Personal Description:
I am an experienced private tutor and mentor who enjoys working with committed students who want to develop their minds as well as acquire examination skills. I currently work full-time from home. I am also able to offer Classical Civilisation, Theology, and courses in Christian Spirituality and to assist with all aspects of university entrance. In addition to my tutorial work, I write and edit texts. I am a grandfather and enjoy the fresh challenges of early learning.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in state and independent schools in the UK, holding posts of Head of Department, Senior Master, and Headmaster (overseas). I have experience of teaching students from a variety of cultural backgrounds. I have mentored post-graduate students and proof-read theses and dissertations. For twenty years, in addition to teaching, I have been the Director of a small charity working on medical and educational projects in a village in Kenya. Since 'retirement' I have been tutoring from home. Most of my students have stayed with me for three years or more, while others have required short-term support for particular units of study.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning is the path to discovery, joy and well-being and that tutoring and mentoring focus on the needs of the learner. While there are countless resources available for learners on the internet, I offer a personal, non-judgmental approach that seeks to inspire and encourage the student at an important stage in their life journey. My approach is pastoral as well as academic, having regard for the individual needs of my students.

I have been tutoring for the last seven years and I have been teaching for the last five years

Teaching Experience:

I have taught BTEC Forensics at Oakmead, Access to HE Forensics and Regulation of Physiology and BTEC Level 3 Science in Health & Beauty at Bournemouth & Poole College. I have also taught GCSE Human Health & Physiology for 2 years at Oakmead and at Wiltshire College and GCSE History during my placement.

I always try to gain an initial assessment on where the student is. This will guide me on where the student has to improve. While I prepare well for any tutoring session I believe in stretching and challenging the student and I will always ask questions to reinforce the knowledge. My approach is not just giving the student past papers and worksheets but to talk, engage and discuss any problems through in depth questioning so that are there as this will prevent misconceptions and allow full understanding.

Personal Description:
I am a native Chinese and I come from northeast of China - Chang Chun, where the first movie and car was made in China.

I have been in the UK for nearly 5 years, and I feel grateful to experience this dynamic culture and to meet many nice and interesting people.

I am interested in food, healthy living and different cultures, I like to visit and explore new places, meet people, and most importantly, to do something I feel passionate about.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching Mandarin in 2002, I volunteered to teach 7 western teachers at Jilin University, where I studied, in China, and I gained my first teaching experience.

A year later after my graduation I went on working for Dao Hang Language Institution in China as an English teacher. I taught both children and adults, and from then I realised each student had their own unique way of learning, and teaching should be tailored according to each individual's need.

I also provided Mandarin lessons to corporate staff whist working for GE and Philips in China.

After settling in the UK, I started teaching private lessons from October 2009. I've been receiving positive feedback from my students, and as a result, they have increased their weekly lessons with me.

Tutoring Approach:

I use various ways to teach, it normally combines listening, speaking, reading and writing activities. According to my student's need I tailor the lessons by increasing certain activities, along with Chinese culture and customs explained. I also focus on conversation practice, from everyday phrases, short sentences, to long sentences.

I believe Mandarin can be easily learned if there is a clear sentence structure, speaking patterns and situational dialogue.

Personal Description:
I am an ex- Imperial College academic who now runs a team and personal development consultancy. I am calm and encouraging in manner. I moved out of the city into the countryside six years ago and have never once regretted it.

I was a Science and Engineering Ambassador for SETNET. In 2005 I had and Enhanced Disclosure CRB check. I was responsible for organizing a number of Science Outreach events. Science can be fun!!

I have been told that I am a good motivator and that I help people fulfill their potential. All my students show significant grade enhancement, sometimes from U to A!

Teaching Experience:

I was a senior lecturer in Physical Chemistry at Imperial College London, where I was also Senior Tutor. This meant that I had responsibility for the entire departmental tutorial system for some~450 students and the training of new members of staff. I have been involved in small group teaching for over 13 years.

I have been privately tutoring AS/A2 Chemistry and Physics for around two years in the Hants / Surrey borders.

I also help with UCAS applications as I had an admissions role at IC.

I have some experience of working with people with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD and Aspergers.

Tutoring Approach:

Each student is different and I tailor my method to the needs of the student, offering a bespoke approach. It usually takes three or four sessions to get to know what does and does not work for each individual. I try different methods. Some people learn more visually and conceptually others like more practical methods. I prefer to work through problems / exam papers with the student rather than "teach". That way in working together the student takes responsibility for their own learning. Learning is by discussion and doing.

I try to be as flexible as possible and fit round family schedules.

Personal Description:
I graduated from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with a first class honors degree in composition and attained my MA in musicology with Distinction from the University of Bristol.

My first instrument is piano and I am currently working towards a ABRSM Diploma in Piano Performance. I also sing, play acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar and am currently learning the viola da gamba and drum kit.

I'm a native bilingual German and English speaker and am happy to teach in either language. I am also a CELTA qualified English tutor and offer separate English and German lessons.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience includes one-to-one language teaching, EFL classroom teaching to adults and teenagers, and music workshop leadership at primary school level.

Tutoring Approach:

In terms of music performance (i.e. piano and singing) I like to take a holistic approach that includes relaxation techniques, breathing and posture, playing technique, theory and aural skills that will aid improvisation, as well as classical training.

For music theory and history it depends very much what your background is - for GCSE and A-Level students the lessons will be built around the curriculum of the relevant examining body. For students who are preparing for auditions or interviews at conservatoires I will be working towards expected grades. With students who want to gain a broader general knowledge of music theory and history I will be looking at a range of issues including aesthetics and ethnomusicology.

As far as German and English is concerned, again it depends on your level of either language. There will be significant focus on conversation and gaining a feeling for the language, as well as essential grammar. Lessons will be tailored to your specific needs and interests.

Personal Description:
I am a 23 year old Singaporean currently studying Economics at UCL on a scholarship from Singapore's Public Service Commission. Outside of school, I devote most of my time to training either with the University Table Tennis Team or the Football Club. I served with the Singaporean army after graduating from Junior College in 2009, and came to London to begin my undergraduate studies in 2012.

Teaching Experience:

I have been giving private tuition since 2010, to students ranging from 9-18 years old. I enjoyed those experiences and am looking forward to providing help to whoever may need it. I tutored mostly in Math, Chemistry, Physics and Economics (these are the subjects I pursued in Junior College). I had a memorable time teaching SAT English to a class of Koreans and also one-on-one with a student from China, where I had to translate between English and Chinese.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in making the student feel confident in his/her own abilities. I want the student to be comfortable with asking questions, without the fear of making a mistake. I usually set my students some homework, but this is flexible according to the student's schedule. I hope for my students to be able to set targets for themselves and take ownership of their academic success, and ultimately mature as youths. Having recently (relatively) graduated from Junior College, I believe I will be able to relate with my students, not just on an academic level, but on a personal one as well.

Personal Description:
I am a native French speaker. I am friendly, approachable, patient and non-judgmental. I am passionate about French and English literature. I speak and write a good standard of English and French. I have successfully completed the course PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) (Level 4) at Strode College, Somerset. This is really useful in my role as a tutor.
I studied Philosophy and French literature up to the Baccalauréat in Brittany. I graduated in Brest University where I passed a degree (Deug) in English and American literature, English Grammar, linguistics, Phonetics, translation from English into French and vice-versa. The degree also included American and English History. I have the level of Licence in the same fields as above. I have an up-to-date DBS certificate ( May 2013).

Teaching Experience:

I have been a private tutor for over two years now and enjoy this very much. I help teenagers improve their grades for GCSE French and successfully prepare for A levels. My experience involves working with adult and teenage students. Sessions are tailored to the specific needs of students such as someone needing to speak French for work. In the school year 2014, I have helped students prepare for their GCSE. This involves explaining from scratch the main points of grammar and guiding their pronunciation so students can perform better for oral and listening exams. At the moment, June 2014, I am helping a student study the novel Madame Bovary more in depth. This is in preparation for the entry to University. This involves weekly sessions where I prepare questions in French for my student. I expect the student to prepare answers in French. We discuss in French the style of the novelist, the main themes, the protagonists, the plot etc. I spend time carefully preparing sessions with the view of increasing the fluency of students. In the course of the school year 2012-2013 I taught English (via skype) to one of my nieces and she achieved good grades in English for her Baccalaureat. At the same time, I also helped an A level student to study Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. I chose excerpts from the novel and prepared questions for the student. When we met, in addition to going through the prepared questions and analysis, I focused on the pronunciation, grammar and spelling plus vocabulary. I truly enjoy seeing my students improve their confidence in spoken and written French. I can help adults brush on their French or learn the language from a beginner's level up to an advanced level.
One of my students from Wales, Anne wrote: I would highly recommend Annie as a tutor to anyone learning French. She really knows her stuff - not just as a native French speaker but as a teacher who is tuned in to where a learner has problems and knowledge gaps. She is very helpful in supplying the information that you don't get in the textbooks and in providing insights into both written and spoken French. Add to that friendliness and a sense of humour and you have everything you could ask for in an expert language tutor.
Rosie from Wells, Somerset: 'Annie is a very good French teacher, she is kind, smart, patient. My French has improved just after a few lessons and I really look forward to our next session together'.
The following is a comment by another student,Neil:' Our conversational French sessions are focused but flexible. Either of us can suggest a topic to talk about and we have covered a wide range of subjects. Annie writes a lot of useful notes as we go along. I take these away and regularly refer to them, they are great for revision. I like the fact that Annie can tell me what the French would really say as opposed to what it says in the dictionary. Importantly, we enjoy a laugh'.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to discuss with my students to know exactly what the students want to get from the lessons. I keep in mind that each student has different goals and motives to learn the language. I draw a learning plan to guide the students and myself. My tutoring sessions are tailor-made as students are different with different learning styles. I think it is important that students make progress and for this I think it is also important that the atmosphere be pleasant so I do like it when my students are enjoying their learning and progressing.

I like to focus on the pronunciation so students can be understood properly by French native speakers. It does make things easier for students when they travel to France or if they want to work there, for instance. I focus on the pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and spelling. I truly enjoy seeing my students improve their confidence in spoken and written French, I also provide tips regarding modern spoken French. While tutoring to beginners, I find that it is important to offer to students a good grasp of grammar as this enables students to start constructing little useful sentences on their own. I correct students on their pronunciation to give them a good start. I am aware that everyone is different and consequently I tend to teach according to the needs of each student. I have an up-to-date DBS certificate ( May 2013).

Personal Description:
I am a recently semi-retired teacher. I am married with five grown up children. I enjoy gardening and relish my early morning swim. I enjoy life and am very much a 'glass half full' rather than a 'glass half empty' type of person. I have a degree in Law, Economics and Business as well as a Master degree in Education. I am a qualified NVQ assessor. I am also qualified to teach both adults and secondary school students. I have a lot of experience teaching pupils with dyslexia or other learning difficulties.

I can offer high quality teaching of individual or whole course topics as required

Teaching Experience:

I have 28 years experience as a Head of Department and teacher at a school that regularly exceeded national targets or business and law. My lessons have always been graded as good or better by Ofsted and other observers. I am an examiner in both business and law and write exam papers for business studies. I am familiar with the requirements of all of the major awarding bodies and can give exam tips for success as well as teaching towards the subject.

Tutoring Approach:

Although I am new to this website, I have tutored a number of pupils over the years. My objective is to put all of my tutees at their ease and then design a programme that meets their individual requirements and needs. I am a specialist teacher of dyslexic pupils and will coach them in a way that makes learning comfortable yet still challenging. I like to set homework in order to consolidate learning and provide feedback in such a way as to retain understanding. It is fair to say that I I strive to ensure the success of my tutees.

Personal Description:
My name is Dina and I am twenty three years old, every since I was 15 I was fascinated with biology it is truly my ambition in life. I love teaching people about it in anyway possible.

Teaching Experience:

I have been tutoring for almost five years now and my most recent experience was with IGCSE biology I am very well acquainted with it as I took the same curriculum in school myself.

Tutoring Approach:

I use a concept based approach, since biology can be a bulky subject to grasp in one go, I prefer cutting in into smaller cascades that can be easily understood by beginners or students who struggle with the subject. I believe in the power of motivation as well since students must believe in themselves to achieve anything they aspire to. And finally enough effort would inevitably pay off.

Personal Description:
I have lived in both France and Spain over the past ten years and have recently moved back to Plymouth, UK where I hope to be able to continue English language tuition to speakers of other languages. I am single, have a reliable car and can travel to students' homes as well as offering my home as a place of tuition.

Teaching Experience:

After obtaining the TESOL Trinity College certificate almost two decades ago, I have taught the English language to speakers of other languages on a part-ime basis on & off ever since. I commenced an English language teaching academy in Cartagena, Spain last year which I have subsequently sold on.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is that I aim to provide a solid grounding in the subject while paying close attention to the needs of the student.

I hold an initial meeting in order to establish the student's needs and the direction the tuition should take, usually with a parent / guardian present in the case of a child. We then commence work on a programme of study focusing on filling gaps in knowledge and addressing any areas of weakness. Regular meeting with parents / guardians can also be made if necessary in order to discuss progress made and any areas of weakness.

Tuition generally runs as an independent course running parallel to and complementing what the student is doing at school or college. However, the programme of study can readily be put aside to prepare an assignment for school, controlled assessment or coursework. As exams approach, the focus will move towards examination technique and looking at past papers.

I aim to run my tuition in support of the progression of my students through their subject syllabus, but I am also willing to progress more slowly and focus on particularly weak areas if the student so desires. I will also offer pre-exam revision sessions for all exams including modular resits and conduct end of topic tests and mock exams should the student desire.

I will provide each student with a progress log and detailed feedback on how they are performing and areas where they need to improve, I may also set work for my students to complete outside of sessions and for this set work I will offer a marking service.

I am mobile, with a reliable vehicle and therefore can teach in both my own home or that of the student. I can vary my style depending on the ability and needs of the student and to this end I expect students to maintain regular contact in regards to their subject progressions and individual needs. I expect students to arrive at tuition sessions with a clear idea of what it is they hope to get from the sessions.

I am able to teach throughout the week, mornings, afternoons and early evenings as well as some weekends.

Personal Description:
I am passionate about helping young people to learn and develop themselves. I have over 10 years experience working with children in a variety of roles, ranging from Deputy Director of Youth Camps to private tutor for academic studies and violin.

I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for learning in order to nurture their curiosity. Although I am very organised and task-focused, my methods are based on making learning fun, positive and engaging, as this has shown to work best in my previous roles.

In my free time, I have a passion for music and I play first violin in an amateur orchestra based in London. I also love travelling, learning new languages and experiencing new cultures whenever possible.

As far as my aspirations, I am currently working on setting up an organisation aimed at helping young women get into the technology sector.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience tutoring young people in France. Between 2007 and 2011 I worked with a number of students on a variety of subjects, ranging from year 5 to year 13. This ranged from general support for younger pupils and subject-focused tuition for A-Level students. I also currently give private French tuition to adults in London.

I worked with all of my students for at least one year, helping them to get a better grasp and understanding of the disciplines they were having difficulties with. I have always succeeded in my task of helping them to improve and reach a new level of achievement by setting challenging yet achievable targets. With one student, I helped her to discover the beauty of Spanish (a subject she had little interest in) and to get top marks for her A-level. Another I worked with across all disciplines and helped her to successfully pass her GCSE equivalents when she was predicted to perform poorly.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very passionate about tutoring and able to adapt to any challenges and find a solution that works for the individual student. I like to explore new ways of learning and find a way that helps the student to understand and appreciate concepts and ideas that they previously found complicated and to build on existing capacities.

I have worked both through agencies and directly with families and have received consistent praise for my work and dedication with my students. I am used to working with families with high expectations and understand the importance of a good communication with the parents as well as the student to keep them in the loop of the progress made and the steps implemented to reach the target set.
