| Personal Description: I've recently graduated with an English degree from Oxford, and am exploring different avenues of work so as to find an area I will enjoy. I love enthusing people about ideas and helping them discover fresh approaches to their studies and other interests. Outside of work, my current aim is to set up a national poetry-reading competition for post-primary school students. This project has the backing of Andrew Motion. |
Teaching Experience: I have just completed a full-time, intensive CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) course. The course involved many hours of teaching, and learning how to provide dynamic and rewarding classes to students. Though new to tutoring, I've always tried to inspire younger students. I've conducted mock-interviews for Oxford, and mentored A-level students online to prepare them for university. |
Tutoring Approach: I love to make lessons that reward the student. This involves working with the student to develop their strengths and channel their motivations into their studies. As a result, my lessons become personalised and interactive. During my CELTA course, I was often praised for my lively and engaging style. Indeed, I am very enthusiastic and usually this rubs off on my students. |

| Personal Description: I am a qualified teacher with a primary (7-11) PGCE specialising in modern foreign languages. I also have a BA in French and Italian and spent a year in France and Italy. I have an A level in Welsh and a TEFL qualification. During my time in Europe I found that children had earlier exposure to foreign languages which was the reason for their superior language skills. I want to help give children in this country the same opportunity. |
Teaching Experience: I am currently working as a supply teacher in the South Wales area teaching National Curriculum subjects as well as French. I teach French in two schools for a morning a week and I love it. I also set up and ran after school French clubs in previous schools with great success. |
Tutoring Approach: I teach all National Curriculum subjects however my main passion is teaching languages. I feel my teaching aim is to encourage children to develop a positive attitude towards modern foreign languages in readiness for when it is introduced into the National Curriculum. I believe that having a knowledge of a foreign language can help a child in so many ways, it opens doors to other cultures and also develops a firmer understanding of their mother tongue. I strongly believe that language learning should be fun, my teaching methods concentrate more on communication and I encourage this through games, songs and role-play. I believe that I am a fun and approachable teacher and I like children to feel that they can come to me with problems and for them to feel that no question is a stupid question. If you want your child to have a head start in either French, Welsh, Italian or EFL I can help. |

| Personal Description: Although trained in English, I am qualified to teach a variety of subjects. I relish helping children to enjoy literature but at the same time I want to support them to get involved in activities such as art, history, music, and the environment. As a teacher I want to encourage children to cherish their heritage and culture, and to grow in awareness and knowledge about their environment. I would help them grow up to respect themselves and their education, their past and their future. I am very passionate about encouraging students to respect their environment and their cultural backgrounds whilst developing an appreciation for the beauty of their surroundings. I feel that teaching is not just about giving pupils understanding of a particular subject; it is about giving them the confidence to help themselves and their community. |
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching as a supply teacher in Plymouth; working across the board, teaching pupils of all ages (3-19). Supply teaching has helped me develop a flexible approach to teaching, as I can be teaching Maths one day and History the next. I have taught classes of all abilities but find the most rewarding work is with low ability classes. During my placement in John Summers High School, I worked closely with the SENCO. I spent much of my time helping out in the SEN department. I occasionally took lessons, and often would work with individual pupils, offering them support with their class work. The work focused on developing pupils' core skills, basic numeracy and literacy. I enjoy helping pupils to understand new concepts. I find the challenge of differentiating work beneficial, not just for pupils, but for myself. During a primary placement I worked with the SEN group, a class which consisted of ten pupils. The priority was to focus on the pupils' lack of confidence in literacy and numeracy. One particular lesson we took the SEN group down to the reception class, the pupils were paired up and read together. This helped to develop all of the pupils' confidence in reading and communicating with one another. The shared experience made the effort of reading good fun for both classes. I also gave one-to-one support in numeracy lessons. As a dyslexic teacher, I believe I have an insight to many difficulties that pupils face, and have many different strategies to work around, and with these difficulties. I feel that passing on this insight, and helping pupils with specific learning needs to develop confidence in their learning capacity, is one of my strengths as a new teacher. Teachers observing my lessons have commented on my skill at nurturing shy pupils, ordinarily lacking in confidence. |
Tutoring Approach: I'm a highly flexible teacher and enjoy meeting the needs of children in different contexts. I approach my teaching from the pupils perspective. I aim to develop the pupils confidence in their abilities, and build upon their prior knowledge. |

| Personal Description: I am a native french student who is at the moment studying for a posgraduate degree at the university of Northampton. |
Teaching Experience: I have 2 years experience in teaching as I have taught 3 GCSE's student in France. I taught sujects as French, maths, english. |
Tutoring Approach: I think teaching is a matter of patience and methods. You have to identify the level and the precise diffilculties that the student is facing in order to adapt the method (also according to the student's character and envy to learn). And as an experienced teacher and a french native, I will know how to teach my student and make him/her achieve major steps in french. |

| Personal Description: I am a PhD student at the university of Leeds (School of Music). I did my Masters degree in Music Performance (Singing) also at the Leeds uni, and my Bachelor in Musicology at the university of Athens (Greece). I am currently a piano teacher at the Music School of Peiraias (Athens) with a permanent position, and I am studying in UK with a sabbatical from the Greek Ministry of Education. |
Teaching Experience: I have many years of experience in various conservatoires in Greece (I am teaching since 1996). Right after my graduation (2000) I started working in Music Schools, teaching piano, music theory, choral singing and solo singing. At the same time, I continued to teach piano, choral singing and chamber music in conservatoires, and give private tuition as a piano and singing teacher, as well as a piano accompanist. In 2002 I took a permanent position as a piano teacher in Music Schools after the relevant Greek Ministry of Education's teaching competition. |
Tutoring Approach: I would say that my approach differs from student to student, because I'm always trying to discover his/her personal potentials and, most importantly, make him/her capable of listening to himself/herself and correcting his /her own mistakes. I believe that the key to a successful music teaching is to find the balance between detailed studying and the ability to enjoy your playing/singing. |

| Personal Description: Hi! My name's Ed, I just graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Classics, and I am now on a two year Professional Acting Course at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. |
Teaching Experience: Since graduating from university I've been involved in all sorts of areas, tutoring Oxbridge applicants as well as students at both school and university level. The work I've done with my tutees has varied widely; I've assisted some specifically in translating school or university texts; I've introduced others, who wished to explore beyond their prescribed syllabus, to new areas of literature; and with others I've worked on developing ways in which one might go about analyzing literature or indeed approach translating a given text. I've also taken up a part-time teaching post at Clifton College, which primarily involves coaching their prospective candidates for Oxford and Cambridge. During my time at university, too, I participated in a number of theatre tours that actively involved taking workshops and running classes in the schools and the universities at which we performed, venues ranging from M.I.T. in Boston, to state universities in Kentucky, Maryland and Virginia, right through to schools in Switzerland, France and Belgium. |
Tutoring Approach: I think it's impossible to pin down a sure-fire method of effective tutoring for any given person. People are different, and different methods work with different people. That said, I am a firm believer that you cannot simply speak at someone. Learning has to be an active process, and I think there has to be involvement from both sides for things to sink in. In this light, I do try to make things enjoyable and also to limit shortcuts; I'm of the view that it's far better to invest the time in getting firmly to grips with a subject, be it an instance of grammar or literary concept. In the long run that is a shortcut in itself. |

Tutoring Approach: Lessons can involve working through ABRSM or Guildhall grades, playing music of the students choice, understanding rhythm, theory and harmony - both jazz and classical, composition and extended saxophone techniques. I believe it is important to teach students the music they want to learn, so each lesson is specifically designed for the students needs. |

| Personal Description: I really enjoy teaching Spanish and transmitting my culture. I am competent and fluent in English, which is a real asset when teaching a foreign language. |
Teaching Experience: I have one year of teaching experience a Mark Twain School, which is a bilingual primary school. Besides, I have given private lessons of English to children, teenagers and adults. |
Tutoring Approach: I like to consider the student needs and I base my lessons on that. I would use a more communicative approach if the student was to travel to a Spanish-speaking country really soon, and I would focus also on grammar rules and on writing if the student was to sit an international exam. |

| Personal Description: I am currently a student at Bath university studying Sports and Coach education. I hope to go into teaching after university although i am currently unsure whether i want to do this at a primary or secondary school level. I am hoping a job in tutoring will not only give me an insight into what age group i would work permanently with but also give me valuable learning experience that will help me in the future. I attained good grade levels all throughout my time at school and am currently on track for a high 2:1 for my degree. I am a confident, lively, energetic and likable character. Due to my many hobbies and jobs, I have a diverse social network which has benefited me by enabling me to get along with anybody irrespective of background, age gender or culture. |
Teaching Experience: I have had many years experience working as a swimming teacher and have excellent references from all the swim schools i worked with. Through working as a swimming teacher i have been able to develop my delivery and listening skills as it is crucial that you have all the pupils attention at all times to minimise potential risks. I have had one months experience working as a teaching assistant in a year 1 and year 6 class at a primary school which i found very rewarding. During this time i did one-to-one reading sessions with year one pupils and worked with the top maths table of both year 1 and 6 which involved over seeing their work and helping any pupils who were finding a task challenging. In addition, I have also set up an after school multi-sports club for a local primary school which I and a friend run on a Friday afternoon. This involves planning lessons suitable for the 15 pupils aged between 8-11 that attend this club, using suitable styles to maintain control and interest and above all make it fun so that they want to come again. Finally I have served as a tutor to my younger sisters (currently aged 7 and 10) and to neighbours children (all between the ages of 5- 12). This has mostly involved assisting them with their Math, English and science homework. |
Tutoring Approach: I believe the key to teaching is to try and make the task as enjoyable as possible, so I primarily adopt a friendly but firm approach. Any child will work harder at something that they find interesting. I like to create a stress free environment where the student feels able to ask any questions and voice their uncertainties. I assess the pupils strengths and weaknesses and am a strong supporter in using teaching aids such as analogies, mind mapping, etc to turn these weaknesses into strengths. I endeavour to get the best out of any student and help them achieve their full potential and above all help them to develop the confidence to help themselves. My years in sports teaching has meant I've adopted a teaching style requires input from both student and teacher. I will not simply 'spoon feed' a student the answers as i believe a guided approach is much more beneficial. It provides the pupil with confidence and skills that can be applied to many other aspects and expeirences in life. |
