Personal Description:
I am 25 years old. I studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford, where I finished with a first, and studied for an MA at York in Post-war Recovery studies.

My main areas of interest are in philosophy, religious studies and development economics. In philosophy, I particularly find the philosophy of religion and ethics interesting. Regarding international development, I am particularly interested in the issue of peacebuilding.

Outside of studying, I am a keen sportsman and especially enjoy rugby, tennis and football. I love listening to music. I continue to enjoy reading, both fiction and academic works.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a personal tutor.

While at sixth form, I was a volunteer mentor on a mentoring program for young people. For those hoping to apply to Oxbridge, I am able to provide some personal feedback and advice about the application process, gleaned from my own experiences.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring focuses on developing discussions rather than providing lectures on topics. I think the key to succeeding in any area of study is developing a passion for the topic in hand, and this is what I will hope to help discover and develop in tutees.

Personal Description:
I am a Mathematics graduate from Cambridge University. After graduating, I worked in the IT industry, initially for a large corporation and then for an independent software house. I later formed my own company, specialising in developing applications for small- to medium-sized companies. I used the logical skills developed through studying Mathematics in my work as Business Analyst and Project Manager.
Since 2009, I have been tutoring Mathematics full-time. I also study extensively to keep up to date with the latest mathematical ideas and educational trends.
Outside work, my main interest is music, particularly singing. I belong to two choirs.

Teaching Experience:

In my IT work I developed and delivered training courses for both colleagues and customers. I also provided personal tuition in Mathematics for many years, both on a professional basis and also to friends. After leaving the IT world, I taught for eight months in an after-school academy in New Malden, preparing children for 11+ and Common Entrance.
In the four years that I have been tutoring Mathematics, I have taught the following to over 150 pupils on a one-to-one basis:
GCSE - Edexcel, AQA and iGCSE

A-Levels (AS/A2) - Edexcel, AQA and OCR:
Core
Mechanics
Statistics
Further Pure
Decision

International Baccalaureate (IB) - Standard and Higher

Undergraduate topics including:
Bayesian statistics
Complex variable
Cryptography
Laplace & Fourier transforms
Mechanics
Number theory
Optimisation
Ordinary and partial differential equations
Probability
Quantitative methods
Real analysis
Vectors and matrices
Vector calculus

My school pupils are drawn from a number of local schools including:
• Tiffin Boys and Girls
• ACS Cobham
• Teddington
• Esher College
• Kingston Grammar
• Hinchley Wood
• Hampton
• Epsom College
• Sutton Grammar
• Coombe
The majority of my university pupils attend Kingston University, or one of the University of London colleges, though many come for intensive lessons in the holidays from other universities to reinforce the topics they are learning, or to prepare for re-sits.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in tailoring the teaching approach to each student's needs and individual learning style. For adults, I work with them to develop a personalised programme to enable them to achieve their goals. For school children and university students, I discuss their aims with them - and with their parents, if required - to determine what topics need additional tuition and then to work out the appropriate programme. I advocate continuous assessment to measure the student's progress. Closer to exams, the pupils will work through old papers. At this stage, strategic choices may be made to focus on the pupils strengths.
I have great passion for and a deep knowledge of Mathematics. My aim is always to get my students to enjoy the subject. Most importantly, they are encouraged to gain confidence in their own abilities by building on what they feel comfortable with. I believe that the right teacher can undo wrong learning very quickly.
Lessons take place at my students' homes, or at my home in Kingston, where I have a quiet study. Assignments and homework are an integral part of my teaching: there can be no improvement without practice.

I believe the best tutoring occurs when there are focused objectives and the student is motivated to learn. To ensure every student is motivated I work hard to build confidence with a variety of activities and a positive approach that is full of praise. I work carefully within the assessment objectives set down for each exam or task to ensure that the time is used most effectively.

I have experience of individual tuition for 11+, 13+, GCSE, A-Level and Oxbridge. I have also successfully mentored students for entry into Yale and other Ivy League schools, helping them structure their admissions essays and projects. I have supervised students at residential revision schools in Hampshire and Essex, as well as having tutored 25 3-day holiday and weekend sessions for a major revision company.

Personal Description:
I am a Cambridge mathematics graduate with an abiding love for maths and a passion to help students discover and master maths for themselves. Two of my three children have left university and one is still at primary school, so I am engaged closely with the education system at all levels and understand what both students and parents are looking for to achieve academic success. I and my family have lived in Cranleigh for over 20 years and have connections with a number of local schools.

Teaching Experience:

At the time of writing I have more than 15 active tutees spread right across the secondary level, from A-level Further Maths to Year 7. Additionally I have extensive experience as a trainer and coach over more than 25 years as a business manager and consultant. This means I can combine teaching expertise with a wide-ranging practical approach to all aspects of mathematics, to help students learn more effectively through seeing how maths is directly relevant to real life. I have also coached my own children effectively at various ages and through a number of subjects including mathematics, one son having gone on himself to complete a mathematics degree at Cambridge University.

Tutoring Approach:

More than almost any other subject, maths needs confidence to be built, and an individually tailored approach. Some students can grasp mathematical concepts, but need practice to eliminate errors, and challenge to stretch their capabilities. Others struggle to understand at a more basic level, and an imaginative and pictorial approach with plenty of real world examples is needed to achieve that "penny drops" moment!

Depending on the student, tuition may include any or all of: coaching to consolidate (or anticipate) teaching at school; revision for examinations; working through past examination papers; teaching and testing of specific sections of the curriculum; or more free-wheeling exploration of mathematical topics. By agreement with students and parents, homework may be set and marked.

I offer engaging and effective mathematics tuition at all secondary levels including GCSE and A-level. If you want to succeed in your exams and also to deepen your appreciation of mathematics and have fun, then get in touch!

Personal Description:
I attended Twycross House School from age 6-18 and attained 9A*s at GCSE and AABA at A Level. I then went on to study at University of Bristol and I graduated with a BA English and Drama (2:1). Since graduating I work as a nanny and tutor, children's theatre workshop leader and professionally as an actress and writer.

Teaching Experience:

My specialist subjects are 5+, 7+ and 11+. I also teach GSCE English, elocution lessons and carry out sessions for general homework help. I have helped my students raise their grades, improve their confidence and find new ways of learning.

Current jobs:

Weekly play dates and 7+ prep with 6yr old twins Alessandro and Allegra.

5+ prep (Habs) and elocution lessons for 4yr old Hana.

11+ (North London) prep and homework help for 9yr old Camille.

7+ sessions: Weekly sessions with 6 year old Kynan in preparation for Colet Court entrance exams, with a focus on story writing and comprehension.

Past Jobs

EFL with 5yrr old French twins, Maddy and Joseph: To improve the twins΄ grasp of the English language I constructed a weekly programme where we played games, read books, sang songs and engaged in practical activities which incorporate practical conversation and vocabulary. I set them fun weekly skills tests which demonstrated their progress and helped their relationship as they work together as a team. (June - July 2013)

(Feb 2012) Alistair Ekrami, GCSE German - Alistair seemed shy and unconfident but I worked on bringing him out of his shell and talking about things we had in common. He then had lots to talk about in German and was more assertive in written work. We worked on verb tenses and grammar particularly. I saw an improvement in just two sessions.

(November 2011- Present) Salman, Primary School, all subjects - Salman excels at mathmatics but struggles with literacy and concentration. I spend time encouraging him to take more care over his written work and have seen a real improvement in spelling and handwriting. He benefits particularly from creative and kinesthetic teaching techniques.

Louise, GSCE German (OCR). Work focussed on her oral and listening practice. Louise was nervous and scared to speak in German but by the end of our sessions she was confident and competent. We built up to speaking in conversation about subjects which she found interesting engaging. Naturally her written work, vocabulary and grammar came on leaps and bounds along with her confidence.

Katie, GCSE English (OCR). Katie needed help with her War Poetry module. A logically minded student who I encouraged to work and think more imaginatively. She found a genuine interest in literature.

Tristan, GCSE Latin (OCR). A challenging student who needed help with translations and unseens. Tristan had a short attention span so I worked in regular breaks and quick bursts of work which worked very well. He greatly improved his grammar and vocabulary.

4-11 year olds at Summer Sports Camp. I worked as a team leader co-ordinating schedules, monitoring the children during their breaks and assisting coaches.

Theatre Workshop Leader for 4-8 years at Pinvin School, Worcestershire. Interactive and collaborative exercises, songs and games resulting in performance.

Tutoring Approach:

I have tutored English, Latin and German to GCSE level for the past 3 years. I helped my students raise their grades, improve their confidence and find new ways of studying.

I come from an arts background having graduated from University of Bristol with a 2:1 in BA English and Drama and then going on to study Postgraduate Acting at Drama Studio London.

My desire to tutor evolves from my own personal schooling experiences. I attended a small private school (Twycross House School) from 3 to 18 years which boasted an intimate and academic atmosphere where classes consisted of three pupils to one teacher, sometimes teaching was even one to one. I am eager to teach in the style I personally thrived under and a system which I believe is the best.

In my opinion a good tutor is someone who creates an open, creative and positive space, outside of the school classroom, where the student feels confident in trying new things and is not afraid or embarrassed to get things wrong.

I have spent a lot of time in the company of children as a tutor, nanny and workshop leader and thus understand the demands of different age groups and can always find a way to relate and work with them successfully. I aim to inject new energy and find new strategies that will help my student get the best results.
