Personal Description:
Hello! I am 39 years old, originally from Denmark and moved to the UK 13 years ago for my degree. Before teaching, I worked as a monkey veterinary technician in the US, conducted my Masters research on crop-raiding macaques in Indonesia, and helped to run a volunteer expedition in the Amazon. After a couple of years of teaching in secondary school as a Science and Spanish teacher, I heard the call of the wild again and travelled for a year through Mexico and Central America. I have worked for an independent school in the Rochdale area for over 5 years and have gained experience tutoring a wide range of subjects and a wide range of ages.

I have an up to date enhanced CRB.

Teaching Experience:

I completed my teaching degree in 2007 at Canterbury Christ Church University. I trained in two very different types of schools, private Catholic school and selective high school, which gave me the experience to engage students of different abilities and backgrounds. I also received training to teach EAL and SEN students. My teaching qualification is in Science, but as a fluent Spanish linguist I have also taught Spanish to both adults and children in schools and private tuition. I teach Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics up to GCSE level. I can also teach English Key Stage 3.

Tutoring Approach:

Students, young and old, don't like subjects they don't think they can succeed in. My approach is to break down material, relate it to everyday life and interests, and positively reinforce all the way to build up confidence. I am stubborn (!) and I don't give up until it's mastered.

I am a multilingual, legal executive and researcher with a long-standing passion in teaching, lecturing and management. I have taught at all levels from primary to the university level.

My teaching experience extends over 20 years and is backed by professional qualifications in each field that I teach. I.e. Law, Martial Arts (fitness/self defence) English and Arabic.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught both Arabic and English (native speaker) at various levels - up to university undergraduate level, at several London and UK-based schools as well as managing and directing an international language school in the Middle East.

I also tutor law, up to and including undergraduate level, this includes the foundation subjects: Equity and Trusts, Tort, European, Criminal, Public, Land and Contract as well as self defence/fitness.

Tutoring Approach:

I use a relaxed interactive, seminarial approach whenever practical. I am not, however, averse to IT based or traditional methods and welcome a diverse and results-oriented approach. My aim is to help you achieve your goals.

I recommend that you book for a ONE hour meeting / tutorial initially as further tuition can then be discussed - rather than book 15 hours or 100 etc - just see how things go and take it from there - this approach will save registration fees for both of us :-)

I have been tutoring privately for over five years and currently have fifty seven students.
I have worked in a high school as a English Graduate Assistant and have had exposure to lesson and administration relating to the curriculum.
I have completed a Literacy Leadership Award and I was assessed on my ability to plan and prepare a literacy activity. I had to show communication and motivational skills through delivering literacy across the curriculum. Having observed teachers, I was able to learn interesting techniques that are used to teach Key stage 3 and 4 students. From this experience, I was taught how to plan and structure a lesson i.e. the starter, an introduction, an interactive main activity and the plenary; how to use verbal and non-verbal communication successfully .These rewarding experiences encouraged me to become an English teacher in the future. My approach to tuition includes a variety of techniques and strategies in order to guide and motivate the learner. She uses a variety of techniques such as group brain storming in order to get the class involved which is very effective. During our group revision sessions she used this technique which worked well as it got everybody thinking, talking and interacting which was useful when remembering theorists and certain dates. She also categorised the theorists into groups based on their research which was also helpful for revision as it broke down the amount of theorists into smaller groups which were easier to remember. I am a regular contributor on 11+ website forums giving parents the benefit of my experience/knowledge.

In 2003 I produced a guide to 11+ success and have sold over 1500 copies to date.

I have been an adviser to publisher Nelson Thornes on the contents of their VR books which include the Bond range.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 21 years experience as a private tutor preparing children for the grammar school entrance exams (11+) and 11 years as a year 5 class teacher.

Tutoring Approach:

I carry out an initial assessment test which provides me with an accurate guide as to whether the child is a suitable candidate.

My aim is to familiarise my pupils with the different types of verbal reasoning questions they will encounter in the exam and teach them methods to tackle them most effectively.

As we approach the exam we concentrate on 'fine-tuning' i.e. concentrating specifically on any areas that need further attention and ensuring that the child is used to working at the required speed. Appropriate practice tests are done on a regular basis.

I have a passion for the written word and its performance in poetry and drama.

I am a mother with three grown-up children and a grandmother, and very interested in how young people view and contribute to the world in which they live.

I have an MA (with Merit) in Postcolonial Studies from SOAS, University of London (2015) and a First Class Honours BA degree in English and Classics from the University of Reading (1996).

I can offer lessons in my home in Bampton or online via email and Skype. Skype has proved to be a highly successful way of teaching and I now teach across the globe using this medium,

Teaching Experience:

In addition to working in a school in Exeter (outlined above), I have been a highly successful English tutor for many years, originally based in the South-East. Most of my client base is private but I also work for two top London tuition agencies. I am a highly experienced tutor and currently have students in English Language & Literature from KS1 to 'A' level/IB. I also work with undergraduates & postgraduates in various disciplines, providing guidance in the structure of their essays, particularly dissertations, and academic writing. Additionally, in 2014/15 I tutored the complete AQA GCSE Classical Civilisation syllabus to a Year 9 student via Skype, who obtained an A as her final grade.

Tutoring Approach:

When I tutor a student, I search for a 'tailor-made' way to help increase their self-esteem and confidence. This enhances the learning they already receive in the classroom. The study of texts offers student and tutor alike not only an opportunity to develop communication one with another but also insight into the life experiences of others, both in past generations and the wider world today.

I have previously had experience being a teaching assistant in English, Maths, History and Biology at a Primary School to Year 1 and 2 students. I held this position for 2 years.

If students in a class of 30 did not understand what a teacher had taught them, I would sit down individually with these students and ensure that they understood what was being taught before giving them a set of tasks to test their knowledge.

I am a current Psychology MSc student. I love learning, but I haven't always felt that way. I currently read one book a week, while not so long ago as a student I truly hated reading. I had a tough time with developing relevant skills, procrastination and a very limited mindset while studying for my A Levels. This resulted in many set backs, high stress and low motivation. I have booklets prepared for different ranges of ability and find that verbal repetition with the use of Portuguese songs happen to be most successful. The use of repetition allows for the correction of possible errors with diction or male/ female forms.
