Personal Description:
I am a student currently studying Biological Sciences BSc at the University of Leicester, and have already achieved a first in my first year. The nature of my degree has given me a great deal of self-motivation, time-management and organisation skills. I was a debating captain at school, and so have brilliant communication skills. I was also a Citizenship and Environment Prefect, and so had to raise local and international issues to students through a variety of teaching events.

I have good leadership skills developed through a range of experiences, and I can adapt well to different situations. I am a hard-worker with an eye for detail, and am enthusiastic and dedicated to teaching well. Adaptability is a core strength for me, as I realise that students require imaginative and original ways to learn and absorb information, so they can process and apply what they learn.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored a student in A-level Biology, boosting her grade from an A to A* by working heavily on her ability to apply knowledge and by going through biological processes with her.

I have tutored a GCSE Chemistry student, making her more confident in her work by reviewing what she had learnt in school, re-teaching her what she was weak on and then testing her regularly. This boosted her grade from a B to an A.

I have also tutored a year 9 maths student in algebra and shapes/area and by using practical methods to highlight the uses of maths and help put the curriculum in context of real-life, helping her apply the principles. This boosted her D grade to a strong C.

Tutoring Approach:

On the first meeting, I hope to find out what the tutee is weak on or would like to work on. From this, I hope to test their basic knowledge of the subject material to find the depth of understanding that the tutee has. This will help both the tutee and I understand where we should focus and what topics we should target.

Throughout the course of the lessons, I will use a range of methods (oral, visual and physical) to help the tutee learn and the knowledge will be reiterated through help sheets and homework. Once a subject or module is covered, mini-tests will be done to test progress and then eventually a full exam. My main aim is to build confidence and make the student feel comfortable in what they are learning, if I achieve this much then their progress is inevitable.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Shaun. I am 22 year old PhD student at De Montfort University and I have a passion for teaching. Having completed exams and gone through the English academic pathway, I know how tough it can be to get your head around exams. Although I am young, I have good experience teaching adults and children, as you will see below. I am a balanced, understanding individual, and I have had tutoring myself in the past, so I feel that I know what it takes to build a successful student-teacher relationship. I am very outgoing, and I am sure that I will be able to assist people to get the best out of their courses.

Teaching Experience:

Part-time Lecturer De Montfort University
Teaching A-Level (a few sessions) St John Fisher Catholic College

Tutoring Approach:

Relaxed. I use a lot of IT and try to make classes as fun as possible. When I tutor I normally find that sessions never drag, and I hope this remains the case.

Please note that I am more than happy to arrange a personal meeting or phone call free of charge before I give a class. I believe that it is crucial that the student selects a tutor they are comfortable with, and I am more than happy to try ad ensure that this is the case.

Personal Description:
I am 53 years of age, married with 3 children.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified Secondary Science School teacher and have 9 years experience as a private tutor

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that one to one tuition can greatly increase both a students confidence and knowledge in a subject. I try to create an informal and relaxing atmosphere by getting to know the student. I have an extensive knowledge of all the syllabuses. I use very effective methods to enable the student to grasp any difficult concepts and eventually concentrate on exam questions and technique. I help the student to take responsibility for their own learning and understand the best methods for learning (such as use of mind maps). The great majority of my students have achieved exam results which have far exceeded their expectations.
