Personal Description:
I'm a ex-mathematical physicist from Cambridge turned film director, and also freelance as a data-scientist. I have two funded feature films in development and have made music videos and adverts. I started tutoring when I switched careers because the film industry is unstable, especially as a freelancer. I keep up the tutoring now because I enjoy it and look for assignments I think are interesting and where I can really make a difference.

I am passionate about the subjects I tutor in and education in general. Education forms the foundation for freeing us from bigotry and ignorance, makes us better people and permits us to live richer, better lives. Knowledge is liberating and my subjects especially open many doors. They are not easy and require a willingness to work hard, but I strongly believe that anyone can get to grips with them if given the correct guidance. Most often the problem is not the student but a poor teacher, unresolved conceptual difficulties or lack of motivation. I want to fix these issues for you.

I'd say my approach to education is rigorous, highly intellectual and what one might term renaissance in approach. I'm interested in all aspects of education, and how our disparate academic disciplines connect which is somewhat antithetical to the modern approach to education but just the sort of thing one needs to get into Oxbridge and the like.

Why is tutoring important to me? Firstly, I feel it is my responsibility to pass on the knowledge and skills I have attained; secondly, I find it satisfying to help others learn and achieve what they did not think possible, regardless of their ability; and finally, I think one of the best ways to assess your own understanding of a subject is to teach it; we learn the most about our areas of expertise when we try convey their concepts and methods to an audience.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored many (over 100) students privately over the past six years, improving their results in all cases where the students have followed my advice and worked hard. I'm only interested in teaching people who are prepared to do this work and better themselves, especially if its for something like the 11+/common entrance.

Beside the subjects listed in my profile, I will also teach 11+/common entrance, coding/game design, statistics and probability, film-making, creative writing, government and politics, economics.

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient and I persevere. I am happy to tutor people across all ranges of ability but I expect you to work hard and follow my advice.

My tutoring includes:

- encouragement of free and critical thinking
- varying teaching methods depending on what the student is most receptive to including: problem based learning, discourse, traditional exercises, experiments, lectures
- exam preparation
- confidence building
- resolution of conceptual difficulties
- helping with homework
- homework marking
- undergraduate and postgraduate application advice
- coaching for Oxbridge entrance including the STEP papers
- interview advice at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- email contact throughout the week to resolve your problems as an when they arise
- group tuition

Please note (a) while I am based in Hackney, I will cover all areas of London; (b) I can offer reductions for group sessions.

Personal Description:
I am 32 years old and have been teaching for the last 11 years. I live in the centre of Winchester and work in a local school. I live with my husband, 2 year old son and 2 cats.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in London for the past 10 years, whilst there I worked in Year 1, 3 and 6. I now work in a school in Winchester and am in Year 6. I lead English across the school and help to prepare the Year 6 pupils for the new and challenging in SATs for reading, grammar and maths. Working in London i had a lot of experience of working with EAL children and SEN children.

Tutoring Approach:

When tutoring I try to make it practical and fun. I look at what the pupil struggles with and why they are struggling with it and then I try to overcome their issues. I try to make the learning as personal as possible. For preparation for SATs, I make sure they have access to a lot of past papers so that there are no questions that will throw them.

Personal Description:
My name is Marc and I teach self defence moves/techniques that work under fear induced situations, are natural movements using body mechanics and can been taught in a short space of time. I teach the best tried and tested self defence methods that can be incorporated into existing disciplines or used solely to enable individuals to successful defend themselves.
I was a boxer for 10 years with 2 of them being at a professional level.
As well as being a Self Defence Instructor, I am also a Service Delivery Manager, Parent Governor, recurve Archer, Records/Tournaments officer for Archery club, devoted Husband and Father or 2 beautiful daughters.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching Natural Self Defence for 6 years on a one to one basis or in groups of 2 to 20 people. I offer to train people, 1-2-1 or in small groups, in their own homes so traveling to my course is not a problem. I have been a Manager within I.T for 22 years where I have had to teach all levels of personnel (from engineers to senior executives). Training includes technical, managerial, financial, procedural and personal development e.g. confidence building, goal setting, assertiveness and career progression.

Tutoring Approach:

I use handouts to enable people to take notes at particular sections of the training and also encourage open discussions on techniques, moves and legal implications of our actions. Each move is explained in detail and reasons why particular approaches are recommended.
Each week the previous weeks instructions are gone through and discussed in case a question has been thought of between sessions.
I encourage note taking whilst training to ensure the moves are not only phyiscally carried out/remembered but also mentally committed to memory.
I offer to train people, 1-2-1 or in small groups, in their own homes so traveling to my course is not a problem.

Personal Description:
I am a full time professional online physics tutor and an excellent physics communicator. I have the ability, understanding and resources to get the best out of students for their GCSEs, A levels and undergraduate degrees. I am a fully qualified, DBS checked, physics teacher with nine years teaching and tuition experience across all ages and abilities. Working as an examiner for the major exam boards in the UK has given me a detailed understanding of examination requirements, I extend this insight to my students, giving them not only the required knowledge for their exams but also the very best exam technique. I have just been awarded a Ph.D. in Physics, this involved producing cutting edge research for future solar technology, this work helps me to inspire my students. I am passionate about my subject and I really enjoy my job as a tutor. So if you, or someone you know, wants to learn physics and get higher grades please get in touch.

I will provide:
Increased students grades (see testimonials)
Friendly, reliable and professional service
Inspiration and encouragement
Supporting homework and problems
Highly efficient and effective environment for learning
Excellent subject knowledge
Increased problem solving skills
Significant improvements to exam technique
An ability to get the best out of students
A level, GCSE and Undergraduate Physics tutorials
A level and GCSE Chemistry and Mathematics tutorials
Help with university entrance exams

Teaching Experience:

I am a professional Physics tutor with nine years teaching and tutoring experience. In 2005 I graduated from Leeds University with a BSc Physics, having achieved the second highest mark in the year.  I received a PGCE (post graduate certificate in education) from Nottingham University in 2007.  After which I completed an NQT followed by two years at the Brunts School in Mansfield, with particular success teaching GCSE and A-level Physics.

In 2011 I started tutoring part time while studying for a Masters in Nanoscience at Nottingham University. I graduated in 2012 having achieved the highest mark in the history of the course (79.3%), while my tutees have made massive improvements.

I have obtained a PhD in Physics. This involved using X-ray based techniques to analyse molecules and nanostructures on surfaces. The primary goal was to investigate charge transfer between these nanostructures and various surfaces.  Charge transfer is very important for solar cells and organic LEDs and his research leads to fundamental understanding of the physics behind these technologies.  Part of this work involved attending MAX-Lab IV in Lund, Sweden and Soleil in Paris to which involved using a synchrotron, which is an X-ray producing particle accelerator.  I hope that this research will lead to developing new technologies for light flexible displays and low cost solar power generation.

Tutoring Approach:

I will work with the student to quickly find the problems they are having with physics, then rebuild their knowledge or correct their misconceptions, making the relevant physics clear and easy to understand. Challenging questions and assignments will be set to drive, encourage and push a student outside of tutorials. This also helps to carefully assess knowledge and give them a much clearer understanding. Working through problem solving, examination techniques and confidence building exercises, I can improve a students' performance in any exam. Ultimately driving students towards their best while making the learning process fun, enjoyable and inspirational.

How online tutorials work:
Tutorials online are conducted over Skype or FaceTime using Scribbler. This means students can see me and talk to me via a video call. Scribbler is an interactive white board used by both myself and my student, it is web based so only a flash enabled web browser is required (it doesn't work on an iPad). This allows students to work with me on problems, and keep their tutorial notes in one place for revision. I also used a wide range a range of animations and online resources, which are carefully selected to improve understanding.

Whatever you need:
So if you just need help with a few problems, a complete course in physics from scratch, or anything in-between, I can help, please get in touch.

Personal Description:
I'm an easy going, empathetic, supportive and a very patient tutor who is dedicated to all my students and teaching Maths. I'm very thorough in my teaching and ensure no stone is left unturned in preparing for my student's maths exams/tests. I enjoy helping my students reach their full potential and achieve their aims. I encourage all my students to take a general interest in Mathematics as this helps them in doing well. I do 1 to 1 tuition and also tutor small groups of no more than 4 students. I teach all levels up to and including A-Level and for all exam boards (AQA, EDEXCEL and OCR). I have thus far been very successful as a Maths tutor and hope to continue this trend especially in light of the tremendous performance of my students in the 2016 academic year. I specialize in helping my students obtain grades A-A* in their exams. Every GCSE (Higher) and A-Level Student I have ever tutored has gained grades A* to C.

Teaching Experience:

I'm a Teacher of Mathematics at a local academy in Luton (11-19 year olds) and have had 6 years experience in private tuition, teaching Mathematics at all levels up to and including A-Level. Teach all abilities and ages.

Tutoring Approach:

The aim of my tuition lessons is 2 fold. Firstly it is to give my students a thorough understanding of the Mathematics modules/topics they are studying so that they are able to gain an excellent foundation in studying Mathematics or courses that have a substantial Mathematical content at a higher level. Secondly I give my students intensive and vigorous exam preparation so that they do extremely well in their examinations and achieve high grades. This is usually done by by doing many past papers under exam conditions. I also set my students difficult questions to complete (from many different sources and references). These questions are more difficult than what would normally appear in their actual exams. The purpose of making my students do these questions is so that they are totally prepared to tackle any questions that their exams or tests may throw at them.

Personal Description:
I am a fifth year medical student at Imperial College London and recently completed my BSC degree in healthcare management from Imperial Business School.

During my school career I achieved 8 A* and 4 A's. Furthermore I achieved 1 A* and 3 A's during my A levels, additionally I also achieved another A at As level in Further Maths. My AS physics grade was the best in my year achieving. 296/300 UMS. I have participated in the UK maths challenge achieving the bronze and silver award.

Teaching Experience:

I helped teach many students from younger years in a range of subjects and enjoyed watching them progress and improve. I think the fact that having just been through what most of these students are going through gives me a slight advantage due to my knowledge being recent and up to date. I also have experience in teaching A-level Maths as well as GCSE Maths.

I have previously served on Imperial College's Interview Panel for Medicine as there student representative and thus have an extensive insight into the interview process, the typical questions asked and the factors that differentiate candidates. I am ex-president of one of Imperial largest education society running a host of events including PotMed, a workshop attended by more than 200 secondary school students aimed at helping individuals in there medical school application process.

Tutoring Approach:

I am patient and calm in my approach and try to ensure that each of my students understands the concepts of what I am teaching. I appreciate that each student is different and the approach taken to each of them must remain flexible.

View Charles's profile or  Quick View

Personal Description:
I have a BA (Hons) in Classics from the University of Oxford, followed by an MA in Classics from King's College London, for which I received a Distinction. I started tutoring Classics part-time in September 2013 for Kaleido Tutors (can supply reference), then expanded to freelance work in Spring 2014, when I began tutoring English Language and Literature. Despite my academic credentials in Classics, my love and learning of English literature has remained strong since A-level (Grade A), and I am currently researching for a PhD which will cover both Classical and English literature (likely starting at King's College London, Jan 2015). My academic aspirations do not hamper my commitment to tutoring: not only do I thoroughly enjoy teaching, but it helps to ground and shape my interest in the subjects of Classics and English.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring Latin and Greek for a year (starting immediately after finishing my MA in Classics in Sept 2013), and English Language & Literature since Spring 2014:
- All tutees (freelance/Kaleido Tutors) experienced at least a two grade increase, with most achieving >90% in end of year exams (Summer 2014).
- One Latin tutee went from near-bottom to top of his class to top (97% end of year result).

Tutoring Approach:

The great advantage of one-to-one tutoring over classroom teaching is that I can pay full attention to the uniqueness of the tutee. Everyone is different, and I am able to match my skills to the tutee's needs, iron out any particular foibles, and thus increase the tutee's confidence in the subject. Tuition in both English and Classical subjects centres around the same skill set: attention to detail, effective lesson structure, allowing the tutee the freedom to find the correct answer, as opposed to just lecturing.

My favourite aspect of Classical and English literature is the unparalleled connection between the nuts and bolts of the languages and the grand themes they explore. I believe this relationship is key to the effective tuition of language and literature: I like to find a literary theme my tutee is interested in and tie it to the intricacies of the language - grammar does not have to be learnt in a bubble.

I have been a secondary school teacher for almost ten years, having experience of teaching from Year 7 all the way through A-Level. I am fully CRB checked (teachers require an enhanced CRB) and this can be provided upon request.

My results consistently outstrip national achievements both in Business Studies and ICT. I have been observed and graded at "Outstanding" by Ofsted on multiple occasions.

I have high standards and expect the same of my students, while maintaining a fun and relaxed approach to learning.

As a married father of a two year old boy who is already getting into IT(!) I know the importance of people having the necessary skills to succeed in the real world. More and more businesses now require "sound computer skills" before they'll even consider you for many posts.

I feel privileged to work in my current profession and am looking to extend that to others. I am a season ticket holder at Colchester United and, when I'm not teaching or being bored to death by the U's, I enjoy gardening, reading, travel and films.

Teaching Experience:

Six years at Holbrook Academy as Head of Faculty (2008 - date)
Three years at Philip Morant School teaching ICT & Business Studies (2005 - 2008)
Personal tutoring already completed

Tutoring Approach:

I have high expectations of my students and expect them to work to the best of their ability once they have the skills to succeed. I believe in independent learning and discovery but appreciate that my role as a facilitator and teacher is important to foster and develop theses skills in learners.

My students are used to developing their confidence through supervised tasks in such a way that they can tackle more complex problems later themselves. I will not do work for my students but I will work for my students so they can do it for themselves.

Personal Description:
I'AM AAT QUALIFIED AND ACCA FINALIST. I do lecture on-line via Skype and also could meet you up for one to one basis

Teaching Experience:

I have taught on many aspects of accountancy subjects, these include F6 Taxation, F2 Management accounting, F3 Financial Accounting, F7 Financial Reporting and F8 Audit & Assurance, which are subjects on ACCA syllabus. I have also taught on AAT (to include all units) and ABE syllabus on similar subjects and I posses a profound understanding of my chosen subjects and capable of teaching them effectively.
My excellent understanding of double entry accounting procedures provide me with the basis of dealing with various aspects of reconciliations i.e.; control account reconciliation, bank reconciliation, balance sheet reconciliation, VAT reconciliation and dealing all aspect of ledger accounts. I also have an excellent understanding of Sage line 50 and 100 and had also used many accounting packages. Recently I worked with East Surrey College on a contract basis teaching Financial Statements, Personal Tax, and Financial Performance (AAT Level 4).

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is to groom my students in a flexible manner towards passing their exams and ensuring that my lectures are carried out in a friendly and conductive environment that involves every student. I believed that teaching is a social institution as much as it is a profession, hence partnering with my students by becoming one of them provides me that yardstick to which a good relationship between us is established.

The emotional and social (pastoral) platform I created enable free communication between us and giving me that opportunity to gain their trust and their cooperation. The ramification of this is their countenance when they work in the morning and their readiness to discuss issues or their concerns with me.

My approach to teaching is methodical, resulting from the principle of hard working and professional discipline; my scheme of work and lesson plans are well prepared ahead of the start the course and handed over to my students at the very first day of every semester. Also the weekly lesson plans are given to my students one week in advance of the lectures. I always seek to start every topic within a syllabus with a tutorial question that provides student with that rudiment or fundamental principles in which that topic is enshrined.

I like the idea of interactive class, as a result I used questions as a means of communicating my lectures with my students and ensuring every student within the class is involved. I moved from one table to the other and where necessary I dealt with student on a one to one basis if I felt a particular student seemed to be lacking behind. Passing any paper within any accountancy professions require a lot of reading and treating many past questions by students.

Note that my rate is £40 flat rate if you are only requesting for one hour tuition . I DO NOT DO HOME VISIT. Please do not contact me for home visit please. Thanks!

Personal Description:
I have lived in Peterhead my whole life, attending both Clerkhill Primary School and Peterhead Academy. I have then spent the following 5 years at the University of Aberdeen Studying a range of biology and chemistry courses. I also have a current PVG disclosure Scotland certificate available upon request.

Teaching Experience:

During the final year of my undergraduate degree (2013-2014) I enrolled on the BP tutoring scheme which firstly entailed a short teacher training course before I was assigned a placement at Turriff Academy, Aberdeenshire. With the support of the classroom teacher, I was involved in the designing, delivery and evaluation of teaching materials for classes ranging from S1 to S6 in subjects such as general science, biology and chemistry. This experience greatly improved my communication skills as well as enhanced my ability to think on my feet as many of the classes I instructed were allocated to me at short notice with little time to prepare.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach is whatever you require as not everyone learns in the same way. Whether it be going through material step by step or preparing mock exam questions I am happy to help however I can.

Personal Description:
Hello,

My name is Mayan and I am a 3rd year Politics and International Relations undergraduate. I am a determined and ambitious student who is looking to tutor a young person who is struggling with their political studies.

I have always had a natural interest in national and international politics; it is ever-changing and I like to make sure I am up to date with what is happening in the world as it affects every single person!

Teaching Experience:

I have had teaching experience with children between the ages of 5 - 12 years teaching English and Maths. In 2012, I ran a debating society in my school where I coached 13-18 year olds debating and public speaking skills.

Tutoring Approach:

Firstly, I like to meet my student and understand what their course is all about as I understand from personal experience that depending on which board you are with, your exams and assignments will vary. Following this it is important for me to find out what exactly the student is struggling with; is it learning the content or exam study skills? Once we have established this, I like to take a structured approach to tutoring where both the student and I will agree on what we would like to achieve each week - whether it is how to make a great essay or learning a new political topic!

I like to motivate my students to love what they are studying and not to just do it for the sake of it. I hope that I can help you with not only the political content but in really enjoying the subject!

Where I teach: University of Southampton. This is because I truly believe that it is important to be in a quiet and focused room in a study environment! This is useful for both myself and the student to ensure the best grades.

I am very flexible so if there is anything that you require as a student or parent, please let me know!

Personal Description:
I am twenty seven years old. I have a Masters degree in Information technology management from the University of Wolverhampton in 2014. I have a BSc in Computing from University of Wolverhampton in 2012. I like to be professional, I like to do research, and I never like wasting people's time.

I believe that, it is vital that students from age eleven begin to understand that professionalism is a vital part of the career they will have. This is why sociology is part of the tutoring I will be providing.

Under the subject heading of sociology, I will be tutoring about professionalism in reference to your career or in reference to your education. This relates to students at GCSE level, this tutorship can be useful for A level and College student. University student and adults being tutored about professionalism can find it as time well spent.

I will be giving tutorship regarding computing, specifically data management and database development because I have knowledge of these subjects. These includes good and bad data businesses keep. For data development, I can tutor based on the skills I have and I aim to tutor based on good database practices. These subjects are aimed to help business owners, University students and adults.

I will be a tutor who tutors about business. Business analyst and system analyst will be the areas I focus on. I can assist businesses and business owners to realise how they can save money. I can help them notice the systems they have that are not needed in their organisation or businesses.

Analysing businesses to notice how the business can be improved is the reason why I will be tutoring in this area. Profit increase and helping with business challenges are my targeted areas.

College, A level and University students can benefit from these tutoring. Business analyst and system analyst tutoring is also aimed at adults.

My aims as a tutor, I aim to be punctual to get to my tutees location. I aim to give useful and good tutorship.

For tutees who are aged 11 - 16, I always like at least 1 parent or a guardian to be where I am tutoring. For tutees who are in the GCSE age group, I will always like at least 1 parent or a guardian to be where I am tutoring.

For College students and A level students comfortable with having tutorship from me without supervision, I can tutor them without supervision.

For University student and adults I can tutor them without others supervising.

For tutees who are aged 11 - 16, I can meet them and their parent or guardian at a public library close to their house. I can also come and tutor at their house if they are comfortable with that.

For tutees who are at GCSE age level, I prefer to meet them and their parents or guardian at a public library close to their house. I can also come and tutor them at their house, if they are comfortable with that.

Personal Description:
I am an English Graduate, attaining a 2:1 from Royal Holloway, University of London. I also hold an A* qualification at A Level from AQA board. I have a hugely enthusiastic and positive personality, and strive to help students find passion for English. I have also been accepted for the Teach First Leadership Development Programme, and will begin my future as a Secondary School English Teacher in September 2017.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently tutoring primary school students in reading, and have a vast amount of experience with children in a group setting at a local club. However, having studied much of the current secondary school curriculum when I was at Chesham Grammar, I am familiar with the material. I will also be beginning a post at a local secondary school in January as a Learning Support Assistant.

Tutoring Approach:

I am outgoing and enthusiastic, and believe in an interactive approach with my tutees. My goal will be not just to help with English, but to help my tutees increase their aptitude for individual work, and critical thinking. In increasing these, they will hopefully become more confident in all of their studies. I can also help with essays, and go through them before hand in, helping tutees understand where they can improve without controlling their work. I can also go through marked work to help understanding.

Personal Description:
My name is Joseph and I am a recent graduate in Engineering Mathematics from Bristol University. My passion is in mathematics and programming, but I also have an active interest in sciences as well. My A-levels were mathematics, further mathematics, physics and chemistry with grades A*, A*, A, A respectively. I am also applying for PhDs in machine learning for video games as well.
Whilst being academically capable, I also consider myself to be a good teacher too. I have ran lectures on video editing, workshops on improvisational acting and worked on plenty of group projects requiring a lot of communication to make sure all members understand what has been done and needs to be done.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience has been less personal than I would like. I have ran a lecture on the basics of video editing as well as a lot of workshops on improvisational acting. I would absolutely love to teach in a far more personal and engaging environment.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very hands on in my approach and love to have discussions with a student. I think relating work to modern day examples is very important to understand the bigger picture of "Why am I learning this?". I actively encourage questions and always try my best to explain something as best as possible for each person tutor. I don't like to give homework, but (especially for tests) I would ask students to do a little work in their own time. Usually some kind of research on something up to date and relevant examples where the work we've done is applicable.
