I am the Head of Economics at LVS Ascot and I have spent the last 10 years working successfully in Schools such as St Lukes Science and Sports College in Exeter, The Ridings High School in South Gloucestershire and St Josephs Catholic School in Slough. Personal Description:
I have 20 years of experience in publishing as a writer and editor and am passionate about nurturing English language skills and a love of English literature. I graduated from the University of Stirling with an honours degree in English Literature and have also taught English as a foreign language. My experience in publishing has trained me to write concisely and economically while retaining an imaginative grasp on a piece of work, a skill invaluable in writing essays and examination answers; and especially useful in assisting students with the new written assessments that, in Higher English, from 2016, comprise 30 per cent of the final examination mark.

I can empathise with students who are tussling with English, relish improving a person's understanding and enjoyment of the subject and take satisfaction from helping to develop their abilities not only in the practical sense of improving their powers of analysis and understanding of texts but in helping them think imaginatively and creatively. As a personal tutor, I have a proven record of upgrading students' performances, especially at Higher level, and have, in several instances, improved so dramatically pupils who were on course to fail Higher English that they went on to achieve an 'A' grade in their Higher examination.

Teaching Experience:

I have five years' tutoring experience. In 2012, 65 per cent of my tutees for Higher English achieved an 'A' grade, with several Band 1s among them. In the 2013 Higher English examination, 75 per cent of my tutees obtained either an A or a B, with slightly more than half of those obtaining an A and several obtaining a distinction in doing so. In 2012 and 2013, all of my tutees at Standard Grade achieved either a band 1 or a Band 2. Similarly, in 2014, all National 5 students achieved an A or a B. At Higher, in 2014, 85 per cent of tutees achieved an A or a B, with the remainder, several of whom had been struggling severely, delighted to have achieved a pass. In 2015, 85 per cent of my tutees achieved an A in their Higher, Sixth Year Studies and National 5 examinations. The other 15 per cent achieved a B.

With my help, tutees have obtained the vital English qualification that was essential to them obtaining a place at such universities as: Cambridge, Oxford, Aberdeen, Dundee, St Andrews, Heriot-Watt, Edinburgh, Stirling, Strathclyde, Glasgow and the Glasgow College of Art.

I also have experience teaching English as a Foreign Language, in Egypt, both in private schools and in tutoring young people on an individual basis.

In publishing, I was frequently chosen to tutor new entrants to the profession because of my precise use of language and empathetic nature on a one-to-one level.

I studied English Literature to honours level at the University of Stirling and aim to pass on my love of the subject to students through establishing a rapport with them and recommending to them the type of literature that would complement their learning and enable them to derive pleasure from studying English.

Tutoring Approach:

On first meeting, I will discuss with the student how they wish to improve and which aspects of their English studies they feel require greatest attention. In June 2015 I finished my BSc in Biology from Imperial College London with First Class Honours. . My A level grades were A* A A in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics (respectively). I am committed and enthusiastic in everything I do and I love new experiences and challenges.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor for over 4 years and have had over a dozen students, ranging from 4-28 years of age.

In addition to my professional tutoring:
-In the lab I teach new practical techniques and knowledge to students and my peers
-I am training to become an assistant instructor in Women's Self Defence with the charity that I do martial arts with
-I have a younger sister whom I have helped with academia since she was a child, improving her knowledge and confidence.

Tutoring Approach:

Tutoring is something that I thoroughly enjoy. It makes me feel like I have made a difference when I am able to help someone better understand and apply something that, up until then, teachers or peers have failed to do.
A large part of my role as a tutor, particularly with younger students, is to improve their self-confidence, I give them additional knowledge, confidence to apply and convey it and confidence to ask questions.

I believe that the path to exam success involves three things:
-Thorough knowledge of subject material
-Exam technique (what to write/say to get the marks)
-On-the-day performance

I feel that my job as a tutor is to assess these points in my students and to help them with whatever stage they require to boost their performance.

YOUNGER STUDENTS: when tutoring children I find that it is important to continuously change the activity or topic every 5-10 minutes so that the student is engaged and gets the most out of the lessons. I have learned many of the techniques for tutoring children during my training and experience as a Young Scout Leader.
In my lessons I play games based on the material and use tools such as white boards, the feedback I receive is that my students really enjoy and look forward to our lessons.

SECONDARY LEVEL & OLDER STUDENTS: I feel it is important for my students to understand how the topic they are learning fits into the wider picture. Often I find that the reason my students struggled with some subject areas is that they were not taught the broader concepts or knowledge was assumed, this is particularly common with Chemistry. I aim to fill this gap so that students learn and understand the syllabus learning points as opposed to just memorizing them.
With Maths I go through many practice questions with my students. I set a question and we will work on it together or independently, then I will give the answer and show my working. My students find it very helpful that I work alongside them and provide them with a full solution including method, as opposed to just an answer.

I am very passionate about travelling and find that my love for languages enables me to get the most out of my trips. I see languages as a key to unlocking different cultures and experiences that I may have may otherwise have missed out on.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught students aged between 12 and 80 from over 50 countries around the world. I have taught many different levels of German from ABC courses for students who could not read or write, up to advanced business courses.

As part of one of my roles I was involved with the German Immigration Ministry, which included providing courses and exams to people who wanted to live in Germany.

I can prepare students to take Test DaF,DSH and Zertifikat Deutsch exams.

I studied Economics, Mathematics and Modern History for A-Level, and English Literature at AS-Level, achieving A-grades in all of them.

I worked for nearly two years at the FSA, working on financial regulation and Economic Risk and then worked as an Economic Advisor to an MP where I focussed on Economics. I stood for Parliament last year.

I have continued tutoring due to my love of teaching and I believe that it benefits both me, and the student.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 200 hours of experience in preparing students for University- helping students with their personal statements and interview technique. I have also worked for Oxbridge Applications and have been trained extensively in mock interviews, preparing for the TSA test and how to improve self confidence, interview skills and writing skills.

Tutoring Approach:

The most important thing when tutoring a student is to be patient and kind as no student benefits from an environment in which they are made to feel stupid or slow. In fact, the problem is often the way students are taught and so I try to make lessons as interactive as possible to ensure that the student really understands what I teach them.

I believe that it is important to tailor the Tuition classes to the needs of the individual student, in order to help students realise their full potential. Students learn in different ways and so it is important to recognise that the method that works for one student, might not work for another.

I like to sit-down with students to establish what they are hoping to achieve, and where their strengths and weaknesses lie in the subject. That way I can ensure that the lessons are as helpful as possible for the student as I try to help the student achieve their goals.

For Long-Term students, I have found that it works best to track the lesson plans according to what has been taught in school during the week. This allows me to help students to to ensure that any misunderstandings are dealt with quickly so that they can build on this knowledge in the next week's lessons at school.

For students close to Exams, I focus more on the concepts that are fundamental to the subject to boost the chance of gaining high marks in the exam. I also focus on teaching exam technique.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified in September 2013 and have been teaching ever since then. I have got 7 hours class teaching experience but the rest and the majority of my experience lies with teaching adults in a 1:1 setting.

Tutoring Approach:

I tend to take a fairly laid back approach to teaching (depending on the student's requirements). I take a very pro-active approach and try and make the lessons as fun as possible, thus the student gains more from them and is more likely to remember what they have learnt. I encourage students to use what they have learnt outside of lessons, thus increasing their practice time and therefore improving their english immensely. I can set homework if I feel it is necessary but the responsibility to complete that work lies within the student. I motivate my students to go above and beyond the standard requirements. If the student is committed then this is always reciprocated.

Personal Description:
I am a photographer and Multi media producer. I currently finished my MA degree of photojournalism and documentary photography at London College of Communications. I have a BA degree at Art History. I studied long years photography; I have a full knowledge of dark room , medium format cameras, large format cameras, DSLR'S and digital imaging and post production. I also have a good knowledge of editing programs like Photoshop, FCP, aperture, Light room.

Teaching Experience:

I worked as a guide. I am currently giving Turkish and photography lessons. I am available for practical photography workshops.

I worked in Ottoman Bank Museum where I attend and give a talk about history and art. I've also worked as a guide in Istanbul.

I grew up in London and studied Theology through correspondence at the South African Theological Seminary. During my studies I also had the opportunity to go to South Africa on a 6 month charity placement, where. I worked in the townships teaching children aged 3-11. I also taught to secondary school age children.

I also obtained my teaching certificate (CertTESOL) at the London Lab in Holborn, which included teaching live classes to adult students.

Personal Description:
I am a young, dynamic Cambridge CELTA qualified teacher with a real passion for the English language. My greatest pleasure is to meet students from all over the world!

I love the challenge that each new student brings, knowing that each person has individual learning requirements and needs a unique approach to facilitating their language acquisition.

My hobbies include languages (I studied French at university), travel, literature, and education.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching English for over 4 years. I started by teaching my friends whilst living in France, helping them with their university assignments and preparation for TOEFL exams and presentations. In 2014 I became professionally qualified when I achieved Cambridge CELTA certification.

Since then I have taught Brazilian students from impoverished areas of Rio de Janeiro online, working for the Sequoia Foundation. I currently work for a French company, teaching English online to French-speakers (from France, as well as from many African and Caribbean countries). Working for a Hong Kong based company, I also teach a student from Spain. Further to this I also work for a Japanese company, offering 1-1 Skype lessons.

In summer of 2015 I taught monolingual classes of Italian speakers at Birmingham City University (working for a company called International Quest). My most recent teaching experience also involves an Italian student: I provide 1-1 business English lessons (face-to-face) at Deutsche Bank in Birmingham.

My students have been very varied. The youngest are currently around age 6 and the oldest have been retired casual learners (aged 60+). I have taught levels ranging from entry level (A1 and below) to advanced (C1-C2). My students are from a variety of backgrounds: schoolchildren; high school students; university students ; business professionals; casual learners.

Tutoring Approach:

I love to meet new students from all over the world and enjoy working with all levels. Each student has different needs, so I make sure our lessons reflect this. For example, one student may wish to focus on grammar and reading, whereas another might need to work on speaking and phonology.

I use materials such as the Cambridge Empower series for adolescent and adult learners, as I believe it provides a fantastic springboard for learning. For students wishing to focus on business English, I also make use of the Collins Business English range.

I also have many other resources at my disposal that can be adapted to suit each individual student's needs. For example, many students also find it beneficial to analyse newspaper articles, and I am also happy to work with students on any documents they bring to class.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching primary aged children for 5 years and am now lead of English. I have raised standards in reading and writing in both my current school and past schools by leading English.

I have A's in A-level English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Whilst I did not choose to teach this age as a career, I have recently tutored in physics where my 'tutee's' predicted grade has risen from a D to 4 marks off an A, in just 11 weeks!

Tutoring Approach:

I have a thorough and comprehensive understanding of how both children and adults learn- I am quick to gauge different learning styles and therefore sessions will be individualised in their approach. I will bring personalised resources and provide extra work in between sessions if this would be welcomed. I will ensure that rapid and quick progress is made. Since qualifying university I have since had two years experience teaching at an Outstanding school in Merseyside, teaching a range of 11-18 year olds. My pupils have achieved excellent results, especially those targeting A and A* grades.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching for 3 years now at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and adult learner level. I have taught traditional lectures, seminars, workshops, and practical sessions. I also have experience designing and marking assessments at different levels.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe tutoring should be an enjoyable but challenging experience. I utilise a mix of paper-based tasks, presentations, and reading. I believe in constantly measuring performance for individuals so they know how they are improving and I also employ an "errorless learning" approach; I don't believe highlighting peoples failures is an effective method of teaching, rather I treat a wrong answer as a learning experience and encourage people to fail often so that they can grow rapidly.
