Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified teacher of German and Spanish and I have been teaching for a number of years. I am now working as a teacher of Modern Languages in a secondary school.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience of one-to-one and small group tutoring and I have a thorough knowledge of the Scottish school curriculum including arrangements for the new National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher courses. I have now taught the new Curriculum for Excellnece courses in both German and Spanish and have a good understanding of levels and assessments.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring is a great way of learning a language because you benefit from full attention of your tutor. I plan and deliver my lessons to suit my pupils' needs. Passing an exam often needs specialist preparation with someone who knows the exam system and can guide their pupil/student through e.g. unit assessments, Talking exam preparation etc.
On the other hand, we learn languages to use them independently, free from the constraints of selected exam topics. This is where vocabulary, language structure and grammar come together and enables the learner to use their learning in different contexts. I teach all areas effectively using tried and tested techniques and resources that will help my learners improve their knowledge of the language.

Personal Description:
Hello! I'm Nicole. I'm a bit of a history and literature geek (and I hope to convert you!!)

I studied History and English at the University of Oxford (Wadham College). I graduated with Double First Class Honours in 2010, and came top in my academic year: no mean feat!

I believe that my excellent grades reflect several important characteristics: my exceptional academic ability, my high academic standards, my mastery of study-skills, and my dedicated and conscientious work ethic. I look to encourage all of these qualities in my students.

More importantly though, my outstanding results are a result of my absolute love for, knowledge of, and commitment to, my subjects. I absolutely love to learn, and aim to help my students to find a similar excitement and passion for their studies!

Teaching Experience:

Over the past few years, I have privately tutored a number of students. My students have come from a diverse age range - spanning from the very young to the much older - and I feel comfortable working with children, teenagers and adults.

I have tutored students in History; English Literature; English Language; reading comprehension; speaking, listening, reading and writing skills; primary level Maths.

I have also tutored 11+ applicants, for which I have a 100% success rate.

I also have experience in mentoring potential Oxbridge applicants, and advising university peers and younger students on study and revision skills.

After graduating, I worked full-time as a Cover Supervisor in a secondary school. That means that I took classes in all subjects across the secondary curriculum, for students ranging from 11 - 16 years of age, and I also supported teaching in A-Level English classes. Seeing up to 150 students in a day was a challenging and rewarding experience in which I was constantly thinking on my feet, and successfully applying my teaching skills to brand new material (in familiar and unfamiliar subjects). This job also gave me the opportunity to observe and work with students of all abilities and learning styles, and to learn how to adapt my teaching style accordingly.

I have worked on a number of projects which involved education, support, or leadership of young people. These have included:

- Working with and supervising over 120 foreign children and teenagers whilst employed by a Cambridge-based language summer school as a programme coordinator and social leader.

- Peer support leader within the APAUSE programme ('Added Power and Understanding in Sex Education') which offered sex education and empowerment lessons for younger teenagers.

- Co-director role in secondary level production of 'Les Miserables' with responsibility for over 100 children and teenagers aged between 11 and 18.

- Co-director role in community theatre production of 'West Side Story' with responsibility for working with approximately 50 children and teenagers.

- Assistant role for GCSE-level 'Speaking and Listening Days' which involved aiding teachers in helping students improve the quality of their English language GCSE assessed work.

Tutoring Approach:

I am passionate about learning - and look to encourage a similar excitement in my students. In History this might be through some particularly fascinating or gruesome details, or in English, through exploring a beautiful line of poetry.

I am very individual-student orientated, so I seek always to establish each individual's aims for tutoring, and then we will work together toward these. For one student, this might be to know how to deconstruct a poem; for another, how to write a good essay.

With some students, I will plan structured lessons, whereas others prefer simply to earmark time with a dedicated tutor, before deciding what to do themselves at the time. Perhaps they will bring their homework, a study-book, or something they are stuck with - whatever the case, I aim always to listen and respond to the needs of each individual student.

With all my students (but especially the younger ones) I am a big believer in making learning FUN! I therefore often design lessons which use a variety of practical learning activities to keep them stimulated, rather than just relying on book-learning. In the past, I've mummified a teddy, conducted a press conference, and taught times-tables via Grandmother's footsteps! I find this to be particularly effective for students who struggle with concentration.

I believe that when offered education through the right methods, everyone is able to maximise their own ability to learn. Having completed a full-time degree and worked in secondary education, I am equipped with plenty of different learning methods. With my students, I therefore look to discover which approaches work well for them, and then to use these to help them master the subject material. This in turn helps students to gain in confidence and self-motivation as they discover their own capacity to learn well.

If students are working toward exams, I first seek to establish what a student feels his or her weaknesses are, and then focus tuition on areas or skills which will help them to plug the gaps or grow in strength and confidence. If more general support is needed, I will combine working with core material with a focus on ensuring that they have a solid grasp of the assessment objectives, question-types, and what the exam will look like, so that they can go into the exam confident and well-prepared. I also find that practice, practice, practice is essential, so we'll often work with past papers.

I seek always to establish clear lesson goals, and to review material learnt several times within each lesson, ensuring that the student feels comfortable with using the material learnt, rather than swamped by facts and lists!

Personal Description:
I have been a private tutor for 25 years. I really enjoy teaching on a one-to-one basis, because I not only feel that I have and can help people learn skills that they will need for the rest of their lives, but I also get a great feeling of satisfaction when one of my pupils or students either passes an exam or finds that what he/she has learnt during our lessons has helped them in their field of work.
I am a native speaker of English and a qualified EFL/ESL teacher/tutor. I lived in Greece for many years and so
I can help Greek speakers learn English.
I also enjoy teaching Modern Greek as a foreign language as I had to learn this fascinating language from scratch, and so I believe I can help someone who wants to be able to visit Greece or Cyprus to communicate with the local people in their own language.
Moreover, I have branched into the field of proof reading & editing of student dissertations, assignments & essays in all subjects.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English as a Foreign and Second language for 27 years. I have taught all levels of English from Beginners - Advanced levels. I have prepared many students for the Cambridge ESOL exams, such as FCE, CAE, IELTS and CPE. I am also happy to say that I have had many successes in this field. I have also taught all age groups from young children to adult learners. I am a Cambridge ESOL oral examiner, and I believe that this has helped me both prepare students for exam success, but examiner training has also helped me to appreciate the importance of making a student feel relaxed and enjoy this learning experience.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that I have developed a personal, individual style when it comes to tutoring. I consider the tutor-student relationship to be of utmost importance. If a student feels confident and relaxed with his or her tutor then the learning experience is that much easier. Private tutoring allows the tutor to develop a course which is tailor-made for the student's needs. I always try to make my lessons as enjoyable as possible, by introducing a wide variety of material in every lesson, as opposed to just sticking to a text book which can well become boring and unproductive. There are many ways to learn a language or an academic subject, and this is what I try to achieve through my lessons.

Personal Description:
I am a native French speaker, born and educated in Paris, but I have been living in England for over 30 years and married an Englishman. I graduated from the Sorbonne University with a view to teaching English there but when I came to England as a French assistante. A year later, having completed my Master's degree I cam back to settle in England and soon qualified as a French teacher. I have been working in that capacity until 2012 when I retired from full-time teaching to dedicated myself to private tuition. I am thus very experienced at all levels consider myself an extremely dedicated teacher, eager to see the students progress and enjoy learning about French culture at the same time as they improve their command of the language. I believe that the most efficient way of learning other than total immersion is the one to one approach which has often allowed me to enable the students willing to invest the extra time to progress exponentially, get motivated and achieve their potential.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught French and English to adults (managerial staff and trainees) in the private sector, in small groups and individually.
Subsequently, I have taught French from KS3 to KS5, full-time on permanent contracts for nearly 30 years in total. At the same time I have tutored my own son to passing his French G.C.S.E. with the top mark in the country, and his French A Level with flying colours. As a result he is now reading French at Oxford University and he continues to call on my expertise whenever needed. A few years ago, one of my A Level students whom I tutored privately obtained the top marks in the country in every module of the Edexcel exam. I am extremely experienced in coaching students to success in their G.C.S.E. and A Level French exams and the overwhelming majority of my students systematically achieved their potential or better. For over 10 years I took on virtually all the A Level French teaching at my last school and have always acted as teacher-examiner for both G.C.S.E. and A Level..

Tutoring Approach:

First, I assess what each student is aiming to gain from the private tuition, whether it be coaching for written and/or oral examinations, building confidence in communicating within a given context, improving pronunciation, mastering the finer points of grammar, studying French literature etc. I also quickly evaluate the level and ability of individual student through gentle probing and questioning. I go on to prepare an appropriate programme of study and gather material such as PowerPoint presentations, tailor made practice exercises, Past Papers, relevant websites, use visual and aural aids to add interest. I set homework and can give feedback on line between lessons to maximise efficiency of personal contact time. Basically it all depends on what the student wishes to achieve.Because I know the subject so well I can be extremely flexible and can instantly fine tune my approach according to the need of my student at any given moment. Thanks to my long experience I have become extremely responsive to the all-important feedback

Personal Description:
I am a PhD student, undertaking my doctorate in Environmental Sciences, with a focus on soil nutrient cycling and nutrient transport to surface and ground waters. I completed my BSc in Physical Geography at the University of Exeter and gained first class honours in this.

Teaching Experience:

I carried out teacher training at a basic level with the University of Exeter in order to participate in the Students Associates Scheme. After this training I spent three weeks in a local secondary school where I actively participated in Geography and Religious Studies lessons, and was able to provide work plans for higher and lower achieving students. I also worked closely with students that had special educational needs.
I also have experience in teaching sports to groups of young children.

Tutoring Approach:

During my time at the secondary school I found that I produced good results working one-to-one with students, particularly with students that were struggling to understand concepts or were having difficulty with the teaching style being used in the classroom. I am patient, focussed and willing to work hard to enable a tutee to achieve their goals.

I aim to support each individual in achieving his or her full potential, and have received regular feedback that I have an approachable style which empowers students and puts them at their ease. I have been a specialist in English Language skills, particularly English for Academic Purposes, for a number of years, via Skype, email and face to face tuition. I play violin and sing regularly, and have been an orchestral and chamber musician for thirty five years.

I have supported various students in their preparation for GCSEs in all three sciences, together with A levels in English and Psychology. In addition, I provide support for a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Linguistics, but more generally in academic writing at degree level for all subjects.

In addition to my degree/masters subjects and my PGCE, I also have Level 3 (A level equivalent) Diplomas in Psychology and General Science, together with Level 4 in Advanced Anatomy and Physiology and Level 5 in CBT plus Level 5 Diploma in Life Coaching and Counselling.

Teaching Experience:

I have thirty years' experience as a qualified teacher, of which I spent 15 years in leadership positions in schools, including two head ships in England and Scotland. I teach English for Academic Purposes to both overseas and home students, support preparation for public exams in Music, English, Science and Psychology and have a range of violin and singing pupils. In addition, I prepare students for IELTs, PTEG/PTE Academic, for which I am an examiner, and FCE/CPE.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to tailor my approach to meet the needs of each individual student. Lessons are a mixture of interactive and instructional, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions in a stress- free environment. I use electronic resources to support my teaching and will mark and instruct via online instructional methods where required to do so.

For exam preparation I am familiar with Edexcel, AQA, OCR and Cambridge exam boards, and have experience preparing A level students for AQA A2 Psychology, together with Edexcel and AQA English/English Literature.

Personal Description:
I am a certified teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language. In May 2012 I finished the Master de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y Bachillerato, FP y Enseñanza de Idiomas in Spain, a program similar to a PGCE. I am also working on the dissertation on another master program that will qualify me as a teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language. I enjoy Qualified Teaching Status since November 2012 and I am familiar with the English curriculum and the programme of study for KS3-4 in all aspects related to teaching Spanish as a MFL. I have taught Spanish to people of all ages and nationalities and also have classroom experience as a Chemistry Teacher (ages 15-16 and 17-18).

Teaching Experience:

I am an experienced professional with a strong academic background and I am confident that I can be a valuable asset to your school. To be part of your teaching team will be a fantastic opportunity for me because it will also give me the opportunity to embrace the British culture again.

I have worked very hard to become a good teacher. My grades have been outstanding and I am receiving very good feedback from my instructors. I have carried out the practical phase of the teaching programme (Master in Secondary Education) in the same high school that I attended many years ago. In this school I have been responsible for teaching Chemistry and Physics to over 60 students and I also implemented a social learning environment to support their learning which has received very good feedback from my students and the lead teacher. I have accrued more than 800 teaching hours to date. I have the skills required for a classroom teacher and also the specialised skills required for teaching a second language.

Tutoring Approach:

From my own experience, I believe that learning a new language is similar to opening a door into a world full of possibilities: traveling, getting a new job, meeting new people and, in general, becoming a stronger individual both personally and professionally. In my classes, I like to tap into that part of each of my students that is exited about learning a new language, because that motivation will lead them to succeed in my class.

As a language teacher I firmly believe that in order for the students to succeed, two things must be present in the classroom environment: trust and respect. I have a lot of experience as a language student, Spanish is my native tongue and I have learned English, German and a bit of French and I have struggled with that first phrase I wanted to say out loud thinking that I was going to make a mistake or that it was going to sound funny. I understand that not everyone learns a language at the same rate and speaking in a foreign language takes courage and self-confidence. Courage and self-confidence are supported by an environment of trust and respect. In my classroom there are always ground rules: we are all here to learn, we learn from each other and we must respect each other.

The other very important aspect for me is making sure that the level of proficiency is correctly assessed. If the classes are too challenging or too basic, a negative environment not conducive to learning is created. Even if proper evaluation is made before the groups are formed, there will always be differences inside the classroom. I, as a teacher, try to be as aware as possible of this factor and strive to use that for the good of the group. Pairing a strong student with someone not as strong usually helps. Another important issue that I try to be as aware as possible is preventing the strong students from taking over the exercises and leaving behind other students that, because of either lack of confidence or not being at the same level, stop themselves from actively participating in class. In my classes, I make sure that everyone is heard and that I can evaluate progress of all my students.

Personal Description:
I'm a graduate of the University of Edinburgh's MA (Hons) Latin degree. I've got a working background in arts management and administration, but I'm hoping to utilise my degree to encourage prospective Latinists to give the subject a go!

Teaching Experience:

I began tutoring in Latin and English Literature five years ago, both for beginners and up to GCSE. I currently have a tutee learning beginner's Latin. While at university I tutored other students in beginner's Latin and Classical Civilisation. I've also spent the past few years providing training for adults in the workplace, so I'm happy to tutor adult learners (both beginners and experienced) as well.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer tutoring using practical methods - such as discussions and games - rather than just learning by rote. However, I adapt my tutor style based on what the tutee requires. I've been trained in a variety of methods to engage young and adult learners, and will try out several to see what suits the tutee best. For more experienced learners, such as A-Level / Advanced Higher candidates, I will identify which areas of the subject (vocabulary, grammar, literature) need most tuition, and decide with the tutee which to focus upon. I am happy to tutor individuals or in small groups (in which case a discounted rate can be agreed upon.)

Personal Description:
My professional profile is mainly divided into two areas: Environmental Biology - Natural Science - Italian teaching/translation.
Professional competences on the Environmental Biology - Natural Science field have been acquired during my undergraduate studies in Ecological Science and Environmental Education and the master in Biodiversity and Environmental Quality (both with first-honours grades). Several internship/volunteer activities and training courses have enriched my curriculum on this area and allowed me to enhance my knowledge and expertise.
The Italian teaching area has been developed during the last 3 years (two of which have been spent in United Kingdom), even though I have been passionate on either linguistic structures or teaching/learning processes since High School, inspired by the family atmosphere in which my parents and some relatives transmitted me the passion.

Teaching Experience:

I have a three-year professional experience in teaching lessons of Science and Italian language (6 courses to date, including a special "food and language" course for a company) for individuals and small classes, and I have been an External Examiner for the GCSE Italian Language exam.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly, calm and patient tutor that really loves teaching in a comfortable, positive and supporting ambience. I encourage you to participate actively to the lesson, and, according to the purpose, I promote activities, games and practical exercises focused on your needs. I do not prefer explaining concepts using only schematic structures, but I try to understand your main needs and gaps and I tail the lessons to your specific learning processes.
All levels are covered.

Personal Description:
Playing the Guitar, Mandolin, Ukulele, Banjo and Harmonica and creating traditional Fine Art have been and are a major part of my life. Much as I would have very much liked to do, I never had the opportunity to become a Professional Performing Musician or a fully Professional Fine Artist . I have performed in public of course, and held exhibitions, but very rarely on a professional/paid basis. I have been a guitarist for over 45 years and an artist for 23 years

I studied art at the Thanet Schools of Art & the Ravensbourne College of Art and Design (the same College David Bowie went to)
for two and a half years. After that I had a twenty two year absence from art.

A change came in 1992: It was during a period of Long Term Unemployment. Whilst signing on at my local Job Center, I volunteered to go on an "Employment Action Course. In a sense this was a form of working for your benefit and was paid an extra £10 per week on top of Job Seekers Allowance. Hopefully this would have lead to work prospects, ideally in Art or The Arts. I had to report to a work placement provider who asked me what skills I had, to which I said "Art" and was assigned to a local Community Arts Center based in Gillingham Kent and appointed as a publicity designer and resources worker.

Whilst in my publicity artist role I was introduced to the then K.C.C Arts Promotion Officer Jim Shean who took interest in my art work and arranged an exhibition hire space without charge at my local library, the event was covered on Radio Kent's "Scene & Heard" Program. I also contacted the local junior school where my children attended and made a proposition if I could exhibit there. In return the headmaster asked my to come into the School twice a week and teach the children art, this featured in a local press article.

Over the years from 1992 to date I have held numerous small one man exhibitions in the Medway Towns and a little further afield and have manged to sell some (just enough to pay a few bills). In the last year or so I have been a little inactive in my art but hope to resolve that soon.

Teaching Experience:

16 years freelance one to one teaching of Guitar - Mandolin - Banjo - Ukulele - Harmonica and Basic Keyboard
Currently a Children s reading assistant for the Beanstalk Charity Project

Tutoring Approach:

Being a music teacher has at least allowed me to put my love of music to a measure of professional application, perhaps to make up for the lost opportunity and time. Being paid is a motivation, but far more importantly teaching others to play and create music is much more enjoyable, I have often gone overtime on my lessons and never charged extra. Also to be considered is the experience gained over many decades of musical struggling, mistakes, embarrassing moments during performance and how to overcome them that I can impart to my pupils. I also look forward to the pupil making sufficient progress so that I can have the pleasure to "Jam" with them.

Personal Description:
I am a keen Linguist who is currently studying a joint Languages Degree at the University of Chester. I have studied and lived in China, and speak Chinese to a semi-fluent level. I also speak Spanish to a high degree and have studied each language for 7+ years

Teaching Experience:

When living in China, I had two part time teaching jobs, teaching Chinese children to speak english. The parents of these Children wanted a Native English speaker with a good grasp of Chinese. I find that I learn best when teaching, and thus it is my primary method of learning something new.

Tutoring Approach:

I can amend my teaching style to however the child learns best. I am most comfortable producing learning aids such as powerpoint presentations, and then explaining them thoroughly, but if a different approach was required, I could find or create learning aids to best suite the child, be they Audio based or Visual.
