Personal Description:
I recently stepped down as Head of German at the secondary school in Kidderminster, where I have led the German Department since 1995. I now work as a German classroom teacher. My decision to step down was based on the fact that I got married in July last year and now have to travel a considerable distance to my school. During my time as Head of Department, the results at Key Stage 3, GCSE, AS and A2 have improved considerably. The pass rate for GCSE German has been approximately 80% for several years. This is higher than the national average and was based on 3 years of study to GCSE. Many pupils achieve top A*, A and B grades. The pass rate at AS and A2 has also been excellent with pupils achieving As, Bs and Cs. Former pupils have gone on to study languages at top-ranking universities and some have returned to the school in a teaching capacity for Modern Languages.

I have also worked as a tutor in Further Education teaching adults from aged 20 - 80 years from beginner's up to GCSE type work.

I am have friends in Germany and visit on a regular basis and keep up to date with new teaching ideas via the MFL Resources Forum.

I am interested in using a range of teaching strategies and personalising learning to meet the needs of learners. You Tube and ICT feature in my classroom.

Personal Description:
Not everyone can reach their potential in a class of perhaps thirty students, especially if peer pressure, noise and poor behaviour work against their best efforts; even at university nowadays, seminar groups are often crazily over-large. I began teaching as a genuine vocation, after many successful years as a marketing manager in the pharmaceutical industry. It is this background that makes me different; it has given me an approach to teaching that has changed the outlook and results of many young students similar to your own son and daughter, inspiring them with renewed confidence and enthusiasm. The large number of genuine four and five star references on this site and elsewhere are evidence of this. As well as teach, I also write for several publishers including the BBC; also I have been the "BBC Bitesize English teacher" for some years, responding to educational queries sent in to their website.

I have taught English Language and Literature (as well as Media and Film Studies) to KS3, GCSE, A-level and under-graduate level for several years; I also tutor primary (KS2) students, helping them with their KS2 and entrance exam preparation. My speciality, apart from a natural love of English Literature. is linguistics and I suppose, through my teaching materials, I have become quite well known even nationally for my work in this area.

I taught for many years at the county's leading comprehensive school, The Beauchamp College in Oadby, where year-on-year my classes achieved amongst the highest results in the school, and therefore amongst the highest in the county of Leicestershire.

As well as a teacher of English, thanks to my business background, qualifications and interests, over the years I have been able to help many students studying Sociology, Business Studies and History, right through to undergraduate level.

As a naturally shy individual despite a confident-seeming exterior, I am especially keen on building confidence in my students, and I try hard to improve public speaking skills as these are so important not just for interviews and the like, but for a general feeling of well-being and inner-confidence. Schools seem unable to help quiet or shy students and this is an area in which I think I can say I excel.

I am nationally known and respected for my teaching materials and run a very popular English GCSE and A-level revision website. My teaching materials and guides are used throughout the country and even overseas. As the BBC's "Bitesize" English teacher, I have even been on the Greg James's Radio 1 show, answering students' revision 'Tweets' and discussing with him his favourite book, To Kill a Mockingbird!

I feel its important to motivate students and help increase their confidence. I specialise in preparing for the 11+ Medway and Kent test and am able to provide tutoring for Maths, Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning for the 11+ . I have a a high success rate and am happy to provide references on request. My approach is relaxed (but with a focus on exam technique) and I believe that learning should be an enjoyable experience.

Teaching Experience:

Teaching children from ages 6 to GCSE level Maths Age 16. I also specialise in preparing children for the 11+ test in kent and medway, teaching subject verbal reasoning and non verbal reasoning.

I graduated in 2006 from Queen Mary University of London after achieving a 2:1 in English and History. It took me a couple of years before I found my passion for teaching, a passion that was made even more acute, by having worked in more conventional jobs, which I didn't enjoy after leaving university. I have a passion for horses and horse riding and have a young horse, I love writing, reading, cooking and walking my dogs as well as teaching. I love living in the country and taking part in all aspects of country life.

Teaching Experience:

I began my career teaching in Andover as a full time primary school teacher. I started off in Year 5 and progressed into Year 3. I have tutored a variety of different children:
Child 1: 2010- present, 16 year old (Autistic), GCSE Geography, English Literature, Science, Maths and Environmental Science. B-Tec in Countryside management.

I have been a freelance educational journalist for three years now writing for `Primary teacher Update` magazine which is a very reflective exercise and I thoroughly enjoy it.
In September 2012 I moved to a school in Ringwood and was the Year 3 Year Leader covering a maternity position.
(September 2013) As I`ve moved into my fifth year as a qualified teacher, I have now settled into a different school in Ringwood and am back in Year 5 enjoying supporting a wide variety of different abilities of children.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very individualised style and approach to tutoring. I believe that each child is completely unique and that if you find the right key, whether its jumping on a trampoline whilst reciting their times tables or making a colourful mind map to understand how the bodies immune system works, you can unlock their understanding. I enjoy tutoring because you see children really blossom and the progress they make with one on one support is truely astounding and lovely to be a part of. Ben is a technically and artistically accomplished in portraiture photography and been quoted by professors at a university as a master in the studio. He love's to make the photos encapsulate you and who you want to be. Ben strives to capture the details and emotions that would go together to make your time with me an enjoyable experience.
Ben is a social person and loves to get to know the people he works for, so he can really reflect their character and what they want, so to produce the highest quality work for and give them exactly what they are after. Ben aims to spend time chatting with you in advance so that your time with me is so much more productive.
Ben grew up in West Africa where his parents worked amongst the poor coordinating small-scale development projects. This had a massive impact on his life and photographic practice affecting how he relates to the world around him. In his photographic work, he has taken a special interest in reflecting stories and voices through his images. For example, he travelled in Uganda and Thailand and used photography to be the 'voice' of the people he photographed.
Although Ben's formative years were spent in Africa he was educated in Guildford, Surrey at George Abbot School that specialised in the expressive arts. During these years, his creative flare became more apparent when he took A-levels in Fine Art, Sculpture, and Photography. He progressed onto doing a Foundation Degree in Action Photography at Truro College where he specialised in Sport, the Natural world and Social Documentary and began to prepare for a more commercial direction. Ben still maintained his roots in expressive art during the foundation degree but also developed his technical skills thoroughly. Ben had the opportunity to be the photographer for 24/7 magazines in July 2008 at the Newquay Ripcurl Surfing Festival.
In 2009, he progressed on to Plymouth University to study for his BA Hons in Photography where he achieved a 2.1 studying under Stephen Vaughan and Dr. Simon Standing. During this course, he spent time looking intricately into the how we view our bodies and others around us. He concluded the year specializing in fine art nudes and portraiture, with a project called 'The Paradox of Perfect Beauty'. This study challenges the ideologies of beauty in history, sculpture, and figurative representation and critically analyzes the standardized figures and body shape used in art as well as in modern day commercial advertising, fashion and other types of portraiture. In the final exhibition, Ben aimed to present a personal discovery of body image and consequent self-affirmation. Ben was fortunate to be able to exhibit some of his work at the D & A D-New Blood Exhibition in London in June 2010.
Many photographers say they are good but even the perfect image that ben has he can still see my own flaws in you get the highest quality with me and won't be disappointed. In this digital age, many people can snap you but ben can give you an artistic flair, which is also of superior quality. He is sure that you will want to share the photographs he produces. I also work in a apple shop in Guildford so can teach about apple products and how to use them both in conjunction with software like photoshop or one there own.

I'm currently a student studying Economics at the University of Birmingham, averaging a first level qualification. I am interested in sharing some of the things I have learnt over my years in education with others, which is why I'm keen to tutor. I have previously mentored students throughout secondary school and really enjoyed it. Apart from university my other interests include; playing sport with the University Korfball team, coaching the Economics netball team, wining and dining as I'm a huge fan of food and I also play in the University Symphony orchestra. Teaching Experience:

Have taught for a brief time in Primary Schools, however the main part of my teaching is now peer to peer making it less intimidating for a student to ask questions they may have on a topic.

In my secondary school I was a mentor for 11-17 year olds providing help and support for any school related needs they may have had.

I find nothing more fulfilling that helping a fellow student and watching them learn and understand the problem they once had trouble with.

Tutoring Approach:

Students will be able to voice questions they may have, and not feel embarrassed as I am a student myself. There will be homework involved, and I will target the area of the subject that the student is struggling with.

The fact I am still a student is important as I can bridge the gap between teacher and student. The most common problem students come to me with is that they feel embarrassed to ask questions to their school teacher.

I do not try and recite words from a textbook, but ask the students to learn from my experiences and ultimately do the best they can do.

Personal Description:
I graduated with an upper 2:1 in English Literature and Journalism in 2012. As well as receiving a scholarship and bursary to attend this university, I was awarded the subject prize for journalism upon graduation. Hopefully, this goes some way to demonstrating both my strong work ethic and my aptitude for academia.

In the years since then, I have travelled extensively. As well as living in London, Brighton and Melbourne, I have explored South-East Asia and even taught English to local children in Laos. Now I've found my feet back in my hometown, and am currently working as a freelance copywriter creating all manner of marketing materials written to various client briefs. This means my schedule is fully flexible. I would love to spend a few spare hours a week tutoring, as I think it would be both a meaningful and a rewarding way to supplement my income.

Teaching Experience:

Aside from a stint volunteering in Laos teaching English to local schoolchildren, I have experience proofreading essays at various academic levels. This stems from my five-year career as a freelance copywriter. I am confident with my writing ability, as well as in my grasp of grammar and language. I feel well-placed to aid those who are perhaps not so confident in these areas.

I am also very widely read. An appreciation for context is fundamental for pushing literature grades up to those higher tiers.

Aside from this, I have experience on a one-to-one basis teaching piano lessons. I would certainly apply similar interpersonal skills to tutoring in English. I am patient, friendly, and above all else passionate about English literature and language.

Tutoring Approach:

Certainly, when preparing for English exams, a thorough understanding of the assessment objectives (AOs) is imperative to earn a higher grade. For an English literature exam, this would mean we would analyse a range of key literary critical concepts. We would also get to grips with how to structure an argument, as well as looking at writing techniques, context, and expression. As for English language, we would have a thorough look at various linguistic methods and terminology, including clause structure, tenses, and other key parts of speech.

I also encourage homework! The pressures of writing an essay under exam conditions are tremendous, particularly if a pupil is not prepared. In preparation for an English Literature A Level exam, I would recommend one essay a week under timed conditions, which I would then grade. It's challenging, but it is worth the work.

As for my teaching style, I find enthusiasm is often highly contagious. Whether it's a seemingly dry bit of Shakespeare or an enigmatic Romanticist poem, we'll work together to find ways to demystify the language and even make it enjoyable.

Apostrophe angst? Sentence structure struggles? I can also aid you with grammar, punctuation, writing techniques and other essential writing or language skills.
