Personal Description:
I've loved Mathematics from as long as I can remember and I enjoy teaching it and tutoring others. I have studied Maths up to PhD level and so am comfortable teaching all levels of Maths. I am friendly and spend time to help my tutees understand the fundamental concepts which they need for problem solving so that they can be successful in applying this knowledge in their exams.

Teaching Experience:

I was a teaching assistant at Strathclyde University for 4 years. In that time, I lectured Mathematics to first and second year University students, organised and supervised tutorial sessions, set and marked assignments/exams and tutored students on a one-to-one basis. I have also tutored my friend's kids who were home schooled and marked work which their parents didn't have the knowledge to mark.
Also have a PGDE(S) in Mathematics and currently teaching within the new curriculum.
Been involved in secondary school teaching since 2011 and currently teach in a private school in Glasgow.

Tutoring Approach:

I find that the most effective way of mastering concepts/tricks is the hands-on approach. So I work with my tutees particularly in areas where they are weak until they have mastered the underlying concept/approach and are able to apply it on their own to similar problems. I am patient and work with you to help you use the knowledge you already have by approaching material from a different angle to what you've maybe been shown.

I have an MA in Classical Philology and Russian Studies from the University of St Petersburg and am qualified to teach Russian, French, English and Latin. Since graduating in 1978 I have worked extensively in language teaching and translation / interpreting. I have also worked in France for 3 years and attended an interpreting school in Paris (ISIT - Institut Superieur d' Interpretation et de Traduction). I also hold a Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI in Law) issued by the Chartered Institute of Linguists and am a member of the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI) and of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIL).

Tutoring Approach:

I do my best to give the student a good grounding in grammar which is a key to understanding and fluency whatever the language. I encourage students to listen to radio programmes in the target language, watch newsreports on television etc as it is a great learning tool. I feel passionate about languages myself and find teaching highly enjoyable.

I am a final year medical student studying at Imperial College London. I achieved two academic distinctions(top 20%) in pre-clinical studies. I achieved grade A for all my A level subjects which are biology, chemistry, maths and AS psychology and physics, as well as A* for GCSE maths, science, Mandarin.

Teaching Experience:

I have 5-year tutoring experience and have tutored numerous students GCSE Maths with various exam boards with success.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that one of the problems students in school encounter is that the teachers tend to explain each aspect of knowledge using their preferred ways, which may not necessarily suit the student, as different students have different ways of learning. Moreover, due to the large number of students per class, not enough time and patience is devoted to individual students. Most teachers are not able to of explore the student's capability and understanding, merely passively pass on the knowledge followed by inefficient results. As a consequence, students come home without having acquired a thorough understanding of the knowledge learnt in class, and end up having to rigidly memorise the 'boring' facts, which are usually quickly forgotten. As a result students begin to view learning as a laborious and boring process which have no applicable values in the future.

My approach: Learning can be FUN!! Independent thinking and confidence is the key.

My approach in tutoring follows two steps: 1. explore the student's own preference in the means of learning 2. incorporate these means of learning in the tutoring process, so that the student can achieve a thorough understanding of the subject in a most efficient way. I also like to focus on encouraging the development of the student's interest in the subject as well as the ability to confidently apply the knowledge , because I believe that disinterest in learning stems from an insufficient understanding and a feeling of lack of control over the knowledge. Therefore, the more you understand and have command over the subject, the more you'll love the subject! (the sense of achievement comes not only from high grades, but every step of learning along the way!!)

From my experience teaching various students of a range of levels, no matter how much they dislike the subject initially, every question they solve on their own, from first principle, helps changing the way they view the subject and gaining more confidence.

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is Tamara. I have just completed a degree in Medical Microbiology and Virology, studying at the University of Warwick. In September 2015 I moved down to Brighton where I have since undertaken training to become a Midwife! I absolutely adore Midwifery - finding the balance between academics and interpersonal relationships. With a long history of science behind me (including a year spent working full time in IVF) I would love to continue my tutoring.

During my time at Warwick I successfully tutored three girls, one at GCSE level, and two at A level who both achieved the grades they needed to continue on to University. I am immensely proud of them both.

I have always have a great passion for Biology and Chemistry, and took them both along with Geography up to A2 level. I am a kind and enthusiastic tutor, and I hope to show all my students this though our time together. I have a very flexible working schedule, and am more than happy to drive to a client's house for tutoring.

Teaching Experience:

I have experience working as a mentor in my secondary school whilst in Sixth Form, to support the younger years. In addition to this I have run summer camps yearly for ages 4-16 and have worked and been responsible for groups of children and teenagers of all ages.

Currently, I am an Ementor for a group of 6 year 13 student, a job I received through working as a Student Ambassador at University. I have weekly online sessions with my students which are used to help them into higher education by talking about revision tips, helping them structure their coursework, and most recently talking through personal statements.

As mentioned above I have already tutored three girls. All three were arranged through UK Tutors.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a patient person and take the time to clearly explain things. I find that diagrams particularly help with understanding complex topics, as well as representing basic concepts that can be kept by the students as a solid grounding to a subject, and then elaborated on further in the future. With any new student I am keen for them to tell me particularly what they would like some assistance with and how best they feel they learn, so that over the first few sessions we can build a suitable style of teaching/learning to help the student in the way they feel comfortable with.

I have been teaching Latin in primary schools for two years as part of the 'Iris Project' which is designed to improve children's literacy through Latin. I have also been involved with a project called 'Ancient Languages in the Park' which teaches a variety of languages in open surroundings. Both these teaching experiences offer unique insights into teaching.

For my undergraduate degree I majored in Latin. As part of that degree I took a module specifically designed for Latin teachers. I have studied a variety of different teaching methods and I am passionate about finding the correct teaching approach for each individual student.

The direct approach is a grammar heavy approach which was commonly used until around 40 years ago when it fell out of fashion. This approach is once again making a comeback, especially since many native English speakers no longer know correct grammar.

In this approach you learn Latin through its grammar system whilst learning a great deal of English along the way. This method can be excellent for anyone who is still engaged in any form of study as it is certain to improve essay writing, verbal communication and article reading speeds.

The Reading Approach

This approach introduces students directly to a piece of text (primarily adapted) and allows them to begin translating right away. Grammar takes a back seat and is learned as it becomes necessary. Students of the reading method typically learn the language more slowly but are introduced to a wider array of literature and classical culture.

An MFL Approach

The 'Modern Foreign Language' approach is very popular at the moment especially when teaching children. It approaches Latin through puzzles, games, worksheets, texts and even songs. This approach to Latin teaching is incredibly new and I am pleased to be involve with the research aspect of it for 'Swansea University'.

This is a perfect approach for anyone, adult or child, that wants to Latin in a fun and intuitive way. You will not find this method being taught anywhere else online for adults.

Which Approach?

Each student is given a free, thirty minute lesson in which we can look at examples from the three different approaches and decide on the correct one for that student.

I have recently completed my undergraduate studies with a First in History at the university of Kent. I have always been committed to my academic career, being amongst the highest-attaining students at both school and university. I am a voracious reader of both fiction and non-fiction; aside from this I enjoy films, rugby union and competitive gaming.

I enjoy helping people to learn and develop, and would be happy to help tutees with specific exams or assignments, to provide more general advice on techniques and skills, help tutees achieve a deeper understanding of a subject or offering. I have experience of proofreading and editing at university level.

Teaching Experience:

I attended sixth-form at Chancellor's School in Brookmans Park, which ran a programme in which students assisted with the teaching of a lower-school class, as well as a "buddy system", where sixth-formers mentored and assisted 3 new students with transition to senior school.

At university I strove to take an active part in my education in both university-organised and extra-curricular activities. I was frequently commended for my contributions to seminars and I often joined study-groups on my own initiative, helping others with their understanding of the various courses and with exam technique. I also frequently aided other students by proof-reading and editing their essays and assignments, to help them better apply the technique and style that was needed to attain the highest grades.

I am the Vice-President of ISHA (the International Students of History Association). This organisation arranges events to bring history students from across Europe together; participants take part in workshops, presenting papers then hosting a debate on the points raised by their work. I enjoyed these events immensely, not only for the opportunity to learn from and to teach students from varied backgrounds with differing approaches towards the study of history, but also for the support and the opportunity for development that they offer to students. I also helped edit ISHA's journal 'Carnival'. As well as giving me valuable skills in teaching, discussion and presentation of ideas, ISHA also gave me valuable experience of academic interaction with people for whom English is not their first language, teaching me to to alter my vocabulary and forms of expression to better convey ideas.

My approach to tutoring is based on my own experiences of studying and helping other students at school and university. I aim to teach exam technique and preparation advice, alongside essay-writing skills and time management. I have broad knowledge of English and History and can supplement other teaching to create a strong base of understanding to help tutees achieve desired grades. I studied composition with Emily Howard at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music for 3 years, and I am currently studying for a BA in Music at The Queen's College, Oxford. While at school I was a composer for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, having my works performed in various cathedrals and concert halls around the UK and Europe. As a singer and performer, I have performed with choirs such as the Choir of the Queen's College, Oxford, Mary Magdalen Oxford, Newman Consort, Ensemble 45, Schola Cantorum of Oxford, as well as a variety of chamber ensembles. I am a hard-working and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about teaching and modern foreign languages. Teaching Experience:

I am a friendly, calm and patient teacher with a variety of experience that I am able to bring into my classroom by day, and in tutoring outside of school hours. I have worked with students from primary to university level, as well as tutored adult ESL students during my time living abroad.

As a secondary school teacher, I have high expectations of my students and like to push them to their full potential and keen to inspire confidence and faith in their ability. I thoroughly enjoy working with students one to one when I am able to personally tailor teaching to the learner's level at a pace that suits them. After graduating from Roehampton University with a 2:1 in English Literature and Theatre Studies, I went on to work as a Teaching Assistant in SEN working with students with a range of needs, but focused on teaching students with Dyslexia/Dyspraxia, which then became my research focus for one of my assignments during my PGCE teacher training.

I have since taught in a wide range of schools; I left Britain to work abroad in an IB international boarding school, PTIS Chiang Mai, as a Boarding Houseparent and ESL/SEN teacher, as well as tutoring seniors completing their final IB projects. In the evenings, my responsibilities included tutoring boarders aged 9 - 19 for all subjects. After my one year internship, I taught in a British international school for two years, Varee International Chiang Mai, where I taught KS3/4 IGCSE English and SEN and was lead assessor for entrance tests for ESLstudents. I also tutored adult Thai learners English outside of my school hours as part of a language exchange to help me to develop my Thai.

Since returning to the UK, I have taught KS3/4 History and Geography, and now KS3 - KS4 English in an outstanding secondary academy in West London.
I am a flexible teacher in terms of subjects covered, but English/literature, grammar, ESL and study skills are my core areas.

Tutoring Approach:

When I first meet a new student, I conduct an initial assessment to be able to adapt my lessons to the individual needs of the student.
I have very high expectations of my students, so push when they feel like 'giving up', but practise compassion when they need support and encouragement. With confidence and patience, they can find a way.
I may on occasion set small homework tasks (if the student does not have too much with their school already) to continue learning between sessions. I will often ask a student to e-mail this to me before our next session so I can give feedback and work on mistakes for our next session, thus maximising learning in our short sessions.
I have a fun approach to my teaching as this is vital to engage young learners, as well as for my own enjoyment of sharing my passion for my subject.
