| Personal Description: I am a Senior Software Engineer working for one of the largest software services company. I am currently working for a software project with RBS. I have completed my engineering in Computers. I have a strong analytical mind. I am good at numbers. Teaching is one of my closest passions and I would love to extend my services. |
Teaching Experience: I have being teaching Maths and Science (up to Graduation level) in my spare time for the last 16 years. I have also taught to a group of children in a school (for charity). I think I have the aptitude, skills and personality to teach students and take them to a higher level. |
Tutoring Approach: We all are different. Different children follow different learning curve. Normally in schools, children are being treated with the same yardstick which is not correct. I try to understand the grasping power of the children and adapt the techniques accordingly. I strongly believe that the attitude and enthusiasm for a subject is the key to success. It is important not to focus solely on exams and to develop knowledge for personal development and improvement. I have got both the experience - industry experience and teaching experience. So, I can easily connect with the practical usage of the topic I am teaching. My pedagogy is more practical. I also try to put an element of humour in my teaching, which makes my technique different from others. |

| Personal Description: I am an enthusiastic, proactive tutor who thrives on helping others achieve their potential within a safe, positive, fun learning environment. Recent school-based teaching experience covers 11-19yrs with pastoral duties and teaching observation in primary school. I offer Music and Business studies and have enjoyed assisting with Key Stage 3 ICT, French and English. With a degree in Music, I have experience playing in orchestras, windbands, chamber groups, contemporary and folk groups, singing, african drumming. My 15 year career covers working for a small rapidly expanding business, running my own business and working for the water and environment sector of a global corporation. |
Teaching Experience: My strength lies in small group or 1:1 tutoring. Prior to taking my PGCE I have 17 years experience of teaching music privately to all levels, for example 1:1 tutoring for those taking oboe, flute, singing, theory grades or A'level, and coaching small groups of students who simply want to learn to play an instrument. This also helps reduce costs. My PGCE included a Business Diploma enhancement with shadowing of GCSE and BTech Business studies to draw on my varied business experience to enhance the learning of others. During my career I have been involved in training at different levels for example presenting Personal Development training sessions to team members, supervising and training students from Eastern Europe and training graduates in India. I spent last summer teaching English to primary children and adults. I am now formalising this experience with the Cert.TESOL. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach is friendly, informal and fun while enabling students to work at their own pace. By helping students set realistic targets students remain more focused and challenged in their learning whilst being encouraged by achieving. During a tutor session the emphasis is on student led learning to encourage students to 'think outside of the box' and broaden their own approach to learning. My philosophy is to help them help themselves. I simply want to enthuse, inspire and guide students to build their confidence and skills so they are motivated to achieve and be the best they can be. A session will often start with a reflection on what they already know about a subject to develop thought processes. Knowledge is developed through practical application, developing relevant skills and exploring the wider context through various activities. Whatever the subject students need to understand the relevance of what they are learning. Sessions end with reflection to reinforce learning. For those studying for GCSE/ A'Levels / Diplomas I offer rigorous exam technique, revision guidance and practice. I had a superb tutor who helped me pass my 11+ which built my confidence and is a reason why I wish to help others. I recognise the value of a patient and understanding tutor whom you can trust to help you achieve at your own pace, particularly in a more challenging subject where you may have fallen behind. |

| Personal Description: I am currently studying for my A-Levels at the Lady Eleanor Holles School in Hampton and I have a place to study Law at Oxford University next year. I am currently studying Maths, English, History and Physics and got 6 As at AS Level. I got 10 A*s at GCSE in Maths, English Literature, English Language, French, German, Latin, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and History. I am available throughout the summer (10th - 24th July and 8th August - 10th October) for additional help for GCSE and below, especially for those who wish to bridge the gap to starting GCSEs. (I will also be helping my younger sister over the summer as she is at the same stage!) |
Teaching Experience: I am currently tutoring two pupils for their GCSEs in maths and physics and have been tutoring a Junior School pupil for around 5 years. I also enjoy volunteering at Carlisle Infant School and at my local Girl Guides. |
Tutoring Approach: I aim to always encourage students to think for themselves and work out the problems using my guidance rather than just gave them the answers. Having done my GCSEs only a few years ago I know exactly what the examiners are looking for and can really help with exam technique. I also have lots of past exam questions which I used myself as well as textbooks and revsion guides to help your child learn and revise |

| Personal Description: I am a 29 year old researcher at the Macaulay Institute in Aberdeen. I work in the ecology research group and my main area of interest is natural resource management I am able to tutor confidently on environmental science, ecology, geography and to some extent, biology. I have a BSc in Geography and an MSc in Environmental Science. I have a good knowledge of contemporary global issues. |
Teaching Experience: I have spent time teaching environmental education both in the UK and in Brazil where I worked at a forest research centre for 2 years. I also have a Teaching English as a Foreign Language Cetificate and I spent 6 months working as an English teacher in Rio de Janeiro with children aged 5-16 at a community centre in a favela. |
Tutoring Approach: I love to help children learn and help to build their confidence. I think independent learning is good, but also to give encouragement and to listen to children's needs. I am patient and also believe in making learning fun, so with environmental things, hands on is sometimes best, but of course taking full notice of health and safety. I also believe visualisation and creativity are good means of teaching. Visual tools such as maps, audio-visual displays etc can be very effective teaching aids. Also allowing children to develop their imaginations and artistic skills through painting, writing and construction are key. |

| Personal Description: I am a second year dental student at the University of Dundee, and live in Glasgow during the holidays. In addition to studying for my BDS dental degree, I intend to complete an intercalated Bachelors degree next year, in either anatomy or microbiology. I have been employed previously as a summer student working for the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service, researching new methods of typing blood. I am enthusiastic about working with people who want to learn and people of any age who may be considering applying to study medicine, dentistry or science based courses at University. |
Teaching Experience: I have informally helped to prepare relatives and students at school and university for examinations and am enthusiastic and patient. In the last four years I have sat standard grades, highers, A Levels, Advanced Highers, the UKCAT entrance exam for medical and dental applicants and seminars on interview technique. The application procedure to higher education can be stressful and complicated, especially for prospective medical and dental students, not to mention highly competitive. I can use my experiences to give applicants an edge and encourage their confidence in their own abilities, whether it is boosting a grade in a national exam or offering advice for a stand-out personal statement. I also tutor students entering life science/ medical and dental courses on how to adapt to the different methods of learning at University and, by teaching core subjects, help take the pressure out of the first year of study. |
Tutoring Approach: I have always seen myself as more of a peer to the student, as opposed to an authority figure, and believe that is a much more effective way of communicating as there is less formality, which can be a barrier to communication. Also, having sat the SQA and Ed-excel examinations (Highers, A Levels etc.) recently I have a very intimate knowledge of the course content and access to resources which are up to date. In addition to this I believe exam technique is crucial to achieving top grades and should be integrated into lessons, something which I feel is overlooked by many teachers. |

| Personal Description: I left teaching about 3 years ago after establishing and running the A Level course, which had up to 80 students at any one time, for 10 years. I'm married and we have recently moved from London to Piddinghoe, just outside Peacehaven, 6 miles from Lewes and Brighton. I have started a return to taking photographs for myself now that I don't spend every working hour encouraging and inspiring others in a full time job. I prefer to use the skills I have to work with individuals or small groups. I love the medium and love helping others to appreciate what it is and what it can do... and how they too can enjoy it. |
Teaching Experience: 10 years as Course Leader in A Level Photography for the LaSWAP 6th Form Consortium, based in Parliament Hill School, Camden, London. 2 years running an adult evening class. |
Tutoring Approach: The first session would be just a chat to see where you are and what you hope to get out of this. I am not a technical whizz and won't bombard you with too much jargon, although I have a fair knowledge of both digital and 'traditional' methods - I don't emphasise this side of things except as a means to an end. But sometimes you really are better off knowing your aperture and speed controls and what the camera can do when it's not on automatic - it allows you more control, more creativity and more possibilities. We can take things at your pace as necessary, depending on what you want to achieve. The emphasis must be on enjoyment otherwise it becomes a chore. I would hope that your interests would lead us: if you like sport, let's learn about photography by photographing that, if it's gardening, well let's see what grows out of that! |

| Personal Description: I am a first year student at the University of York, currently studying for a degree in Biology. I am a patient person who enjoys helping teach people things they struggle to understand. |
Teaching Experience: Only casual experience at school helping people in the same class with retakes in Maths. When I was in 6th form I helped GCSE students with Maths and Science. |
Tutoring Approach: I tend to follow the textbooks until there is a problem when I try to word the issue differently or explain in a manner more suited to the child's learning style. People have previously said that I am patient and good at explaining. |

| Personal Description: "I love Romeo and Juliet", and that's down to you." It was this comment, and a young girl, who inspired me to want to teach the 11 plus age group. She was studying for her English GCSE through the method of home schooling, and I regularly tutored her for at least four hours a week. It was hugely inspiring for me to see a young girl who had lost all her confidence through being bullied at school, becoming someone who was beginning to love education and learning again. I began to realize that teaching at that level is not only rewarding, but if you teach well, you could be an inspiration to someone. I was personally inspired to teach by my own experiences at school; in particular by my Math's and Drama teachers. Above all they treated me as an individual, encouraging me to achieve my personal best. In Drama, our teacher's enthusiasm and commitment motivated us to produce A grade presentations. In Math's, a subject that I did not enjoy initially, my tutor used his sense of humour to teach us tricks and mnemonics to make learning interesting. Both were approachable and friendly and their honesty encouraged a sense of openness in the classroom. This is the type pf tutor I feel I am. I want pupils to feel that they can ask me anything, and to know that they will leave thier tutoring session having learnt something new and having felt inspired and to be enthusiastic in returning. |
Teaching Experience: I have experienced the classroom environment myself. For three years, I helped in a school every week, working with children from the ages of 5-11. Although I enjoyed my experience of working with young children, it was enough for me to realize that primary children would not stretch me in the way I wanted. Working with such young children would not allow me to teach what I enjoy the most, literature. I want to teach English or literature to the depth at which it becomes the most interesting and enlightening. I would hope to give my students a sense of the background and history from which literature was produced and lead them to an understanding and appreciation of the English language. English is a subject that teaches you something new everyday, it is also a subject where the pupils can teach you too. Everyone has different interpretations of a text, and this idea of continuously learning whilst I am teaching excites me the most and means that teaching will always be a great career. I experienced this level of excitement when I completed a short course at Rushcroft secondary school, giving presentations about teenage issues to year 9 SEN students.I am now developing my skills even further by working at a secondary girls school, La Sainte Union, where I am working as a learning support assistant. Here I am working with the English department, where I have so far been involved with all the different years(year 7-11), taught, and discussed a range of texts, from pre 20th century novels like 'Great Expectations' and am helping students write GCSE coursework on Shakespeare's Macbeth. My job role requires me to work with SEN students as well as being a general classroom assistant, and this has taught me a lot. For instance,I have enjoyed working with the same students every day as it gives me a chance to get to know each pupil and their needs. |
Tutoring Approach: Due to my enthusiasm, I believe that I will be a dedicated tutor and having observed the heavy workload first hand, I think my efficiency and organisation will help. Tutoring would give me the opportunity to acquire new skills and develop those I already have, in order to become a good tutor. I believe being patient and enthusiastic is the key to being a successful tutor. I have learnt from previous expereinces that every child needs to be approached and taugh differently. 'Every child matters', and therefore we should look at all pupils as individual learners and cater tho thier needs in the best possible way that suits them. |
