Personal Description:
I am 30 years of age and live in Edinburgh. At present, I am currently employed as a Primary 1 teacher within West Lothian Council. I studied Law at the University of Dundee and qualified as a Solicitor in 2002. I decided to re-train as a teacher and completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Education at the University of Edinburgh in 2006.

I enjoy running and going to the gym. I have a passion for music, can play the piano, enjoy singing and have sung for the National Youth Choir of Scotland.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience working with children. I worked in a playgroup setting for 2 years and also as a learning assistant for the City of Edinburgh Council. After graduating as a teacher from the University of Edinburgh in 2006, I have been employed by West Lothian Council since the commencement of my probationary year.
I have been teaching for approximately four years and have taught the following classes: P1, P2 and P7/6. During my student and probationary year, I taught all primary stages and therefore have a wide experience of teaching different ages and stages.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a firm but fair approach to discipline within class and always expect the best from my pupils. I maintain a young and relaxed approach to teaching whilst striving for high standards within my class. I ask that children always try their best even if they find a task challenging. I am very open to new ideas and ask the children in my class to come to me should they find a concept difficult to understand. I try to break concepts down for children and to work from a point at which they understand. From there, I then go on to explain misconceptions and help them learn. Using a variety of approaches and resources can often help break learning barriers and I also find knowing children's particular learning style helps me to adapt my teaching approach to assist learning.

Personal Description:
My name is Mandy Clarke, i'm 22 and a bass guitarist. I've been playing for around 7 years and studied Popular Music for three years at Jewel and Esk Valley College. Personal Description:
I am 28 and have been playing guitar for 13 years. I am interested in all styles of music but for my own work i concentrate on instrumental rock/blues. I am working on my own guitar based album and also write music for film and media projects which can require various styles of music. I have recently gained an honours degree in music performance and composition and have since studied with Hollywood film composer Hummie Mann.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught a few people who are currently writing their own material, but have no experience at an official level.

Tutoring Approach:

my approach is simple and effective. I believe that there are too many people teaching theoretical music principles to students which put many people off from taking lessons in the first place. I teach people the fundamental techniques of guitar playing so that they can focus on being more creative with the instrument rather than following theoretical rules which i believe at an early stage can confuse the student and make them feel less motivated to learn. I think learning an instrument does take discipline, especially to learn the techniques involved, but when practising becomes boring, the learning process slows and progress is minimal. My method allows the student to explore the instrument in their own way. My job is to teach the skills they need to be able to achieve what they want on guitar.

Teaching will take place at my house as i have a mini studio which will be used as part of the lesson structure.

Personal Description:
I am a graduate in Chemistry. I am native from Mexico but I have lived in an English speaking country for more than 3 years. I am currently living in Edinburgh and saving some money for my next step in my career which is to study a PhD in Chemistry. I am responsible, hardworking, friendly and very organised. I love both Sciences and Teaching.

Teaching Experience:

I have two years of experience in teaching Spanish to kids (7-12 years old), for whom I tailored my lessons to perfectly fit their needs and interests in order to make it both educational and really fun. One of the greatest satisfactions of this experience was when one of my students took a Spanish exam and got into an advanced level thanks to my sessions. I also worked two full years as a teaching assistant in general and organic chemistry laboratories during my Chemistry Master's Degree at Wake Forest University. I was in charge not only of the preparation of material for the laboratory, but also of the tutoring of students in the theory of the experiments during and after the sessions. I was also in charge of grading reports and exams. The main satisfaction of this job was the opportunity to have an influence in the interest of students towards science.

Tutoring Approach:

Above all, I always try to empathise with the person I am tutoring, this brings me much closer to the needs of my students. I always plan my classes ahead and put as much thought as I possibly can to make the session both interesting and efficient. I try to motivate my students and improve the quality not only of the subject knowledge but also of the learning tools. I have realised that throughout teaching and tutoring I achieve the most profound need of my heart which is to serve others, and I am always willing to serve with the best of my abilities.

Personal Description:
PROFESSIONAL Italian native speaker, with broadened experience in teaching to foreigners.
Well, i guess that being of African background and having Italian as mother tongue, could be a case of curiosity. Although i am currently undertaking a join honours degree (computer science and mathematics), in my free time, i love tutoring. In fact, I believe that knowledge is everything. Hence, the opportunity to share it with others is highly gratifying. As i am a (mature) student myself, i appreciate it even more! Therefore, the more i can contribute to others with my "expertise", the more personal rewarding it is.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching Italian for a few years now. Love it!

Tutoring Approach:

I like to keep my students "active" to the class. That is, high participation from them is often encouraged. Lessons are indeed very communicative, with logical reasoning being the most regarded method. Approaches vary with students/students needs, so does the material. However, it's always prepared in advance (may have some little variations in practical), plus lots (when needed) of examples, real life situations, and/or personal experience.

Personal Description:
I am a fourth year Maths with Education student at Heriot-Watt University. I currently live in Edinburgh and I do have access to a car. I would like to gain more experience of teaching and tutoring as I feel it would be beneficial.

Teaching Experience:

I have currently worked in three schools as part of my university course

Alness Academy: August - September 2006
Oxgangs Primary School: November 2007 - March 2008
Craigmount High School: August - September 2008

I have also tutored 5 other pupils before. Two of these pupils were people I knew from school, and the other three were people I worked with last year. I currently have one student who I have been with for 7 months.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that at the start of each session it is important for the pupils to know exactly what they are going to be doing that session and then at the end of the session the pupil can evaluate for themselves if we have reached the goal. I also feel it is important for the pupil to feel like we are a team and not teacher and pupil. I found that in the past this has helped the pupil feel like we are sharing our knowledge.

Personal Description:
I am an electrical engineering consultant with a degree in electronics and electrical engineering from The University of Edinburgh. I have previously worked as an electronics design engineer for satellite communications systems and as a college tutor in Wallace College, Edinburgh.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored many students during the past five years, both privately and in classes at Wallace College. I have also worked as an instructor at Acrobounce Scotland, which is a high energy outdoor activity for children and I develop good relationships with the students who I teach.

Tutoring Approach:

Once I have established the strengths and weaknesses of the student, I tailor the content of the tutorials to suit the needs of that student. In maths and physics it is important for the student to have a clear understanding of the basic ideas and principles of the subjects, this is where we will start. Once the basic concepts are understood, the tutorials will have a bias toward exam technique and preparing for the final exam. This has proven to be a very effective method of boosting grades in my own exams and in those of my previous students. I have many years experience sitting examinations myself and have lots of advice in how to prepare for and perform well on the big day.
