Personal Description:
I might be expensive but I am worth it as your child will see a marked improvement in their results and confidence levels. To assess whether I am the right tutor for you I offer the first lesson for free.

I also offer short intensive Maths courses for entrance to American Universities on some weekends. Each course is 2 days long and is specifically tailored for UK students. It is specifically designed to bridge the gap in knowledge, format and techniques between the GCSE Maths exam and the SAT exam. If you use UK Tutors to contact me about the courses I will deduct their fee from the course price.

I was awarded a First Class Honours degree from University College London in 1997 and went on to study a PhD in Quantum Mechanics. On successful completion of my PhD in 2001 I started work at Thales Research and Technology (TRT) where I led projects on Adaptive Learning Systems and Information Management. I initiated the first programme to span the three TRT laboratories in France, Netherlands and UK in the area of Cognitive Systems research. I then went on to set up and lead a large collaborative team between TRT and University of Surrey to study remote collaboration technologies. I joined General Dynamics United Kingdom Limited in 2005, primarily to ensure exploitation of DIF DTC technologies into the UK Ministry of Defence Equipment Programme. I received my Chartered Physicist status in 2004 and am now a director of an innovation company.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience ranges from teaching GCSE students all the way up to teaching PhD students to improve their thesis writing skills. One of my students improved from a D to an A at GCSE level after just six months of tuition with me, and commonly students improve by at least one grade. Apart from the usual syllabuses I am experienced at teaching students the Maths section of the SATs and ACTs in order to get scholarships to American Universities.

Tutoring Approach:

My tuition method involves making Maths and Physics fun so that children and young adults will remember their lessons and overcome the "I can't do science" syndrome. So that you can assess whether or not I am the right tutor for your child I offer the first lesson for free.

Testimonials
"Thank you for your help over the past few weeks with my remaining assignments, I now feel a lot more confident about writing essays and reports and I am on track for a 2:1 with the results I have received recently.

I think your teaching methods are very good, particularly as from past experience, other tutors tend to just write comments on your work on how to improve it, but this isn't enough if you want to really understand your work, which is particularly vital for a final year student (like me) who will be sitting exams in May.

However, by using a mixture of Skype and written feedback sessions, I have been able to not only achieve good grades but also build upon each assignment in preparation for the next.

As well as this, you have completely calmed my nerves about my work, particularly during the quality assignment that you helped me with back in January!

I would highly recommend you to anyone who may be in need of a tutor...

Thanks again!"
(Ms Liv, Dated 26/04/2014)

"He listens well and always put a positive spin on things. Before I met him I was very stressed with the amount of work, he was very reassuring which gave me a confidence boast."
(Tutee Ms M, 24/03/2013)

"he is not only a good teacher, but he was also a good friend" (Tutee: Mr. M, 23/03/2012)

"Actually, I'm writing to you to thank you first about the effort that you did with me in preparing for the exam for MIS. I got 60 in the exam. So, that's why I would like to continue work with you in preparing for other exam this term"
(Tutee Ms D, 18/02/2011)

Personal Description:
I am a mature professional, originally from Yorkshire. I hold a current enhanced CRB check and have spent most of my life working with children and young people. Most of my work has involved teaching pupils with special educational needs. At present I work part-time as a teacher in a hospital school with students 5-19yrs. I am highly qualified in teaching. In addition to a Bachelor of Education degree with honours, I hold an MA in the Psychology of Education, and diplomas in the teaching of reading (literacy and literature) and in Counselling. I also have a certificate in TEFL My work with children has not been restricted to teaching - I have worked as a Youth and Community worker, as a Counsellor and as a Child Protection Officer. My hobbies include drama, dance and choral singing.

Teaching Experience:

I trained as a teacher of infants but I have worked as a teacher of all ages and abilities. The majority of my teaching has involved pupils who experience a variety of special educational needs - social, emotional and behaviour difficulties, moderate learning difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, dyslexia, medical and mental health difficulties. I have also taught in secure accommodation. My teaching is effective - my work as a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator in a large primary school in South London received a very good Ofsted report because the pupils with special educational needs made good progress - better progress than pupils in the school who did not have special needs! I am also on the Upper Pay Scale for teachers who have proved to government that their teaching interventions make a difference to pupil attainment.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a great deal of experience as a teacher of individuals and small groups in school and many years experience of private tutoring. My success comes from teaching each person, adult or child as a unique individual. I am popular with my students because I endeavour to make learning fun whilst retaining high expectations of effort and success, being patient, firm but fair. My fee reflects my knowledge, skill and experience. I integrate my tutoring with the tutees school syllabus and approach, increasing motivation with encouragement, challenge and the introduction of new knowledge in carefully paced steps. I begin with a thorough assessment of a student's strengths and weaknesses at my base where I have assessment materials for all ages. My fee is payable for this session when clients can examine my CRB check, qualifications and we can discuss mutual availability (times) and location.

Personal Description:
I am a twenty-seven year-old graduate, currently studying for a PhD in History at Queen Mary University of London.

I am young, enthusiastic, and have excellent communication skills. I have lived in London for two years, and in my spare time I enjoy football, playing the guitar and reading about history.

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my academic career I have engaged in mentoring and tutoring schemes. During my A levels I tutored a number of pupils through their History GCSEs, and at university I was a volunteer mentor for first year students, helping them to structure their studies and get through exams during a particularly challenging time.

As part of my PhD programme, I teach three seminars with first-year undergraduates on a weekly basis on a course about the Anglo-American "special relationship" in the twentieth century.

I have worked as a private tutor for six years. I have lots of experience in tutoring students at GCSE and A Level, and have worked with students with a range of capabilities.

My long-term goal is a career as a lecturer or teacher. I have enjoyed the process immensely whenever I have engaged with students, and want to broaden my experience as much as possible.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that my young age, and the fact I took my A levels and GCSEs relatively recently, gives me a strong advantage in tutoring. All the difficulties and emotions students encounter when taking these exams are fresh in my memory, and I am confident that with encouragement, patience and a friendly understanding, I can make a huge difference to students' prospects. My strong academic record is testament to my ability to approach exams efficiently and with enthusiasm, and my experience in tutoring has developed my skills in approaching a range of student issues, from last-minute revision to long-term guidance.

Personal Description:
I am a divorcee with two teenagers and a rather loopy dog (all housetrained!) I discovered the joys of teaching as a parent helper at my children's Infant and Junior schools which inspired me to qualify as a Primary School teacher. Unfortunately I have developed arthritis in my knee which is why I am looking to continue my teaching in a non-school environment. My favourite academic subject is literacy because I love reading books by a wide range of authors, e.g. Austin and Dickens to J K Rowling and Jacqueline Wilson. I love creative crafts e.g. card making, cross stitch, scrapbooking etc. Music plays a big part in my life, including listening and making. I'm a bit of a diva on the recorder and can play the full range from Sopranino to Bass. I love to sing.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified Primary School Teacher who has worked in a number of schools in Essex in permanent, temporary and supply posts across both KS1 and KS2 over the last four years. My PGCE was obtained through School Centred Initial Teacher Training (which comprised spending a lot of time working directly with children). Prior to that I was a parent helper and governor for 5 years at my children's Infant and Junior Schools. I was Music Leader at my last school for two years and ran the choir. I enjoy teaching all primary subjects. I am keen to also support adults in improving their maths and literacy skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I am familiar with the Primary Curriculum. Hands on learning is great fun and I enjoy practical activities. I love working on a one to one basis as you can build a rapport and really personalise the learning. I enjoy topic work as it gives the learning a context and shows that subjects do not stand alone without any connections/overlap with each other (just like life). I am keen to support both adults and children in mastering literacy and numeracy skills because they are fundamental life skills. Personalised learning means that any gaps can be filled so that an individual has a firm foundation on which to build.

Personal Description:
I was born in Rome (Italy) and moved to London when I was 7 years old. I was fortunate enough to have experienced what I would refer to as the highs and lows of learning. Having been exposed to a completely new cultural and educational environment at such a young age really helped me to assess the differences and similarities of teaching styles in both Italy and England. Despite the challenges I faced when learning English, I consider myself extremely lucky as I am now able to look back upon that experience with fondness. The English educational system has allowed me develop skills I was not aware I had, I really learnt the value of education throughout the course of my academic life.

I graduated from Coventry University with a 2:1 in Sociology Ba(Hons). My first graduate job was as a Sales Administrator in an e-commerce company, 3 months later I was promoted to Customer Support Manager, and a year after that I became a Business Development Manager and Customer Support Manager (Operations Manager to avoid the lengthy description).

Having moved out of my family home at 18 I have had a broad range of work experience. Ranging from bar tending and waitressing, to supervisory and translation roles in market research companies. In the summer of 2013 I was selected for the Fast Stream Summer Diversity Internship Programme which enabled me to work within the Civil Service Commission in the Cabinet Office and provided me with invaluable experience. I am fortunate to be bilingual, this has always helped with finding work.

I undertook a foreign language teaching programme during my final year at Coventry University, which would have enabled me to teach Italian professionally. Unfortunately, due to the pressure of my 10,000 word dissertation, upcoming exams, and pressing assignment deadlines, I was unable to complete the training. However, this has always been somewhat of a regret of mine as I thoroughly enjoyed the training I was given and would have loved to have had the time to teach.

Teaching Experience:

I have always tutored in Italian throughout the years, my clients have ranged from primary school children, to secondary school students, to adults. As mentioned above, I have a broad understanding of teaching thanks to the programme I attended at Coventry University. I thoroughly enjoyed my Sociology course at university and have continued to read up on the subject as well as watching Sociology related documentaries following the end of my studies. I would love to share my knowledge with students, whether they are struggling to grasp concepts, or just need extra support.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe learning should be enjoyable. It doesn't need to be complicated, breaking theories and concepts down in their simplest forms and relating them to real life events which resonate with the student is often an incredibly successful technique.

Personal Description:
Learn Spanish with a multilingual native English speaker who can guide you through the challenges and pitfalls of becoming fluent in a foreign language. I am a modern languages graduate, qualified translator and freelance tutor of Spanish (Nottingham area - early mornings, evenings and weekends).

Teaching Experience:

I have experience of teaching students of a range of abilities and have taught those who want to learn languages for their own enjoyment in their spare time, as well as those who want to learn for business or academic purposes. I have helped students to prepare for qualifications, both during my time as an English teacher in Spain and as a one-on-one tutor of Spanish in the UK.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor my approach to each student and encourage them to contribute ideas for future classes, according to their specific needs and areas of interest. I like classes to be an informal open forum for the discussion of the finer points of grammar, usage and the challenges of translating between languages.

Personal Description:
Hi,

My name is Kerry and I have a Masters in Translation and Interpreting plus a BA in Modern European Languages (French, Spanish, Italian)

Can show certificates as proof as and when required.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience teaching English as a foreign language (in an Italian High School)
I also have experience teaching GCSE French/Spanish in an English High School.

Tutoring Approach:

I like learning to be fun, otherwise it becomes a chore.
I find that it helps when learning a language if you can relate to what you're learning. For this reason, expect a lot of current affairs, current music, current films etc. to be included in the tutoring.
Obviously, curriculum specific work can be carried out too.

Personal Description:
I am a First Class Psychology and Sociology graduate from the University of Cambridge (2012-2015).

Teaching Experience:

I undertook a 6 month teaching placement in Port Elizabeth, South Africa at a mixed secondary school in 2012. Here I taught students from ages 12-19 in both English Language & Literature, and Life Orientation.

Since leaving university I have run numerous study technique sessions with students of all ages. In addition, I regularly tutor various students at both A-Level and GCSE in a variety of essay based subjects.

I have also run workshops and seminars at secondary schools, colleges, and universities to teach students how to study more effectively through mastering their mindset.

Tutoring Approach:

I specialise in study skills and techniques after undergoing a dramatic transformation in how I approached studying myself during my third year of university. After two years of being a low-mid 2i student at Cambridge I changed my entire approach to study through developing a number of study tips/tricks/hacks rooted in the science of Positive Psychology.

Students who often need tutoring are not those lacking in intelligence. For many not reaching their true potential it is their mindset and approach to learning that lets them down.

This is where I come in- I share my story of how in my third year I actually started working fewer hours, stopped getting stressed out, and completely changed my relationship with learning and education.

My tutoring is just as much about coaching- the last thing a student wants is another educator telling them what to do. I simply provide them with the tools to make dramatic changes and challenge them to apply these techniques themselves.

Areas I specialise in include:
- Fostering Positive Study Habits
- Eliminating Distractions & Increasing Focus
- Stress Reduction & Redirection
- Mastering Time Management
- Conscious Note Taking
- Perfecting Exam Technique

Personal Description:
I graduated from the University of Kent in 2014, with a bachelors degree in Biochemistry. Since graduation, I have continuously worked in education; as a teaching assistant, a science technician and as a personal tutor. I have a love for science, learning and a keen interest in education. These are things that make me a good personal tutor.

Teaching Experience:

In both of my positions within secondary schools I worked alongside teachers, within the science department to help deliver information to students. Since January I have been working as a tutor in Maths and Science at nationals 3-5 level. In my position as a teaching assistant a large part of my role was to work with individuals with learning difficulties, I had to make sure that they were able to access what was being taught to them. I have further developed my ability to work with individuals with learning difficulties, as well as those with high attainment. I have one to one tutoring experience from the ages of 8-18 years, with my specialty being in Science and Maths.

Tutoring Approach:

I think it is important to listen to the student and find the areas in which they most need help. There is normally more than one method that can be used to both learn and understand, finding the way that works best for an individual is something that I aim to achieve. It is also my aim to tailor tutoring sessions to the needs of the individual. There can be multiple ways to teach the same piece of information, finding the one that best suites an individual allows the best to be achieved within a session.

Personal Description:
Hello. My name is Matthew, I am currently studying for my masters in architecture at the Architectural Association. I am a graduate of Princeton University and St. Paul's School, London. I recieved top marks at Further Maths A-Level and studied Maths at a higher level while at Princeton.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching my peers while at Princeton University and have continued tutoring since moving back to the UK. Over the past three years I have taught students at various levels and abilities; from higher level GCSE to Further Mahs A-Level, as well as US university entrance exams (SAT and ACT).

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring approach is to teach a full understanding of the material, so that the student is able to engage with material in way that means they can tackle any problem. Often in higher level exams questions will have many topics layered on top of one another, so a deep level of understanding and an ability to apply mathematical methods is required. In my experience the best way to deal with this is for the student to not only know the methods, but also understand why they are being applied. I have also found that this understanding is difficult to grasp from a conventional classroom setting.

After this process I then turn to focus on exam technique specific to the exam board the student is testing through.

Personal Description:
I have got Engineering degree qualification, which makes me the most appropriate tutor for mathematics subject. I have studied as well trained the simplest mathematics as well as complex one. So, I know the subject's concepts, ideas and problems inside out. I can discuss and introduce the rigor of real-life applications. I can make learning relevant to students' interests, thus create more students who actually care about what they are learning

Teaching Experience:

I have got a 10 years of teaching Experience. I have been teaching maths since at all Level since 10 years. Currently i have been teaching A-Level, year 4, KS-2 maths in UK.
I am very much aware of National Curriculum of UK and know about the key stages and the assessments, the student would go through after completing each key stage. I always prefer to discuss child's progress with his/her parents by the end of each assessment. That would assist me to meet the expectations of parents.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to build strong, personal relationships with students, because I believe personal relationship is foundation to student success. The more associated the student feels, the more teacher earns respect and consideration, the key ingredients for students to learn well. I teach to the student's strength that helps me to minimize the student weaknesses. I always listen and communicate early and often with parents, that helps me to map a better plan for success.
I always believe that, the better lesson planning by tutor leads to student success. I always plan my every session keeping these 6 points in my mind.
1. Outline learning objectives
2. Develop the introduction
3. Plan the specific learning activities (the main body of the lesson)
4. Plan to check for understanding
5. Develop a conclusion
6. Create a practical timeline

Personal Description:
Bonjour!
I am a fully qualified, native French teacher (PGCE from the University of Portsmouth, Summer 1994).
I am married with two older children, themselves going through examinations at the moment. I also have four cats.

Teaching Experience:

I came to the UK in 1993, started teaching in a school in Sept. 1994 and teaching privately in 1998.
I no longer teach at a school but instead, teach privately to individuals or small groups.

I have been an examiner for AQA since 1998 so I am very aware of the skills and knowledge required by examination boards. I am currently a team leader for French GCSE and an examiner for A2.

I have taught a wide range of students over the years: KS3, GCSE and A Level, adult learners, younger children and adults in a business environment.

Tutoring Approach:

What I enjoy the most is to see people make big improvements and become confident with their French, from the moment they start to understand how the language works.
I am a good communicator and feel that I can understand people`s difficulties quickly so we can work on those aspects and start to make progress, once the foundations have been put (back) in place.

I am a dedicated, hard working and well organised person who enjoys seeing her pupils do well and (re)gain confidence.
I plan all my lessons very methodically and provide all papers / worksheets to my pupils. I also set homework and, more importantly, mark it! Very often, pupils will email me to ask me to check a piece of writing / homework that they are working on, and I am happy to help them with this too.
