| Personal Description: I am 30 years old and recently finished a PhD in English. Besides tutoring, I teach English literature and academic writing at New York University in London and Goldsmiths. I also review for the Times Literary Supplement and am involved in my own research. I am passionate about literature, and enjoy the challenge of imparting this enthusiasm to my students. On the other hand, I am very aware of the difficulties that students of the subject can encounter, and am committed to finding the right way to overcome them. |
Teaching Experience: Over the last ten years, I have taught primary school, GCSE, A-level and University-level English literature and language. This has required an in-depth knowledge of a wide range of literary genres and periods. During the last two years I have also participated in a postgraduate training programme at University College London to explore innovative methods of teaching writing and study skills, and have designed and led academic writing workshops for undergraduates. I currently teach seventeenth- to twentieth-century literature at University College London, and academic writing at New York University's London campus. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe in adapting my teaching methods to suit the individual requirements and objectives of each student. In all cases, however, I aim to give students the linguistic and analytical tools that will enable them to approach the subject with confidence and enthusiasm, and to succeed in exams. |

| Personal Description: I am 26 and at present I am a Director at the Adam Smith Institute, an influential Westminster think-tank. Last year, I finished an MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and previous to this I studied History at University College London. I am hard working and determined to excel, skills that I will pass on to whoever I tutor. I know what it takes to succeed and will work beyond what is expected to enthuse this confidence in to those that I teach. |
Teaching Experience: While at LSE, I tutored another fellow student from Japan who had only a limited grasp of the English Language. I took this extremely seriously and he managed to pass the MSc from being in a position in which his professors were certain he would fail. Outside of academics I have spent a number of years teaching tennis to children and adults of varying skills and abilities. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to teaching is based on two fundamental premises. The first is that it is absolutely essential to find satisfaction in the learning process. This may not come through the actual material that needs to be learnt and it is up to the tutor to inspire in the student the confidence to succeed. As your tutor, I will lay down the learning structure that will cement this through detailed lesson plans. The second premise is that supervised practise testing is imperative. This needs to be followed by a thorough evaluation of the results, in order to understand where improvements need to be made, in both knowledge and approach. As your tutor I will be available outside of teaching time to answer questions by email and phone, there will be no extra cost for this service. |

| Personal Description: I am a 21 year old student and I'm currently in my 3rd year of studying medicine at King's College London. Im spending 1 year at Imperial at the moment in order to obtain a Bsc in cardiovascular sciences. I consider myself to be an enjoyable person to be around, and I'm always keen to help fellow students in achieving their academic potential. Being a member of MENSA, I'm always up for mental activities and enjoy the challenge. One of the greatest benefits of living in London is the multicultural nature of the city, and like to interact with people from all cultures and backgrounds. |
Teaching Experience: Took part in the new "Mentor" scheme brought into my secondary school, where i interacted with students that weren't achieving their potential in terms of education, motivating them. Experience in teaching AS/A2 level Chemistry, Biology and Maths. Also tutoring peers from lower years at medical school. |
Tutoring Approach: I feel that i will be a well rounded tutor, as I'm very patient yet will get the job done. The most important aspect for exams such as GCSEs and A levels, in my opinion, is the exam technique. I will ensure the tutee feels confident answering exam questions relating to their syllabus, while also thinking "outside the box". |

| Personal Description: I am 24 years old and have a BA Hons degree in Geography. I graduated from Swansea University in 2005 and since undertook a number of sports and field studies instructing jobs. Since completing my PGCE at London University I have become a primary school class teacher. |

| Personal Description: I am ninteen years old and looking to travel and teach around the world. I would love to work with students who need a little extra help, and children who would like to hone their talents. Being young myself, I can relate to the students and know the kind of examinations they have to sit! I love working with people and tutoring is something I enjoy. |
Teaching Experience: I aided students at college outside of set lessons, particularly in English. I also hope to gain a TEFL qualification soon to teach abroad. |
Tutoring Approach: I understand people learn in different ways, from simple reading books to putting notes to music! I am friendly and approachable, and hate shouting at people. I will always try to resolve an issue through discussion and will never patronise a student. I try to keep things interesting, such as applying shakespeare to a modern situation. Whatever the student, I will always try my best to help them understand in a way they can relate to. |

| Personal Description: I recently graduated from university and am interested in pursuing a career in education, I enjoy working with young people, I am easy going but have a good, committed work ethic. I studied Biology and Geography at A-level, achieving a good B grade in biology, and A in geography with 100% in some of my modules. I studied Graphic Arts and Design at university and recently graduated with a 2:1 degree (only 2 marks from a first) - and have thorough experience with most aspects of art and design including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, digital design (including programs like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator), animation, printing, typography and graphic design, photography and film making. I also have a lifelong interest and skills in other crafts such as sewing/dressmaking, knitting and crochet. |
Teaching Experience: I studied in Japan for 11 months and therefore have some experience teaching English to Japanese students of all ages, in an informal setting and at a local tutoring school, which was at times extremely challenging, however I found the experience to be very enjoyable and enlightening. In this time I also attended 3 Japanese lessons a week and developed Japanese reading, writing and speaking skills equivalent to 18months of study in the UK. I also learned a lot about Japanese culture and education. Other than this I have no formal teaching experience but throughout my education have always found fulfillment in helping my fellow students in their studies. |
Tutoring Approach: I am a down to earth and very patient and sympathetic person, with a genuine interest in all of my subjects. I am willing to help with any aspects of a student's education, including homework, coursework, following a specific syllabus or studying a subject in general. I would usually approach the tutoring with guidance from the student as to where help is needed or desired, but if given advance information and notice, I would be willing to draw up lesson plans and prepare research for each tutoring session. |

| Personal Description: I have recently moved to Glasgow and I am currently working as a part-time Spanish Teacher at two different language schools at Glasgow. I look forward to expanding my current working hours. |
Teaching Experience: Jun 2008/Current Part-time Spanish Teacher, Live Language Ltd and St George International, Glasgow. Tutoring the learning and improvement of a small group of students in Spanish as a foreign language. Nov 2007/Apr 2008 Private tutor in Maths, English and Spanish language, Ugijar, Granada. Tutoring the learning and development of a small group of students in the subjects of Spanish, Maths and English. Summer 2005 Private tutor in Maths and Spanish language, Ugjar, Granada. Tutoring the learning and development of a small group of students in the subjects of Spanish and Maths. Summer 2004 Private tutor in Spanish, St Albans, UK. Tutoring the learning and improvement of a small group of students in Spanish as a foreign language. Summer 2003 Private tutor in Spanish, St Albans, UK. Tutoring the learning and improvement of a small group of students in Spanish as a foreign language. |
Tutoring Approach: Through my experience as Spanish teacher, I am very aware of the difficulties English speakers face when learning Spanish, as they usually get bored when learning the Spanish grammar. So I usually make the explanations of it as enjoyable as possible and with plenty of practice, so they can see their progress and reinforce what they have learnt. Otherwise, they would abandon the learning of Spanish. Therefore, my approach to teaching Spanish is twofold. Firstly, I try to make the classes as enjoyable as possible when teaching grammar and secondly, I also provide plenty of different and challenging exercises/tasks, so students can reinforce what they have learnt and see their progress. Balancing these areas (explanations of grammar and practicing Spanish) is the key to have an adequate learning of Spanish and I consider that in my teaching this is achieved. |

| Personal Description: I am a qualified English teacher from Poland who wants to teach international students. Last year I graduated The Foreign Language Teacher Training College of the Jagiellonian University and obtained the licentiate diploma (BA degree) in teaching English as a foreign language. |
Teaching Experience: In Poland I used to teach the Callan Method for over three years. |
Tutoring Approach: I am a very friendly and easy-going person. I teach speaking, listening, reading and writing skills as well as grammar and vocabulary using different kinds of materials such as authentic materials, games, DVD's etc., with as much homework as the student wants - classes will be tailored to student's needs. I am learner-centered, and focus on giving you plenty of authentic practice time. For me real interaction means that students attain language skills they can use in the real world, not just in the classroom. I want my students to be able to speak effectively whether it is socially, for work or for travel. |

| Personal Description: I have a dual background in Electrical Engineering and Psychology and have recently retired after 20 years as a University lecturer. At different stages I taught both Psychology and Software Engineering/Artificial Intelligence. For relaxation I listen to jazz and blues. |
Teaching Experience: I have been tutoring since March 2008 and am able to teach maths, physics and computing from primary up to 'A' level, and psychology at 'A' level and university level. I am a chartered psychologist and can carry out educational and psychological assessments of both children and adults who are experiencing learning or language difficulties (however, I do not undertake remedial teaching). |
Tutoring Approach: Consider it important to assess the pupil's needs, strengths, and weaknesses carefully at the outset in order to develop a set of goals based on this assessment. Aim to provide well-structured and clearly presented instruction, which if the pupil is able and well-motivated will generally lead to progress. If the pupil is poorly motivated and/or has acquired unhelpful learning habits then may need to vary the approach in order to re-engage their interest and/or find a level at which they can perform successfully, and then build on this accomplishment. |

| Personal Description: Hello! I am Russian. I have been living in the UK for five years. Languages are my passion - the way the worlds and sentences are built and work is entirely fascinating. Apart from that I try to travel as much as possible - over Yorkshire and UK in general. Walking and exploring countryside with my camera is another my favourite pastime. |
Teaching Experience: I was working as an English language teacher in Russia for nearly 25 years before I moved to England. I taught English to the students of all levels from the age 7 to 17. |
Tutoring Approach: I am familiar with language teaching methodology and am able to use appropriate teaching procedures in order to help my students learn Russian. I prefer to take into account my students' individual thinking and feeling towards the subject to enable him/her to achieve better results. To ensure as much practical experience in using language as possible is my priority. |

| Personal Description: I'm a 22 year-old (male) musician, from Ireland. I'll be moving to York in October '09, where I hope to teach violin and music theory and listening. |
Teaching Experience: I have four years of teaching experience. I taught Violin (from grades 1-8) in McGinley's School of Music and Drama in Derry, where all of my student had 100% pass-rate. I also taught violin and general music theory in a primary school, where I put over 20 pupils in for examinations, and set up a number of children's ensembles. |
Tutoring Approach: I am very easy-going and patient, especially with those who practice! I take each pupil at an appropriate pace, and decide (with help of a discussion with the pupil and parents) what exactly should be taught. I focus a lot on technique, especially with beginners. For those who may have developed bad habits, I take time on alleviating those issues. I can take pupils through exam grades (from 1-8) but, if preferred, the pupil can have general tuition by which the repertoire learned is much more open. For music theory, the content taught is very open and the pupil/parent can decide what area they would like to focus on, but note that the focus should be on areas usually taught in schools up to A-Level. The same goes for any tuition dealing with 'music listening'. |
