| Personal Description: I'm a 23-year-old postgraduate student from Nottingham Trent University with two First Class degrees - one in English Literature from Lancaster University and a postgraduate degree in Print Journalism from Nottingham Trent University. I'm friendly and approachable and love to meet new people. I live in Lancaster and intend to take on a further course of study in the next academic year - hopefully leading on to a PhD in English Literature. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught for several weeks at Skerton High School, in Lancaster, as well as taking part in several one-to-one teaching opportunities through college and University. I enjoyed my time spent teaching very much, which has influenced me to offer my services to children or adults who would benefit from a little extra attention on the run up to exams, in a subject they struggle with or in an academic area they'd like a bit of outside influence in. |
Tutoring Approach: I've always achieved very high results myself but I don't believe this can be done working alone from a text book. I like to engage students with lots of questions and encourage them to work through their ideas out loud, through research and practical examples. I achieved my two degrees, 5 As at A Level and 2 As and 9 A*s at GCSE this way - and I'm sure others can benefit from it too. |

| Personal Description: Having just gained a first during my opening year of the engineering design programme at Bristol, and having explored a wide variety of extracurricular activities, I am staying in Bristol over the summer, so would be happy to help your child prepare for next years studies during this often wasted period of time. |
Teaching Experience: My first tutee improved 4 grades in As physics after about 10 hours of tuition in 1 week. I really enjoyed the process of finding the weaknesses in an individuals understanding, and turning them into strengths, and would love to work with some pupils for a longer period of time, to give them a real advantage. I have always enjoyed helping others to understand concepts better, including classmates, friends and family. I have a passion for learning, and this is something that I like to share with others. As the vice president of the major student society Engineers Without Borders, I am involved in many of our Outreach activities, such as running workshops at local schools, and at big events such as Discover and the Festival of Nature, where we introduce children ( mostly primary or early secondary) to the ideas of development engineering- which is fun and fulfilling. |
Tutoring Approach: Working at a subject is the only way to gain an understanding of it, an understanding that stands you in great stead throughout life, academically, in a career, and in the living of life (being good at maths definitely brings my shopping bill down!) A pupil today is at school receiving education from 9-4 (or something similar), and that education is a great start to life, but it cannot be denied that much of schooltime is wasted, that the children who don't understand are not given sufficient explanation and that those who already do are not given a challenge. Through my tutoring I provide those individual explanations and challenges that are so needed, whilst aiming to instill an enthusiasm for academic study that will mean students begin to understand the world in the light of their education and can take fuller advantage of their schooling. Over the summer period I would be very happy to work with pupils of all ages on a range of subjects, to broaden their education, and so that when they return to school they are equipped to learn. Research has shown that the summer holidays are the period when separation between those from poor backgrounds and those who are more privileged occurs. With a light programme of enjoyable study, I believe a significant long term improvement in students abilities will take place, whilst there is also a bit more to do in the holidays. |

I 'm optimist, fun-loving, easy-going, while serious and patient and good at making jokes in both Chinese and English :) . I'm also a versatile person. I play guitar, football, basketball, and have a good knowledge of Chinese culture and history. In addition, I write good Chinese calligraphy. And cook nice Chinese veggie dish as well. :P |
Teaching Experience: Some personal tutoring in Mandarin and guitar |
Tutoring Approach: 1. Using my versatility to make Chinese-learning easy and fun; 2. to share my experience and methods in language learning, in order to let students learn a new language more quickly. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."; 3. to make best use of online resources to make my teaching state-of-art; 4. to combine language learning and cultural tips. |

| Personal Description: I graduated from The University of Hull in June 2008, gaining a Bachelors Degree in Music where I specialised in Solo and Ensemble Performance. My final year dissertation focused soley on the different teaching styles which are implemented by music teachers, this inspired me to apply for a place on a Secondary PGCE course at The University of Hull. I believe that everyone has the right to learn, and that this is best done so in a non-pressurised environment. I am very enthusiastic about teaching and I realise the importance of education in all aspects of life. I already have an advanced CRB check, and I am extremely flexible with hours. I am well qualified to teach Maths, English, Science and Music. My fee is negotiable depending on individual circumstances. |
Teaching Experience: I mainly have experience of teaching music to children and adults, in the field of private brass instrumental and piano tuition, and with teaching primary and GCSE level mathematics to children and adults of all ages. Whilst studying for my degree I completed several teaching placements at schools which gave me insight to how subjects are taught in schools and how pupils react to different teaching styles. I would now like to tutor for other subjects such as English and Science as I believe these to be key to educational development. I am comfortable with tutoring people of all ages and abilities. I also have knowledge of specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia. More recently I have tutored two adult learners whom where studying for GCSE equivilency examinations, and tutored five year 11 pupils whom all gained A's and A*'s in their GCSE exxaminations (summer 09). |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is very relaxed and informal. I believe that it is essential to create a stimulating environment for study and that clear lesson objectives should be provided to the student. My aim is for the pupils to develop their own skills in the subject area. I use a range of different teaching skills which I adapt to suit the tutees individual needs, enabling me to explain concepts in a variety of different ways, to find the method that best suits each individual so that they gain as much as possible from the tutoring sessions. |

| Personal Description: I have much tuition and training experience. Having lived in Kent for most of my life, my wife and I moved to mid-Devon in late 2002. I am a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Scientist & Member of the Institute of Physics, and have held senior management positions in various British companies. I have a fundamental love of virtually all things mathematical and scientific, and very much enjoy passing on this enthusiasm in the form of increasing skills and ability to GCSE and 'A' Level students. I hold full and current CRB accreditation. |
Teaching Experience: I have been offering GCSE & 'A' Level tuition in Maths & Physics since 1997 In all my years of tutoring, I have never had a student fail an exam, and all my students have either achieved their targeted grades, or surpassed them. This academic year (2009/2010) I have been working regularly with nine GCSE Maths students, three 'A' Level Maths students, four 'A' Level Physics students, plus another four who call upon my services on an "ad hoc" or "as-required" basis. |
Tutoring Approach: I am an active participant in, and supporter of, the whole education process; and have also held a four year LEA Governorship at a school in mid-Devon. My approach to tutoring is, first of all, to talk openly with any potential student (ideally with parent or guardian present) in order to find out what is required, the problems, issues etc. I treat all students as adults, and do not patronise or talk down to them, ie treating each one as an individual. My aim is to work closely with each student, in the way that best suits him/her, in order to empower him/her with higher levels of knowledge and ability. The result being that their confidence and skill levels increase to those necessary to achieve the best possible grades. I encourage my students to actively participate in the tutoring process, to challenge, and to ask questions and discuss all aspects of the work content. I coach all my students in exam techniques, with emphasis on layout, showing working, best use of time etc. Last, but certainly not least, I believe it to be of fundamental importance to work with all my students in complete confidence; before, during and after any tutoring involvement. |

| Personal Description: Dear Sir or Madam My name is Chris. (Krzysztof Pawilowski) I am experienced teacher of German and English is my second foreign language. I'm 30 and I'm hard working and enthusiastic. Since last June I am happy husband. I am reliable person and I am able to work in team. I also like new challenges and I can learn new things easily. I can learn fast. I speak two foreign languages. I still develop my own hobbies. I play guitar. I really like new experiences. That's why I moved to Scotland. |
Teaching Experience: Primary School position: German teacher (Poland) september 2004-august 2006 Private Language Centre september 2004-june 2005 FISCHER (Poland) |
Tutoring Approach: I have experience in teaching in Primary School. I do really know how much effortful the work with children is. I found the work with children the most challenging experience in my career paths. However, the children gave me indeed the most fun from teaching. You know... satisfaction of critical "customer" gives always more fun! I had the adults classes as well. I used to teach them with a special method. That for I had to go through a course preparing me for teaching with this method. This was method which is based on gesticulation and facial expression a lot. The large advantage of this method was using only the goal language. So the group people had always to answer in German. And it is not so hard! Because you are starting from the very easy things! |

Since I am a recent graduate (July 2009) and have experience in promoting both Further Education (sixth form/college) and Higher Education (university) to young people, I can also offer help and support to those considering furthering their studies after GCSEs. I am an enthusiastic, motivated and reliable individual with ample experience of working with young people from voluntary mentoring programmes to paid sessions in familiarising groups of school children with Higher Education. Since I am 21 years old I believe I am able to communicate well with young people and offer a different outlook on problems to that of a teacher. I look forward to hearing from you. |

| Personal Description: I am in the final year of a PhD in Neuroscience. I am incredibly enthusiastic about Neuroscience and Human Biology and in particular I am looking at the role of schizophrenia susceptibility genes in long-term memory. I'm 26. I organise neuroscience cafe's to explain neuroscience topics to people not studying biology at Cardiff University. |
Teaching Experience: I have completed a month long course on how to teach English as a second language and I have taught A-level biology in a secondary school in Kenya for 1 month. I have also taught three students at university undergraduate level for their biology laboratory based dissertation projects. |
Tutoring Approach: I will either work through particular chapters in school text books or alternatively tailor classes according to topics or general concepts that the tutee is interested in learning about from scratch or is having difficulty understanding. I always like to place new concepts in the bigger picture to maintain interest. In particular I can do lessons on how the brain works (as far we know so far!) for tutees of any age or any previous level of biological knowledge. |

| Personal Description: I am passionate about Geography! I believe it is THE subject that defines our era. This philosophy informs my approach to teaching vibrant, exciting student-friendly lessons in school and similar sessions in the tutoring experience. My pre-teaching background in both the media industry and working for a international non-governmental organisation have provided me with a wealth of case studies and experiences that bring to life my teaching and tutoring. I completed my degree only two years ago, so my knowledge base, specialising in the human and environmental geographies, is vast and up-to-date. |
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching in Watford's best state school for three years. Prior to this I was the director of education at an established UK children's charity. During my brief career to date I have been quick to establish myself as a dynamic, confident and compelling teacher. Improving all the time, my successful engagement with students is evidenced by over 70% take up of GCSE by my two year 9 groups, impressive GCSE results (all A*- C over two consecutive years) and excellent AS level results - average UMS around 90/100. I develop student-friendly resources that have been adopted across the department by other colleagues. I lead the department on many ICT-related developments. In this short time I have experienced a range of school activities - from organising field trips to form tutorship. Some quotes from my ongoing assessment: "JC was able to bring in a wide range of specific examples to complement both his and student's points" "You questioned and answered with confidence" "I watched you teaching this aspect of phys geog six months ago and there is no comparison between your confidence with the material then and now - very good" "Many of the facts came from pupils but Julian added much more and appeared very confident with the knowledge of the topic." |
Tutoring Approach: Now looking for clients for September 2010. A clean sweep of As and A* results for all my tutees in 2010 - Well done them! For some students, gaining confidence with many of the concepts and ideas presented in geography at Key Stage 4 or 5 is difficult - especially considering the pressures of coursework, ongoing assessment and the natural workload provided by other subjects. Yet these concepts underpin much of the reality that geography deals with. I have worked successfully with boys and girls at GCSE, AS and A2 level over the last two years, raising attainment in all cases. My approach to tutoring is to enthuse the often overwhelmed student first and foremost with 'real', accessible geography. By using interactive ICT-based resources and practical assessment tools such as course guides, question mark schemes and exemplar work, the student can access previously hard-to-grasp material, and gain a critical understanding of the assessment process. My belief is that you would not attempt to fix a car without instructions. I help the student interpret the manual to their course so they themselves can get behind the wheel and drive to success! |
