to 'think mathematically'; to uncover the inherent simplicity in methods and concepts and to truly understand what is being worked with. It is my business to focus thought, prevent confusion and stimulate the development of good ideas. I employ illuminating explanations and navigate sticking points, and as a result maths should be considerably easier to handle under my guidance.

As well as offering support for those with difficulties or specific grade aspirations at standard levels, I can also challenge the very able as intensely as they could hope for, introducing them to the mindset, rigour and practise required for the more challenging AEA and STEP papers. At university I was lucky enough to find myself one to whom others turned with maths troubles: I have been depended on to explain advanced maths effectively for years. I am sure this accounts for two more areas of particularly positive feedback I've received as a tutor: in explaining concepts and in effectively dealing with problems as they arise.

I provide tuition either at my home in central Cheltenham, or at the homes of students within a 30-mile radius of it (dependent on particular location).

I am here to provide a complete teaching experience that in addition to ironing out difficulties and providing excellent exam preparation as matter of course, at no extra effort on the part of the student introduces them to the thought processes and insights of the professional mathematician. I have the STRONGEST sense of duty of care to my students and want every one who I work with to exceed their own expectations and the expectations of others and to walk away feeling truly proud of their achievements.

Personal Description:
Hello - I am a friendly and approachable teacher who is based in Surrey and uses a variety of teaching methods and techniques to help students consolidate their understanding, progress and achieve to the best of their ability. I have taught students of all ages and abilities and have received positive feedback from my students. I believe that questions should never be considered irrelevant or silly and that as each student is an individual, different methods and approaches may be required to aid their understanding. Please feel free to contact me for further information or guidance.

Teaching Experience:

9 Years teaching experience in Secondary schools. I have taught both boys and girls of all ages and also adults. I teach Latin to GCSE level and Classical Civilisation / Ancient History to A-level. I am also able to assist students with study skills, improve their English language skills and have knowledge of other languages such as French and Spanish.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to have an idea of what topics the student has already studied and which text books they are currently working from. The first session will be to find out what areas the student feels they are struggling in and what topics need more focus and consolidation. As each student is an individual, the sessions will be tailored to their unique learning needs and I will help them to gain as much as they can from each session and hopefully improve their understanding, their achievement grades and confidence in their abilities.

Personal Description:
I am a bubbly, outgoing person who loves teaching.
I was made redundant from my role on the Crime and Disorder Partnership where I was challenged to proactively tackle crime in the area.
I then decided to persue my career as a private tutor and teacher, having done it as a hobby for 3 years and found I have a passion for this field, this is now my sixth year of tutoring and have had lots of successes and am proud of all my tutees; past and present.
I can sometimes travel to you if required but prefer if I can tutor from my home.
I am available evenings and daytime and will allow single lessons or block bookings.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach maths in a secondary school and previously taught functional skills IT to level 1 and 2
I have 2 years experience in the Public Sector working with young people and adults tackling crime and disorder through engagement and educational projects.
I have previously tutored many children to GCSE Maths and can provide references if required

Tutoring Approach:

I treat each child as an individual and relish the challenge of helping each boy or girl achieve their targets. I have an excellent rapport with children and all those I teach feel that I am very approachable, easy to talk to, kind and caring. I try to make learning fun.

Personal Description:
I have just returned from a year as a Graduate music tutor at Wanganui Collegiate School, New Zealand. Before this, I graduated from the University of Oxford in June 2010, having studied Music at Oriel College under the tutorship of Dr. David Maw. I was educated as a music scholar at Eton College, Windsor before moving to the Perse School, Cambridge for sixth form study. Aside of a huge passion and enthusiasm for music study and tuition, I am an avid sportsman having represented both my university and county youth level in cricket. I also played a number of sports for my college during my time at Oriel. Currently, I am studying for a Masters in Musicology at Durham University with a specialism in the orchestral music of Gerald Finzi. In addition, I am also the Senior Organ Scholar at St. John's College. I have recently accepted a teaching post at Brighton College to begin in September 2012.

Teaching Experience:

Having just returned from a year as a graduate music tutor at Wanganui Collegiate School in New Zealand, I feel that I am in touch with both school teaching and more specifically, more private music tuition. During my year experience in New Zealand, I engaged very actively in the life of the music department. I have experience of basic music tuition with teaching of introductory concepts in the subject such as basic notation, theory, instrumentation and historical issues.
Further up the age spectrum, I have taught specific a level modules in a seminar type situation. With a completed Undergraduate Music degree from the University of Oxford, I have an extensive knowledge of theory, analysis, music history and specific tutoring skills in the study of the clarinet, piano and bassoon. I have taught music theory, clarinet and piano privately for 4 years.
This said, I am very happy to tutor at all levels, aiming to pass on my keen enthusiasm in the subject onto other keen and ambitious musicians whether they be starting out in the subject, or looking for extra assistance at A level and/or degree level. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at any time.

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring style is designed to generate as much active involvement by the student as possible. Tutoring time is balanced according to the needs of the client between examination coaching (handwriting, mnemonic techniques, time/mark allocation discipline, revision styles) and subject content (probing and consolidating background knowledge, instilling enthusiasm, analysing key aspects of each topic).

In addition, I believe in addressing the needs of each child individually and working with them to help them understand how to work through a problem for themselves. Confidence is often the key and I am keen to work with them to improve the confidence in their own abilities in a varied and fun atmosphere.

Personal Description:
I am a QTS Mathematics and economics specialist, with degree in maths and Master in Finance and banking. Though my initial goal had to do with the banking industry, I preferred tutoring and changing the lives of my students. It is something that I love and I wouldn't change it with anything in the world. It makes me proud to think of all the successful and important people that are among my past tutees as well as many good professionals. I am associated with many tutoring agencies, and I am known to deliver outstanding exam results.
80% of my new students are introduced by my past students.
I have written university level books on Analysis and Mathematics Competitions and taught Quantitative maths, Micro, Macro, Analysis Real and Complex, Algebra, Probabilities, Statistics, Operational Research,Calculus, Numerical Analysis, Financial Maths etc.
I prefer challenging, searching students who seek the essence behind the strict mathematical formalism, but certainly I can help anyone armed with a will to learn.

Teaching Experience:

30 years of teaching, including teaching students from UK universities, Oxford-Brookes, Edinburgh, Kent etc., I have written books in Real and Complex analysis ( in Greek) and exercises for mathematical competitions (in English)
I have Bsc in mathematics and Masters in Banking and Finance. I have taught Financial Management for institutes of professional education. Also taught for Cambridge STEP exams, Oxford MAT exams IB Maths, A level Economics and Business..

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is fresh, based on pure logic. I follow the Socratic method, where the students discover the principles and conclusions that already exist in their mind.
The results are great and the parents are amazed to see maths-averse students to turn into math lovers and exam winners. I am so certain about my method, that I can give you a free first hour, just to realise the potential of it. These methods are going to be incorporated into an educational technology startup shortly.
I am extremely proud regarding the performance of my students and I firmly believe that all together we can make this world a better place.

Below there are some practical rules regarding my tuition. Please read carefully:
1. I do not solve exercises or projects and send them to the tutee without tutoring involved. I consider this to be not only illegal, but also unethical, demotivating and unfair to other students.
2. There is a maximum number of students that I can take. For that reason, I would like to know from the start how many hours you will need when we approach the exam period.
3. If a student introduces me to another student, he will have a special price.
4. The homework is based on exam papers and at times becomes very demanding, especially close to the exams. The student must always do his homework. In case he doesn't for two consecutive sessions, the lesson is terminated.
5. If the student is going to stop the lessons during term breaks, he must inform me beforehand.

Personal Description:
I graduated from UCL with a First in Classics in 2008, and have since worked for Marks and Spencer as a Commercial Manager. I have maintained my interest in the ancient world and languages and have continued to study at Birkbeck. I am now returning to University to complete a PGCE in Classics (2013/2014).

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring privately since 2012, and have had a range of pupils aged from 11 through to A Level. Although I am just starting my teacher training, I have been observing in a variety of schools for the last six months. I have a detailed understanding of the curriculum for each school year and the GCSE, AS and A Level set texts and the language level required.

Tutoring Approach:

I have an enthusiasm for Classics which I have been told is infectious, and I am a firm believer that learning should be enjoyable. I have studied Latin since the age of 11, and Greek since 16, and have a very thorough knowledge of grammar and syntax in both languages. I am particularly skilled at Unseen Translation and Prose Composition.

I tailor my tuition to my pupil by informally assessing their language ability during our first session. I offer language tuition at any level and have experience of preparing students for University Entrance Exams. I am also well practiced in tutoring Greek to A Level students intending to study Classics at degree level.

I am a British academic and tutor, with degrees from the universities of London, Jerusalem and Cambridge. Author of 'Israel and the Cold War: Diplomacy, Strategy, and the Policy of the Periphery at the United Nations' (I.B. Tauris, 2013), I write for several academic journals, and review for the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House. I was the first recipient of the Mikardo scholarship, awarded by the British Foreign Office, and, whilst at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, was awarded a Golda Meir Fellowship. Whilst at Cambridge, I won a Donner prize in Atlantic Studies.

Teaching Experience:

A former Teaching Fellow at King's College London, I have taught MA courses on the Arab-Israeli conflict, US and British Foreign Policy, War and Peace in the Middle East, and Inter-Faith Relations in the Mediterranean. A fluent Hebrew speaker, I was Peer Tutor in Hebrew at University College London, where I was awarded the departmental prize for excellence in the Hebrew language. I have tutored privately abroad, as well as in Britain, and have an immensely successful record with my tutees. Apart from one-to one and online tuition, I also offer intensive tuition during school and university holidays. I find that both tutees and parents find this particularly useful for preparation and/or consolidation of knowledge. For peace of mind, I have enhanced DBS/CRB clearance.

Tutoring Approach:

Relaxed, interactive, theme-based, and multi-disciplinary. Use of past papers, analysis, deconstruction of exam and essay questions, concepts, and requirements; development of essay, and exam structure. I pay particular attention to a student's self-confidence, and self-expression, which often serve as catalysts for enhanced self-belief and, hence, success.

Personal Description:
Born in Edinburgh, I was raised in India and then Africa, before returning to the UK. Having lived in London and South East England since then, our family moved to the Scottish Highlands in 2012, primarily to raise our children in a less chaotic and more natural environment. We've had no regrets at all...and our various dogs and cats are similarly happy with the move!

I have always been passionate about English, from the weekly spelling tests and grammar exercises of primary school to the privilege of being taught at A Level by Tolkien's grandson. His vibrant, interactive approach shaped my ongoing learning and fired my imagination. After leaving Edinburgh University with a Masters in English Language and Literature, I went on to take a TEFL qualification and used this when travelling abroad in Turkey and throughout the Caribbean. I am delighted that I continue to work in the area of EAL with overseas students in British schools, and that technology has allowed me to work with individuals in their home countries, via Skype.

My love of English directed my career, working first at the Royal Shakespeare Company before becoming an independent theatre producer in London, and a theatre advertising executive on accounts such as Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Cats' and Cameron Mackintosh's 'Les Miserables'.

In 2008, my partner and I began the home education of our two children at primary stage. It was both challenging and inspirational and the experiences and knowledge I gained during those years - not purely academic, but also the different ways and methods of learning, the different developmental stages of children, the different learning styles of children - continue to inform my present day tutoring.

While home educating, and with my love of theatre, I founded an educational theatre group, Active Arts, with Margo Gunn, a teacher and director at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London. We worked with a wide age range of home educated and mainstream school children, providing workshops on various Shakespeare plays including 'Midsummer Night's Dream', 'The Tempest' and 'Romeo & Juliet'. Workshops were also designed specifically in support of GCSE/IGCSE work. As passionate advocates of Shakespeare, our approach was active and energetic, lifting Shakespeare off the page and introducing his plays, his language and his theatricality in an engaging and tangible manner. I was thrilled to be able to resurrect this work in the Highlands, initially at a local primary school, conducting 4 workshops for Primary 4-Primary 7, resulting in workshop presentations of 'The Tempest' and 'Macbeth'.

Teaching Experience:

In addition to home educating my two children and running Active Arts, my personal and professional lives led me into private tutoring and I have been a private tutor in English Language and Literature since 2009, working alongside children and young people from age 5 upwards, whether on general literacy issues, EAL or focusing specifically on exam work, from SATS, Nationals and GCSEs, through to A Levels, Highers and beyond. Tutees have been those in mainstream state schools, leading UK private schools and home education, following the English and Scottish curriculums, as well as IGCSEs with providers including Cambridge, OOL and Edexcel.

A number of my tutees have challenges such as Autism, ADHD, Tourette's and dyslexia, and the combination of experience, research and support courses have built my knowledge and understanding in these areas.

While I am registered with tutoring agencies, many of my tutees come via personal recommendation and I was delighted that tutees I had worked with in England chose to continue working with me via Skype after our move to Scotland.

Critically, I am PVG checked, and would be happy to provide evidence of this, together with references and qualification documentation.

Tutoring Approach:

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
My approach is not one of 'dip in and out' for an hour, or 'one size fits all', but of creating a relaxed, enjoyable, constructive atmosphere and building a relationship within which the young person's potential can be maximised, against a tailored, individual approach. While texts and challenges might be shared by various tutees, learning styles, atmospheres for learning, methods for learning, will always be different.
As importantly, my approach places great value on the parents, their involvement and their right and need for clear, ongoing and comprehensive communication. As such, I am often in regular contact with both my tutees and their parents, should they require it, outside of tutorials.

"The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be ignited."
Plutarch

If you're looking for a desk-based tutor, one who does all the talking and expects your child to just sit and listen, I am not the right person for you.

If you're looking for someone to ignite a love of English, to build confidence, to be energetic, to make learning enjoyable, active, off the page, accessible, then, here I am!

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
For many young people with whom I work, English and everything to do with it - their texts, their homework, punctuation, close reading, writing an essay - is a minefield. Often, what holds them back is a mixture of low confidence, fear of getting it wrong, and simply not having grasped the 'map' of how to 'do it'.

One of my main motivations, is to make English accessible; to take away the fear factor, to provide clear and simple structures, to grasp some key exam techniques, to demystify the exam paper, to clarify what the heck the exam paper is testing them on; to remind tutees that they have, naturally, learned one of the most difficult languages in the world and are fully capable of expressing themselves on paper, under pressure and against time.

However whimsical it may sound, as with many things in life, self-belief and understanding are powerful tools for success.

MAKING ENGLISH ACCESSIBLE
The demand for private tutoring is growing exponentially. As The Telegraph reported in 2012, "more than a quarter of parents use private tutoring to supplement their children's education", spending "£6bn a year in the UK." A double page spread in Femail, February 2015, states research that almost 1 in 4 children are now privately tutored, with pupils at private schools almost twice as likely to have private tutoring than those from state schools. Whatever explanation there is for this rise, cost to parents remains an obvious barrier to its provision.

I am, of course, a 'business', but I also firmly believe that access to tutoring should be made as wide as possible; education is a right and not a privilege. As such, while I have a standard rate for 1-1 tutoring, I am also very happy to discuss your requirements with you and to look at options available, such as small group tutoring where the cost per head can be significantly reduced.

Please do take the opportunity of discussing your requirements with me, rather than potentially losing the opportunity of providing tutorial support for your child.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate of Emmanuel College, University and Cambridge, and hold a BA degree in Modern and Medieval Languages. I studied French, Spanish and Portuguese at undergraduate level, and have an A level in German.

In 2014-15 I spent my year abroad studying as an Erasmus+ student at the École normale supérieure de Lyon, where I was able to greatly develop my knowledge of French culture and spoken fluency in all registers.

I am currently completing a cathedral choral scholarship whilst I prepare for further study in languages at postgraduate level. I'm hoping to train as an interpreter.

I'm a very friendly and considerate individual, have a good sense of humour, and welcome inquiries from students of all ages and abilities!

Teaching Experience:

I have experience tutoring English for French school students. I have also worked with school pupils in the UK, delivering talks about applying to Oxbridge, often working with Upper-Sixth-Form pupils on their university applications for languages, including conducting mock interviews.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy teaching students, first and foremost, who are passionate about their subject, and aim to fuel the student's knowledge and enthusiasm further through tutoring.

I am happy to adapt to each student's individual needs: whether this be support with grammar and vocabulary, speaking/reading/writing practice, or additional study of the language and culture in question, I can tailor sessions to assist the students in areas where they need the most help.

Personal Description:
Physics is (in my opinion) a fantastic subject, and one that is highly regarded in society, not to mention indispensable if a career in engineering or some of the sciences is to be pursued.

Before I decided to change career and become a teacher, I worked for a British sports car manufacturer as a design engineer, using many of the principles I now teach in my then, day to day work.

I graduated from Coventry University in 2000 with a BEng (Hons) in Automotive Engineering Design, before going on to read an MBA in Business Management.

After a number of years working in the automotive industry, I got involved in teaching through the Formula Schools initiative.

I graduated from The University of Nottingham in 2010 with a PGCE in Secondary Science (Physics).

This history of working in industry before going becoming a teacher/tutor allows me to bring in relevant examples of where the theory fits in with the real world. I feel that this is important and I find it helps to bring a subject to life for the student,

Teaching Experience:

I qualified as a physics teacher in 2010 and have worked as a teacher or tutor since.

I now work full time as a physics tutor, working on a one to one basis with students across a spectrum of abilities at both G.C.S.E. and A level.

Tutoring Approach:

I provide a calm, friendly approach, taking care to find where precisely the student is having problems, then either tweak theories and knowledge in order to correct any misconceptions or start from the beginning with them, taking the time to fully support, explain and develop the student's knowledge and skills in that area, making sure that the foundations are laid to create a strong base for any future knowledge to be built upon. This is important in both G.C.S.E and A level as they are both built upon a spiral curriculum, whereby topics and previous knowledge are revisited and used time and time again throughout the course.

Often, the difference between a puzzled look and the "eureka" moment that all teachers strive for, is just one explanation or a slight tweak on the explanation of a theory away. Sometimes, the difference may be supporting the examples and calculation side, this support then giving the student the confidence in their knowledge and understanding.

In addition to providing subject content tuition, I also provide exam preparation and technique,, past paper practice, revision schedules, constant progress monitoring and ongoing progress evaluation..
