Personal Description:
I live in York and teach French to A-level and beyond, German to GCSE, and Spanish at primary level. A former languages teacher, I have experience of teaching languages (including English as a Foreign Language) to adults and children of all ages. I also have good experience of working with children and adults with additional needs. I still work in training, but now run a national training programme for local authority and care provider staff. I enjoy languages and like to share my passion for them with others!

Teaching Experience:

I have 3 years of teaching experience in the UK and one year teaching English at university level in France. I have also privately tutored both in the UK and France. I have a current CRB check. Before I qualified as a teacher, I worked as a Learning Support Assistant helping children with Special Educational Needs.
Following secondary teaching I trained adults returning to employment. I now train local authorities and care providers.

Tutoring Approach:

I am able to differentiate my lessons to students of all ages, levels and abilities. I have particular experience in working with children with Special Educational Needs. Personal Description:
I love teaching !
People describe me as enthusiastic, skilled, engaging and reliable.

I have been a full-time tutor since 2004 and I cater for all levels, working with both young people and adults to improve their French. I also tutor Maths and Computing.

Teaching Experience:

Many of my students are adults learning French for pleasure or business. I help students preparing for their GCSE and A Level. I also run classes for home-educated children, including children with dyslexia or on the autistic spectrum.

Tutoring Approach:

I tailor lessons to meet the individual needs of my students with a gentle and creative approach. I use a variety of "active-learning" approaches.

I love instilling my love of learning into my pupils and I always get results in a relaxed, enjoyable and rewarding way. Students progress rapidly as most of the sessions are spent talking in French, even with beginners. The objective is to make you feel confident in French. If you really want to learn, one-to-one tuitions are an effective solution.

Personal Description:
My name is Chris and I specialise in preparing students for both the 11+ entrance exams and A-level chemistry exams. Until January 2011, I was a Science Teacher at Plymstock School in Plymouth where I had been the Head of Chemistry for 10 years. Previously I had worked at Kelly College Independent School as a Chemistry Teacher and the Head of Lower School Science. Since January 2011, I have been self employed as both a Professional Tutor and also a Professional Drummer! I love both aspects of my self-employment and look forward to helping many more students achieve exam success.

Teaching Experience:

Chris has been teaching and tutoring A-level chemistry since 1994 and as an ex-Head of Chemistry who has worked in both state schools and private schools, he has helped countless students achieve the high grades they often need for university entrance. Many of my ex-students have gone on to vet school, medical school and Ox-bridge.

Chris has also been teaching Key Stage 3 since 1994 and has a good understanding of the level of written work and mathmatical ability expected of the most able Year 7 students when they begin Secondary School. He has helped countless students to achieve their potential throughout Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 and earlier in his career he was employed as Head of Lower School Science at Kelly College Independent School in Tavistock, Devon.

Chris has a boy and a girl who have both been through the 11+ process and so is well aware of the stresses and benefits that all families are likely to experience, if they are to apply to a selective school.

Chris has an up to date fully enhanced CRB check and also public liability insurance.
You can also find him on the internet listed with various other agencies.

Grammar school education is really rewarding for able students and I hope to get the
chance to show you what the schools are looking for.

Tutoring Approach:

CHEMISTRY
I use boardworks PowerPoints to aid understanding but try to focus the learning around past paper questions and answers as much as possible.
I have handwritten answers to AQA, OCR-A and OCR-Salters past papers which are scanned in to the computer for projection onto a smart board.

For 11+, I teach collaboratively with my neighbour Becky, also listed on UK Tutors. We jointly teach small groups with class sizes limited to a maximum of ten students. Students in a small group support each other and work together with a shared purpose and confidence.

Becky is a knowledgeable Primary School teacher with experience across the primary age range. She has a particular interest in enabling children to reach their full potential, using interesting teaching strategies and by recognising various learning styles. She obtained her BEd Honours degree in Primary Teaching as a mature student and not only achieved a first class degree, but completed each of her placements as an 'Outstanding' teacher. Becky has a fully enhanced CRB and is trained in the Safeguarding of Children. She has also ensured that she has kept up to date through continued professional development.

Personal Description:
I am passionate about teaching languages, mostly orientals, and also coaching martial arts and self defence. I coach the IWTA-EWTO-WingTsun 梁挺詠春拳.

In the first 12 weeks of the beginners program you'll learn the basics for a proactive and "pre-emptive" self defence and to deal with the most "common" types of attacks. This is the Blitz-Defence program.

Afterward you start a more sophisticated training program where you learn to deal with an aggressor in a less violent way by using our unique tactile skills training method.

I can assure you, you will terminate every lesson by learning something new and useful! All I need is your concentration.

Teaching Experience:

Currently tutoring Italian (advanced level) and Japanese (basic level) in all the 4 skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking).

January 2012 - PRESENT: I have been teaching Italian language since January 2012 on 1-2-1 base and via skype when I am abroad.

February 2012 - April 2012: I taught Japanese language for absolute beginners via skype.

April 2010 - February 2012: I taught at The Mill Languages School, in Macclesfield town centre: Mandarin, Japanese, German. In particular I have taught German language to a tailored group to refresh their skills.

August 2015 - 2016. Tutoring Japanese language to beginner level via skype. I taught to school teachers who are planning to travel to Japan and teach English, they need a minimum fluency to go by.

....however; nothingcan beat the experience I have matured over these past 2 years. I need your full committment over a term period (3 months). I need a quite learning environment where I can focus on your progress; either a public library or my house; coffee shop may work depending on the time we agree.

Tutoring Approach:

I am based in Macclesfield and I teach in an informal and yet methodical way; I can teach colloquial and formal languages.

As for WingTsun 梁挺詠春拳 and Escrima (weaponry) I teach privately and/or classes or different venues.
Each 1-2-1 class has to be booked.

Personal Description:
I enjoy all aspects of English Literature, the research process and critical analysis. My most recent teaching has concentrated on sixteenth century texts, including Shakespeare's 'King Lear', 'Hamlet', 'Romeo and Juliet' and Webster's 'The White Devil.' I have also recently taught Oscar Wilde's novel 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' and Scott Fitzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby.'

Currently, I work as a note-taker for university undergraduates who have sight or hearing impairment or a specific learning disability. I enjoy this work immensely as I go along to support students in lectures and seminars in a diverse range of subjects including Philosophy, Psychology, Law and Sports Development which I find very interesting and rewarding.

Teaching Experience:

At a Sixth Form College, I have taught GCSE English (AQA Board); English Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2 (OCR Board); a Government unit on Public Services Level 3 (Edexcel) and Public Service Skills Level 2 (Edexcel).
I have also been a Personal Tutor for 16-19 age group at a Sixth Form College.

Tutoring Approach:

I set objectives, plan targets and evaluate progress and achievement. Reflection plays a key part in the teaching and learning experience. I am flexible and can adapt the learning programme to suit the learners' needs. I will also bring a great deal of enthusiasm to make the learning experience interesting and enjoyable.

Last year, tutees achieved excellent results; this was a result of the high standards adopted and expected of the student matched with lots of hard work.

Personal Description:
I first started tutoring some of my fellow students in Elementary Logic during my second year at University and greatly enjoyed helping people improve their understanding of the subject and gain higher marks. Once my degree was completed I began tutoring A-Level students in Religious Studies and Philosophy in the Leeds area before moving to East Sussex.

The potential of tutoring can only be maximised if each student feels comfortable in lessons, so I actively try to cultivate a good working relationship with each student. After all, if I were not enthusiastic and passionate about the subject it would be impossible to motivate any students to be enthusiastic about it! So far all my students have improved their performance by at least by two grade boundaries following tuition with me.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked with students with a broad range of abilities, from those that need some extra help to reach their full potential, to those that aren't in mainstream schooling and as such don't have any previous knowledge of the subject. Some students are very visual in their learning, others are very shy and need a lot of encouragement to speak, and there are others who are extremely capable if you ask them the right questions. Using a range of resources I can tailor a programme of study to suit each student.

During my time tutoring I have noticed how easily students can lose confidence in their abilities, which at times can be a barrier in their learning. By encouraging students to ask questions, looking at what they are doing right and breaking down topics into their simplest formulation, I help the individual gain confidence in the subject and the skills to answer questions fully.3

Tutoring Approach:

My role as tutor is not only to help the student understand the concepts involved but also to gain the confidence to discuss those concepts in an analytical manner. Religious Studies and Philosophy are disciplines that greatly benefit from one-on-one tuition due to the complexity of the issues. In large lesson groups individuals can easily become confused and aren't always able to receive the instant feedback needed to further explore the subject matter.

As a tutor not only do I expand students' knowledge base but also engage students in a positive way with the subject. If students have been finding a subject difficult their enjoyment of learning can become affected and they can lose the motivation needed to gain a broader understanding. By showing enthusiasm for my subject and using relevant examples and discussion points I reintegrate fun back into learning about the subject.

Personal Description:
In 2013, graduated from King's College London and Humboldt University in Berlin, where I studied English law and German law, LLB an LLM, in English and German. After working for a year in admin-related jobs, I did another masters, in EU International Relations, at College of Europe in Bruges, studying in English and French. I spent the last half a year in Brussels, doing a traineeship in the European Commission and now I am back in London, looking for a job and would love to do some tutoring as well, as I have some experience as a teacher and really enjoy doing it!

As far as my knowledge of German is concerned, I spent a year in Berlin (Humboldt University in Berlin) doing my masters in German and European Law and Legal practice. It included writing and defending a masters thesis in German as well as passing exams in German. I learnt German at school (passed it with the best grade at my IB final exams - A-levels equivalent, I also passed the test DaF, proving the knowledge of this language at the C1 level) and at university, where I had legal German courses. I have experience teaching German as I was tutoring German during my last year at KCL to fellow stundents within the framework of the KCL Language Society. I was also teaching German through this website a couple of years ago and very recently, during the traineeship in Brussels I was teaching intermediate German to a group of fellow trainees on a weekly basis.

As for Polish - I come from Poland originally, so Polish is my mother tongue. I went to school in Poland and only left the country at the age of 19. During my last year at KCL, I was also giving individual Polish lessons part time to English people.

Teaching Experience:

I was teaching English to children in kindergarten in my home country when I was at secondary school. The children were aged 4-6 and I was teaching basic vocabulary and expressions to them. I was preparing various games and songs in order to make the teaching experience easier for them.
While at university, I was an active member of the language society and so I taught German to fellow students, at the beginners and intermediate levels. I taught them grammar rules but also made them practice speaking and listening. I was giving individual Polish lessons during my last year at university as well. Recently, I was a German tutor teaching intermediate level German to the trainees in Brussels.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe tutors must be very patient and answer every question as carefully and as exactly as they can. They should know what their tutees' motivation for learning new languages is and try and set goals that would be suitable to the tutees' needs. This means, tutors should approach each tutee individually and find out what is most important for them in the learning process.
I also believe that learning a new language requires a lot of work to be done by the tutees at home. This is why I give homework as I believe students need to have motivation to study also outside the classes. I set a specific number of vocabulary they need to learn for the next class and check if they have done that. Moreover, I believe learning a language is not just about the grammar rules and for this reason I not only give my students grammar exercises but also encourage them to listen to the radio/news/tv etc. in the language they learn and try to speak as much as possible.

Personal Description:
Hi,
My name is Andrew, I am in my early 50's and taught in private schools for 15 years. I then left education for change of lifestyle and other personal reasons. I have been married for over 25 years and have 2 daughters 24 and 22. I am a committed christian and as such the integrity of the teacher student relationship is very important to me; I would always go the extra mile to see that the student achieves their aims.

I have a current DBS. Loads of references available from Senior teachers and Deputy Headmasters past and present. (Present Headmasters are not the Heads for which I worked).

Teaching Experience:

Repton Prep School 1992 - 2006, Maths, ICT to year 8. Head of ICT.

Manor House School 2006-2007, Maths and ICT to GCSE. Head of ICT.

Private tutor, 3 years, A level (not statistics - sorry), GCSE and Y6 SAT's, Entrance Exams.

I have also coached football, hockey and cricket so I have a solid foundation in motivating students.

Tutoring Approach:

Motivational, inspirational, encouraging. All things are possible with a good attitude. A can do approach. I do NOT subscribe to the "we don't do it like that mentality" , if there is a better way of doing something then I'm positive about new methods.
For example, when my daughters were learning their tables I wrote my own simple spreadsheet to enable tables practice on a table by table random basis. This is a completely unashamedly a drill system that produces results. Easily possible to learn all tables to 12 within a month if sufficient time is invested, it is also an enjoyable process that 99% of the children that I taught enjoyed, I used the spreadsheet extensively in the schools at which I taught. Infinitely extendable for the brightest to 13, 14, 15 20x tables; likewise can be simplified to 2x and 3x for those that need more time. Also programmable to practise number bonds with any number of digits.

I have also developed the spreadsheet to enable learning of vocabulaire francais.

Personal Description:
I am a young, female primary school teacher in the Doncaster/Wakefield area. Aside from my enthusiasm for teaching and helping children to achieve, I am interested in academic areas including sociology and languages. I enjoy travel and reading. I have worked voluntarily as a teaching assistant and completed a degree in Sociology before training to be a teacher. I now work as a supply teacher at primary level and as a personal tutor to primary and secondary level children. I hold an enhanced DBS check dated September 2015.

Teaching Experience:

I am a qualified primary school teacher who has taught classes of all ages at primary level. As a supply teacher, I have worked in many different schools and, as such, I develop positive relationships very quickly with both children and adults. I enjoy working with individuals and small groups in academic tasks and find that children are very responsive to this lower teacher-pupil ratio. I have found that working in these situations really helps to boost children's concentration and confidence in their work. They also feel more comfortable to ask questions in areas they find difficult. When tutoring, I am to create a positive, friendly and professional relationship where children feel comfortable with what they are learning, but also feel they can ask for help when required.

Tutoring Approach:

I recognise that children learn in many different ways - some by seeing and visualising, some by talking and discussing, and some by doing a physical or mental activity. I aim to tutor children using the learning style that best suits them. In a classroom, it is often difficult to meet the needs of every child. Personal tuition provides children with valuable one-to-one time, where the focus is on them and them alone. I believe that personal tuition does much to increase achievement in those weaker areas, but also serves to challenge and develop knowledge in stronger areas. Following a free initial consultation, I provide personalised programmes of study tailored exactly to meet the needs of the child involved. I am passionate about helping children to reach their full potential and will do all I can to make this happen. Sessions take place in the child's own home and are arranged on a flexible basis with parent or guardian. I can provide tuition from 30 minutes per week to more intensive programmes consisting of several hours per week in the school holidays.

I currently have slots available on weekday evenings and am available most Saturday mornings and early afternoon. I am not available on Sundays.

Personal Description:
I'm a graduate of the University of Edinburgh's MA (Hons) Latin degree. I've got a working background in arts management and administration, but I'm hoping to utilise my degree to encourage prospective Latinists to give the subject a go!

Teaching Experience:

I began tutoring in Latin and English Literature five years ago, both for beginners and up to GCSE. I currently have a tutee learning beginner's Latin. While at university I tutored other students in beginner's Latin and Classical Civilisation. I've also spent the past few years providing training for adults in the workplace, so I'm happy to tutor adult learners (both beginners and experienced) as well.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer tutoring using practical methods - such as discussions and games - rather than just learning by rote. However, I adapt my tutor style based on what the tutee requires. I've been trained in a variety of methods to engage young and adult learners, and will try out several to see what suits the tutee best. For more experienced learners, such as A-Level / Advanced Higher candidates, I will identify which areas of the subject (vocabulary, grammar, literature) need most tuition, and decide with the tutee which to focus upon. I am happy to tutor individuals or in small groups (in which case a discounted rate can be agreed upon.)

Personal Description:
I am a qualified and experienced TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teacher and I also offer English, French and German for primary, secondary and adult learners. I teach English to young overseas students who are living and studying in the UK.

I am a BA Honours graduate in Modern Languages (French and German) and I speak both languages fluently, having lived and worked for several years in both countries. I also have a professional language qualification (Institute of Linguists Final Diploma) and speak some Italian.

Personal Description:
With 7 years teaching and tutoring experience at A-Level, GCSE, iGCSE, undergraduate university level and IB, I have helped tutor over 50 private students alongside my job as a full-time classroom teacher.

I am patient and build confidence in my students, highlighting areas for improvement and encouraging progression. I tailor my teaching to suit the need of my students, considering prior knowledge, confidence, English ability and style of learning in my approach.

With a masters in Mathematics Education, and as someone who now trains teachers, I have an up-to-date understanding on teaching and changes in the National Curriculum (particularly with the new GCSEs and A-level). This enables me to be ahead of the game with knowing about teaching and learning developments, government policy in education, and other issues that affect students' experiences of mathematics.

Teaching Experience:

I have specialist teaching experience with girls aged 11 to 18, as well as with students who have English as an additional language (although have tutored a wide range of students, from primary boys aged 9, up to undergraduate students aged 19). I have been head of department in my previous place of work, as well as head of year, so understand the needs of students in maths, as well as holistically.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is informed by my teaching strategies in the classroom. I try to pre-assess students in order to understand where their current knowledge of mathematics is, work with the student to build a plan in order to fill in any gaps in their knowledge, and help them achieve their goals in a time frame agreed upon with the student and parents. I then evaluate the student's learning informally each session, through verbal feedback and worked problems. I generally model technique through worked examples, as well as creating my own problems based on past papers in order to prepare students for the demands of examination. Throughout the process I ensure that students are encouraged and enjoy learning mathematics, and build confidence in their ability so they feel they can (and want to) achieve.

Personal Description:
I am 23 years old and have recently moved to the west Yorkshire area from Newcastle Upon Tyne. I have loved to Perform ever since being a small child where my hobbies were dancing and drama. Through this I have performed in many different places including Her Majesty's theatre in the West End. I have also been very interested in community arts and theatre. It was during my GCSE years when I decided I wanted to turn my hobby into my career. After passing my GCSE in Drama and Alevel in Performing Arts, I graduated from Newcastle College (affiliated by Teeside University) in 2014 with a BA (hons) in Acting where I received a First Class Degree and the year after I graduated again with my PGCE which I specialised in Drama. After a year trying to make a life for myself in Newcastle I moved to West Yorkshire where my Parents are currently living.

As well as teaching and working a bar job to enable to fund myself I am also in the process of applying for masters degree, hoping to start in September.

Teaching Experience:

During my PGCE year I completed my teaching placement at Newcastle college where I taught and lead modules in the BTEC Performing Arts course for both level 1 and level 2, teaching both writing and practical assignments. During my PGCE year I also taught lessons with second year degree students in their alternative technique module, looking at different ideas that can added in to devised theatre.

Even though I have not taught one-to-one private tuition, for the past year I have been teaching Comedy and Drama at a Saturday Performing Arts Academy in the North East, I still travel every Saturday to teach at the drama Academy. I am currently involved in helping to direct my third show with the academy, one of which we performed in London.

As a private tutor I can help with a variety of needs for the student, from extra help with drama GCSEs, Alevels and Degree courses both with written work and Practical work. I Can help with Auditions for Drama school or private lessons to help with extra curricular drama exams such as Trinity College London - where I am some experience.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe it is important to create a rapport with students, as from experience they become comfortable with me as a teacher and create mutual respect which I believe helps with the learning journey. I care about my students success.

I can tutor face to face (essential for practical work) or tutor online via emails and Skype, where I can give feedback, help to break down tasks, plan , help with research and set tasks when need be to further on the learning.

I set homework as and when I feel is appropriate.
