Personal Description:
I am a French citizen and was raised in France. I have a French Baccalaureate (Baccalaurat A1 French and Mathematics). I achieved highly in the International option of the Baccalaurat, which involved an exam in English Literature and History/Geography set by the Cambridge Board of Examinations. I studied German to A- level which I used to teach German at a basic level during my PGCE.
Following my Baccalaurat in France I moved to England to study politics at Newcastle University, in what is my second language.
In 2004, after working as a teaching language assistant, I completed a PGCE in MFL which expanded and strengthened my working knowledge of French as a foreign language. The PGCE course provided me with a good grounding in pedagogical methods and working knowledge of language learning, qualifying me to work in England as an MFL teacher.

Teaching Experience:

Following my PGCE I taught in a very challenging secondary school in Hartlepool as a French supply teacher for 9 months. During this time I passed an Ofsted inspection and, as a member of staff contributed to the school being taken out of special measures. My practical experience as a French Teacher further consolidated my language teaching skills. I completed two terms of my NQT year and went on to do supply teaching throughout the North East.
I have also taught adults at the Centre for Lifelong Learning at Sunderland University in Newcastle where I tailored my teaching materials and methods for adult learning and emphasised the cultural aspect of teaching languages. This was well received by my students and was a very rewarding professional experience. This has helped further my understanding of the workings of language acquisition, and the motivations for learning languages. I believe this varied practical experience is an asset which is not easily given an academic equivalence!

Tutoring Approach:

I am currently giving French lessons to adults on a freelance basis, and working as a translator and interpreter. I remain constantly in touch with my cultural roots in France, as my family still live there and I return for regular visits. As a teacher, this gives me a unique perspective on French life, access to a range of materials and an authenticity which I have found pupils to be receptive to. As a French native speaker, I provide a bridge between language learning and real life experience which I think is an important part of the provision for languages. I believe that making foreign languages a living subject, spoken and lived by millions of people, provides an important motivational factor for students.
I have strong experience of teaching in a range of educational settings and have an extremely rounded skill set. I have taught a range of subjects and have developed a diverse portfolio of resources for use in the classroom. I am accomplished at producing creative learning programmes, activities, work sheets and games.
I have strong communication skills, which have been the bedrock of my career to date. In my work as a teacher I have constantly demonstrated good interpersonal and communication skills. I have the ability to motivate through enthusiasm, and a good understanding of client's needs is central to my approach! I am dynamic and enthusiastic in my teaching, and feel most at home bringing new subjects to others. Feedback from my adult education classes has always been positive about my teaching style, and my supervisors have always been pleased with my work and my team spirit.

Personal Description:
Dear Sir or Madam

My name is Chris. (Krzysztof Pawilowski)

I am experienced teacher of German and English is my second foreign language. I'm 30 and I'm hard working and enthusiastic. Since last June I am happy husband. I am reliable person and I am able to work in team. I also like new challenges and I can learn new things easily.

I can learn fast. I speak two foreign languages. I still develop my own hobbies. I play guitar. I really like new experiences. That's why I moved to Scotland.

Teaching Experience:

Primary School
position: German teacher (Poland) september 2004-august 2006

Private Language Centre september 2004-june 2005
FISCHER (Poland)

Tutoring Approach:

I have experience in teaching in Primary School. I do really know how much effortful the work with children is. I found the work with children the most challenging experience in my career paths. However, the children gave me indeed the most fun from teaching. You know... satisfaction of critical "customer" gives always more fun!
I had the adults classes as well. I used to teach them with a special method. That for I had to go through a course preparing me for teaching with this method. This was method which is based on gesticulation and facial expression a lot. The large advantage of this method was using only the goal language. So the group people had always to answer in German. And it is not so hard! Because you are starting from the very easy things!

Personal Description:
I am a postgraduate student at The University of Edinburgh studying for a Master's degree in Philosophy with a specialization in Mind, Language and Embodied Cognition. I have a First Class degree from The University of Kent in English Literature and Film Studies.

Teaching Experience:

I worked full-time as a Teaching Assistant last academic year (September 08 to July 09) at an inner-city secondary school in London. Whilst there, I provided one-to-one tuition to a broad range of students. I worked with a number of GCSE English students on their coursework for the subject. I successfully applied the training I had received at the school in Direct Phonics -- an approach that focuses on improving a reader's ability to match the most basic sounds of spoken English to there written counterparts -- to students with severe and mild reading difficulties. I also provided classroom assistance in English, Math's, Science, History, Geography and Religious Education.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring naturally varies from student to student. For a student who is bright and articulate but is not achieving the results they are capable of because of a difficulty expressing their ideas in written form, my standard approach is to focus primarily on the set of essay writing skills relevant to their examination criteria (GCSEs, A Levels, Scottish Highers, etc). These include, understanding and thinking critically about essay questions, the level of detail appropriate for a given question, how to structure arguments, how to translate ideas into succinct written descriptions, etc. On the other hand, if a student does possess good essay writing skills but finds it difficult to formulate ideas or think creatively about the subject -- or who simply wants to explore more advanced concepts in the area -- then I find that challenging conversations and brainstorming exercises are the most effective strategies for developing their understanding.

For students with severe reading and writing difficulties I take a basic skill based approach. Helping improve their reading ability and expand their vocabulary through direct phonics training (as mentioned above) and/or working with them to construct basic phrases and sentences.

Personal Description:
I am a French native speaker.
I have lived in England for 5 years where I worked as a French Assistant and as a Language Teacher after having obtained my teaching degree. I have moved to Edinburgh recently.

I would describe myself as enthusiastic, creative and hard working

I love discovering new places and learning new languages.
I love going out with my friends, going to the cinema (especially asian movies)

Teaching Experience:

From October 2001 until May 2003 I was a French assistant in secondary schools in Doncaster, South Yorkshire. I helped pupils to improve their spoken French.

From September 2004 until August 2006, I taught in a secondary school in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. I taught French and Spanish to pupils aged 11 to 18.
I enjoyed teaching the smaller ones because they are very enthusiastic about learning someting new. However, I prefer GCSE and A-Levels as they have more vocabulary and therefore it is easier to have a conversation with them.

I have been a supply teacher for Languages in Edinburgh since April 2007.I have worked in various schools.

I am currently tutoring 13 and 11 year old pupils who feel that they don't learn enough at school.

Tutoring Approach:

my tutoring depends on the needs of the tutee.
Some people need to improve their spoken skills whereas some can spek a good level of French but might need more grammatical practice.

I do the tutoring only speaking French. It might seem scary but my previous tutees found it very useful because they got used to the words.

I have several textbooks some for beginners, some for more advanced levels.
I create my own resources as well.

I usually practise the 4 skills : listening, speaking, reading and writing but again if the tutee want to concentrate on only one I can do that as well.

Personal Description:
I am 26 years old and am passionate about the importance of language learning. At a time when the numbers of students studying a language nationwide is decreasing, I believe that it is extremely important to make people aware of the benefits which language learning can bring.

I enjoy travelling in Europe and have spent time living and working in France, Germany and Austria, where I was able to develop my linguistic skills and experience and appreciate different cultures.

In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching foreign films and playing tennis and golf.

Teaching Experience:

Since the beginning of September I have been tutoring French and German at an independent college in Edinburgh where I teach both the Scottish Higher and the English A Level courses. My class sizes are very small, with a maximum of two students in a class.

I also have experience of undertaking teaching placements in three secondary schools in Scotland, where I was able to observe various teaching practices and develop my own teaching style.

Additionally, I have valuable experience (approximately 17 months in total) of teaching English in Austria and Germany, which enabled me to observe different education systems and to compare the teaching styles of Britain with these countries.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that it is important to identify the specific needs of the student and to concentrate on these during a lesson. I try to prepare dynamic lessons which encourage the student to have a genuine interest in the language and to maintain and develop this interest. This will enable to student to be motivated and achieve a better standard of work.

I am also a big believer in adding a cultural element to a lesson wherever possible so that the student can learn about the country(ies) where their chosen language is spoken and not simply learn the language without any cultural awareness. In my opinion the cultural dimension enriches the language learning process.

Personal Description:
I am French, and I have lived in Scotland since September 2002. I am currently studying osteopathy in Oxford, but I have had many teaching jobs along the way. I love languages, and do very much enjoy passing on the knowledge I have on my mother tongue :)

Teaching Experience:

I have done almost any possible way of teaching French, from private tuition to adults, young adults to teaching bilingual 5 year old children. This year I had a class of 8 to 10 year old at La Petite Ecole in Edinburgh, which is an after school club created by l'institut francais. This summer I am working for the Language Room in Linlithgow (near Edinburgh), to teach children from age 3 to 11. About two years ago, I had my own teaching class for adult beginners. Finally, I have done the odds private tuition along the way, for mainly adults and secondary school students.

Tutoring Approach:

Considering my background in teaching, I will always adapt and tailor the lesson to what the student requires. I am not following any specific program. Depending on the needs, the student(s) and I set up the desired goals at the beginning, then we work towards them, adapting/reassessing along the way the lessons depending on how the student(s) respond(s) to such and such methods. I have a fair amount a material now that I have accumulated over the years, and I just have to use some old favorites or create some new, more updated exercise as it goes. "Always a pleasure, never a chore" :)

Personal Description:
I am currently in third year studying Mathematics at Edinburgh University. I thoroughly enjoy Maths and would love to help students at all levels get to grips with a subject that is often difficult to grasp.

Teaching Experience:

At school I tutored many of my friends who were studying for their Highers. I have also tutored my younger brother and his friends from Standard Grade through to Advanced Higher.

These students have had a varied understanding of Maths and I have been able to deal with and help each of them pass their exams.

I am still very familiar with Maths at school level having only left three years ago. Being at university also means I am familiar with exam situations and learning. At school I had a very good Maths teacher and I would like to pass on the clever methods I learnt from him.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best way to pass a Maths exam is to have a good understanding of the basics. A lot of exams are written as to make the question seem harder than it is. This way the pupil can break down the questions and attempt every one in the exam.

The best way to teach Maths, I feel, is by example and by doing questions the pupil has struggled with will teach them how to do it in the future by themselves. Therefore it is best if the pupil has a particular section of Maths they are having difficulty with. This way they have questions they struggled with in class or from their homework.

Towards exam time I feel the best method to revision is to attempt previous exam papers so the pupil is familiar with the type and style of questions.

Personal Description:
I am a native Spanish speaker and I have a Bachelor's Degree and a Licenciatura (Licenciate Degree - roughly equivalent to a Master's Degree) in Spanish Philology. The main focus of my degrees was Spanish language, literature and linguistics. Courses I studied included Spanish Language, Spanish Grammar, Latin American Literature, Linguistics and Semiotics.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught Spanish as a Foreign Language full time since 2001, both in my home country, Costa Rica, and in Egypt. I have taught adults and young learners ranging in levels from complete beginner (A1) to advanced (C2 according to the Council of Europe framework). I have also taught students preparing for the Diploma en Espaol como Lengua Extranjera Superior. I recently completed a course at the Instituto Cervantes in Cairo in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, which focussed on communicative language teaching and using a deductive approach. I am committed to communicative language teaching and encourage students at all levels to actively use the language they are learning through communicative activities and conversation practice. I have taught both general Spanish classes (focussing on language skills and systems) and conversation classes (focussing on communication and vocabulary development). At the Costa Rican Language Academy, I was involved in developing conversation classes for students.

I have taught undergraduates and students at tertiary level since 2000. I have taught a range of courses related to language, literature, linguistics and critical theory, including Morphology, Phonetics and Phonology, Grammar, Spanish Literature and Latin American Literature. Many of the courses I gave were compulsory courses leading to a Bachelor's degree in teaching Spanish in secondary schools in Costa Rica.

Tutoring Approach:

Most of the classes I have given have been face-to-face classes. However, I also have experience of teaching online and at a distance. I have recently completed a course with the Instituto Cervantes in teaching online and at a distance. In my current job, I regularly use informatin and communication technology to faciliate learning, by using an online virtual learning environment with my students. In this 'virtual classroom', students use online, audio-visual materials as learning tools, which helps develop their learner autonomy.

I have worked with students from diverse educational, cultural and work backgrounds. In my role as a teacher of Spanish as a foreign language, I have worked with students from many different nationalities and cultural backgrounds, which taught me good oral and written communication skills. In my work with undergraduates in Costa Rica, I worked with students from a wide range of educational and work backgrounds. Some of my students came from disadvantaged backgrounds and had little experience of studying literature or literary theory. Often, my students did not have a lot of experience of university level education, so they did not know how to write essays or have good study skills. I helped them to develop their study skills and essay writing, for example, showing them how to organise an essay, how to write a bibliography, how to do research and background reading into the subjects. I have also taught courses in Writing, focusing on academic writing. These courses have also enabled me to develop good written communication skills. Through this work, I have been committed to equal opportunities practices, ensuring that education is available to all.

When I worked in Costa Rica, I regularly travelled to the tutorial centres of the universities where I worked to give tutorials, and was available and accessible to students.

Personal Description:
I am a third year Mathematics student at The University of Edinburgh and I will be graduating at the end of this year. I am very interested in taking my teaching career further after I graduate, and I see this as an excellent opportunity to gain further experience, and provide quality tutoring to ensure the success of the tutee. In addition I also provide University tuition but for 1st year students only. And I provide couching for the Oxford Cambridge OCR Mathematics STEP entrance examination papers for July 2008

Teaching Experience:

I have relevant Mathematics experiance through helping out 1st year economics students at my university.

Tutoring Approach:

First and foremost, I am determined to ensure the Tutee has fully understood all the main concepts required to ensure success for exams at School/College.

I feel firstly it's important to find out the progress and the standard of the Tutee to ensure I'm not explaining things that is already known. But more importantly, the things which the Tutee is struggling with. My main approach begins usually by explaining a lot of concepts in broad strokes to begin with by using appropriate analogies, this is followed by some examples. I will usually set questions after and check that the Tutee understands my teaching.

I also provide relevent teaching aids such as revision guilds and past papers.

Personal Description:
I am 30 years of age and live in Edinburgh. At present, I am currently employed as a Primary 1 teacher within West Lothian Council. I studied Law at the University of Dundee and qualified as a Solicitor in 2002. I decided to re-train as a teacher and completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Education at the University of Edinburgh in 2006.

I enjoy running and going to the gym. I have a passion for music, can play the piano, enjoy singing and have sung for the National Youth Choir of Scotland.

Teaching Experience:

I have extensive experience working with children. I worked in a playgroup setting for 2 years and also as a learning assistant for the City of Edinburgh Council. After graduating as a teacher from the University of Edinburgh in 2006, I have been employed by West Lothian Council since the commencement of my probationary year.
I have been teaching for approximately four years and have taught the following classes: P1, P2 and P7/6. During my student and probationary year, I taught all primary stages and therefore have a wide experience of teaching different ages and stages.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a firm but fair approach to discipline within class and always expect the best from my pupils. I maintain a young and relaxed approach to teaching whilst striving for high standards within my class. I ask that children always try their best even if they find a task challenging. I am very open to new ideas and ask the children in my class to come to me should they find a concept difficult to understand. I try to break concepts down for children and to work from a point at which they understand. From there, I then go on to explain misconceptions and help them learn. Using a variety of approaches and resources can often help break learning barriers and I also find knowing children's particular learning style helps me to adapt my teaching approach to assist learning.
