Joe (Mr)

Personal Description:
I graduated from King's College, Cambridge in 2009 with a degree in Classics and then completed my PGCE at Queens' College, Cambridge in 2010. I currently supervise Cambridge University undergraduates in Latin and Ancient Greek, and tutor both languages to degree-level standard in London and Cambridge. I tutor in Cambridge during the week and in London on Sundays and in school holidays.

Teaching Experience:

* Two years as Head of Latin at a prep school in Bury St Edmunds.

* Three years supervising Cambridge University undergraduates in Latin and Ancient Greek (at Pembroke, Downing, Homerton, Queens', King's, Trinity, Murray Edwards, Newnham, Caius, Peterhouse, St John's and Emmanuel colleges).

* Six years privately tutoring Latin and Ancient Greek (and some other subjects).

* In July 2010 and 2011 I taught an intensive 'ab initio' ten day Latin course to Oxford and Cambridge beginners at the JACT Latin Summer School in Wells.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in three key principles:

1. ANYBODY CAN EXCEL IN LATIN AND GREEK
With a little guidance and a decent amount of independent work, it is genuinely possible for anybody to master the ancient languages.

2. GRAMMAR IS KEY
I believe that an understanding of Latin grammar is empowering. It eliminates guess-work and maximizes success. If correctly taught, it can also be a lot of fun.

3. TUTORS ARE FACILITATORS
Private tuition can be extremely helpful, but it is not a replacement for independent study. Fast progress and true success are only possible if the student works outside of the sessions.

There are six main aspects to my teaching:

1. Energy & Pace: I am highly energized and like to work speedily and efficiently.

2. Slow down to speed up: I believe that thorough and detailed explanations in the short term are an essential investment in time, and enable a faster pace in the future.

3. Structure: My subject splits itself very naturally into manageable units and topics. I like the student to be aware of these chunks and how they fit into the broader picture.

4. Reinforcement: I begin every lesson recapping the work covered during the previous session. This takes as little as five minutes, but repetition is the key to successful learning.

5. Homework: Independent study is the only way to get the most from private tuition: the two must work in tandem. I set work to be completed between every session.

6. Resources: In most cases I like to use a combination of the Cambridge Latin Course and my own worksheets. I often tailor-make resources to the individual student if the need arises.

Above all, I strive to make my lessons fun and enjoyable. I love my subject and want all of my tutees to love it too.

Personal Description:
A postgraduate student at Cass Business School, studying Actuarial Science. Just graduated from University of Manchester with Mathematics with Finance.
As a native speaker of Mandarin and Cantonese, I grew up in Hong Kong and had been studied in Malaysia for 2 years and Hong Kong for the rest. In addition, I have 2 younger sisters as a eldest brother and therefore I do well in tutoring. In my past Foundation year, I gained A* in Pure Mathematics, and A* in Business Mathematics and A in Computer. I am convinced that my academic achievement makes me a good fit in tutoring Mathematics for GCSE/A-Level students.

Teaching Experience:

In past, in Hong Kong and Malaysia, I tutored friends and anyone who were around me in Mathematics, which gave me loads of chance to enhance my teaching approaches.
I taught in Manchester last 2 years as well.

Tutoring Approach:

I would be more than happy to go trough past exam papers and exercises as for Maths with students.
Surely, to prepare notes and advice certain study skills for the students in Mathematics. I reckon that tutoring in a friendly manner would enhance learning process instead of forcing the student to do as said. You are more then welcome to have a briefing before the first tuition in order to make sure we have the same goal.

Personal Description:
I am a hardworking, enthusiastic and trustworthy individual with vast experience of working in the education sector and with 16/19 year olds in particular.

I am self-motivated, an excellent communicator and adaptable to the needs of the individual student.

I have always been committed to providing a high quality educational experience. I enjoy working with young people and take considerable pride in being involved in their progression to higher education and being able to assist them in their objective.

Teaching Experience:

As a Law teacher of over 30 years experience I have accumulated a wealth of knowledge with regard to the subject matter of the courses. I have attended a number of meetings with representatives of the Exam Boards and have familiarised myself with their marking schemes. With such experience comes the ability to "spot" the likely questions to be asked in the final exams.

Over the years the exam results of my students in A Level Law have been excellent. The A2 results have almost always been over 90% and I have in fact achieved a 100% pass rate on more than one occasion.

I have regularly attended conferences held at Cambridge University at which A Level Law teachers from all over the country were updated on their subject and given the opportunity to question the Chief Examiners of the various Exam Boards.

Tutoring Approach:

My experience of teaching on a range of courses means that I am able to adapt to the needs of individual learners.

One of my strongest characteristics is my ability to motivate. I have had students come to me lacking any confidence whatsoever and being very unsure about themselves. Many have subsequently pursued degree courses at University and quite a significany number are now in the legal profession.

I always endeavour to maintain the students' awareness and understanding of key issues affecting the subject of Law. To this end I encourage them to read quality newspapers and to extract relevant information from the Internet.

As a Law teacher it is essential to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. I have the ability to clearly explain both legal concepts and case examples.

Personal Description:
I am a 26 year old female graduate from the University of Strathclyde, in Glasgow. I have a joint Honours degree in French and Italian (language and studies) for which I gained a 2:1. I also have a Masters in Marketing which I also obtained from the University of Strathclyde. I am currently working as the Marketing Co-ordinator for a Plant & Tool Hire company based in Glasgow, where I am responsible for the Marketing for the whole business, including Head Office and our 59 depots throughout the UK. I spent a year abroad in Lyon, France, during my fourth year of university, where I worked as an English Language Assistant in two high schools. I am extremely patient and understanding and have a lot of experience tutoring both young children and teenagers, especially in French and Italian. I am passionate about working with and helping others and find it to be a most rewarding experience and I would love to pass on my knowledge and skills, in my specialist subjects, in order to help develop the skills of the tutees I will be working with. I am a very driven, confident and enthusiastic individual and I give 100% to everything I am involved with and I am passionate about achieving results and helping others to do so also.

Teaching Experience:

I am currently undertaking the PGDE in Education to teach French & Italian in secondary schools and have acquired a great amount of experience throughout my school placements and have gained great confidence in teaching the new National 4 and 5 qualifications. During my fourth year of University, I worked in two high schools in Lyon, France as an English language assistant, teaching children, teenagers and young adults, from the age of nine to twenty three. I was responsible for helping them with all aspects of the language, and developing their reading, writing, listening and verbal skills by preparing and working on a number of different activities. I also taught them about British culture, history and lifestyles so as to help develop their knowledge of Britain, particularly Scotland, in general. I ensured that I worked differently with different individuals, depending on their style of learning and I took a different approach accordingly. I aimed to make my style of teaching both informative and fun so that they enjoyed learning and I believe this is something I am always successful in as many tutees I have worked with have commented on my positive and helpful way of teaching.

In my final year of high school I was involved in the 'Peer Education' programme whereby I went into five different French and Italian classes and helped those who were experiencing difficulties with the subjects. I helped particularly with grammar issues as these seemed to pose the most problems for pupils and I also helped them prepare for upcoming speaking and writing tests. I also helped pupils to understand easier ways of making the most of their French or Italian dictionary and taught them creative and simple of ways of tackling listening and reading tests. Moreover, I worked on a one to one basis with a Higher grade pupil who was experiencing problems with French and we explored different ways of making difficult areas that much easier. I was also part of the 'Paired Reading' programme where I worked with pupils aged eleven to fifteen who experienced reading difficulties. I met with three pupils for one hour each week, on an individual basis, and we would work on techniques for improving their reading ability and they would read to me. These two programmes were very gratifying, especially when I witnessed a pupil's confidence grow as their reading skills improved.

I have also tutored two family friends, both in French and Italian, with a great focus on exam preparation and the skills that they needed to do well on class tests. I also help my niece and nephew with their French, focusing greatly on the areas they find the most difficult.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a different approach to my tutoring depending on the individual I am working with. On my first session with my tutee I will find out the areas that they are experiencing the most difficulty in, and what their strengths and weaknesses are, as this will help me to develop an effective and helpful way of teaching. I prepare various worksheets, practice tests and activities which are interactive and will allow for valuable learning. I will ask the tutee what their preferred way of learning is and look at ways in which they successfully learn in other subjects and try to incorporate this in to my way of teaching. I encourage tutees to ask questions wherever necessary and to state if they wish me to try a different approach. I believe communication is the key to successful learning and I pride myself on my friendly and approachable nature and my ability to achieve results in my tuition. On the whole, I am aware that my way of teaching has to be of benefit to the tutee so I will tailor my approach to suit their wants and needs.

I have a wide experience, having taught individuals and groups, provided structured lessons as well as less formal conversation classes and used these skills across a range of age groups.

I am an enthusiastic, hard-working person and passionate about the importance of learning different languages. I see this as the best way of extending people's worlds and ideas.

Personal Description:
I am an experienced teacher with qualified teachers status, who has taught in England and abroad. I have been helping children build up the gaps in their learning level since 1994. I am able to discover various learning styles to help children improve their learning. I am currently a supply teacher teaching in Hertfordshire and in Luton. Due to my vast Experience in teaching in various schools as a supply teacher I have an in depth knowledge of the national curriculum for maths and English for key stage 1 and 2 , from years reception to year 6 and have always received positive feedback from students parents. I am a mother of two teenage boys.

Teaching Experience:

I have a BA.Ed from abroad and soon after graduation I taught English and literature for two years in a secondary school(year 8 and 9). In 2005 after I gained my PGCE primary and have been teaching in primary schools since then. , covering years 1 to 6 in various schools in london . I now teach in stevenage and surrounding towns. I have been a supply teacher and Tutor for over 7 years .

Tutoring Approach:

when teaching children on a one to one basis, I usually start by giving them a general assessment on their reading and problem solving skills. After this I am able to plan for each child on an individual basis on how to help them improve their levels and fill gaps in their learning. Sometimes children come to my home but most times I tend to teach children in their own homes. I normally teach the children for an hour and then give them homework for further skill practice. I also help children and parents draw up a reading and learning timetable which is very easy to follow, this has proven to be very effective in the past, in helping children become independent learners. My approach is to be friendly but professional and help children relax in order to enjoy learning.

Personal Description:
I am a second year Law student at the University of York Law School, having finished first year in the top 10 students in my year. Previous to this I attained an A at A-Level Law and History. Currently I am looking at a career in international commercial practise. I have extensive experience in advocacy competitions - having been awarded the prize of Best Advocate in two separate competitions. I have also completed a wide variety of legal work experience placements, including both criminal and commercial practise, mixed set Barristers chambers and judicial marshalling and have an excellent understanding of the legal environment.

Aside from my academic and professional life, I remain a keen horse rider, having competed my own horses for the last 6 years in both dressage and show jumping. I am a regular theatregoer, and have broad tastes in both literature and music.

From my current manager at On Campus Promotions, who recruited me for my role as Campus Ambassador for Linklaters, an international law firm:

"I have known Matt since the Summer of 2012, when he applied for the role of a Brand Ambassador representing Linklaters on campus at York University. In the short time I have known him, Matt has demonstrated a keenness and determination to succeed and excel in his career and personal development.

To successfully secure the role, Matt went through a rigorous recruitment process including submitting an online application form, passing a critical reasoning test and lastly, a telephone interview undertaken by myself and one of the leading graduate recruiters at Linklaters - from which I can confidently state that his written, communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills are of a very high standard.

Upon securing the role, Matt also attended a training day at Linklaters during which my opinion on all of the above as well as his presentation and team working skills was reassured. Matt has a great sense of humour and his interpersonal skills make him both a memorable and endearing member of my team - even at this early stage we have had numerous conversations that end in one or both of us smiling.

From what I know of Matt, I have no hesitation in recommending him as a tutor, who will without doubt inspire and instill a good work ethic in his tutees."

Teaching Experience:

Previous to my time at University, I gained extensive teaching experience through teaching at local stable yards across a broad range of riders; from children to adults of all ages. Through this I developed my understanding of the need for different approaches to suit different people, whilst also developing my ability to convey knowledge concisely and effectively. During this time, I received praise from both students and parents alike, and was frequently requested as an instructor for private and group tuition. Because of this, I would happily consider teaching small groups of 2 or 3 students at the same time for a reduced tuition fee.

I am currently tutoring History at GCSE level to one student, who recently achieved an A grade in his mock retake-exam, up from an E in his previous exam. I have enough time to take on 2/3 additional students.

Tutoring Approach:

By far the biggest problems occur in education when students stop enjoying what they are learning and begin to disengage, something that can be easily avoided! I am passionate about the subjects I offer to teach, I find them genuinely interesting and always have done.

I am able to cater to the needs of students - I do not believe that there is a one size fits all approach, and that the key to effective teaching is understanding how each individual student learns. Ultimately however, the goal is to ensure that the student reaches their maximum potential, and performing well in exams is only one facet of this. Having been through the British education system I have first-hand experience of areas that it does not perform well in, and teaching should not stop at the last page of the syllabus.

In today's economic climate, the importance of becoming well rounded, mature and knowledgeable cannot be underscored enough, and any help I can give to help students become successful (and avoid the mistakes I made!) I am more than happy to give.

Personal Description:
I am a Cambridge graduate and a full-time, professional tutor with a friendly approach to tutoring, placing emphasis on confidence-building as well as knowledge attainment.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring at varying levels, from 11+ to University, for nearly three years, and am now a full-time tutor working for agencies, institutions, local authorities and private clients. Most of this work has been preparation for a particular exam, although I have also had students who are studying just for the enjoyment of it. I feel well-suited to being 'on the other end' of the one-to-one style of teaching that I benefited from at university.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is friendly and informal. I prefer to let the tutee dictate the pace of a session by encouraging them to interrupt or ask me to repeat when we hit upon work they are not fully understanding.

I have found that the most efficient use of a tutoring session is for me to first outline the theory of what we are going to study in that session to the student, and then use the remainder of the time to work through questions with the student as they become progressively more comfortable with the content until, ultimately, they feel able to answer the questions alone.

The content of the sessions is always tailored to the particular qualification the student is working towards, and the student has complete autonomy over what we study together.
