I have been a tutor for over 20 years and a personal tutor since moving to Driffield in 2006. I have always been keenly interested in science subjects and gained a BSc (hons) in biology in 1995.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 20 years experience as a tutor, beginning in adult education for Leeds University. For the last 8 years I have been a personal tutor for both GCSE and A level students, teaching AQA, Edexcel and Baccalaureate syllabuses. In 2009 I gained the level 3 PTLLS teaching qualification.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very enthusiastic about teaching biology and I believe that science should be interesting (and definitely not scary) and that understanding key principles makes the detailed stuff so much easier. I tailor each session to the individual student's needs, spending any necessary time on topics that may be causing difficulties, and use a very patient approach to improve subject knowledge, exam technique as well as improving the student's confidence.

Personal Description:
I have a degree in Pharmacology and a qualified teacher of Science from KS1 to KS5. I am also an examiner; I mark GCSE papers. I am a very hard working individual who is easily motivated and always ready to adapt and learn new skills. Having had various opportunities to carry out a variety of laboratory assessments as key components of my course, I am able to work as an individual or as part of a team. As a part of my degree I developed essential and transferable scientific skills. My project title was 'Synthesis and Biochemical Evaluation of Heat Shock Protein Hsp90 inhibitors on MCF-7 breast cancer cells'. Studies on how drugs are discovered, developed and used to treat disease gave me an understanding of how the human body functions and how drugs can be used to affect these functions. I have experience teaching from KS1 to KS5 and open university students. I enjoy travelling; visited New York, New Jersey, Netherlands, Scotland, Switzerland, Austria, Spain and Nigeria. I get pleasure from working out at the gym regularly and I love swimming. I also enjoy studying christian books and other inspirational books.

Teaching Experience:

Currently at SEN school in Hampshire; previous experience at an inner city school in Portsmouth. It has 900 students on roll. I have over 6 years of experience working with people with challenging behaviour, dyslexia and autism. Currently I am teaching Key stage 3 and 4. Teaching pure Biology lessons to separate Science; Physics, Chemistry and Biology to core and Additional Science students. For key stage 3 I have followed the QCA guidelines and for key stage 4 the WJEC examination board. I have written schemes of work for year 11 students to cover additional Sciences and rewrote schemes of work to meet the recent curriculum changes key stage 3 and 4. I was also involved in producing resources to be shared in the department about hydrocarbons, polymers, smart materials, ammonia fertilizers and many other kS3 topics.

Prior to this experience my first teaching placement during my PGCE year was at a mixed comprehensive with approximately 900 students on role. I taught Biology, Chemistry and Physics at key stage 3 and team taught for key stage 4. This prepared me well for my second placement where I taught all three Sciences across both key stages. My second placement was also at a mixed comprehensive school with approximately 600 students on roll. I also was involved in Individual Student Assessments (ISA). Additionally as a trainee teacher I regularly was involved in school base activities to encourage students. I was a Student Ambassador for Portsmouth University. It gave me a lot of personal satisfaction and developed my communication skills. I also attended the University of East London gifted and talented day in 2008; which was attended by a number of schools from the borough of Redbridge. It was an inspiring day of learning and fun and I have taken elements from that day into my classroom practice today.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching is to first of all find out my students weaknesses and turn it into their strengths; I feel that the study of Neuropharmacology as part of my undergraduate degree in Pharmacology was very relevant to teaching. I have a secured subject knowledge with all three Sciences. I also like to bring the best of people, by being patient and understanding. I have the ability to cope and work under pressure, understanding of the challenges that need overcoming to learn, ability to take ownership of material and adapt it to suit the learning styles and approach of individual.

I am a professional actor and graduate from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and have been working in the private tuition industry for over seven years for various agencies, most prominently The Tutors Group. Before drama school I worked as a Primary School teaching assistant and drama teacher for two years, after graduating from King's College London with a 2:1 in my BA (Hons) English Literature & Language degree. I went straight to university from Norwich High School for Girls in Norfolk. So I have travelled all the way across England in my pursuit of study! I always wanted to tutor because I knew how I worked for all my GCSEs, A-Levels and my BA, and I was fed up with the media claiming exams were getting easier for kids: teenagers today work super hard, as I did! During the morning session, I am currently working in a Year One class in this south London school and thriving on aiding the children specifically with their literacy, reading and speaking skills as well as exploring numeracy work.
I lead certain lessons including story time and circle time.
I support key groups of children within the class and am able to use my initiative to plan, deliver and assess their learning in order to encourage progression.
I have vast experience in creating my own resources using ICT, and creating artistic displays to proudly exhibit the children's work.
I have taken courses in Early Literacy Support, encouraging creative and inclusive teaching especially for children with English as an additional language and complex special needs children. I also have training in "Letters and Sounds" Phonics, and "A First Workshop on Autism".
During the afternoon session, I support a child in Year Two with Autism. I plan and prepare all his lessons, working towards targets which I and the class teacher have set for him; these include phonics, counting and social skills. I use music as a reward system for the boy, and his singing has greatly improved his speech quality and communication skills.
I have extensive training in Autistic Spectrum Conditions, undertaken with Southwark, covering various aspects including history, sensory integration and behavioural management.
I work with various children with complex special needs within school, including children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Galactosemia, and have worked closely with speech and language therapists and learning mentors.
I offer one to one support outside of lesson time in the form of music lessons for special needs children; I prepare and provide my own resources and find singing with my students extremely rewarding.
I am in the process of setting up an after-school drama club for Key Stage One students at the school, having directed the infant school Christmas play this and last year.
I have also spent time in Key Stage Two classrooms, focussing on aiding older children with their literacy skills: I particularly enjoyed aiding Year Six students in exploring literary themes and using appropriate critical vocabulary when studying children's literature.

I am a friendly and approachable tutor with a huge amount of enthusiasm in the subjects I teach. I was awarded a Scholarship to a competitive independent before working towards a Masters in Biochemistry at Oxford University.

I have since worked as a Pharmaceuticals Business Analyst, as a High Yield Chemicals Industry Analyst in Investment Banking and as an Air Traffic Controller. In each case the knowledge and skills from my education have been critical. I would now like to gain the satisfaction of helping others do well in these subjects and attain their potential.

Teaching Experience:

In my industries it is critical to continue learning and passing exams, and in every role, I have always had to pass on my knowledge and understanding to others, which has been incredibly gratifying. More recently, I have enjoyed tutoring maths and other subjects to pupils locally, often to help them gain entrance to competitive schools. I also enjoy spending time teaching my son and my nieces.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning should always be interesting to the pupil - inspirational even - and that the onus is on the teacher to make this the case. Learning is about being curious and asking questions; in fact I believe pupils should not be scared to ask any question, which means that learning should feel relaxed rather than formal.

Subjects should not be seen as complex but rather layers of straight forward principals that build on what the pupil already knows in an intuitive fashion. In this way, a good teacher allows understanding to grow naturally and not feel like a challenge.

The basis of my lessons consists of the notions which everyone needs in order to know a foreign language, aspects related to the cultural and the real life and the attention on the typical rules of the foreign language.

With delight and interest I concentrate on the efficient use of a variety of media (songs, short films, films, books, newspaper articles, literature) which could animate the lessons.

My eagerness and determination to learn and teach foreign languages (French, English and Italian) developed my interest in analyzing, comparing and synthesizing information as well as enabling me to discover various methods of teaching a considerable amount of knowledge. Through assiduity and responsibility I managed to find the path towards mastering these foreign languages and teaching them with enthusiasm.

Foreign languages are a source of mystery, a mix of rules and originality, a mine of meanings and linguistic surprises, a challenge. I've always found them a very absorbing and fulfilling but sometimes frustratingly vast field which attracts and challenges to a thorough study and wider analysis.

I learned that paying close attention to quality of all my work and grasping opportunities to learn new skills must be prioritized by professional workers.

Hello! My name is Eva, and I would describe myself as a very warm, friendly, straight forward and patient person, with excellent communication skills. I have an incredibly strong academic record (A-Levels: English Literature-A*, Drama-A*and French-A) and a genuine love for reading, theatre, and music. Teaching Experience:

I have regularly helped younger siblings with English homework, and given them the confidence to become braver and more vocal in the classroom. I am able to clearly explain exam and revision technique - which is often the key to improving grades.
I have previously set up a school drama club, and have led games and prepared lessons for groups of children. I enjoyed the challenge and process of this hugely, and know from verbal feedback that they did too! I hugely value the time I spent with these students and their inquisitive minds. I have successfully tutored many children from Year One to Year Six and can plan an effective, individualised program of support to significantly boost your child's progress.

I am an experienced primary school teacher. I have worked with children from Foundation to Year 6 and have supported children with a range of SEN. I also have significant experience working with children with English as an additional language. I have an excellent understanding of the demands of the new curriculum and have undertaken a range of training and CPD including specialist phonics training.

I now tutor full time but ensure I keep up to date with changes in schools by undertaking a small amount of intervention and cover work.

I am a second year university Student in Southampton, I study Journalism and achieved a first in the first year of university. Teaching Experience:

Have taught for a brief time in Primary Schools, however the main part of my teaching is now peer to peer making it less intimidating for a student to ask questions they may have on a topic.

In my secondary school I was a mentor for 11-17 year olds providing help and support for any school related needs they may have had.

I find nothing more fulfilling that helping a fellow student and watching them learn and understand the problem they once had trouble with.

Students will be able to voice questions they may have, and not feel embarrassed as I am a student myself. There will be homework involved, and I will target the area of the subject that the student is struggling with.

The fact I am still a student is important as I can bridge the gap between teacher and student. The most common problem students come to me with is that they feel embarrassed to ask questions to their school teacher.

I do not try and recite words from a textbook, but ask the students to learn from my experiences and ultimately do the best they can do.
