Teaching Experience:

I have taught English in Italy and Italian in Northern Ireland. During my time in Italy, I taught English privately on a daily basis, accumulating well over 1,000 teaching hours. I also taught for an academic year at a local high school. My experience includes all ages from primary school to retirees, and from professionals to university undergraduates. Teaching English to migrant workers brought me into contact with many different people from Eastern European countries.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in tailoring my lessons to the individual or group that I am teaching. Everyone starts with different levels and abilities. I see it as my job to home in on areas that need attention and make them my focus using conversation and exercises. Teaching Experience:

A few years ago I was teaching drama at different levels, as well as English literature and language. I started teaching Maths for younger children when I came to England. I also marked theses in Literature as a lecturer and advised students on writing papers in Literature. I taught several courses; for example, Essay writing, Language skills, Communication skills and Drama and Theatre. I based my drama lessons on my experiences as a Fulbright scholar at the Drama Department at the University of Oregon, USA.

July 2008 to April 2010

I supported a young student who was studying for BA Business Accounting at the university by tutoring her in the Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Financial Analysis and Corporate Finance subjects. As a result, she achieved a 2:1 Grade. It is pertinent to note that the young student did not have any prior knowledge in Accounting. She took A Level Drama, but changed to do Accounting at the university, which makes her achievement much more remarkable.

Tutoring Approach:

In my current role as an Accounts Lecturer, I have adopted a methodical approach to my teaching. The preparation and use of scheme of work, session planning, syllabuses, timetable, lesson notes and handouts helps me in presenting my lessons in an organised and logical manner, and ensuring that the syllabuses are substantially covered. I am confident and positive in my teaching and able to build confidence in the students themselves, which helps in achieving the learning objectives set for each lesson and thereby achieving the overall objectives of the course. I adopt a mixture of pedagogical and andragogical approach to my teaching. I thoroughly explain first to the students, demonstrate a couple of examples, then get the students to demonstrate their understanding, by getting them to do some work themselves.

Personal Description:
I am a teacher with over thirty years' classroom experience in both Primary and Secondary schools. I have taught in UK state schools as well as overseas.

Throughout my years in schools both home and abroad I have tutored Primary, Secondary and Adult students as a vocation as well as to supplement my income.

Teaching Experience:

My experience includes 12 years teaching English and History to GCSE and A level in the UK secondary system and eight years teaching the same subjects to the same levels in international schools in Italy, Egypt and Kenya.

During this time I have always had a number of students on my books for home tuition to provide extra help in Primary, Secondary and University level subjects.

My English GCSE students last year all achieved A-C grades and my A level History student achieved an A (predicted C after Year 12) and is now at university. In previous years, my A level History students have never achieved less than a C and in 2014, I had a student who reached A* and is now studying the subject at Exeter University.

Tutoring Approach:

In my long experience of tutoring I have seen the benefits in aptitude and confidence that pupils can gain from one-to-one tuition. In the unique one-to-one situation the teacher can inspire pupils to begin at last to see the relevance of subjects they find difficult to grasp in a high-pressure environment like school.

Once the pupil sees the need to master the subject I take them on to the next stage where they can undertake tasks which build up their confidence. It is also a means for me to ascertain what the pupil's strengths are and to build on them.

The next stage is the slightly more painful one of identifying weaknesses and gauging the pupil's awareness of them and motivation to put them right. Once the student and I have agreed which areas need improvement we use lesson time to extend competence and skills by undertaking thinking and written assignments that allow the student to develop these.

Any homework set will advance and reinforce the skills the pupil has been encouraged to bring to the lesson.

Tutoring Approach:

I have always enjoyed studying and teaching Biology which has effectively been my lifetime's work. I have extensive experience of teaching students from many different educational backgrounds and I have always been able to relate to my students and nurture an enthusiasm for the subject. As a tutor I would aim to make my lessons enjoyable but rigorous and I will always try my best to boost the confidence of my tutees. I studied at Stanford University for four years, including one year through its study abroad programme in Paris. I have also worked many years as a professional musician, touring in the UK, Europe, USA and Mexico.

Teaching Experience:

I taught English to high school students for one year in France.
In a night school in Utah (USA) I taught English as a second language to adults.
I have taught music (guitar, ukulele and piano) for nearly 10 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in student-centred teaching, so rather than impose strict rules I approach each student as an individual in order to find the best approach for gaining skills and confidence in the subject. Structure is also important, however, and it's important to use exercises and repetition to really come to terms with a subject. Games and songs have their place, too; let's have fun while we're learning!

I have extensive experience tutoring Mathematics at the Standard Grade, Higher and Advanced Higher levels (Scottish equivalent of GCSE and A-level), and at AS and A-level. I have also been a teaching assistant and college tutor for several undergraduate Mathematics courses, across a number of topics in algebra and analysis and at all levels, at Oxford. In addition to this teaching experience, I have also assisted in giving undergraduate admissions interviews in Mathematics at Oriel College, Oxford, and so would be able to help students wishing to apply to Oxford in the nature and content of undergraduate maths interviews.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach in tutoring is oriented around the student: their expectations, background knowledge and way of thinking; and what they see as most important to focus on, be it a particular part of mathematics, or a certain type of problem. While it is useful and necessary for students to be familiar with certain recipes and templates for solving different types of problems, ideally, the aim is to give them a deeper understanding of the ideas behind the material they learn and the problems they are set. This provides a much firmer basis for an appreciation of mathematics and a greater problem solving ability.

I'm Karis, a 21 year old university graduate just looking to help out wherever I can. I have worked with children and young people since mid-secondary school coaching sports. I'm a hard-working, results-driven, positive individual interested in working with children and young people as it wasn't long ago I was in their exact position in GCSE and A-Level. Growing up I wanted to be a secondary school PE teacher, but due to limited places on PGCE's nowadays, and more positive experiences as a teaching assistant, I am now considering becoming a teaching assistant, or continuing a primary school based coaching project that I'm currently taking part in in university.

Teaching Experience:

I have coached children since aged 14 in a range of sports to try and help them develop a variety of interpersonal skills, and skills and qualities in the sports.
Between the age of 16-18 I ran an after-school netball club in primary schools to develop a team and take them to competitions.
After leaving 6th form I continued going in to primary schools with my secondary school teacher, assisting her in leading sessions for the children.
During university, I completed work placements working as a teaching assistant in London.
I also worked on a project for university in taking sports and nutrition in to primary schools to relieve teachers of their PE lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

I try to be as easy-going and laid-back as I can be in my approach, I listen to what the child has to say and I help them and try to ease their knowledge out of them with a variety of questions. Its a self-discovery/self-guided approach using Mosston's Spectrum of teaching. For example, I'd ask them questions based on a particular topic or question they need to be able to answer, which leads them to figure out the correct answers themselves, etc. Not only will I use a self-discovery route, but when necessary I'd provide information and knowledge that I know in order to help them achieve their potential.

First of all I will find out from you in a free consultation exactly what you want help with and what your goals are for studying English with me. Then I will plan our lessons according to your English needs. Usually in a normal lesson we will have conversation and speaking practise and I will give you plenty of opportunity to speak and practise your English, then I will give you feedback and go through your mistakes with you. I will also teach you new vocabulary and then we will practise this in speaking activities. However, if you are really confident in speaking English and want to practise other skills such as reading then we will do this instead. Usually I teach lessons that incorporate speaking, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading and grammar. I think homework is very important so I will also set you homework to do in your own time.

Writing: if you would like me to correct your writing (for example you send it to me, I mark it and send it back), my fee for this is 14 per hour, plus Paypal fees.

Teaching Experience:

I am a current tutor for the philosophy department at the University of Dundee. I also teach the philosophy summer course for the university.

I have been a tutor for 5 years and teaching the summer course for 2 years.

I also previously taught an adult course for the University of Dundee based on a causal reading of the philosophy of Plato.

Tutoring Approach:

Philosophy is a difficult subject to understand with technical concepts and explanations. My teaching approach simplifies these concepts and explanations by relating them to everyday examples. Also where appropriate they are also related to film and tv examples. This approach then aims to clarify and help the student's understanding but also make the learning process fun and engaging.

Philosophy is also a subject that encourages critical thinking. I encourage my students to be critical of the philosophers and ideas that are being discussed. Their criticisms then can illuminate a deep problem in the philosophy or be comparable to another philosopher's objection.

Resolution of any problems or issues that arise whilst addressing a philosopher is also key. This is because no problem is trivial and helps to clarify the student's understanding and also make the text easier to understand. Any problem will be addressed such as difficultly in understanding an area in the text, concept, or in understanding another philosopher's criticism.

Homework will be given that covers the discussion. Typically these questions will be for the student to give an explanation of concept and how this can be practically applied.

I am from Burgundy in France, I spent five years in an International boarding school (France) and came to London right after my Baccalaureat, I have been here for eight years.
I have a vast knowledge regarding art practice as I have been working in a studio for years as an artist. However, I have chosen to write rather than practice. I have specialised in Contemporary Art Theory because it is for me primordial to consider art within its context. I have studied sociology, philosophy and geopolitics during my Master.
I am highly curious and passionate about Art. My favourite periods are the Renaissance and the 20th century to nowadays. I tend not to be Eurocentric.
My last role was Gallery Manager for an art collector who was hosting private salons and exhibitions. Likewise, I have worked in many galleries in London and Paris.
I aim to work in the education or programming departments of art and cultural institution. I am currently working as a consultant for community centres (from 5 years old to adults) and collaborate with a collective.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working in the education department of galleries (Paris and London), and I have been assisting other artists or curating and sometimes facilitating my own participatory projects. In some ways, those projects and workshops are a different type of art classes. I usually work with a maximum of five children and ten adults. I am looking forward to focusing on one single person.
