I am currently experienced in Science, English and History predominantly, and am fluent in 3 languages, with a basic knowledge of some European languages.

I have also been involved in setting up a Limited Company which aims to provide academic resources to students in Higher Education (at University level).

My work experience in the healthcare, higher education and training business sectors over the last 13 years has also given me the opportunity to develop a range of teaching / training styles that will suit most learners very well.

Teaching Experience:

Over 8 years experience, delivering 1-2-1 tuition to students aged predominantly 6-18.

Most common subjects taught - English / Maths / Science (up to GCSE). Also worked extensively with adults in the local community, training people in basic computing skills relevant to their specific needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I follow the National Curriculum, with set lesson plans for each tutor session.

We will follow a learning plan that will run alongside school teaching. I do not help with school homework on a regular basis. Instead, I use the time I spend with each student, to improve their areas of weakness, so that they can do their homework and coursework / assignments with confidence themselves.

Lesson 1 is always a discussion of what the student / parents wish to achieve, along with an assessment of the students current capabilities. If you would like the first lesson to be more productive, I can send the assessment to be completed before the first class. The assessment will need to be returned 24hrs before the first planned lesson so I can look it over and plan my teaching approach for the student.

Teaching styles / tools:
- Each lesson will have a starter discussion about any areas of concern in school - I will make notes and plan to work on those areas in the next lesson.

- We will then work on a mini-project together, which will help the student to learn and develop a range of skills that he/she can then use in their own coursework / homework assignments.

- For subjects which involve reading, the student will be given homework to read a chapter / section for discussion at the next class.

- For Maths / Science, there will be worksheets which the student will need to complete on his/her own after lesson.

- If at any time there are any questions / concerns from the students or parents, I am more than happy to spend part of the lesson in discussion about these with you.

- All lessons are taught in an informal and positive / open-discussion style. But in order to make lessons successful and get the most out of your learning plan, please ensure that there is somewhere quiet to work, and that you have all of the required equipment / stationery beforehand (i.e. pens / pencils / eraser / ruler / calculator / notebook or note paper etc).

- It would also be useful to have internet / wifi set up, to use either with your own computer, or with mine to access online resources.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
All student details are kept confidential and you can be assured that no personal information will be shared with anybody else. However, I may ask permission to use student's work as an example of how to achieve highly in assignments / homework, with other student. Again, all personal details would be removed.

The minimum time per lesson is 1 hour per week for regular bookings.

Semi-Intensive courses can be booked at 2+ hours per week with prior agreement.

Intensive 2-4 week courses can be booked with daily lessons close to exam times. These have very limited spaces available and would include longer classes if need be, depending on how the student performs during our initial assessment.

Intensive courses are also very useful for students wanting to pass grammar school entrance examinations or prepare for other specific exams and assessments.

I studied broadcasting while I was in China and I worked as a presenter part-time for a radio station, as such My Chinese pronunciation is very clear and standard. I also studied some Japanese, which gave me a grasp of learning and developing a new language.

I got first class in the National Standard Chinese Level Qualification which shows I have near perfect pronunciation. Pronunciation is very important in Chinese and thus it is vital that the person who is teaching you has good pronunciation or you will pick up their mistakes too.

Teaching Experience:

When I was in China, I tutored some primary school aged students English to earn extra income. This has given me a base in teaching languages and so I have a good understanding of the differences in the languages such as grammar, word composition, and the etiquette.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is very much tailored to the students needs.
For short-time learners, I will focus on basic common expressions, useful tourists sayings and culture differences. For long-time learners I will work on everything from grammar to hand writing to allow the student to communicate naturally in in Chinese.

I am used to a wide variety of challenges and opportunites having worked with special needs for many years.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught through all the age ranges starting off as a Internationally Qualified Montessori Teacher, working right through to University level as an accelerated learning practitioner (I trained with Tony Buzan). My core specialism is Dyslexia and Special Needs. I have worked with home schooled children for many years as well as continuing to do regular home tutoring after school hours and some Saturday mornings. I still run Montessori workshops particularly for those involved in homehomeschooling. I am also a Qualified and Insured Naturopath and teach a wide variety of alternative health and well-being workshops, as in my experience, health and well being are directly related to the students ability to learn effectively; so many students who have experienced challenges in assimilating learning often are found to have some form of health or allergy issues. .

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer a holistic style of teaching, using where possibly a multi - sensorial and multi -discipline approach. I believe that a good relationship with the student, which, while still being professional, engenders a sense of trust, caring and belief in the students ability to rise higher than they thought they could. I feel that one has to enable the student to find out where their true base line is through good assessment, then allow them to work on their challenges through the utilization of their strengths. I believe in supporting the student in developing their own, successful and sophisticated learning strategies which are unique to their learning style.

I am currently a PhD student in History at the University of Leicester, having recently finished an MA in History at the University of Warwick and a BA in History at the University of Leicester. My studies have generally concentrated on British and American history from c.1500 - present. My main strengths are in modern history from 1700 to 1945, however I am versatile and able to teach other topics outside these thematic areas.

APPROACH TO TUITION

Tailoring tuition to suit the student
The advantage of one-to-one tuition is that I can assess what specific needs a student has, and organise my lessons around those needs. Some students need essay technique help some have a specific set of topics they want to go over others might need an entire course taught to them as they have left school or are being home educated.

Knowing the syllabus
All GCSEs and A Levels follow a national syllabus, and I know them all very well. In my first lesson with any student I will make sure they are aware of the overall requirements of the syllabus, on a topic-by-topic basis. I will always stick to what the student needs to know to pass that particular syllabus I do not needlessly make students learn things they do not need to know.

Digital handouts
In my years of tuition, I have built up a cloud-based digital archive of hundreds of handouts. Say a student is learning about arguments for the existence of God for RS A Level - I have handouts very clearly outlining the Ontological, Teleological and Cosmological arguments and all relevant criticisms. These handouts are a great extra help alongside my teaching.

Tailoring tuition to suit the student
The advantage of one-to-one tuition is that I can assess what specific needs a student has, and organise my lessons around those needs. Some students need essay technique help some have a specific set of topics they want to go over others might need an entire course taught to them as they have left school or are being home educated.

Knowing the syllabus
All GCSEs and A Levels follow a national syllabus, and I know them all very well. In my first lesson with any student I will make sure they are aware of the overall requirements of the syllabus, on a topic-by-topic basis. I will always stick to what the student needs to know to pass that particular syllabus I do not needlessly make students learn things they do not need to know.

Digital handouts
In my years of tuition, I have built up a cloud-based digital archive of hundreds of handouts. Say a student is learning about arguments for the existence of God for RS A Level - I have handouts very clearly outlining the Ontological, Teleological and Cosmological arguments and all relevant criticisms. These handouts are a great extra help alongside my teaching.

I am able to guide both GCSE and A Level students through their studies, offering consistent, dedicated 1-2-1 tuition for the full term of the course. I can also provide practical tuition for students who are preparing their art portfolios for University submission, and can offer assistance with UCAS forms and references for students who undertake long-term A Level tuition with me.

Tutoring may take place at the student's home, or at my art studio in central Manchester, where I can provide a range of art materials and resources by prior arrangement, for more intensive practical art sessions. Please note that I can travel within 20 miles of central Manchester based on the fee structure quoted below, travelling further will incur a small additional fuel fee.

I have had recent successes with my private students, one of whom attended one-to-one sessions at my Manchester studio for 8 weeks and improved her predicted GCSE Art result of a B by two grades, achieving an A* in her final art exam. My most recent undergraduate students have also attained First class results in their undergraduate degrees. One student achieved a high score of 78 on her History of Art dissertation project with intensive tutorial support conducted via Skype; and another progressed from a fail during the first year of his Visual Communication degree, to a First class final result in his third year, following 2 years of regular commitment to one-to-one tutoring.

*Please note that due to the time-intensive nature of undergraduate level tutoring, I am only able to take on a maximum of three undergraduate tutees at any given time. Please see below for my current availability for tutoring at this level.*

I am a student currently pursuing my MEng in Civil Engineering at Imperial College London. I finished my A-levels last year at Wellington College, Berkshire, UK, where I achieved 3A*s 1A. I currently live in a student hall in central London (Kensington) and am willing to travel small distances for tutorial classes. I am undoubtedly strongest in teaching science/math-based subjects such as KS3/GCSE/A-levels maths, physics and chemistry as proven from my A-level results.

Having only recently finished my A-Levels, I believe I am very familiar with the current UK education system. Besides, I feel I can relate and communicate with children, teenagers easily due to our narrow age gaps. This definitely helps learning because communication is key in tutorials.

In terms of language, I achieved 8/9 marks in the IELTS exam, which proves my English language proficiency.

Teaching Experience:

I started tutoring back in Hong Kong, where I travelled to kids and teenagers aged from 9-16 for tutorials. When I arrived at England for my sixth-form studies, I volunteered in teaching younger students (GCSE) at my school weekly. I have also been to Eagle House, a prep school which has ties with Wellington College, for tutorials with younger students.

Tutoring Approach:

First things first, tutorials has to be interactive and fruitful at the same time. I have experienced the difference between boring, too-intensive tutorials and interactive, interesting and productive tutorials, so my tutees definitely won't experience boring, harsh and unbearable tutorials.

Every lesson consists of these targets which should be completed:

1) recap of materials learnt in school
2) Q&A session between tutee and myself
3) focus on homework
4) focus on difficult, tricky concepts
5) final recap and a few questions from me for consolidation

Throughout the course of tutorials, I will spot the weakness of particular topics of my tutee, and further focus on it.

During exam periods:

1) exam strategies and techniques
2) past-papers (KEY!!)
3) extra lessons if needed

If my tutees have any questions, I would be able to answer them via Skype, telephone, text or social media.
