Personal Description:
Currently a recently qualified doctor working in the NHS

Personal Description:
To introduce myself I am married with two children, a son working in Brussels and a daughter at secondary school. There must be history in the blood in our family as I have a Cambridge history degree, my wife a history degree from Warwick and our son studied history at King's College London!
I remain fascinated by history and always remember the opening lines of J. P Hartley are The Go-Between (some of you may have seen Julie Christie in the film?) "The past is a foreign country. They do things differently there". Recent events underline the importance of our past and understanding how we came to be where we are.

Holidays for me often include visits to historic places. In the last few years, for example we have seen the Vatican, Knossos, Granada and the historic places in New England -Boston, Salem and the Plymouth Plantation. My favourite holiday country is France - because of the food!

Teaching Experience:

Since September 2007 I have been involved in distance learning tutoring Key Stage 3GSCE and AS/A2 history for an open learning organisation. I was pleased though it was mostly due to the students that three obtained A*s and three A in the first IGCSE history examination in summer 2011.This work has included the regular marking of students' essays and other work and support and guidance leading to examinations. I have attended training for the new A Levels.

I can also advise graduate and postgraduate students on dissertations, including proof reading.

Individual tutorial support has been or students retaking examinations, mostly AS and A2 on all three examining boards and I have generally made a positive difference to their results. I do not claim to be able to cover all areas of history but my range is wide. At AS/A2 I can support students covering English history topics from the Tudors to the post Second World war period, Imperial Russia from the Emancipation of the serfs until the 1917 Revolutions and the Soviet Union from 1917 until its ending in 1991. I am also confident in topics in German history from unification in 1870 down to reunification in 1989. Similarly I can cover many topics in French history starting with the revolution in 1789. In terms of international history I am familiar with the key themes from circa 1870 through to the end of the Cold War, including the Vietnam War. I can also cover most themes in American history from the Civil War until the post-war era.
At GCSE and Key Stage 3 I can cover most topics and more recently I have also been teaching a school age pupil with autism. I have an up to date CRB

Relevant Previous Experience

lecturing on modern history (C18 to C21) on both first degree and MA courses.
lecturing on a wide range of further education courses
substantial examining and assessment experience, including first degree and MA level
research in higher and further education

HMI 1989-1993 and Further Education Inspector 1993-2001 responsible for the inspection of humanities including history in higher education, further education colleges and schools, both curriculum areas and cross college.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to students is to combine high expectations with a willingness at all times to help and advance their understanding, self confidence and self esteem and encourage them to work with increasing independence. When appropriate I work out with them a study programme with clear goals.

Many of the distance learning students I have taught have been home based because they have withdrawn from school due to bullying and some are living outside the UK. So I have good experince in working with those who, for whatever reason, have found learning difficult

My work in supporting students who are resitting examinationsbgeins with a, careful review of their performance. I , check the past examination papers and the examiners' guidance from the exmanination websites so as to discover why a student's performance has fallen short of expectations and plan a programme to achieve better in a reset.

However tutors are not miracle workers. I would stress that the students cannot expect me as tutor to do everything for them but rather they also have to make a major contribution in order to achieve success.

Personal Description:
I am a Head of Mathematics working in a Birmingham high school. Therefore I have vast experience of teaching mathematics, particularly at GCSE level, including the new specification. I am an Honours Graduate from Liverpool John Moores University (BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance), and I have completed an extensive Mathematics course at Liverpool Hope University. This provided me with the knowledge and ability to teach up to A-Level Mathematics, including all Core modules but also Mechanics, Statistics and Decision mathematics. I am an accredited One-to-One Tutor after successfully completing a tuition course, approved by the Teachers Development Agency, and I have been offering private tuition for a few years now. I have a full enhanced CRB (entitling me to work with children under 18), in place which can be produced upon request.

Teaching Experience:

I currently teach mathematics to GCSE level in a 'Good' C of E High School in Birmingham where I am Head of Mathematics. I have been providing one-to-one and small group turning on since 2009. This has been with pupils aged 11 and upwards. In my teaching career I have been closely linked to intervention groups to provide tuition style teaching, in terms of exam preparation, in order to help the pupils meet the grades that they are capable of. This has been for GCSE and A Level exams. I have also had experience of tutoring college students (studying various subjects) for help with assignments that have a mathematic element. Additionally, I have been employed by other schools, over school holidays, to tutor their under-performing exam pupils.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to one-to-one tuition is always to begin with identifying the pupil's areas of strengths and weaknesses and using this information to set targets that are in-line with the aim of the tuition sessions. I like to offer a relaxed and friendly learning environment, where a good working relationship can be established. I aim to build the student's confidence in the subject and their ability. I always come well prepared to my lessons, with a variety of resources and teaching techniques along with personal learning objectives for each session. These strategies are used to enthuse, stimulate and educate the student in order to make the relevant progression for that individual. There is always a clear line of progression from one lesson to the next as well as an appropriate pace within each lesson. I have high expectations of all my students and always encourage a pupil to make the most out of every session and achieve the best they can.

Personal Description:
I have just moved from London to Leamington Spa, where I taught English Functional Skills for the London Borough of Waltham Forest for 10 years.

First and foremost, I attempt to create a trusting relationship through empathy and listening skills which enables me to identify the student's needs and to develop strategies to support them. I teach skills to assist the development of independent learning: research, reading and proof reading strategies and writing skills including grammar, spelling and structure.

I believe in the importance of being able to communicate in writing effectively as it is empowering in many ways. It enables us to apply for jobs and perform successfully in jobs as most involve writing in various forms. I have worked in arts administration as a Development Co-ordinator at The Whitechapel Art Gallery where I needed to write letters and brochures persuasively to attract donations and sponsorship of exhibitions. Many job roles involve creating marketing materials as does running your own business. Being able to articulate and write a complaint letter is also empowering. So hi-lighting how necessary writing skills are can help to motivate students.

Also I am passionate about reading fiction, English and foreign literature, as well as poetry and belong to two book clubs. Literature gives us an imaginative insight into other lives, emotions and stories which helps to enrich our own lives. I have enjoyed going to the RSC in Stratford and the live screenings of plays at The Spa Centre. So for me the transformational power of the arts is what gives life meaning.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught for 10 years English/Literacy in community centres for Waltham Forest Adult Learning Service and provided 1:1 Dyslexia Support. Most recently I completed my Postgraduate Certificate in Adult Literacy at The Institute of Education, University College London. I have also taught adults with learning difficulties and have supported children with special needs at primary school.

Tutoring Approach:

I enjoy working on a 1:1 basis with students rather than a classroom situation as I can get to know them more and build up a personal relationship enabling me to understand their needs and design strategies to support them and build up their confidence. I believe that you need to devise with the student their main goals and then break them down into smaller achievable steps and stages.

Personal Description:
Unlike most tutors, I am a qualified and successful Physics teacher.

I am an experienced and fully qualified secondary school teacher in Science with a specialism in Physics. I have vast experience of tutoring from year 7 up to A-level and unlike other tutors I am also a qualified teacher who is currently teaching in the classroom. This allows me to be up-to-date with curriculum changes, coursework requirements and thorough knowledge of areas which students struggle with in all aspects of Science. I am also a six form school tutor which means that I understand the requirements for entry into six form and the UCAS process.

I am originally from Wales and have been living in North London for 14 years. I consider myself to be friendly and conscientious. Education is an important tool and I enjoy working with children and seeing them be the best that they can be.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently a secondary school Physics teacher with 6+ years experience. I am also responsible for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) at my school. Both of my parents were teachers and tutors (Head of Department in Science and SENCO) whilst I was growing up. Therefore teaching and education have always been an important part of my life.
I am a teacher and have taught 11-19 year old students in three comprehensive mixed schools in various boroughs in London including Hillingdon Borough, Camden and Haringey.
I am currently tutoring a number of students to achieve their best in AS Physics (AQA/EDEXCEL/OCR board) and teaching A-level OCR Physics at school. I have vast experience teaching KS3 Science and KS4 every board.

Tutoring Approach:

Each child is different, so I like to design a plan after first finding out where the problems arise. Every child is different and I find that you cannot treat every child in the same way. I follow the syllabuses and specification, as these are my main tools as well as past exam papers........practice makes perfect!

It is great to see their confidence growing in the subject and hopefully their enjoyment!

Personal Description:
A postgraduate student at Cass Business School, studying Actuarial Science. Just graduated from University of Manchester with Mathematics with Finance.
As a native speaker of Mandarin and Cantonese, I grew up in Hong Kong and had been studied in Malaysia for 2 years and Hong Kong for the rest. In addition, I have 2 younger sisters as a eldest brother and therefore I do well in tutoring. In my past Foundation year, I gained A* in Pure Mathematics, and A* in Business Mathematics and A in Computer. I am convinced that my academic achievement makes me a good fit in tutoring Mathematics for GCSE/A-Level students.

Teaching Experience:

In past, in Hong Kong and Malaysia, I tutored friends and anyone who were around me in Mathematics, which gave me loads of chance to enhance my teaching approaches.
I taught in Manchester last 2 years as well.

Tutoring Approach:

I would be more than happy to go trough past exam papers and exercises as for Maths with students.
Surely, to prepare notes and advice certain study skills for the students in Mathematics. I reckon that tutoring in a friendly manner would enhance learning process instead of forcing the student to do as said. You are more then welcome to have a briefing before the first tuition in order to make sure we have the same goal.

Personal Description:
My name is Margo and I'm 35. I am an avid cyclist and in 2011 fulfilled my lifelong dream of cycling round the world. My 27,000 km, New Zealand to Scotland trip took 2 years to complete and was the best experience of my life so far. As for other interests, I am a keen mountain biker and take part in the Scottish cross country championships every year. Before setting off on my trip, I came 2nd overall in the female masters category and 2nd in the sport category at the British championships.

Teaching Experience:

Before leaving the UK in 2009, I had been working as a French teacher for almost 7 years. Much of my work came from tuition agencies, with whom I taught students up to University level. I taught French to adult learners at the Glasgow College of Commerce in 2007 and pre 5's in several nursery schools around Glasgow from 2004 to 2009. I studied French and German at the University of Glasgow and finished my degree in 2001. I have however mainly focused on French during my teaching career. I have lived in France and worked as an English assistant in a French school for one year during the 4th year of my degree and have just returned from working in the French Alps for a year. More importantly, in September I am returning to Glasgow University to do my PGDE(teacher training year) to become a "proper" secondary French teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

Whether you are a parent looking to give their child a head start in foreign language learning, a Highers student struggling with exam practice or just an adult looking to learn a new skill, I am here to help. I have many years experience working with all ages and levels and would love to get you to where you want to be in French.

Personal Description:
I am an organised, sociable and confident individual with a can-do attitude, I have discovered that I possess skills and attributes which are transferable within many different job roles both related and unrelated to my education. These include: Reaching targets (personal and professional). Writing memos, notes and feedback, record keeping, communication with office, school faculties, parents and carers. I speak several languages, including Hindi, Gujarati French and Spanish.

Teaching Experience:

Having working for education for 15+ years and covered various areas from: special need, controlling classes, providing feedback for absent teacher, observing health and safety of all involved people. I attend meetings, first Aid, in house and external training days. Report abnormalities, Feed back etc.
I have worked for interpreting services in a various sectors: Independent tribunal, social services, School and OAP organisation. I handle invoices to and from.
I have worked for weekend school for Children, Youth and Family University, where I supported family and children of all ages and back ground. Bought resources, issued invoices, planned lessons and delivered according to dead line.
I get on well with all ages and back ground. I work on my own and as a part of a team. I speak several languages and translate the too , for example, Hindi Gujarati, Urdu, Punjabi.

Tutoring Approach:

Students and parents both want academic success - high grades and the pride that comes with achievement. I believe any student, regardless of ability, can become a high achiever. I know from years of experience that students under perform because they have not learned the right approach or pathway to success.

Any school has the same essential components: attendance, class participation, attentiveness, homework and testing. Most teachers give students points for each category; however, simply showing up on a regular basis and "doing" homework will not guarantee a good grade. The difference between average performance (a "C" student) and high performance (an "A" student) turns on what a student does outside of class.

While no two students learn exactly alike in exactly the same manner, all students must struggle with independent learning. Where do I do my homework? When do I do my homework? How do I do my homework? Am I well organized? If not, how can I become better organized? Do I know how to study for quizzes and tests? If not, how can I develop better study skills? Students who discover the answers to these questions become high achievers.

help students become stronger independent learners by developing a customized approach to their needs, cognition and retention. Students can spend hours working very hard but working inefficiently to the point their effort fails to translate into results. I create personalized organizational plans so that students learn how to maximize time, work efficiently and retain key information not just for the short term but for the long term.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced teacher of both classics and modern languages, and have taught in a variety of secondary schools. I have stopped classroom teaching now because of the demands of a young family but I am keen to carry on teaching in a different capacity. I am passionate about languages, words and communication and love to share this with others. I have lived abroad for prolonged periods in France and Italy, and travel to see friends there whenever possible.

Teaching Experience:

Since completing my PGCE in 1992 I have taught Latin, Greek, French and Italian, from beginners to A level and Oxbridge, in secondary schools, both private and state. More recently I have been giving private lessons to both adults and teenagers.
***PLEASE NOTE THAT I TEACH ANCIENT GREEK, NOT MODERN! The UK tutors website does not give Ancient Greek as an option in the drop down list. I am not able to teach modern Greek.

Tutoring Approach:

Successful language teaching should combine a fun approach using oral practice including song lyrics and games with a more structured approach to grammar; this gives the student confidence that they really understand the language used. The advantage of private lessons is that I can focus on what the individual learner wants, which might be lots of oral practice to become more proficient at speaking, or to pass a specific exam. I do like to set homework from week to week as this is an important part of progress; but it is not compulsory!

Personal Description:
I am a professional tutor specialising in Philosophy & Religious Studies A levels. I have undergraduate and masters degrees in Philosophy.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored As and A2 students in AQA, EDEXCEL, OCR and WJEC exam boards.

I have tutored both Philosophy & Religious studies A Level for 4 years.

Tutoring Approach:

I achieve a good balance between bringing out the fun and interesting side of the curriculum while also keeping focused on the precise requirements for achieving high grades in exams.

I am very good at explaining exactly how to write an essay which picks up as many marks as possible. A level essay writing is a skill in itself which can be broken down into succinct elements.

Too often, teachers merely teach the content of the curriculum without showing students exactly how to work that content into a successful essay. I find the best way to inspire confidence is to first teach something and then explain exactly how a student might then write about it in an essay. By the time I finish teaching a topic, my students have a clear idea of how to write an essay on it.

I have a keen interest in the political and cultural issues that surrounded religion & philosophy in the world today. I find that drawing out the connections between academic ideas and the real world is invaluable for inspiring engagement and interest.

Personal Description:
I am a very dedicated, patient and outgoing person. I am fluent in French, English and Hindi. I have good communication and organizational skills as I have been team leader for different projects both at university and at my place of work. What I have to offer is an approach to tutoring which will be fun, engaging and challenging on all individual levels, adjusted to their preferred progression pace. I am currently studying Psychology at Kingston University. I have an A-Level certificate bearing an A grade in French and I must say I have always loved the subject.

Teaching Experience:

I gave private tuitions in French and Mathematics up to GCSEs for more than 3 years now, with a group of 8 students. Throughout my experience, I have developed excellent teaching skills and I am now confident in guiding students to the rightful path and help them achieve excellent grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I can easily put myself in the skin of my students and try to turn complicated things into simple terms. I try to maintain a friendly relationship with my students and at the same time be very professional at work. The most important thing to remember is that I was and still am a student, which helps me understand what is expected from a teacher. I also keep track of the student's progress and use different methods such as exam papers which I find very useful to achieve the desired grades to motivate them. Also, I always try to make the student do the same exercises more than once as practice makes perfect. I want to develop a career in teaching hence any experience will be valuable for me.

Personal Description:
I'm an Engineering PhD student at the University of Cambridge, and my research is in vibrations and acoustics. I did my undergraduate degree at the University of Bristol where I achieved a 1st. At A level I studied Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry and French.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching two students Maths at KS3 level, one of whom moved up a Maths set at school with my help. Most recently I taught a third student A level Maths last year, helping him to achieve As in both the exams he sat. I also have a younger sibling who I'm always helping with homework!

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best way for a student to build confidence is to work in a relaxed environment, where they're not afraid to say the wrong answer. I use the student's textbook to guide the pace of their studies and to help prepare questions for each lesson.

Personal Description:
I am primarily an animal portrait artist who works on a commission basis but I also enjoy painting other subject matter. My favourite medium is pastels as I love the soft effects that can be achieved, especially when dealing with fur. I work privately from my studio facility, which is part of an artist's network in central Hadleigh as well as teaching in people's homes and I also deliver workshops to art groups around Essex.

I exhibit locally and have had work accepted at the Mall Gallery in London. My latest commission was to produce a mural in conjunction with a local primary school. I also have several years experience of working with children in all age groups.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching one-to-one sessions over the last three years from beginners to intermediate and teaching in groups within a workshop session. I have experience of teaching both children and adults in a wide range of mediums, with the ability to differentiate the work if needed.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is very supportive and encouraging. I like to put people at their ease, with friendly surroundings, so that they can savour the lesson and gain experience. My goal is to teach my students techniques in both drawing and understanding colour so they can ultimately develop their own style. There is the opportunity to try a range of mediums and learn the skills associated with each.

Personal Description:
I recently returned to the UK after a number of years living and teaching in China, and now I wish to use the experience i have gained over the years to help students who need to learn English in the UK.
When i am not working i enjoy travelling and playing sport. In addition to living in China, i have also lived in New Zealand and Australia and travelled extensively in Europe.

Teaching Experience:

I have been an ESL teacher for 8 years. My experience has been gained predominantly in China, though i have taught at a college in the UK. I have taught a variety of nationalities and also all ages and levels. I possess both the CELTA and DELTA teaching practice qualifications. I was also an IELTS speaking and writing test examiner for two years and have passed a Cambridge certified online course in the teaching of IELTS.

Tutoring Approach:

Having lived and worked in China for many years, i am aware of the difficulty of learning a foreign language. However,i believe that with the right attitude, approach and guidance it is possible to achieve your study goals in any language.
I believe in establishing realistic and quantifiable goals when beginning tutoring for progress to be measured against. I also believe that work done in a student's own time is as important as work done in a formal classroom setting. Regular review of what has been studied is also vital.

Personal Description:
I am 33 years old and married. I am a Science teacher at a well known state school in Hackney.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching whilst living in Asia. I taught English for over 5 years and predominantly through tutoring. I then began teaching I.B Biology at British International school in Shanghai for two years. I have now been teaching in the UK for 4 years and have taught OCR, AQA and Edexcel GCSE science as well as OCR AS/A2 Biology.

Tutoring Approach:

I consider myself to be extremely friendly and personable and think its very important to make sessions fun and enjoyable whilst really pushing students to achieve above and beyond their expected grades. Developing a strong bond with the students so that they are comfortable is extremely important to me. However, I also feel that students must be able to feel that they are making progress at school. As such I like to make sure that I am teaching on top of what they are learning at school. I proactively teach materials before they are taught at school so they are more able to engage and excel in the classroom. I also like to help prep students for exams by going over past papers together and building exam techniques/strategies. I like to show presentations through my computer and work though activity sheets and past papers.
